Short Round is one of those spots I'll happily return to again and again! The food reminds me so much of my mom's cooking - bold, spicy, comforting, and packed with layers of flavor and texture. Do yourself a favor and get the Szechuan pepper wings. They're absolutely incredible. The food comes out fairly quickly too. Be sure to order at the counter and find seating afterwards. The drinks are just as impressive, and the atmosphere is on point. Between the Thai movie posters, neon glow, and dimly lit vibe - the space feels full of personality. Criminally underrated kitchen. If you like very spicy wings they do very spicy wings. The crying tiger steak is a flank steak served with tangy sauce. Perfect. Even basics like pad ka-praw moo elevate pork and rice to an art form. Everything I've ordered has been a hit so far and I want to come back. You order spice on a scale of 1-5 and three sits right for me. You can taste the spice but it doesn't over power. The spice obsessed should get four. I can't imagine what five is. The spicy wings were too spicy for me, but the basil wings are perfect. Vibe is imperfect. Yumyumyum.. my friend and I shared the pork spring rolls and the fried rice and both were delicious. They can both be pretty hit or miss for me, but the spring rolls were packed full and came with housemade peanut sauce, and the fried rice was flavorful and came with lapchung (my favorite!). Definitely recommend these two items. Cons: not much info services, the first two time we had to hard wiped down our outdoor tables and served ourselves. My son had to come back to our car to get wet wipes since the table was layered in who knows what. The last time we were there I couldn't remember exactly but at least we didn't have to wipe down our own table. Restroom: its location gave me anxiety so I had to asked my husband to wait outside for me 2/3 times we were there. I ordered delivery from Short Round recently. It was one a few places open late when I was looking. I got the Crying Tiger steak ($13) and pad thai with shrimp ($18). It came fairly quickly, it was packaged well, and everything tasted good. The sauce with the steak was especially great. I wish the shrimp had tails removed, and medium spice seemed more mild. The pork and shrimps were fire, but it lacked variety in vegetables and the egg roll didn't taste like anything. The sauce was also too sour and not very fishy. The wings with fish sauce with spicy basil, 4/10, the sauce tasted good and the meat is good quality, but the wings were too soggy. Best Pho I have had in my life, and I lived in Little Saigon in Orange County for a long time. Crying Tiger also best I have had, ever. The one nice thing about Door Dash late at night on a weekday is that you can sometimes score free delivery from somewhere not close to home that you might not usually try. I was sick, it was 9:30 and I wanted Pho. Short Round is a bar in Hawthorne (my original Portand hood) that is open late and serves Asian food. Hawthorne has better late night options than my west side neighborhood, just saying. Yay. I got Pho with chicken, my kid chose Pad Pra Kao ( rice, ground pork, fried egg) and we got grilled pork rolls which came with peanut sauce to share. It was all really delicious, it showed up fairly quickly, and our favorite parts were the grilled pork rolls and peanut sauce. We could have easily eaten more of them and would get our own next time. The place was decently crowded and there were many other customers who had come to try the $8 wings. I am not a huge fan of dry rub wings and was a little skeptical while going in. The wings were the best dry-rub wings I have ever had. The Asian spice mix was the right mix of spicy and tangy. The wings were perfectly crisp and of optimal size. After one plate of 6 wings I was quite full, but it definitely left me wanting for more. The place was buzzing with all sorts of people (Portland wing week definitely had a role to play in it). The table next to me was occupied by a bunch of Instagram foodies/reviewers and they seemed to also enjoy the wings. Overall, loved the vibe of the place. I just felt like nothing stood out in eat dish, the pho tasted a little bland. The filet mignon is basically just flank steak with a fancier name. The salt & pepper squid was very hard but had a great salty flavor, more unique than other salt & pepper squid from other establishments. We got there pretty close to opening so it wasn't busy and we were able to order and grab a table right away. We started with the drinks, the crispy rolls, and the fish sauce wings. Both were DELICIOUS and came out piping hot. We love fish sauce wings and these really hit the spot. The flavor was perfect and they were super crispy! From there we ordered a pork banh mi and the Botta's favorite with pork. Both were flavorful and absolutely perfect. Also, they have a cocktail called "Temple of The Sun" - get it.
