UPDATE 1/16/2026 & 1/17/2026: We finally tried the food. Oh, man! Delicious burger, Southwestern eggrolls, and great hotdog. We love this place. We have ben a total of 3 time THIS YEAR already and we are super impressed with the seating, the service (thanks to McClane, Allen, and Cameron), the TVs all around, the prices, and now the food! (the hotdog photo was taken after I cut a piece off for my friend to try. The burger photo was taken after my friend dug in. Too good to wait! Next time we will try the breakfast!!! 1/3/2026: We really like this place! I see it being a spot for spring coming up. Abundance of TVs, 2 patio sections with TVs, great inside seating with booths, high tops, and a bar top. Draven was a great server. He kept the drinks coming for our 4 top group. We only had drinks that night, but they have a full menu that I must try, including breakfast! I was super impressed with everything I saw and experienced. $50 (before tip) for 7 glasses of wine between my friend and me. That's fantastic! This used to be a BBQ place before they moved in. It is a little farther west away from all the super busy beach places. I prefer that. I think we found a winner! Dinner at McNeal's Tavern. When on the coast, you must eat fish, so a fish sandwich was my choice. Oh my! It was delicious. It was sooooo big, that I just at the fish and slaw out of the bun. Yum, yum! I highly recommend when you are visiting Galveston Island. The bartender was great! The patrons were all upbeat and happy making for a fun experience while we enjoyed a meal and an MLS soccer match in a great atmosphere. read more

We stopped for breakfast on a Sunday after a 5k/half marathon event. Nicole was fantastic and took excellent care of us!! The breakfast selections were great, portions were huge, and there was no waiting. Surprisingly the restaurant was almost empty. We had the eggs Benedict and the veggie omelette...plus Nicole helped us get the bottle for mimosas because it was cheaper than buying 2 glasses. Definitely recommend!!! Food was really great. The menu was quite varied. The fish amd chip portions were huge. I am enjoyed a grilled fish sandwich with a side salad. The side salad was actually really yummy. Service was friendly but a bit slow but I feel like there were some growing pains. Live music inside but it was too loud! We chose to sit outside along with a lot of families. We dined at McNeal's awhile back and Colby was our server. He was fun and we were a handful. All in all the food was okay. Two of us had the wings and while they were tasty, they were a little overdone. Dan had the quesadilla and while he was happy with it, he thought it needed a spicier sauce. The chicken tortilla soup was great. The house salads were average. My Texas Quinoa salad was puzzling. The least noticeable ingredient in it was quinoa. There were a lot of mixed greens, copious goat cheese (yay), peppers, corn, black beans and maybe other stuff. There was a decided lack of seasoning and the salad dressing was weak. I wanted to like it but could not. Sigh. Major plusses though -- perfectly poured Guinness. We'll go again. For the Guinness and maybe some French fries. We went to McBeal's for St. Patrick's Day. My husband got the Eggs Benedict and loved them. I got the Fish and Chips which were terrible. I had previously gone and got a burger. I don't know why they don't put lettuce on their burgers. read more

I'm so happy to have this restaurant and bar heading west! This is close to my house, has delicious food and drinks and large TV screens to watch the game! My husband and I had Scotch Eggs, a Reuben sandwich and shoestring fries, and the spaghetti! All were excellent! We had a little hiccup with our server disappearing, but the bartender was quick to take care of us! We will definitely be back. There was also live music. I'm ready to try everything on the menu. This is an excellent sports tavern. The menu had some great pub foods including delicious scotch eggs. The bar has an incredible selection of drinks. Todd is a super cool server. Multiple TVs all around the place playing all the games you want to watch. Definitely worth a visit. read more

