There was a separate bar area that was not noisy and TVs were around the restaurant. We'll definitely go back if we are in the area again.

The lady was extremely rude and couldn't give me an explanation as to why. As much as we really love this place, after the last couple visits, we will not be returning! I did want to mention, there is a young girl approximately mid to late 20s with Sandy blonde hair who is extremely friendly. She always works during the day and I believe up until around 4 o'clock! ONE OF THE WORST PLACES WE HAVE EVER BEEN IN. While waiting on the hostess to sit us, she was on her cell going though her purse telling someone that , THIS PLACE WAS A SHIT HOLE with roaches and how she hated working there. To her surprize we were standing there, she was an older woman very skinny with glass and black hair, she was rude and very snotty. The food was very good and the waitress was nice and kept our glasses full. BUT THAT WOMAN at the register was AWFUL! She sat on her cell phone just about the whole time we were there, with the business phone ringing, Someone in the back yelled, answer the phone!! this happen twice while we were eating. Our friends that we were with, made the remark that every time they have been there on a weekend its the same woman working the register doing the same thing as of that day. I do not know her name nor do I care too. All I can say is that she has no business being a hostess with her rude actions. The time that we were in there people stood in line to be check out. When we got up to leave she never once asked how our food was, the only thing she did say was, and I QUOTE, can you give me a minute. She answered her cell phone while we were standing there and told someone to bring her lunch that she wasn't eating the food there! REALLY? After this, I personally called up there and ask to speak to a manager. They told me she wasn't there at this time. I spoke with a young man, and asked him to please have the manage to call me. I have yet to hear from anyone, I truly can not believe how this woman behave to the public. I hope, if there is a next time, that she will not be the hostess. The wait staff were polite and genuinely tried to make the experience pleasant, which I appreciate. However, people primarily visit restaurants for the food, and sadly that was the weakest part of the experience at Small Town Kitchen in Cherryville. On a scale from 0-10, where 10 is excellent, I would honestly give the experience a 1, mainly because the coleslaw was decent. We had a few of them back in the Mountains when I was growing up but here in the Piedmont, they were an institution. Not as popular as they used to be and some have closed but this is one of the best remaining ones. Located in Gaston County next to the South Fork River. It has they feel of a place where everyone is made to feel immediately at home. Like most fish camps, fried fish is the rule of thumb and theirs is excellent. Nice and crispy and while tartar sauce it the norm, I prefer either just lemon or malt vinegar. No problem. They also have fried oysters and fried chicken livers which I have had both as well as deviled crab. Portions are huge and I always end up taking the leftovers home. Staff is very friendly and helpful and place is immaculate. Service is great. Highly recommend.
