Basin Bistro is a pretty neat looking place located in the casual and upper end of island. Located in a rather "Plantation by the seaside" inspired neighborhood, Basin Bistro is situated right in the middle of a fun commons area. Don't let the physical stuff throw you off, the food and my experience wasn't great. I ordered the Poke bowl since I was in the mood for some seafood and something light. It came out with the usual fare of greens, edamame, tuna, and other typical items. However the tuna has a noticeable fishy scent, stronger than my usual poke bowl experiences elsewhere, perhaps temperature/handling was not the best or they acquired lower quality fish. Either way, the unpleasantness was definitely noticed. They also had a dressing that was obviously italian mixed with soy sauce. I guess poke bowl is like a salad... and to make it "asian" add soy sauce to it? Perhaps. Powdered eggs - give me a break. My baby ordered eggs, hash brows, biscuit and sausage. The eggs was definitely made from big batch mix of eggs, not fresh like one would anticipate from a location like this. You would think they can afford actual fresh eggs, but going with a premixed factory bought batch of egg mix for an institution like that made me upset. That breakfast plate was not much better than a hotel continental breakfast. However the hashbrowns weren't bad. They had one toilet to the restaurant for both male/female. The entire restaurant uses ONE TOILET. There was constantly a line waiting to use the toilet. Half my table was out waiting in line and not enjoying a meal. SMH I had higher expectations for this restaurant, but between waiting in line for the restroom, cheap egg product and fishy tuna, my experience was nothing to brag home about. I'll find another spot to eat breakfast next time. read more

Located in the small community of Evia on Galveston Island, Basin Bistro is a cute cafe perfect for brunch. The space is bright with plenty of seating. Once ordering at the counter, it's self-seating. Service was quick and pleasant. There's also a variety of stores to shop at in the immediate area surrounding the restaurant and a small lake perfect for a stroll. We ordered the fish tacos and poke tuna bowl. Ingredients were fresh for both plates. The poke bowl serving size was on the smaller side but otherwise the bowl was well made and tasted great. So we came to Galveston from Memorial Day weekend and I found this coffee spot next-door and found this breakfast spot that had such good options on the menu and they were so different very filling menu It was a Sunday morning and they were super packed, but efficient in their dining experiences. I took mine to go and it took about 20 minutes to get it ready. I just ordered the chicken sandwich that was filled with fried chicken, fried egg, gravy, cheese and a biscuit on top and oh my gosh, it was so filling and divine. It came with a side of round hashbrowns. Everything was so good. This was huge, so I shared it with my mom. The staff was very efficient and sweet. The outside seating is so cute. This review is based solely on the service, since we walked out before eating. We were not greeted when we walked in and the position of the counter made it confusing as to if we were supposed to sit down or order at the counter. Since the girl at the counter just stared at us, she wasn't any help. When we did start asking questions, my husband asked about the type of tortilla they use for their breakfast enchiladas. He has a gluten allergy and was hoping they would use corn tortillas. Her response was that she assumes they use flour. There was no offer to ask, she could only assume. The service here was horrible. We ended up leaving out of frustration with the staff. read more

I've had my eyes on this bistro for some time now. Glad my husband decided to stop in for some breakfast. It's cute and quaint and has great lighting. Makes the place feel open and breezy. There's patio seating out back with a beautiful view of the lake. Place your order at the counter and you'll be given a number to take to any table of your choice. It's a great place to sit with your laptop and get some work done or with a group of friends to grab a bite to eat. They have a delicious frozen rosé drink called, Frozé, you have to try it. They also offer beer by the bottle and wine. To eat I ordered the Evia Omelette and instead of the toasted sourdough bread I exchanged it for their Honey Butter Biscuit. Stopped in at Basin Bistro for brunch and it did not disappoint. We ordered two Evio Classics -- one with scrambled eggs and sausage, and the other with bacon and two over-easy eggs. Both plates came with a biscuit and tater tots, which honestly stole the show. The tots were perfectly crispy and buttered so well, and the biscuit was warm and flavorful. We also shared a short stack of pancakes, which definitely satisfied the sweet tooth -- fluffy, delicious, and a great addition to the meal. Everything we had was excellent, and the staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our visit. There's plenty of seating both inside and outside, and since it was such a beautiful day, we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine with our food. Overall, a fantastic brunch spot and definitely one of the newer go-to places in Galveston when visiting. Highly recommend checking it out. read more

My only issue is that you order at the front and then get your own drinks. We ordered brunch foods for the most part. Chicken and waffles were flavorful, the chicken was tender and crispy and the sugar crystals in the waffle really made it! We also ordered the salmon Benedict, my only change was from fish to ham, but it was so flavorful, the sauce was perfectly seasoned and the hash brown rounds had a good flavor. I was pleasantly surprised because it is hard to find a good eggs Benedict. We ordered the parm truffle fries for the table and they were to die for. The aioli was on point! The new Basin Bistro occupies the space in Evia once held by Lil Buffalo Grille. The interior updates of gentle creams and blues are gorgeous. The lunch menu has many great sounding dishes. For my first visit today, I opted for the Crispy Chicken Bowl- white rice topped with chilled street corn, slaw, blistered cherry tomatoes, cheddar cheese and cut up chicken strips. Served with jalapeño ranch. It was delicious! The flavors went together nicely, and the jalapeño ranch added just the right kick. My companion had a Grains & Things salad and added chicken. She was impressed by the portion size and the delightful mixture of greens, vegetables, and farro. The sweet tea is outstanding! Still the friendliest counter service around, and it looks like some of the old staff have been retained for the new concept. Will definitely be visiting again and again! read more

Just place an order with the welcoming lady at the counter, serve yourself some coffee at the coffee bar and take it out to the beautiful seating areas along the basin. (Indoor seating is also available.). The large pork enchilada topped with a delicious green salsa and an egg cooked to your preference was a hit! I never received said food, they told me they would bring it out and to go sit back down, then said server came back out and gave me attitude telling me she gave me my food (never got it and she still didn't bring it) then she brought said food threw it in front of me and proceeded to say here it's free. What a hidden gem. Our family visited for breakfast back when the Buffalo Grille occupied this space but we love the area so much we had to check the Basin Bistro out. So glad we did. Dog friendly outdoor area, delicious food, and friendly staff...they even gave us a plastic bowl to fix our dog her own water. My daughter and I shared the truffle fries and the chicken caprese sandwich. It all tasted so fresh and the flavors were excellent. We chose the street corn as our side and it was a bit onion heavy for our taste but still good. We will definitely return next time we are in the area! read more

Basin bistro is a great place to have lunch. It has the most beautiful setting and the food was amazing. We ordered the Korean BBQ cauliflower for an appetizer which was delicious! Between the four of us we ordered a Caesar salad (incredible) a club sandwich with fries, breakfast enchiladas and fish tacos. Everything we ordered was Great!! We will definitely be back!
