We had the misfortune today of wasting an 1 hr. roundtrip drive to experience the worst gyros possibly ever made. New management, NO manager on the floor, young people working their first job here. I don't know what side of the planet one would have to travel to suffer more offensive gyros like these. Unlike the original lamb gyros, these were some hybrid, air-injected, whipped-up meat molded back together to give the appearance of meat. One did not need teeth to bite through this mush-meat substitute with zero flavor. I tried three small bites and threw out the meal, as did my wife. The sandwich came out lukewarm and the fries barely warm. We spent $26.00, took a few bites, and walked the food back to the counter to throw it out. We asked to speak to a manager; nope, none here. We politely informed them how poor the food tasted, and that is when we found out about the new owners. We told them we were offended by the product, and they just walked away, not their problem. There was not one table with customers; how could they serve non-hot food? We informed them that we would never be back; embarrassing product. We were wiping our lips an hour later after the few bites, attempting to get the taste off our lips. It tasted like some type of grease fat - disgusting. As I write this, I see my previous review of 3-16-2024. This is HOW far this new restaurant has slid down the hill. They are currently doing a carryout business; this will NOT last long. The ONLY thing that gives this a 1-star rating is the fact that it looks like a restaurant and the walls are still standing. Could you make any less effort to run a business????

You can also indulge in hearty entrees such as gyros, moussaka, and pastitsio, or opt for lighter fare like the fresh Greek salad or the vegetarian-friendly spinach pie. To satisfy those with a sweet tooth, the cafe offers traditional Greek desserts like baklava and loukoumades.  I was surprised with some of the non-Greek choices like mozzarella sticks, burgers, BLT, Pork Chop platter, fish platter, (tilapia, no thanks) chicken salad but the Pita Pizza looks good.  We settled on Greek Salad, Spinakopita, Tenderloin Shishkabob, Tyropita, pita bread, hummus, tzatziki, Greek rice baklava and fries. I've been eating and cooking Greek food for decades and have had my share of the real deal and these folks at Akropolis Cafe do a very good job and I would definitely eat here again.  Note: I noticed in my search to find this place I saw lots of very positive reviews and saw quite a few complaints that didn't reflect on their food but repeatedly mentioned DoorDash deliveries that were disappointing. FYI Bottom line: Akropolis Cafe is a real gem in the Gastonia dining scene, offering a delightful combination of authentic Greek cuisine, warm hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere. And it always was delicious. I was so glad to finally learn they had a Concord location. The inside of the restaurant is kind of like a really clean fast food restaurant with a bar. Not a bad look but it definitely speaks to a casual vibe. Service was very quick. I ordered the gyro plate lunch special and let me tell you, it is a LOT of food. Very delicious food I might add. You definitely get your money's worth here. In fact I would say it's about as expensive as eating at one of the higher end fast food joints Anytime I get a hankering for gyros, I know where to go.

Upon starting to eat my lunch, I realized that the two extra dressings I paid for were not in the bag and that the drink was made incorrectly, which I requested I have sweet and have unsweet tea. Today I go to pick up my order and I informed a different young lady that came to the window that I had an issue with the order last week and I would just simply like for them to make sure my drink was made correctly today and that the two dressings that I paid for last week were included at this time. She offered to give me an extra drink since the one was made incorrectly last week and I declined because I am not in need of an extra drink. I just wanted my drink order to be made correctly today.I get back to my desk to begin to eat my lunch and I realize that there is a dark brown or black loose wave curly hair emerged into my salad under a tomato (I have straight hair). I called back and was told I could not be refunded because the manager/owner was not there and that the only option was to get a replacement meal. Granted I'm on my lunch break on a time crunch. I went back to get the replacement meal and a different young lady came to the window to ask what I needed to help with. I told her I was returning a plate of food that had hair in it and instead of an apology or saying sorry for the inconvenience she just turned around, grab the replacement meal and put the bag out the window. In summary, two weeks in a row something was not right with my order and today the Customer Service experience was poor. Hopefully in the future if a customer expresses that there is an issue with their food and they are on a time crunch because they're at work that they will be better accommodated than I was today because I have now missed my whole lunch break due to something that was out of my control.

It's great to see but I wouldn't rate any business based on mask wearing, only on their food and service. If for instance a wait staff member pulled a mask down to get fresh oxygen or even removed their mask, I certainly will not get upset. Life is restarting again, normality is slowly returning, it's time to embrace it. If people need more time for safety reasons until things are more back to normal before eating out, then certainly they should stay home and order take out or delivery. Mom ordered the Italian Garden Combo Dinner consisting of 'Marinated grilled beef tenderloin and marinated chicken tenderloin, served with dinner salad, pita bread, steak fried, and our tzatziki sauce', and a water. The salads arrived crisp and fresh tasting and the thousand island dressing tasted very good. Mom stated her salad tasted wonderful. The tea tasted good and not overly sweetened. We both enjoyed our salads and the waitress refilled our glasses twice without any need to ask. There was a short wait, but not overly long and soon the main courses arrived piping hot. Pizza has always been a favourite so I have very discriminating tastes concerning how it tastes. The pie had a wonderful cheesy pepperoni smell but the real test is the taste. As I bit down into the chosen slice my taste buds were very happy! The sauce was great and pizza cooked just right. The crust had very good texture and taste. Fresh dough was definitely used in making this pizza. It was a great pie overall and I took leftover slices home and enjoyed the rest later. Mom really enjoyed her dinner and said the tenderloin beef and chicken both tasted excellent. She also commented on how great the pita bread tasted. She visits other Italian restaurants in her area and likes Italian Garden versus the ones near her in South Carolina. They had great service and the staff made sure we were taken care of while there. I showed my appreciation with a nice tip for the waitress. This is a great Italian restaurant with a down home type casual experience located in a college town and it's worth visiting.
