5 stars for our incredible dinner at Shosh! This new plant-based spot is quaint, quiet and quite tiny, making it a great place to dine if you want to hear the people you're dining with! The menu features clean wines and fresh Mediterranean style food. The 2 of us split 4 dishes: the Squash Blossoms, Truffle Tagliatelle, Kebab, and the Shawarma, which was my favorite item of the evening - loved the huge plate of hummus and bread it was served with. I would recommend all of these dishes. Don't skip dessert: the Chocolate Mousse was so silky and perfectly sweet and the Halva Sundae was tasty as well. The waiters were very knowledgeable about the menu and were able to find me the perfect wine to meet my needs (not acidic). Prices are a bit steep for the portions, but so worth it.

Gorgeous upscale vegetarian/vegan Mediterranean restaurant with a nice selection of wines. I had a lovely time here catching up with a girlfriend. The celeriac shawarma and eggplant dishes were beautifully presented and perfectly spiced (10/10 would order again!). We also tried a pasta dish, which was tasty, but nothing really special. Make a reservation because the restaurant gets pretty busy! There are also a few small outdoor tables which would be nice for warmer weather.

so much thought and effort put into curating each of the dishes here and it shows!!! the gem lettuce dish was actually phenomenal i left that plate CLEEAN. the shawarma dish was amazing too and made with celery root! got the bread super fresh and it was perfect. such a cute n cozy spot, great for sharing, and the staff is very friendly!

My favorite dishes in order of best to worst were the kebab, shawarma, eggplant, risotto, and tagliatelle. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. I would skip the tagliatelle - overpriced, overcooked, underflavored. It was nearly $40 and was supposed to have truffle, but it just tasted like buttered noodles. Definitely better pasta elsewhere. Service was quite good. We had to wait about 10 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. We sat in front of the kitchen which was a fun experience and made us even hungrier! Desserts were unique and worth trying.

came in here on a whim because the place i wanted to go originally was full. the food was delcious. the persimmon salad was nice and refreshing. the falafel was perfectly crucnhy and soft. the fettucine and risotto layers of flavor. none of the dishes i ordered had meat in them (which is rare for me) but this restaurant has opened my eyes to the fact that dishes without meat allow for the flavors of the ingredients to shine through better. cant wait to come back

OMG finally a vegan restaurant that appreciates vegetables and serves up artful, seasonal, flavor-packed veggies in course after course. A refreshing change from all the restaurants dishing up deep-fried fake meat. Shosh is a real treat, on the level of the Chef Guy franchise (Anixi etc.) We started with the focaccia which comes with an olive and tomato dip. Can never resist focaccia. I have to say, this was an unusual rendition of it. It was like a big handful of pizza dough was stretched into an 18-inch baton and then baked. Tasty and fresh, but more of a breadstick experience than focaccia experience. We had the seasonal soup, whose details I am forgetting but was a delicious puréed root vegetable experience. Next we got the iconic celeriac shawarma. SUPER fun dish that is not to be missed. Love that they use a glorious vegetable to stand in for meat rather than a processed meat substitute. It is delicious and comes atop a bowl of perfect hummus. Yum. After that, we had what was probably my favorite dish, the ajoblanco, a compilation of seasonal vegetables (most memorably baby cauliflower) impeccably seasoned and served with a garlicky (but not too garlicky) cream. Then we had the squash sage gnocchi which was great; a little more decadent than the other dishes and not necessarily more delicious (although it was delicious!) For dessert, we had a slice of the chocolate cake that was from the Love Bakery, which is a tiny and AWESOME artisanal vegan bakery that makes everything free of refined sugar and oil. This slice of cake blew our minds and was worth the high price. Lastly, the atmosphere was great - cute, modern, cozy - making it ideal for a date spot or a solo meal at the bar. And the service was warm and helpful. Can't wait to go back to try new seasonal things and repeat some of our favorites!

Cafe Petisco was one of the restaurants whose closing in the past decade I truly grieved. It was just a perfect spot on one of my favorite corners of the Lower East Side, serving amazing malawach and cold brews in a well-lit space. When I heard the owners had finally opened a new location, I was elated. The new space is beautifully set up in a space that feels like a railroad flat, with bright lighting that doesn't feel too harsh. I didn't drink on this occasion, but the bar seats seemed especially inviting. The best bite was the vegan shawarma, which I understand is made from celeriac - it's perfectly smoky and textured, pairing well with the hummus, zhug, and oblong bread provided alongside. The spanakopita was also a standout, served with the Yemenite tomato chutney that I normally associate with jachnun.

Carrots, tomatoes, falafel - yum! The meal was great as was the service. We liked the trifle but did not like the French toast cake.

