I have to shout out Adan and Shaye at Blake's Bistro/Starbucks in the San Luis! Adan made my stay at the hotel wonderful because he went above and beyond to be kind and make sure my food was delivered quickly! All week during my conference, Shaye was working hard at the Starbucks, delivering great service, tasty coffees and navigating a broken expression machine ... and all with a smile! On my last day I got to chat with her more since things calmed down and despite (what looked like), a crazy week, she still had a smile on and was so nice. The whole staff was honestly amazing, Jennifer served my team and I during a VERY busy lunch rush and she navigated a 150+ crowd with ease. Abigail was running food out and had a bubbly personality and Rachel was also hustling hard during the height of a busy crowd! I really appreciated the whole staff here. As far as the food, I got a bagel with cream cheese everyday and it was perfect for a quick bite. My last day I treated myself to an omelette and it was a great finish. For lunch at Blake's I tried the chicken nachos and they were good as well. This place was always packed and the staff was consistently friendly and efficient while I stayed here! Whoa! So I thought my wife had drug me into a fancy excuse to overspend on a meal she doesn't even like. I was wrong. I had tanked up on the continental breakfast before we go to Blake's so I didn't order anything but the table got junk fries, a waffle and the Nutella Monte Cristo. Everybody even my picky moody teenager loved the junk fries. Tons of flavor packed in and perfectly balanced. Nutella Monte Cristo what a good dish. Don't know what to say other than if you like Nutella you should try it. Waffle... was a good waffle. Coffee mid Service! 5 star. Very accommodating and welcoming. This seemed to be a nice looking place inside the San Luis, however it was a not very welcoming environment. Our server was not friendly and she seemed to be annoyed we were seated in her section. We ordered the shrimp kisses, which were yummy and had a unique variety of flavors. I then ordered the fish tacos. I was really disappointed. They were presented pretty but all three had a slab of tasteless, dry, very bland, white fish in them. I didn't understand this because the menu described the fish tacos as blackened and so flavorful, but they seemed to have no seasoning at all. Had a very lovely Christmas dinner. We made a reservation, the resort it's in is very beautiful. The food was good. We had shrimp cocktail, panko grouper fisher sandwich, French dip with sweet potato fries, and salmon Caesar salad. All very good no complaints. For dessert we shared the cheesecake which was very rich and delicious. We had a great waitress and the overall experience was very pleasant. read more

Galveston is a weird place when it comes to grabbing a meal. After a certain time you are limited as to where you can grab a bite to eat. It leaves you with a choice of hotel restaurants and hopes that you will get some decent meals. After arriving and running around all day, my colleague and I were hungry and needed a meal. We were staying at the San Luis which has a lot of different places to eat at. Not always the cheapest, but at least they are there for you to partake in. After meeting up with my colleague, we headed here in hopes of a quick meal so that we can get ourselves ready for the next day. We showed up, got a table and waited for a server to show up. Our initial server took our drink order and disappeared. While we were waiting for our drink order to arrive and having looked over the menu to completion we had another server show up to take our drink order. We told that server this has already been done and waited a bit more. Our original server finally shows up with our drinks and to take our order. A table near us had items that didn't appear on the menu, we asked about that and was told it was from the Italian restaurant in house, but that was all. If we wanted something from there we were told we had to go there. Strange, how did that table have the ability to do that but not everyone else. Then she disappears again. We sit and wait for our food to arrive. We chatted the whole time and I start to get antsy. I keep searching the restaurant for our server, she is no where to be seen. I actually spot her outside the restaurant running back and forth in the hallway. However, with all the running, we finally get out food. We eat our meal and it wasn't half bad. I went with the Bistro Burger which came with fries. Decently flavored and what I needed at that time. I had asked for mayo for dipping and had to wait a bit for our server to return with that. When our meal was over we sat and waited more for our checks to arrive. Again our server had disappeared outside the restaurant. What should have been a quick meal turned out to be over an hour experience. I do not know what cause the immense delays here, but it felt like it could have been figured out and mitigated by that point in the day. read more

