Thin crust pizza, a rarity! The owner Jack was there to greet us, friendly bartender, lots of smiling faces & regulars. Pizza was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced compared to others in town. You get to pick your toppings from many selections. We've had their pizza often since we discovered them 5 years ago. 8/10/2025 Tonight we split the fried catfish dinner. Nice thin cornmeal batter, 4 pieces plus tots (substituted for fries), hush puppies and coleslaw. Plenty to split! Very light!!! Ok other than the tots. Love Jacks for their food! ! It's a smoky dive bar but the food is fantastic! We don't go in and hang, both of us being former smokers, but we love their food! I hear their green chicken enchiladas are amazing! Will report back. This is a comedic bar. It's not a place that I would recommend going to unless you're hungry and it's past 10:30 p.m. in Galveston, Texas. Otherwise, I'd stay the hell away from here. If you want to see an empty pool table, maybe play around. That's a reason to go. If you want some decent late-night food, it's not a chain. It's your only option. That's a reason to go. Again, outside of that, I highly recommend finding something better. But it is Texas, and there's jack shit for food. But this place is one of the few places left that still lets you smoke inside. This is definitely local and not a tourist trap. It is so down to earth, bartender was amazing and the FOOD WAS DOWN RIGHT AMAZING! We love a dive and this was it! We were on the island for a little get away the husband and I, I can say from all the places we went this was MY MOST FAVORITE! The drinks were well made, something you should expect at a bar and not all bars can do. No complaints on that at all! What shocked us and made us definitely want to come back for was the food! I was not looking forward to bar food completely bc I have a sensitive stomach but we ordered... STREET TACOS, the nachos, fries and wings. Nothing was greasy or oily which was amazing to me. Then the portions were great, the taste was phenomenal. Bar food can usually be frozen and reheated or oily and this was the exact opposite. It was fresh, tasty and perfect. This is definitely a must if you want low key hang out to watch a game. We were the only not locals and yet everyone was very friendly. Jack's was one of the few places open on Christmas Eve and we were so happy to find it! We come to Galveston fairly regularly and we will definitely be back. The bartender was so nice, can't remember her name but she served delicious cocktails to us all night and was super friendly. We loved the free pool-and the overall relaxed neighborhood bar vibe. Regulars and staff were all super friendly. We ended up bringing home a pizza-which we really enjoyed-nice thin crust and the sauce wasn't too sweet-just how we like it. After seeing the great reviews on Yelp and Facebook, my girlfriend and I decided to stop in Jack's Pub on a Sunday night. First off, the alternative rock music playing on the stereo is excellent and just the right EQ level to hold a conversation. The entire establishment is spotless. The bar, the bathroom, the carpet...great job! Even with smoking allowed in the bar, the place does not stink. Our bartender Yana, greeted us with a smile when we arrived. She was quite attentive to our needs to find the right seat at the bar so we could settle in and the best light so my girlfriend could sketch. I ordered a Blue Moon on tap. The beer is fresh and the lines are clean. My girlfriend ordered a well vodka and Diet Coke which arrived an a nicely weighted tumbler glass. Next, I ordered 1/4 of a 12 inch pizza (thin crust) with pepperoni and black olives. Oh my. Let me tell you about the crust. It was perfectly cooked with just the right tiny bit of crunch and flakiness. The quality of white cheddar cheese and pepperoni. Wow. We also enjoyed an order of jalapeño poppers that were delicious and not oily. Based on the breading, I'm pretty sure these were made from scratch. For entertainment there is a pool table, gaming machines and a couple of real dart boards. If I could score Jack's Pub, it's food, and staff more than 5 stars, I would. Make no mistake about it, this place is a dive! We have been here often and have always had a great time. Hidden gem. Free pool cheap drinks and great bartender. I think the owner was there and he orders a big plate of some seafood fried balls thing. Great local bar! Not a lot of young idiots like you find on the Seawall. Yea, yea, I know I was that age once and I acted a fool too. These days, I like the older, more mature crowds and you find that here. Our bartender both times was awesome and took such great care of us! We had a big group and and even though she had a full bar, she constantly came over to refill our drinks and make sure we were ok. You can smoke inside, so your whole outfit will smell like cig smoke for a couple days. Just know that going into it so you are not surprised. The food was awesome. It's bar food, but it's good! I have tried the pizza, mashed potatoes, and corndogs and all were yummy and came out quickly. Drinks were strong and cheap. Where has this place been all my life? We had such a blast when we went there! There are two different bars inside this one area one is a non-smoking bar and one is an area for smokers. We opted for the smoking area bar. Our bartender Macy was super friendly and had great service! The drinks were Very tasty, just the right combination! The cost was a little higher than what we are used to paying at our normal bar, but our regular bar is not in Galveston. Tracked down this puppy in the dead of winter based on the Schlitz website pointing out where to get their product. I don't know about the west end location, but this one didn't disappoint. It felt like I was in a 70's Schlitz commercial when I walked in with my pee coat and skull cap on. The bar had a Schlitz neon sign and a Falstaff clock. I talked to the waitress and told her my reason for coming, and she explained they order it for one customer( not on tap), but he hasn't been coming around. Well, I don't drink enough of it to keep them ordering it, but it was a nice foray into a parallel dimension of a now marginalized popular beer. The clientele seemed nice enough, but who knows if it will change during tourist season. There's plenty of parking space too- had my brew and finger foods then called it a night. read more