The service was pretty good here yesterday evening, they were busy but a bartender greeted us (party of 6) and welcomed us to sit where we'd like. The server came promptly and took our orders, he shared that they had just opened/reopened recently. My wife and I shared southwest egg rolls with the seafood pasta, and our granddaughter actually ordered the filet mignon. The southwest egg rolls were fresh, crispy outside, and the sauce served with them made them even more tasty. The seafood pasta could use more flavor, it's likely because the shrimp and scallops were not seasoned. The sauce alone wasn't enough flavor for us, but it was served hot and fresh. My granddaughter's medium rare filet mignon was good, she enjoyed it so much that she finished it. Also, their sweet tea was great, it tastes like it's sweetened with cane sugar. Don't let the tavern part of the name fool you, it's a good spot for families too. They have TVs all over, a nice shuffleboard, music going, and a big outdoor patio. When they first opened it was great. We visited about four times and it was consistently good. Recently it has gotten so bad. A salad that once had tomatoes , cucumber, red onion now contains only lettuce and croutons. Fries are always cold and service was bad. It went down really fast. It's a very calm and casual place, I've only been here twice. The first time they didn't make the ranch water correct but I didn't want to be difficult. This second time I went it was nice I had the shepherd pie, not a fan of lamb but this really hit the spot and the potatoes were really good. Let me start by saying the food was good, and our server was very good, but the owner was very rude. We recently visited for Monday Night Football. There were few seats left when we arrived, so we had to sit in a corner booth which was fine. There are lots of TVs, but we had limited view in the corner. The owner was standing up talking to friends, blocking our view. We politely let him know. His response was to suggest we change seats. He then sat down with friends, and all was OK. But he got up and left, when he returned, he sat on the opposite side of the table blocking our view again. It was OK because he was sitting. However, when his friend told him he was blocking our view again, he just shrugged his shoulders, and said he didn't care. We paid our check and left. I'm sure he didn't care because the place was packed. But that's no way to treat a guest. We can tolerate poor food. We can tolerate poor service. But we cannot and will not tolerate rudeness. Especially by the owner. We will not be giving McNeal's any more of our money. read more

Also met one of the owners that was very nice and struck up a conversation with me and the waiter was top notch. If you are in Galveston I highly recommend. My wife and I had a late lunch around 3 today. Nya (hope that is spelled correctly) was an amazing bartender. She was very personable and attentive. Granted it was slow but it wasn't like she took our order and ran off to her phone. The Rueben sandwich was amazing. The best me and my wife have had on the island. I don't usually send food back because I feel like a Karen buuut pllzzz don't put tomatoes in shepherds pie the fish and chips were great (batter could've been a bit fluffier,) the southwest egg rolls were ADDICTING, the bangers n mash had a taste of tomato's for the base but wasn't terrible (I personally wouldn't have added tomato's) ... But the service was absolutely wonderful!!!!! Nothing to brag about and plenty to complain about. We went there on a Sunday for a late lunch around 1:45. It was about one-third full, so we thought we could get in and out pretty fast. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come to our table. We ordered the McNeal's Classic, which is a $17 burger, and the Large Fish & Chips, which was $24 and described as "two extra-large pieces." We also ordered a salad that was supposed to come before the meal since we were already pretty hungry. The food didn't arrive until 30 minutes later. The salad came out with the entrées, even though we specifically requested it beforehand. Most people there were drinking and watching sports; very few had food, so I have no idea why it would take 30 minutes to cook basic items. The salad was small, already had some vinaigrette on it, and came with a side of honey mustard (which is what we actually ordered for it)--so two dressings for the price of one, I guess. We took a few bites and decided to pass on it. The hamburger and waffle fries were lukewarm at best. The burger itself was about the size of a slider, and for $17 we expected something bigger, hotter, and better tasting. The $24 "huge" fish and chips was about the same--lukewarm and overcooked. The "two huge pieces" of fish were each about 4" x 2" in size. We were starving but hoping the waiter would come back so we could tell him the food wasn't up to par. Fifteen minutes went by, so we just ate some of it until he finally returned, at which point we told him we were ready for the check--we just wanted to leave. To summarize: service was lacking, food was lacking, overpriced, and undersized. We won't be back. If you're a drinker and want to watch sports by the beach, this might be your place. We all know food tastes better when you're drunk, so I guess it's our fault for going in sober and leaving sober. Our water just didn't cut it, I guess. read more

What a delightful new place for everyone. We came to celebrate a birthday and discovered they opened only a week ago. Super nice setup, music wasn't too loud, and the food portions were abundant and deliciously prepared. Every staff on the team was well trained and very friendly. We arrived just as they were about to close the restaurant service but they went ahead and took our orders for 6 of us. Outdoor seating is available as well. First, no one greets you upon arrival. Second, service is absolute strict minimum. Third and most importantly, very pricey... 3 tacos for over $20 with NO SIDE! But the food is quite tasty, although not world class and definitely overpriced. Not sure it would be better than a good Mex food truck... I wouldn't come back. read more