We had a wonderful dinner and met two excellent servers and phenomenal people, Adan and Katie.  Both had terrific personalities and greeted us when we arrived.  We ordered from the Senior menu, which the restaurant serves from 4 till 6 p.m.  They advertise smaller portions but I can tell you their portions are ample and you won't leave hungry. The meal starts with a salad or soup, a selection of items for the entree, and another selection for dessert.  My wife had the half wedge of lettuce covered with pieces of bacon, halved cherry tomatoes, and blue cheese dressing for her salad.  Her entree was the Chargrilled Salmon with sautéed spinach on a bed of rice and lemon beurre blanc sauce. And for dessert we both had the blackberry cobbler. I also had the halved lettuce wedge for my salad. My entree was the Pan Seared Chicken breast with mashed potatoes, gravy, and fresh green beans.  Was it good...well my wife was too busy swooning over her food to have a conversation and my meal was also delicious, so I didn't mind the loss of her ideas or the informal exchange of her views. Silence was golden and so was our meal. Outstanding, impressive service throughout the entire San Louis resort. All workers, at various levels acknowledged/greeted us. Came in through the front entrance and was surprised with a stunning Christmas presentation through the long hallway. Then went to Blakes Bistro for breakfast. It now costs $23.99, so it has increased by about $5 per person from what . Our omelettes for thoughtfully executed with fresh ingredients. The fruit bar had everything we could think of (except pancakes & waffles) and there were also wonderful cheeses and pastries. Even the coffee was first rate and came piping hot. A beautiful atmosphere and stunning hotel. Exceeded my expectations. read more

This was a good experience until the resort owners showed up with their dog ten minutes after our arrival. I understand ownership has its perks. But it is never okay to allow your dog and toddler run amuck around the restaurant and resort floors. And it's even less okay to see a food service manager having to go get their loose dog to carry it back to the family multiple times. Not only is this highly against food handler rules and obligations of said food handlers, it's against the law. And it's obviously expectant of the owners that food managers babysit their child and dog. The entitlement was astounding. The shame ought to be huge, but I doubt there is any. It's very likely this is normal behavior for them. At the conclusion of our lunch, I spoke with the dog/baby sitter manager. When I brought this to her attention, she confirmed my suspicion that they were the owners of the resort. Wasn't hard to figure out by their entitlement. She was apologetic. However, when I also pointed out that she never even washed her hands after carrying the filthy dog, her response was somewhat gross. "But I haven't touched anything!" Will the health inspector accept that? NO! And neither should any customer of that restaurant or resort. The owners of the resort/restaurant should truly reevaluate their own behavior in their place of business. This isn't appropriate in any way. Owners and management should be extremely embarrassed by their behavior. And from the sound of it, that behavior won't change. And likewise, neither will their entitlement. Stopped in for lunch. So happy for the all day breakfast. It's a typical breakfast, can't mess it up. Otherwise the menu has great selection. The Island Poke Bowl was amazing. Staying at the San Luis Resort and being a little lazy to drive for breakfast, we found ourselves seated at Blake's. I believe even the iHOP two blocks down the street would've had better service. We got started with mimosas, and unless the chef had to run to the store and buy some champagne, I do not understand why they took 20+ minutes to get to our table. Another 20 minutes after the mimosas, the breakfast showed up, and it tasted OK, but it was not worth the 40 minute wait. Totally disappointing. read more

We always have a good experience at Blakes. If you want to eat in a super nice hotel, this is your place. The San Louis is gorgeous, it has a pristine view of the pool, and all the tropical greens. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the Buffay is fresh and stocked with fresh fruit, yogurts, toast, bagels, and all of your breakfast favorites. They also have an omelette guy but he needs more experience. However, that didn't dampen our experience. The bacon is delicious oatmeal everything there is very good. They have pastries as well. Delicious banana bread and of course they serve Starbucks coffee. So if you're looking for a very nice breakfast place, this is definitely your stop. read more

