We came here on an early Sunday evening on our way back from a weekend getaway. The restaurant was very clean and spacious, and the seats were very comfortable. I ordered the vegetable quesadilla which came out very hot and was plentiful. The server was attentive, and the food came out very quickly, even though there were several guests there. Last week, I found myself in western North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte, for a running event in Gastonia. That said, my hotel and dining radius leaned more toward Kings Mountain, NC, so that's where this story actually takes place. I arrived a bit early, checked into the hotel, swung by the venue to grab my packet, chatted with a few fellow runners, and then the most important question of the evening came up. Where are we eating? After a little web surfing, I landed on a spot called 238 Cherokee Grill. It was conveniently located near both the venue and the hotel, which immediately put it in the lead. My friend Jeff and I pointed ourselves in that direction. It was a Friday night, and the place was buzzing. We were told there would be about a 10-minute wait for a table. That slowly stretched into more like 15 to 20 minutes, but when two seats opened up at the bar, we made a quick executive decision and grabbed them. The bartender checked in fairly quickly, despite being clearly slammed. Once we had their attention, we ordered right away to keep things moving. I went with the classic burger, upgraded with lettuce, mushrooms, grilled onions, and a side of fries, ordered medium. Jeff went with the Smothered Chicken. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, and everything hit the bar hot. The burger leaned a little more medium-rare than medium, which honestly worked in my favor. Good flavor, solid burger. The fries were hot and crispy, exactly how I wanted them after a day of travel and packet pickup. No complaints from either of us. Portions were solid, and the prices felt fair for what you get. The only real downside was that initial wait. There isn't much of an entryway to hang out in, and with the cold weather outside, that part wasn't exactly comfortable. That said, the staff was friendly, the service was solid, and the overall experience was a win. Would I go back if I'm in the area again? Yep. The menu had a few other things that caught my eye, and I'd happily give them a shot next time. read more

Typically a decent place to eat. I've had several things on the menu- would NOT recommend the Mac n cheese. But pretty much everything else is decent. Is it outstanding? Nah but nothing to complain about. Cheesecake is great but cray expensive. Atmosphere is nice but not "romantic" - tvs at the bar. Booths and tables/chairs. It isn't a dive by any means. It's nice. Service was polite and prompt. Food was not good. Burger over-cooked. Fries moist, limp and room temperature. The "special grilled turkey swiss sandwich" was, as the Brits would say, the dogs breakfast. Minced turkey cold cut stir-fried with onion, red pepper, and sauce, with a hint of cheese, scrapped onto toast. If you hadn't read the description, you would have no idea what it was. And what it was was awful. Leftovers thrown together served between two thick sluces of toast. Room was fine, except for the splinter I got from opening the front door. Too bad. Service was awesome with Libby! I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with no tomato. Received my sandwich with tomato. Easy fix, just give me a new bun. Thought that third time was going to be the charm...well it wasn't. We were greeted at the host stand and seated immediately. After about 10-12 minutes and multiple servers looking at us and the host pointing while talking to servers, not one came by to greet us or say "I will be with your shortly, or may I get your drinks while your server is on their way" Very poor customer service! I'll start by saying the place itself was very nice. The restaurant was clean, and the interior was well-maintained and inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn't meet the same standard. I ordered a medium-rare 6oz steak with mashed potatoes, and while the potatoes were great, the steak was extremely disappointing. It took about 40 minutes for the food to arrive, and when it did, the steak was barely cooked. I'm not usually one to send food back (I don't mind a rare steak) but this was different. It looked like it had been seared for maybe a minute, and the inside was still literally frozen. After waiting nearly an hour, I was honestly disgusted. Stopped here for an early dinner (4pm, it wasn't crowded) while we were in town to visit family. Gross, disgusting food. My Greek salad was watery, and the idiotic waiter stuck his thumb in it as he was carrying it out. Gross! The chicken wings were overcooked, under sauced and they were not buttered (wings are supposed to be, I grew up in Buffalo). French fries were also gross, old oil maybe. My wife ordered brussels sprouts for a Mother's Day party, enough for a group of 15. She ordered these well in advance of Mother's Day to be sure they would be ready. We were on a tight schedule and this side would be very important. Imagine our surprise when we got home and opened the pan and found uncooked brussels sprouts!!!!My wife called the restaurant and all they told her was how long to cook them for! We had to hurriedly throw them in the oven for 30 minutes and they were still not done, but we were already 30 minutes late. I have never ordered and received takeout food that is uncooked. Totally unacceptable. We have ordered take out from here many times. Never gotten uncooked food before. Very disappointed in Cherokee Grill. You let us down. read more

What an amazing little spot!! We were in town for one night, and wanted somewhere laid back, with great food. This place exceeded our expectations! The hostess was super sweet, our server was BEYOND amazing and helpful, the bartender was great, and the food....y'all, if you haven't checked this place out, do yourself a favor and GO!! Everything we ate was so well seasoned, and prepared to perfection. They had no problem adjusting one of the sandwiches for me since I don't eat meat, and it was phenomenal. Half of it is currently sitting in the hotel mini fridge, and I'll probably be getting to it in a couple hours lol. We will definitely find our way back here one day. Love this place! I lived close by between 2015-2020, then moved to CO. I am visiting for the summer and this was the first restaurant on my list. 4 years later and they did not disappoint. The food was great, the beer was good, the price was fair, the restaurant is super cool and clean, and the staff is the coolest! Don't expect professional service. Expect PERSONAL service! We enjoyed our dinner at the Cherokee Grill. We stopped in on a Sunday for an early dinner. We sat in a booth near the bar. We ordered the firecracker shrimp appetizer which was great. The shrimp were large and the sauce was excellent. I had the pork chop for my meal and I choose my sides as French fries and sweet potato casserole. That sweet potato casserole was very sweet but still delicious. The pork chop was a large portion as well. He had the steak and mash potatoes with bacon and cheese on top. We have been back since and sat at a great booth near the entrance that has nice windows to the street. We will continue to visit this restaurant for a great meal! read more

We stopped in here for some cocktails and snacks on Saturday afternoon. The holiday cocktail list was delicious and we tried all four. Each one had a fun and unique special touch, and had something to suit everyone's taste. Very nicely curated specially cocktail menu for Christmas. Service is terrible for to go orders. They make you stand in this little tiny hall in the back. No one even comes to check you in even though you place your order 45 minutes beforehand. Waited inside for over 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge that I was there to get the order I placed almost an hour now before this. Then when they finally take your name, they take another 10 minutes to get your food. Terrible service. It used to be really good and really fast but it has gone way downhill. But wait it gets better. A local politician (rich guy) walks in and all the workers drop everything and treat him like he is Prince Charles himself. Get him and his posse a table within 3 minutes. It has to be cleaned off and everything but they will do whatever it takes to please him. When we got home the food wasn't even what we ordered. It was okay but still very disappointed. read more
