One of the best bar grilled cheeses EVER. Plus the bartender here is outstanding. Drinks are well priced for a more touristy area and the bar itself is so welcoming, especially for newcomers. My husband and I spent several hours here chatting with the locals and we could've stayed even longer but had to catch a flight out of Houston. Definitely will be back for another bite and a round next time we're in Galveston! read more

Everyone sure wasn't kiddin' when they said Press Box has one of the best Reubens around! I got it to go on my way home, and I know the food is outstanding when I put it on a plate but don't make it out of my kitchen without taking a few bites standing up at the counter. Every single part was cooked to perfection... and the tots were amazing as well! Crispy and flavourful. I don't have many Reubens left to try on the island but I see this one staying in the top 3, if not holding the #1 spot! Inside, it's very cozy pub-esque and I would have no qualms going back and dining in instead of taking out. The employees were very welcoming and genuinely sweet. Wife and I came in again today. IF DAWN THE LUNCH WAITRESS WOULD SHUT HER KNOW IT ALL SELF ABSORBED PIE HOLE FOR 10 SECONDS TO TAKE CARE OF HER WAITING CUSTOMERS WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER. Went to Press Box to take a break from a conference and to watch some NCAA basketball recently. Met some folks there. Bartender was very hospitable and she put the game we requested on the TVs. Music was at a decent level... not too loud. Place had about a dozen locals in it. A few tourists drifted in and out. We enjoyed our time there. Nice local neighborhood bar. Rudy B what on Earth has happened to your Reuben sandwiches ? So disappointed !! The last one I got had two paper thin slices of meat! This was our regular order we loved your nice big Reuben sandwiches . When I sent it back the girl said the cook said that they weigh the meat . If that's the case those two paper thin slices of meat would have barely registered a food scale . Would have written this off as just a one-off but this is the second trip there that they've handed me a sandwich like that I sent it back and left I am so disappointed that we can't come in and get a good sandwich any longer . Well to start, we were a little disappointed eating here. Its a cute little bar setting but the food was not very good. There were 4 of us and we each had ribeyes all Med Rare and baked potatoes which only 1 was cooked correctly, tough, didnt have much flavor, and we had to keep asking for stuff like 1 of us didn't get the potato, and 2 of us only got butter when they were all supposed to be loaded. It was a VERY easy order to do bc they were all 4 the exact same. My 2 friends ordered margaritas which the waitress put in (mind u there was only 3 other ppl in there at the same time as us) after asking the waitress 3 times for their margaritas I finally went to the bar myself and asked the bartender myself and she said "I didnt get a margarita order" I said we ordered 2 margaritas 20 mins ago... she asked the waitress and the waitress said she put the margaritas in and when the bartender looked at the ticket printer, it was still sitting there...... no apologies no nothing! They could hardly drink them bc they were so nasty. We really had high hopes as we had been told this place was GREAT for a local hole in the wall and we were VERY disappointed unfortunately! read more

Friends and I went here for a quick drink on a Friday night and when we walked in the place went silent. The bartender would not look at us. They've got lots of teles, a juke box and a food menu that ROCKS. I got chicken fried chicken with a side baker (there goes the diet) and the beau downed a chili burger with the best tots evar. Very unassuming, very cool place. Not a fan of carpet on the floor but staff is ALWAYS friendly and attentive. Kinda feels like Cheers where they all "know your name" kinda vibe. The food is good, I usually get chicken fried chicken and it's very fair, burgers good too for a bar, best tator-tots ever, and I'm not a tot fan. It was a rainy day and we just wanted a fun place to have a drink after lunch. The woman behind the bar immediately told us the kitchen was closing soon. We said we just wanted a drink. The woman banged on the bar like she was in a hurry. When we told her we were just there for drink and she continued to be extremely rude. We left immediately for the rudeness. We were just looking for a fun local place to go. You should just say "locals only" on the front. We are from Pasadena and Seabrook and thought we would be welcome. read more

Look for the iconic neon sign! We were visiting the area on Christmas Eve night and we enjoyed downing beers and shots with the regulars. Super fun bartender and bar crowd in general. We were super grateful their kitchen was open-not much was open over the holidays. Food was outstanding. I had the chili (no beans!) and a good salad, my date had a coney-which was huge and super tasty, dog was good quality, maybe Nathan's? Prices were also super cheap. It was a great place to spend Christmas Ever and it was one of the highlights of our holidays this year! read more

Local neighborhood joint. Wife and I have been eating there for years. One of few places to get corned beef on St Patty's(the Ruben). WTF Galveston? Went last night with the Missus for Prime Rib night( Monday and Tuesday). Prime rib was incredibly fatty, rubbery like they heated it up in the microwave and forgot it. Dry, tough, no flavor. Must I go to the Sal* **ass on Seawall and pay Dallas prices for a good piece of beef? Come on you guys used to do a very decent job on prime rib and last night was really bad. Told waitress and she apologized. Not good enough. Might be back but right now I don't think so. read more

The layout was odd. All high seating (bar stools) makes it difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The theming is thorough, going with the pirate motif, however they also just phoned it in for most of it. The tabletops are screwed into the barrels beneath, with the exposed heads sticking above the table top. The sparse decorations placed inside are mostly from a Halloween store or Pirates of Caribbean props.

I've never seen anything like it in my life at a restaurant. The amount food per dollar is definitely worth it. THE MID- I've seen a lot of reviews on how the food is fantastic. This is simply not true. Whatever those people were on writing those reviews... I want some of that! Seriously though, the food tasted like frozen food (I CANT PROVE THAT), and if it's not, then at best, it is seriously bland. When calling a friend later that night, I recall touting the restaurant as "The Target Version of Applebees". It's definitely better than an Applebees or Chilis... but not by much. In short... if I was rating on food alone... 2.5-3 stars. But the atmosphere and the omnipresent Tombstone on the TV cranks this place up to a 4. I won't be back, but it was 1000% worth it to go once.

My older kids didn't love the calamari but I think they were just overwhelmed by the tomatoes. The creamy tomato sauce that came with it was so delicious I would buy it jarred! My youngest reported loving the sliders and the fresh fruit cup was good fruit not cheap fruit. The sole reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the hostess humiliated my oldest, albeit unintentionally. He has a brain issue and is small. When I tried to give him an adult menu the hostess was questioning him on his age and was visibly surprised he is a teenager. I tried to shut her up but it ruined the experience for him bc he doesn't want to discuss medical info to make people stop talking. I could see if I were trying to get an older child a cheaper kid's meal but that wasn't the case. I think she just needs better training to not grill people. Just let them eat. The waitress was amazing and the bartender made the drinks PERFECTLY!