Perhaps it was an off night... Alcoholic beverages were delivered to our table before the water or silverware...sounds like a good time, right? Lol While I normally appreciate fast bar service, I don't think it should take 20 minutes to get a glass of water. We ordered chips & queso as an appetizer, and it came out solid and cold. Bizarre. Our server was sweet, but not very attentive. She had the queso corrected, but it arrived after our cold dinner. The only item on my plate that was hot was the chicken fried chicken, but I imagine that was only because it had just come out of the fryer. My potatoes and vegetables had the temperature & texture of items left out to defrost and just thrown on my plate. We were all starved from being at the beach all day, and nearly anything edible would have been fine. Microwave it, something. Just an overall odd experience. The only thing saving this from being a 1 star review is that the ambiance is magical (it's at a resort) and you can hear the wonderful live band from the steakhouse next door. I went to Blake's Bistro purely to listen to Taylor Lauryn play the piano Thursday night. What a wonderful night! Three of us sat down for dinner and were quickly served with water and menus. Since I had never been before I asked for recommendations. Our server on discovering we were senior citizens offered us the senior menu. What a great buy! I had filet (cooked perfectly), potatoes, caesar salad, and blueberry cobbler. It was delicious! After that, we went over to the bar and listened to Taylor. The service there was excellent as well. I had previously visited the San Luis Resort for a conference but never explored their dining scene. This was a pleasant treat. Blake's staff were very friendly and courteous upon entry. We enjoyed the fried pickle slices for an appetizer -- very delicious. I opted for the grilled chicken club with sweet potato fries and my date chose the philly cheesestake both quality meals that were very filling. I sipped on the Cadillac margarita for the night and only needed one - nice!! Overall, I enjoyed the place. Very neat and clean with attentive servers. We had Sunday breakfast here after seeing some reviews while looking for a breakfast buffet. It was OK, prices have increased and it was $24 a per for the buffet. It was pretty standard buffet for a nice hotel. I think you would have to be dressed ok to dine here, no super casual clothing, swimsuits or tank tops while we were there. The rave reviews had me expecting a bit more amazing but it was completely acceptable. The view was nice on the first row looking at the pool area and shoreline from up high. Service was nice and the room is pretty and clean, Lobby is more upscale. Some of the buffet items were not terribly hot, like the scrambled eggs. I am not sure I would ever go out of my way to dine here twice, but it was nice. They did have an omelet maker that could make you something custom. read more

Pretty good, 1st time went on busy Memorial Day weekend yesterday. Service was actually good. Chicken sandwich was good. Side of fruit was a generous portion Ribs were good. Fish tacos-fish was way too dry (couldn't even bend the fish) and flavorless. Mai Thai-too much alcohol taste for me. I appreciate the service at 9:30p.m. Waitress Pinar and another assistant Taela-both were so kind and great to us. Cleared up any dirty plates immediately. One of my kids dropped ribs and everyone time was taken to make another batch of ribs for us, which I greatly appreciate. The only reason I'm giving a full 5 stars is because of how well the server 'Alejandro' did. He was great! Very attentive and made sure we were taken care of the entire time. The food was really good as well. The only issues I had were with one of the managers walking around. She was quite rude. We also had complimentary breakfast but she claimed that it was only for the buffet. That was not the case, another very polite manager came over and verified that it was whatever breakfast items that we wanted cooked to order. To be honest, my expectations weren't very high for it being a hotel restaurant, but I was most definitely proved wrong. Blake's has amazing food, service, and quality. The menu is diverse and has a nice array of soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and other main entrees. Our party ordered the San Louis burger and the California sandwich. Both meals had great flavor and were cooked perfectly. Portion sizes were big and even the side of fruit instead of fries was large. Also, fruit was offered as a side so there was no upcharge. If you like chocolate cake you won't want to miss out on this one. It was probably one of the best chocolate cakes I've ever had. Service was amazing and our water was always filled and several people asked how are food and experience was going. I would definitely recommend this place to other visitors, especially if your staying at the San Louis hotel. read more

Got scammed today. I ordered a #1 with cheese (burger) for to go before 4 other people, but waited over 35 minutes. Those people received their food before me. And they ordered a variety of food ranging from omelette to burgers as well. I constantly had to ask the cashier and several waiters to check on my food, but they would always reply with "it's coming." After patiently waiting for 35 minutes, I asked again and the cashier helping me gave me an attitude and told me that she was going to check on my food again. During this time, I let her know that I was in a rush. She went into the kitchen and never came back. Before I ordered my food, I asked how long it would take to cook- she said it would take 10-15 minutes, but I waited double the time. Because I was in a rush and she suddenly disappeared, I had to leave. Never received food. The restaurant wasn't even packed. Waste of $21 read more

I ordered the shrimp salad, which had a menu description of lettuce, beefsteak tomatoes, and avocado, and even gave my dressing request. The server never acknowledged the fact that I clearly thought this was a salad with shrimp. What it actually was was a mayo based salad like pasta salad. The sweet potato fries were burnt and my boyfriend's chicken sandwich was fast food quality.
