Partner and I stopped in here tonight for date night as regular malatang eaters and are so happy to have found another great place in the area! The selection is substantial, the staff was supremely helpful in making sure we knew exactly what to do, and the soup and toppings were yummy and a great quality. There was even some unique items like abalone and cuttlefish as options. A few minor criticisms: - You do have to meet a minimum of .8 lbs. My normal amount is around .7 for a meal. It does mean I had to get more than usual. Not a huge biggie, I have leftovers now, but a little inconvenient. - The music in there is quite loud, I had trouble hearing my partner across the table. - The non-fish meat options are more limited than usual. Only beef and lamb are options. I'd love to see some pork belly! - A bit more expensive than we're used to at about $16/lb Overall though, we really enjoyed dining here and have friends who live in the apartments around, so we will likely be returning. read more

Today, I had time to come back for dinner and this establishment did not disappoint!! I was very impressed by the hospitality and great food options for hot pot. The restaurant is small in size but full of great ambiance when walking in the front door. Staff greets you and offers to explain the process and menu (greatly appreciated) as I'm still new to eating hot pot. My spouse is very familiar but let staff explain so I could be well versed as well. Great food selection and price point was spot on. No confusion or objections on my end. The staff is very nice, and the interior is bright and fun -- but that's about it. Compared to other mala tang spots, this one falls a bit short. The broth wasn't very flavorful and leaned on the oily side. Some of the meat options also didn't seem as fresh or tasty as I had hope. There is also a minimum for your bowl weight, which is weird to me (I have never heard of this but someone correct me if this is a norm) read more

This is not an AYCE hotpot. It was by the pound so be careful on putting ingredients on your bowl. We shared a bowl and paid $30 with tax. The flavors are there. The numbing of lip spice is there it's just that I'd rather go to and AYCE hot pot where you can enjoy adding ingredients without hurting the bank. Service was friendly and the place is bright and open. I enjoyed this don't get me wrong. It's always fun to try new places. read more

We're fans of hot pot restaurants so we were looking forward to giving this place a try. This operates a bit differently than a traditional sit down restaurant. The heads up we'd give is the cost of the meal is in your control! Your eyes will likely get the best of you as you pile on a whole host of things to have in your pot and then be stunned when they weight it all and give you the price! They have lots of ingredients to chose from that you decide what you want and how much you want in your dish. Then once weighed at the cashier, you decide how you want it prepared. They over several options and different heat levels of 'dry' with sauce to full on soup. I went with one of their dry options with a light sauce with little heat. My husband went with one of the soup options with some decent spice level. The portion size of our bowls was rather large (my husband couldn't finish all of his dish which is rare!). I had enough for lunch the next day as well. Back to my opening heads up, this place is a bit costly. They don't serve alcohol and for our two dishes, it was around $70 including tip. Again, we were the ones who loaded up the tray with the items that went in to the dishes, we just didn't know how much it would be until it was too late to turn back. That is why I went with three stars as I suspect others will make a similar move with the same shock. ;) read more

It was so busy when I stopped in around 12:30pm on a Saturday. As soon as you walk in, you grab a tray and put whatever ingredient you want in your hotpot. It is by the pound so be careful on carelessly just putting ingredients on your tray. The beef bone broth is their original soup base which you can customize the spice level. I did medium spicy and it's just the right amount of spice for me. Definitely coming back when it's not really just like today to enjoy more of the ambiance and surrounding eating in a much less chaotic space. read more

They have been open less than two weeks and all of the labels on the bottom shelves are completely unable to be read. It made it very hard to pick items for our hot pot. You also use tongs for all items, but then your raw meat tongs also touch veggies and things which felt like it was going to make people sick. Multiple items, I think probably the proteins based on where they were located, were also missing and never replaced while we were there. The broth is very good and the pricing and portions are good as well. They do Pepsi drinks or milk tea, but when I asked what flavor the milk tea was, the cashier seemed very annoyed and said "just normal". I don't know what that means so I asked what the normal flavor is and she said, "sweet". read more

Really nice! Feels very clean with a solid amount of options that taste distinguishably higher end than typical AYCE spots. Included 3 different types of rice is a very nice touch. I decided to try this place because it was from NYC, and I know how good NYC dry hotpot is. I was excited to see how it compared. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't great. Parking is very limited. There are only a few spots available, and otherwise you have to find parking in a nearby lot, which can be inconvenient. When I asked a few questions about the food, the staff member helping me didn't seem very familiar with the items and didn't appear very engaged. I understand everyone has off days, but I didn't feel very welcomed or helped. It also took quite a while just to complete payment. They charge by weight, which I understand, but I ordered two bowls and was told one didn't meet their requirement, so everything had to be combined into one bowl to pay. That process felt confusing and unnecessary. As for the taste, the dry hotpot was sweet and spicy and didn't match the flavor from NYC. It just wasn't what I was hoping for. Dry hotpot is suppose to be spicy if it's spicy. Not sure why the sweet taste is there. I left feeling disappointed. I personally prefer Yonny Mini Hotpot & Suancai Fish or the one in Carrollton, where the staff has always been welcoming and helpful. I really didn't want to write this review but I just felt very unwelcome there and angry on that day. read more

Great food! You get to build your own hot pot bowl with your choice of broth. I added lots of veggies, vermicelli noodles, and beef! High quality ingredients too. They also have drinks like brown sugar milk tea with boba, peach slush, and a mango (coconut?) drink that was my fav! The service was great, they are always willing to help and explain if it's your first time. I went here with my husband and the place was extremely humid which I can understand due to the ingredient refrigeration. Tried show mini hot pot and I'll be back. You can tell they make the broth in house and the ingredients are very fresh. I'm not new to hot pot and Dallas has quite a few options. If you're a beginner or experienced hot pot, this is the place to go. The staff (An) was very helpful as well. I prefer these types of hot pot places over AYCE because you can take your food to go! This place is incredible. If you enjoy hot pot you have to try it. I haven't had hot pot this good since I lived in California. I don't understand how anyone could dislike it, you choose your ingredients, spice level, everything. I live an hour away and I would happily drive that hour just to bring my wife here read more

It was an adventure! I totally enjoyed my Signature "Mulla" Bowl ($13.95), recommended for first time guests. My wife, by contrast, formulated her own bowl of "Malatang". She loved it! Design it yourself bowls were $15.95 per pound. Service was friendly and very helpful. The venue was bright, open and clean. It was all together a fun outing! They are located in the "happening" City Line shopping area. Other nice places to to eat are nearby. read more

As one partner finished eating, the other's new dish arrived. This just added to the sense of disorganization in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be returning to this First Watch location anytime soon. There are plenty of other brunch spots that offer better service and more memorable meals.

I ended up getting one of their most popular broths based on the staff's recommendation, and they definitely didn't steer me wrong! It had a nice kick to it without being overwhelmingly spicy, which was honestly the perfect spice level for me. I do wish they had a little more variety when it came to the ingredients, but everything I picked tasted fresh and flavorful. One thing that really stood out to me was how incredibly kind the staff was. I was trying to FaceTime my friend while eating and was struggling to prop my phone up on the table haha. One of the employees noticed and immediately helped me find a way to set it up without me even asking. It was such a small gesture, but I thought it was SO thoughtful and really made the experience feel welcoming. Overall, I'd definitely come back! Next time I would like to try the combination, fish and beef soup. The homemade milk mochi was amazing. You cannot skip this dessert. 5-stars. The four of us split the soup for three and it ended up being around $30 per person. This was for lunch and we were very full afterwards.
