doesn't show the venue much but it's the only photo I have

I've very much enjoyed a variety of shows here :) [[HIGHLIGHT]]The sound is great, the venue is large enough but not too large to not feel intimate, and didn't ever feel over-sold when I was there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you stick to the walls you can have space to dance, if you're on the floor in the pit you're obviously shoulder to shoulder.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Has a grungy vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's surrounded by tables and a few bars.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've actually never bought drinks here so I can't speak for the prices. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I suppose the only downside is I've witnessed a few fights break out, but the venue has security which is nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

My girlfriend and I went to see Franz Ferdinand last night, but I've been too Showbox SODO a couple of other times in the past. It's one of my least favorite venues in the Seattle area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's pretty much standing room only throughout the venue, unless you're lucky enough to get a spot near an overhang or barrier (or paid for a reserved table). It can get really crowded, and there'll be lots of jostling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's unavoidable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sightlines are also terrible, since everyone's at the same level, and you can't control if you get 8 ft. giants in front of you[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It gets really old standing for a couple of hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They've also carved up the space weirdly with random barriers delineating drinking vs. non-drinking, and the soundbooth is in the middle of everything.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We bought a couple of beers, which were $13 each. Not all that unreasonable for a concert venue, especially for tall cans (I've certainly paid a lot more at other venues). [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the place empties out it can be really crowded near the entrance.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you need to catch an Uber (mass transit is virtually non-existent, outside of the sporadic 21 bus to downtown), go a block or two north and grab your ride there. Oh, one other thing: we paid for jump the line privileges, but we ended up waiting in two lines anyway. Lot of good that did us.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Showbox SoDo gets some great concerts, but the set up and sound system are not great.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The ticket line moves at glacial pace, and thankfully it was not raining when I was here recently to see Underworld. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, the restrooms are way up front by the stage, so it can be a fight to get to.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ceiling seems low too, and at a recent show, the fog machine seemed to be a bit overpowering and I could not see the artists.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The stage also seems low, so for shorter folks like myself, it's really hard to see (for some reason, I recall that WAMU theater had a higher stage).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The view is better from the bar but the sound quality is even worse.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'll still see shows here, but it's not one of the better concert experiences.

I really don't understand all the negative reviews. Went and saw a show here last night and had a great time! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Clean open space, great sound, clean bathrooms with no line, bar lines almost non existent, friendly staff.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Showbox Market is my favorite venue so this place had a lot to live up to for me. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the drink prices/weak pours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Still a great venue tho![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All I can figure is that the bad reviews are from soft millennials and Gen Zers.

I was invited by a friend to come here for a lovely show by a group named Wild Rivers. A country/folk band. This venue is standing room only unless you pay extra for a VIP chair/table farther from the stage. I didn't eat food here but smelled it. From other reviews I was glad I didn't eat here. It's a concert venue, not a restaurant. The bar was open and of course highly priced drinks. I had a margarita. Keeping the vibes going from an earlier cocktail. It was good. Not great. The lighting here is really pretty. A light glow covered the entire room. And a nice light show during the concert. Employees were polite and friendly. There is a pay parking lot right next door. And street parking. Also, this theater is walking distance to TMobile park and downtown. I always recommend public transportation and a or a Lyft. Why risk your car getting broken into? Clean bathrooms too. I would go here again for a show. But pay for the extra VIP spot to have a guaranteed seat. SYOY.

If it's all general admission, why are tickets different prices?

Did you ever find out the answer? Absolutely no one is telling me the answer!

How is the AC in this venue?

I'm not sure it was running the time we went there. It was a rainy night. It was a little warm in the front of the stage even though I wore a tank top.

We played some board games that they had on hand and got a nice buzz on. The venue was spacious but intimate, perfect for a cover band. The sound quality was outstanding and the space was clean. The bathrooms were nearby and there were enough to use without having to stand in line, which was nice. The drinks were expensive and therefore it loses a star. I hate being fleeced on drinks after paying a high amount to get into a concert. The bartenders were nice as were the security personnel. Parking is kind of a pain as you have to pay to park in a parking garage or drive around trying to find on street parking, which is nearly impossible. Loved the vibe on the street after the concert. Lots of food vendors, music, and fun people hanging about. We would definitely come back to this venue.

We had a reserved table, and the food was pretty good. It wasn't just bar food, but they 'had decent salads and a nice variety to choose from on their menu. The waitress was pleasant and served without being intrusive during the show. The Royal Room is really nice on the inside. They do a lot of swing and jazz there, but it's a pretty small venue. I'ld call it more comfortable than quaint. Parking was a total pita, but the sound mixer was on point and the music was clear for every instrument with nothing over-riding anything else unnecessarily.

One process improvement since I last came for a show here is that instead of having the host check…read moreevery person in and then lead them to their seat (if reserved), they now put up name placards on the tables and let you find your own seat so the host can keep checking people in. This makes the queue run MUCH more efficiently. However, overall this place has actually gotten worse since my last review. Now, if you make a reservation (necessary for guaranteeing a chair) for only 1 person, they seat you at a high top that faces AWAY from the stage. As in, literally your back is towards the stage. If you rotate your chair, you face an aisle between you and the stage. The aisle is supposed to remain clear, but there is no real way for the staff to keep the area clear from standing-room-only attendees other than nicely asking people to move, with varying success. The venue's suggested solution is a small bench to the side of the stage, which they say you're welcome to move to if you can't see. Problem is, it seats 4-5 people max (fewer if anyone is manspreading) and is open to anyone in the room. The tables are moveable, so at minimum the venue could point them towards the stage. Fwiw none of this is the restaurant /barstaff 's fault. If anything, they seemed to agree that this is not a good setup. (Don't want to go into specifics to avoid getting any employees into trouble) A second issue with the seating is that once you sit down, the staff removes the reservation cards. This means that if you're at one of the high tops, walk in guests will ask you to trade/move spots. Don't agree to move unless you're ok with possibly ending up with no seat at all because it may be that you end up sitting in a seat that was actually reserved by a different person, from which you will be removed when they arrive. It's then up to the person with whom you traded whether or not they're feeling charitable enough to cede back your original seat. Other than the seating problems, I'd give this a 3/5 for acoustics and sound design (accounting for the fact that it's a small converted venue) and a 4/5 for the food (actually pretty good considering that it's a captive audience) TL;DR: Don't bother coming here as a single person unless you completely don't care about the artist at all, or you love the artist so much that you're willing to do anything to see them

Well thank you to staff who decided to keep it open because there were few other places open! Dead Line and the sister bar next door both have a few tables but mostly it's the bar ambience/moody academia. We chose to sit by the door and people watch. I got a cherry cider and it was good! We shared a salad, the steak arepa, and the pork arepa. The salad they had on the menu wasn't updated but they had a summer salad with watermelon and it was refreshing and great! The arepas tasted great but were pretty heavy, I think probably because of the sauce. But there wasn't really any way to avoid the sauce. Even splitting amongst three people it was a lot- I think it was still good to try, I liked the steak more than the pork, but I would've only ordered one in the future. Highly recommend visiting during happy hour from 4-6 pm for 20% off your bill.
