Lots of good options on the menu, and I was craving their famous cinnamon roll pancakes, but then a server brought out migas to a table and I immediately knew I wanted that instead. Here, it's a little opposite from most places, you gotta pick your seat first then order as the seats, especially the tables, are hard to come by at times. There are plenty stools along the window but the tables are better and most tables are family style so you'll likely be meeting someone new. I also added a chocolate bread pudding for myself which looked really good. The rest of my group ordered the granny's breakfast with sausage, 2 scrambled eggs and Benny's tostadas. The food comes out surprisingly quick for as busy as they are. Everything was so delicious! I ate a little of the bread pudding at the restaurant, then eventually ate the rest over the course of the next few hours. Yum! This restaurant is highly recommended!

People rave about the service. The service is fine. You order at the counter and get your own silverware and drinks. The food is another story. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and corn. Mash was fine. Corn was whatever. From can to plate. Nothing added. The CFS was atrocious. It was like breaded & over salted shoe leather. See the pictures. I couldn't eat all of it. The best thing on the plate was the toast. Oh, and they charge $19 for it. Whether frozen or homemade, which I doubt, to deliberately serve this to a customer, shame on you. My wife got the BLT. $13.50 for bread and lettuce with a little bacon. No mayo or mustard. Plain and bland. We realized later that you have to procure your own condiments, I think. Still, it was not good. The fries were undercooked and tasted baked. Sorry, but I feal betrayed by social media and what must be friendly reviews. This review is honest. The place is cool and I had high hopes but was sorely disappointed. Oh, I had a piece of cherry cheesecake. It was good.

On the first visit, my dining partner ordered the omelette which looked amazing! You're able to choose your own ingredients. My chicken salad sandwich on a croissant was mediocre. The chicken salad was very boring, and the croissant was not super tasty. The next day the Eggs Benedict I ordered was excellent! The potatoes were cooked pretty well. Service was a bit lacking that day though, and I noticed several flies buzzing about next to us by the window. We didn't have to wait to be seated either day, so that is really nice. They have a separate bakery section with baked goods on display. Honestly, they didn't look super appetizing... oh well.

After much searching we came across this locals favorite and decided to try it out. This was the first place where I tried a poached egg and it was PERFECT! I remember getting a cheesy biscotti to dip in my eggs yolk and...just mind blowing how good it was. Many times I have thought fondly of this place but haven't had the heart to check and see if it is still open since many tropical storms and floods have hit Galveston since our last visit. Covid happened since our last visit too! I mentioned this place to a friend and she got excited over the building. Hearing her mention the building, I searched the business. Sure enough, it is still open!!! I now need to make the trip back out to this delicious memory lane.

Sounded good to me, sign me up. After a brief search for parking, we hopped out and got in about an hour before closing time. This is one of those joints that serves breakfast and lunch, the closes. Noted for my next visit. We walked in and were greeted promptly and seated. This place gives off a general store with an old diner type vibe. I was digging it, feeling very nostalgic. The nice waitress took our drink order, and we perused the menu. With an hour left to close, I prompted my party not to take their sweet time. The menu has a lot of delicious looking breakfast items and some yummy sandwiches. In the mood for brunch, I focused on the breakfast portion, as did most of my party. All, with the exception of my wife ordered the French toast with bacon. I ordered my bacon crispy. The wife ordered a BLT of some sort. The food came in good time. We all got to work quickly on our plates so we fill our bellies, and let these nice folks go home. One of my kiddos complained their bacon was too crispy. Looking down at my bacon, it looked a little limp. I took a bite and my bacon was like rubber. Well crud. The waitress mixed the orders up. I could have just got their bacon, and they could get mine, but I do not like fingering someone else's food. That was on me, but if you do not like chewy bacon, ask them to make it crispy, and not mix it up. I started on my plate and woofed the French toast down. It was pretty good. I will admit I had higher hopes and it was a bit underwhelming. Tasted more of the griddle than I wanted it to. That being said, it still was pretty good. We all finished our plates, looked around the store briefly, paid, then were gone in a flash. Overall, not a bad experience. We will be back on one of our future trips to the strand. There were a lot of menu items that I would like to try. As I browsed at other entrees of other patrons as I walked out, I got a better idea of what to order next time. I would recommend Star Drug Store for sure. Enjoy!

It had way too much vinegar in it, and it was not edible at all. The waiters explained to me that it was garlic slaw. It was not it was vinegar slaw. As far as the ribbon sandwich, let me say if you went to the store and bought sliced pastrami, put two slices on a piece of bread, literally and a couple tablespoons of sauerkraut with some thousand Island dressing on a cheap piece of rye bread that was probably from oral wheat or a store-bought brand. That is the explanation a total joke of a sandwich and it was $15 for the sandwich so disappointed I will never go back there again. I think it's a place for the tourist not the locals at all.

We, like many other diners, ate outside - the window for eating al fresco is narrow so we do it while we comfortably can. We were tempted to get Roman artichokes for our appetizer knowing how delicious they are, but instead we ventured out and got the calamari puttanesca. Good decision? Absolutely! The squid was tender, the capers lent delightful brininess to the intense-in-a-good-way San Marzano tomato sauce. The only thing that would have improved the dish is if we'd had the smarts to order bread with it to sop everything up. Next time, next time... Dan being Dan had to have Greek salad. We shared it and I must say that I really appreciate their approach to this ubiquitous offering. It has feta, but its presence is not heavy handed. Don't get me wrong - I adore feta but sometimes it overtakes a salad. There were Persian cucumbers, small yellow tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, very fresh, crisp lettuce, and no pepperoncini! Now you might think the absence of peppers would be a bad thing but I beg to differ. Too often restaurants use them and they turn out to be tough and woody. For the record, of all brands we've bought, DeLallo is consistently the best. For mains, because I am just about incapable of not getting it, I got the boscaiola. If you haven't had it, get it! It's a stunningly well balanced dish of pappardelle, mushrooms, and confit chicken. It is perfection in a bowl. Dan got the rigatoni alla vodka with confit chicken. The rigatoni entree is what we saw on Facebook some time back that made both of us think that we really, really needed to give Gonzalo's a try. Pro move, y'all, pro move! Drinks: old fashioned for me and a whiskey sour for Dan and glasses of Pinot grigio. Did we have room for dessert? No, and that made me a little sad. But we'll be back! Dan has a birthday coming up...