I'm not a big fan of Galveston, but we found a bar that eases the pain of the drive down I-45. Jacks Pub is a classic, old school locals joint. It's a 5 minute walk from the Tremont Hotel, in what some may consider a dodgy hood, but its worth the walk. The burgers, pizza, and catfish were all great. The bartender, Jasmine, was a blast. Don't mess with the tourist traps on The Strand or seawall. Go local and seek out Jacks. read more

Alright spot but the owner is a bit of a jerk. Smoking allowed indoors which is a downer. Great pool table and dart boards but be careful if you have a beer with a koozie on it, Jack will give you a talkin to if you set it on the pool table edge. read more

My friend who really likes dive bars thought this place was great, and is responsible for us bumping this up from 3 to 4 stars. I would give it 3 just because the catfish I had here was definitely worse than the catfish I had the following night somewhere else, but she really enjoyed it (she also had the catfish). If you're just coming for local drinking and fun bar games, this seems like a great place to come, though. (They had a pool table, a dart board, and some kind of ring-pendulum with a hook game.) We really like this place. We are locals and I think Jack has the best catfish in town. Husband is a Yankee that won't eat it so great to have a place to get my "fix". Just wish he opened earlier as we are more daytime drinkers, due to being older than dirt. So, when we bar hop we are almost ready to go home when they open. But, the times we find ourselves wanting to carry on with the day longer than usual, it's time for Jacks! Friendly bartenders, food, even other than the catfish, more than acceptable. Every time we have stopped in, Jack is around. Nice guy. If smoke bothers you, oh well, you have been warned. Go pay 3 times more for drinks and food at the tourist places. Wish I was less intoxicated when I visited this bar. It was very smokey and my friend turned into a douche. The bartender seemed very nice considering my other friend hit the floor as soon as we walked in. Needless to say he wouldn't serve us.(don't blame him) he kindly asked if we would like a water. Me and the BF were looking for a comfy, cozy, smokey, seedy dive bar on Galveston island to wind down our Sunday afternoon, and my fellow Yelpers led me to this place. I was not disappointed at all. Down a few blocks and around the corner from the ultra touristy shops and restaurants of The Strand was this little gem. We hadn't even put the the car in park before getting a friendly wave from the owner, outside doing "bar chores" (I guess?). There was a small, but steady local crowd, free pool table, a jukebox (on which rap and country music were prohibited...*shrug*...
