Ok- so- I said I was going to return within a couple months last time and I didn't. Took me 5 years. I wanted to replace the tank top I had previously bought. Unfortunately they didn't have it and I had to settle. Sweltering hot Saturday at 4pm. Party of 2. We chose a table outside with a view of the water. Unfortunately it also allowed the biting flies to torture the poor service dog that was with us. And also it was hot. Sooo hot! We placed our orders for the shrimp basket and shrimp tacos. I requested fries but received grilled. Still tasty. And last time I was automatically served sweet potato fries (I fed the seagulls) but this time I was given a choice of fries. I chose regular fries. There were NO seagulls this time to feed my leftovers to. (Sad face) So we arrived at 4pm Drinks delivered at 4:20 Meals at 4:30 The LSU game was on so we were not in a rush. My only complaints were that the restroom wasn't tidy. Service is kinda slow. Even the covered room is open air (so HOT!) I came in recently one chilly weekend to the warmth and good vibes and delicious food being served at Stingaree. I was visiting from out of town at a beach house a family friend kindly let us use and she said we absolutely had to stop in for dinner here one evening. We were a larger group of 8 but they had no problem accommodating us. They don't take reservations but we called earlier in the day and they told us when to come in for dinner service (6 on the dot) and they had an area set up for our group. I can't rave enough about this place. The service was impeccable and every staff we interacted with so, so friendly and welcoming to us. Most of our table went with their many diverse seafood options and said how delicious everything was. I wasn't in a seafood mood and opted instead for the grilled chicken smothered with bell peppers and mushrooms. I was genuinely shocked by how moist and juicy the chicken was and loved the blackened cajun seasoning used on it. The salad that comes with the entree was also a VERY generous size and you could easily get filled up on it if not careful. No visit to Bolivar will complete now without stopping into Stingaree from now on. read more

Most important message is to get there early! Before 5 so you don't have a long wait time. Food was absolutely delicious! My husband and I ate upstairs because the below restaurant was a little too loud from the live music. However, we had an amazing dinner. Our waiter, Chris, was phenomenal. You can tell he is very experienced and has the perfect personality for his job. I highly recommend eating here, just encourage you to go early! read more

Don't go if you have a party more than 10. They won't sit you together and could be sat an hour apart from your other table. We have been coming here for YEARS as a large group and have always been sat together but seems they have a new "hard rule" of 10 person max. Great food and amazing service with minimal misses. There was so much to enjoy. We had grilled platter, coconut shrimp, hamburger, jerk shrimp, and endless oysters as our mains. Everything was delicious, but the surprise star was the mango habanero dipping sauce. 10/10. Hush puppies dipped in that were amazing. Really anything... it paired with the oysters or shrimp, too. The coleslaw was the only miss, but it's complimentary. Mine was a bit frozen still and relatively flavorless. Skip it and you'll be just as happy. The desserts were all amazing. Chocolate cake and key lime pie were HUGE and great. The ... Chocolate torte... I think it was... was excellent. I'm not gluten sensitive, it was just worth trying. I would leave a zero if allowed. We waited two hours longer than we were told. To begin with, They seemed annoyed that there were nine of us. We rented a house nearby for a weekend away after the passing of a loved one. Other large groups were seated before us. They simply did not care that we had young children with us.. I paid for the food. Most of us did not eat and left. One person in our party did not get any food at all. we will never set foot in there again. We had a great weekend in this town but there are other places to go to for a nice dinner. Go elsewhere. read more

Excellent food at Stingaree and - although we didn't take advantage - it's also dog friendly on the patio. We recommend ordering the crab stuffed jalapeños (amazing and unique) and asking for a side of the honey-jalapeño sauce whether your entree comes with it or not. read more

We always venture to the Stingaree at least once every trip we make to Crystal Beach. Food is always consistent and tasty. This time I ordered the whole fried flounder special and it was spectacular!! It was perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Mediterranean crab fingers. There are 2 separate restaurants with different menus at this location: Stingaree up top and the Cafe Down Under at the bottom. We tried both. CAFE DOWN UNDER: We ate at the Cafe Down Under for Lunch on the Friday. It was super cute and not very busy at this time. There is a walk up bar, outside seating, and live music at times. We all got the burgers or chicken tenders, which were great! The burger and fries were both some of the BEST I have ever tasted. STINGAREE UPSTAIRS RESTAURANT: We ate here for the Saturday night. The food and drinks were great at the Stingaree. Service was pretty quick even with them being busy. Be sure to be prepared for a good bit of a wait for weekend dinners, especially in the summer months. The Cafe Down Under can help pass the wait time though. You can order drinks, snacks, and listen to live music under the Stingaree to keep busy while you wait. Larger groups do beware, they may split your party up without being made aware of that until after they call your group up. Our 16 person group was split up, when we asked not to be. We all made our way up when called, only to be told only 6 seats were ready. This was obviously not made aware to us before hand, so the host got frustrated with us trying to figure out who was going to go in to eat first and who were going to wait even longer for another table. It would have been more appropriate to be made aware of this before hand instead so that we could've split ourselves up more reasonably. Just be sure to ask about the seating arrangements when you are going with a big group. All in all, the restaurant is great, just a few bumps in the road here and there like all places will have. read more

We absolutely have no reason to EVER go back. Roxey, our waitress, was having a bad day, or just didn't want to be there. She wasn't happy, and every table she waited on knew it. The food was just barely eatable. We had an assortment, from pecan crusted red snapper, $35+, that was awful. Honestly, I didn't know you could make Snapper taste that bad. I ordered an assortment of fried catfish, oysters, and shrimp with beans and rice. The most eatable on my plate was the fried catfish and beans & rice, they were pretty good. The oysters & shrimp... This place hops on the week nights so get there early or expect a long wait. We dropped by one night and were told the wait was an hour and a half so opted to return the next day instead for lunch. Not sure what the allure was but the lunch was ordinary fare and a bit pricy. Must be the waterfront views as the menu didn't feature any standouts and the service was just adequate. We ended up with a Greek salad with shrimp and the lone and well hidden burger on the lunch menu. Both were okay. The boudin balls were also okay and fairly large. We have been twice and this food is delicious! The seafood is so fresh. We had the most amazing appetizer! Filet with bacon and blue cheese crumbles and fried oyster each serving sitting in garlic butter. quite a combo so we had to try it. 5 stars! Last time we had oyster poboys and a cup of gumbo. My husband and I came down specifically so he could get the all you can eat oysters! We had missed the last few times. They did not disappoint. He loved them and definitely got his moneys worth. I got popcorn shrimp which were really just regular shrimp with no tails. They were also delicious. We had a wonderful waitress named Kacy K. Very sweet and helpful. Never had to wait for anything. Me and my girlfriends family went in to eat and my father in law spoke so highly of this place saying it had been a few years since he's ate here but remembering it being really good so I came in with a lot of high expectations only to be disappointed the fish on my fish tacos felt and tasted like rubber the onion rings I got didn't come until after I finished my meal and our waitress didn't ask once if we needed a refill on drinks I had to stop her and ask if I can get some more water so overall the food was very mediocre and the service was just as bad as our waitress seemed like she wanted nothing to do with us please do better. read more
