Lunch chopped pulled pork, corn and collard greens.
    Nicole E.

Came here to celebrate a birthday. At 1:30 p.m. on a Sunday it was still pretty busy. But we were seated right away at the table we wanted. They have a lot of space inside and tables. Our server was nice and got right to business. I browsed the menu beforehand so already knew what I wanted. I went for the lunch portion of a pulled pork plate. Lunch is until 3 p.m. by the way. Also there's a senior menu as well. Kids under 3 eat free. So I got the chopped pulled pork with collard greens and a corn cobbette. My daughter got a kids meal with Mac and cheese and fries. Drinks are separate. We got our drinks and complimentary hushpuppies first. The hushpuppies were good and served with BBQ sauce. My food was good and the lunch portion was bigger than I expected. I wish I had asked for the sauce on the side because sometimes I like to taste the meat without it. The pork wasn't too fatty which is sometimes hard to find. Collards and corn were okay, could have used a little more seasoning. It was a decent meal with food and service. It was crowded so was a little louder than I preferred. The family seemed pleased overall.

The restaurant is located close to I-85 which is nice for us travelers. Easy to find, plenty of parking and large, clean interior. The staff were incredibly friendly and the food came out quickly which was great for us. The hush puppies they bring out to begin with are really good. The food we had - pulled pork plates with collard greens and a back potato and fried okra were all very good. We will definitely try to stop again on our travels!

Visited their new location just a mile or so off I-85. Very nice spacious and well appointed. Keeping their tradition, the kitchen area is open for viewing. Our party of 6 seated immediately, about 4:30 early dinner, and quickly brought hot delicious hush puppies. Drinks came soon afterward. I was looking at a chopped pork sandwich but eschewed the bun and went for the senior chopped pork plate with onion rings. Good choice, it was much larger than expected! Plus they had regular tomato based sauce, mustard based sauce and spicy vinegar based sauce! The latter my fav and not easy to find outside East Carolina. Rings were crisp and delightful. My wife chose the same with tomato based sauce and loved it also. Since our party was all family, some of whom hadn't been together for years, we chatted before, during and long after our meal. Our waitress was fantastic and kept filling our tea as we chatted. Then the restaurant became very busy and we parted. An excellent meal, very reasonable prices, superb service, it was certainly worth going out of our way. When we are back in the area, we'll definitely return!

One of my favorite bbq restaurants and the best hush puppies around! I've been coming to hillbillys for years, and have always had a great experience. The food is great as well as the service, such a friendly staff. If you are in the Lowell area, do yourself a favor and stop by.

My husband ordered a side of baked beans.. served in a sauce cup. Portion size is very poor.

I am not a huge barbecue fan however, the brisket was to die for. I will absolutely order it the next time I'm in.

Shane's Rib Shack - The Grace of the Familiar…read more In an era of fast food, there is a profound comfort in finding a sanctuary of consistency. One does not always need the avant-garde; sometimes, one simply requires the reliable. At Shane's Rib Shack, the reliability is the art form--provided you have the strength to enter and the patience to stay. I must begin with a word of caution: the entrance requires more than a simple appetite; it requires a bit of muscle. The front door is unexpectedly heavy, a physical barrier that many customers seem to struggle against just to cross the threshold. Once inside, the reward is consistent, however, it comes at a premium of time. If you seek a burger, you'll be told there is at least a fifteen-minute wait. I opted for the Cheeseburger Combo with Fried Okra. The burger itself is a sturdy piece of work: the bun is the standout, buttered and toasted with a slight, deliberate crisp along the edges that provides the necessary structural integrity for the fresh vegetables within. The okra, a humble Southern staple, was respectable, but it could have been crispier to match the wait. To wash it down, the Sweet Tea remains a liquid gold standard. There is a quiet dignity in an organized lobby. Ketchup, mustard, mayo, and the house barbecue sauce are all stationed like reliable soldiers, ready for duty. It is an efficiency that respects the diner's time without sacrificing the experience. However, the true excellence of this establishment lies in its people. On this visit, I observed the staff navigating the treacherous waters of the "entitled guest"--those needy patrons who view service as a servant-class interaction. The workers here handle such turbulence with a grace and stoicism that is frankly remarkable. To maintain manners in the face of the ill-mannered is the highest form of professional poise. The Verdict: Shane's Rib Shack does not pretend to be what it is not. It is a masterclass in the fundamentals: good food, a thoughtful environment, and a staff that possesses a level of character far exceeding the price point. While I cannot give it a 5-star rating (partially due to that formidable front door), I think a 4/5 accurately portrays it--a sanctuary of consistency in a world of variables. It remains a staple for a reason.

I placed an online order with a scheduled pickup time, but ended up waiting over 20 minutes past…read morethe scheduled time. When I finally asked about my order and how much longer? told it had it happened to be sitting behind the counter ready the entire time, which was frustrating. The food quality was disappointing as well. The smoked wings were only room temperature and Sauce all over them when I asked for it on the side. The hot items were packed in the same bag as a two salads, leaving the lettuce wilted and warm Unfortunately, I didn't have time to wait for a fresh remake since I was already running late. Overall, this was a frustrating experience, and I would not recommend ordering online for scheduled pickup.
