The last few times I've been Shelby Café, it has been mediocre at best. Today, I ordered the three vegetable plate and wanted broccoli casserole. I found out that there are no longer serving it, and in its place they now have cabbage casserole. The young lady on the phone helped me decide to give it a try. Don't get me wrong, I love cabbage. Fried cabbage would've been a better option for their menu because this did not taste good at all. Please put the broccoli casserole back on the menu, or consider sharing the recipe so that those that love it can still enjoy it.

If you want simple stick to your ribs pretty good food for a very, very affordable price check this place out. You'll feel like you stepped back in time with the decor! Our server was especially friendly and helpful. Our food was out so fast I wondered if they knew what we were going to order ahead of time. The bathrooms were clean! You seat yourself. It's a pretty large space broken up into two different sections and you can tell it's a local favorite! Seem like everyone knew everyone else except us! They cooked my over medium eggs perfectly and the liver mush was not oily or over seasoned! I didn't care for their hash browns as they were somewhere between undercooked in places and overcooked in other places lol! It's a simple menu but for $7 it did the trick!

Cute country cafe on Main Street. Little hidden alleys around and behind for places to sit. Great murals outside. Friendly staff and small "country store" aisle by the register. Food is good and diner-y

Our waitress was a five plus...friendly, pleasant and quick. The decor was a five..cute signs and pictures. The eggs and French toast a five..but the hash brown and pancake a 3 star. Easy parking on a none event (i.e. fall events corn maze etc) days

Stopped here for dinner one night just to try it. It wasn't exactly what I expected, after hearing alot of people go here. Prices are not bad. The night we went I ordered beef stew. Never again!!! It was not good. I could not believe they used canned potatoes in it!!! I asked the waitress she said yes that's how they make it. No Thanks!!! The Salad dressing honey mustard was homemade and very good! Then I ordered ham. That wasn't too bad. I don't remember the difference between city ham and country but I got the one that's thicker. The other plate was the other ham that was thin, fried till it was over done and like rubber!! Absolutely disgusting. Too thin and over cooked. By that point we just wanted to finish, pay and leave. I am not sure if we would ever go back. A friend said he got a hamburger there and it wasn't bad. So maybe to try that. This place was just celebrating 100 years in business. Crazy! I guess that's because they cut corners now compared to years ago I am sure.

Straight up diner cranking out all the usual suspects with a smile. Centrally located on the main drag, this is where everyone from the mayor to the Little League coach catch up while filling their bellies. I like diners especially for breakfast. Both our plates came out quickly, piping hot, and as ordered. I was disappointed, however, that both my livermush and home fries were cooked in the fryer and not the flat top. Overcooked. That said, I'll return since these places have a corner in my heart from traveling with my Dad who was a diner aficionado. Tired of the franchise version of breakfast? Gets the coffee perking on my "Give 'em a Whirl" meter. Pull up a chair here.

A Shelby staple. Can't beat the large portions and prices. Service is fast and friendly and atmosphere is homey. Everyone knows everyone here!

I heard about Shelby Cafe and decided today was the day to stop in for breakfast. Boy, am I glad I did. Hardwood floors moveable tables and chairs. I looked over all the menu breakfast selections, and they are all great selections, which made it difficult to choose. I ordered the vegetarian omelet, grits, and homefries, plus coffee . The plate was amazingly full of deliciousness. Tasty food and coffee. I'm so happy I stopped in. The waitress was very pleasant and efficient, very professional. Thank you.

Shelby, NC. Where do I begin. I've been traveling through this town for many years as it was always…read morea travel connector to both sets of grandparents who lived in Forest City as I was growing up. Never ever considered stopping for food here because getting through the city on 74 is tough enough as time seems to stand still here because no one, and I mean no one is moving quickly here. As the current situation is Shelby is now the half way point from my our home to where my daughter and grandson moved 1 1/2 hours away. Tuesday night we made the trek to pick up the grand for a sleep over, meeting half way at The Creekside Clock for dinner. In the entry way there is a sign stating that food is made to order so please be patient. OK. We got plenty of patience. Walk up to the counter and place your order, HUH??? Can I take a look at a menu? Sure, put on your glasses and read from the menu board. Sorry! I wasn't prepared for that. Menu looks great. There is a lot of variety and daily specials. We placed 3 separate orders, probably the first mistake as we were all sitting together, just not paying together. I am not a fan of paying before you get your food. Tip? What am I tipping? We sit with our little numbers on sticks at our table and a waitress comes to review our tickets and bring our drinks. So far so good. Ok now we wait. I can see the kitchen window and there are 6 heads in view and they appear to be super busy prepping and getting out the food. Apparently that wasn't the case. First order arrives, baked potato and chicken sandwich looks yum! A side salad was also delivered. A good bit later my meatloaf and fiancé's combination seafood plate and the grands shrimp. All looks good, alas, there is nothing on my plate that is even warm. I Asked if they had a microwave they could reheat my plate, it was that cold. Found out also that the chick sandwich and potato that was delivered first was not warm either. Still waiting on a steak and steak tips at this point everyone else was pretty much done with their food. The steak was good, again the potato cold. I am really shocked by all of the good Google reviews for this place. Although the menu looks nice. For them to boast that food is made to order, and not even serve the food warm along with the horrible execution, this was a one and done for us!