White chocolate cake thing with berry compote

It is vegan, I think. My kids would veto this place. I loved it. Lots of thot, love, and skill behind their creations. The Shawarma dish was constructed well and creatively with thin slices (peels?) of celery folded in an accordian fold and stacked up, skewered, grilled, and brushed with yummy marinade. Comes atop a bowl of creamy hummus with a red (tomato?) sauce and a green (jalapeno?) sauce. The smell, the texture, the taste... Sooooo gooood! Oh, and a freshly baked focaccia bun or is that a long pretzel? Whatever it was, it worked. Try it! Also had the pastry creation of the day. White chocolate cake thing with a good dollop of berry compote brushed on the plate. It was NOT over-the-top sweet. Perfect. It's one of those re-constructed cake things that have goop (berry compote and whipped something) sandwiched between two layers of cake pucks. Took me while to clean that up. I intended to finger lick the plate, but thought better of it. I shoulda. Was a walk-in on a wed night. Sat at the bar in the back. Tight venue, upscale-ish, welcoming. Friendly, efficient servers. I met three. They helped me pick the food. They get to eat this stuff all the time. No fair!

This vegan place has surpassed all other I've ever been to. The fact that their meat substitutes are made from veggies instead of soy is a huge deal to me. The bar seating makes for great conversation. i just wish I would have thought about getting the chefs. bar. that seemed from the distance like it was interesting. Everything I ate was amazing. The schwarma made out of celery root , cauliflower, mushrooms and the carrot ginger soup. i've heard that the focaccia is amazing but didn't want to eat gluten.

SERVICE - located in west village - indoor and outdoor seating available - indoor decor is European themed with large ornate wood planks as tables and plants lining the rim of the ceiling - service is friendly and helpful though limited which can increase the time it takes for you to get your food - ambiance good for a semi formal meal - food comes out as it is ready not in the order you might anticipate MENU - vegetable focused menu with Mediterranean inspired flavors - all vegan/vegetarian - pricey ($30 per entree) FOOD - eggplant (8/10):: roasted eggplant dip garnished with pistachios, pomegranate, and chili oil and served with a side of focaccia bread. This was very similar to a babaghanoush. It makes for a good shareable appetizer among 4-6 people. The bread did not feel like a focaccia but rather a cross between a pita and baguette. - carrot (8/10): roasted carrot ribbons on a creamy skordalia bed with lentils and miso dressing. This was a surprisingly good shareable dish or a lighter entree for one. It was presented beautifully with the carrot made to look like a flower and the edible flowers as garnish. The skordalia had a tangy cheesy taste with the texture of labneh. The lentils were a nice touch to make the dish more substantial and add an earthy element. - kebab (7/10): soy based kebabs drizzled with tahini and topped with chili paste and grilled vegetables. This was from the entree section. It was not bad but also not spectacular. I would have liked the kebabs to have more flavor on their own. The tahini sauce soaked into the kebab which made them soggy if they sat out for too long. - lasagna (6/10): spinach, eggplant, and zucchini rolled with a dollop of cream in a bed of tomato sauce. While i liked this as a concept, my main issue was that it was difficult to share. The lasagna pieces are baked so cutting into them destroyed the layering. If you are not planning to do family style then this might be a good option. - mushroom (5/10): mixed mushrooms with spinach pesto and artichoke. This is best eaten as a side with the shawarma. On its own, it has a very strong umami flavor from the mushrooms. - shawarma (9/10): grilled celeriac root skewered on a bed of hummus with a side of focaccia bread. This was the highlight of the meal. The celeriac was a very unique choice to highlight as a shawarma. It absorbed the spices and had a slight char from the roasting. The hummus at the bottom was creamy and provided a good texture contrast to the vegetable. Definitely recommend ordering this one. - trifle (3/10): layered berries, cream, and streusel with a cherry sauce. This was a letdown. I found the entire cup too sweet and slightly medicinal tasting. It was also hard to share as the cream ran down the sides making it sticky to touch. - halva silan (5/10): oat milk ice cream with dates and pecans topped with sesame floss. I had higher hopes for this dessert. It was just okay. I liked how the pistachio and halva added a nuttiness, but it was still very sweet. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes. However, i think the restaurant would benefit from a website with a sample menu for diners to expect what to order. I also would just stick to appetizers and entrees, skipping desserts.

Shosh is a small vegan restaurant/wine bar that's hard to miss if you're not looking out for it. I went in a Friday evening and it was easy to get seated without a reservation. Service was great, it was a younger woman who was serving us and she was really kind and patient as we figured out what to order. We started with the house made focaccia and I do have to say I was a bit confused because the bread didn't resemble focaccia at all. It a firmer loaf accompanied by olives, tzatziki and some sort of tomato puree. I think a different bread would make more sense on the menu. The falafel was perfection, bright and green in the inside while being nicely seasoned and crispy. The shawarma was also remarkable, it's made from celery which I thought was an odd choice for a meat alternative but it worked so well. The hummus it was served with was so lovely and this was probably my favorite dish. The risotto was nice, I wasn't the biggest fan of the cheese they use for it but my friend loved it. Overall, this is another gem for vegan Mediterranean food that doesn't rely on processed meat alternatives. They're rather new but I imagine they'll do well; especially as the menu continues changing/growing.

Wow, this place was an absolutely phenomenal vegan spot. It's always so exciting to be able to try dishes that I wouldn't be able to otherwise and the shawarma didn't disappoint. The bread that accompanied it was so fluffy and nicely buttered. The star of the meal was definitely the truffle tagliatelle. Definitely coming back here.

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!
