Booked a place to stay last minute. Generally I don't care for Bed n Breakfast Inns but choices were limited. This place was awesome!!! Right at the water, old but everything was spotless! Didn't have that old crinkly smell. Every where you looked there was a timeless treasures. The owners were very kind and accommodating,. Bedding soft and cozy. Breakfast had many delicious options. We stayed for one night at the Shore Light Inn on the Benicia waterfront. We were there mid week and for that one night were the only guests. Yoshi showed us around when we arrived and give us a tour of the various rooms. The rooms feature wonderful Victorian pieces, my wife was in seventh heaven admiring everything! We asked if we could change rooms as the Pink Palace had better views, and Yoshi easily accommodated us - nice! A private parking lot is in the back; you don't have to park on the street. Our room was on the top floor and looked out over the Carquinez Strait. During our stay we loved watching the trains on the opposite shore, the changing tides, Egrets, Bay fog and the distant Carquinez Bridge. It was wonderful enjoying waterfront views without having to drive to the coast. The room featured three armchairs, table and chairs, nightstands with lamps, TV and mini fridge. Three complimentary water bottles were provided. Lovely art prints adorned the walls. The rooms have no air conditioning but they have portable units they can bring in on request. There was a good wind (as is often the case in Benicia) and that was sufficient on this day. The breakfast was amazing: hard boiled eggs (and an offer to make scrambled if we wanted), muffins, Bacon, cereal, rolls/pastries, bagels, cheeses, ham, milk, OJ and mango juice as options. Benicia is a quaint explore, lots of artisan shops. Look in on the One House Bakery for some delish sweets! Just a great stay, wish we could have extended. Look forward to a return visit! read more

After having missed our first reservation in August, we finally made our way here in September to celebrate our anniversary. There was some misunderstanding in the beginning where I was charged for a no-show, and I explained that I still wanted to visit and that my son was rushed to the ER and I really felt bad for not making it. One of the owners (Rebecca?) was so kind enough and gracious to rebook us and offered a discount for miscommunication. I was so grateful! When we entered, I believe the other owner (Christina?) greeted us and mentioned losing out on money when we missed our first visit. A little off-putting, but I shook it off as I wanted to enjoy my visit. After that, things went really well and the host was extremely sweet and accommodating. There is a complimentary drink upon arrival, which we enjoyed on the deck. We went to the 3rd floor to our room, Captain's Quarter. The room was so clean, beautiful and perfect! This was our first time at a B&B and we enjoyed every minute of it. The morning breakfast was so nice and we met another couple who were regulars. We only spent one night there, but wished we would've booked two as we didn't want to leave. Benecia is such a beautiful little city with so much to do. It's a plus that everything is walking distance so we explored downtown. Thank you, Shorelight, for making our stay so memorable and enjoyable. This is definitely a must return! The bar across the street was loud and boisterous, but when you closed the door you could not hear a thing. The breakfast was great and fun getting to know new people staying there. We stayed 2 nights in the sunset room. I picked this place because it was right by the water and the ocean views did not disappoint! I knew writing this I wanted to be 100% honest and not sugar coat anything. So I want to first say the owners were very nice. The girl who made breakfast for us was such a sweetheart. I really liked the people. They did exactly what I asked putting champagne and a note in our room before arrival at no extra charge. My boyfriend was very happy and excited I did that. So they are very accommodating. I said Im not good with heat they put a portable ac in our room which blew cold air and helped a lot since it was in the 90s. The outside is very nice looking the deck to sit is nice as well great views. We wanted to turn on the fire pit and tried but couldn't get it to work. I wish it was on so we could sit there at night. Inside was very cute and clean. Our room was very open and I really liked it. I liked the bathroom being a big size and open. I liked the antique feel to the room even the miss matching items. This is where things go down. 2 big things that I am not happy with is one the jacuzzi online says xl making it seem big. 2 people can not fit in it. You have to be 2 very small people to fit comfortably. I couldn't even put my legs out fully im only 5'5. It was a big disappointment. I liked it but it was our anniversary and it was very uncomfortable trying to fit in there. I looked at the other rooms upstairs and 1 had even a smaller one and the other one was probably same size. There was one that was bigger and if i go back Definitely has to be that room. I think it was the benicia bay suite. But ours was small. Second thing which is the biggest issue I had. The one thing that is making me confused on my rating because I like the place and people but I dont know if I'd go back for this reason. That is the bed. It's not just our room as I sat on 3 other beds upstairs because the doors were open to check it out. They all were horrible. I don't know about downstairs. When I say horrible I mean so hard so much noise. Every movement was loud I got woken up at 630 because of the bed. It hurt my back. It felt like a mattress and box spring from 30 years ago. Honestly I don't know how people are not complaining more. I honestly want to go back but unless they get new beds no way. It was really terrible even my boyfriend said it was and he never complains. Like I said I love the views, the people, the cute vibe inside and I'd probably give it 5 stars but with the bed so bad i have to give it a 3 and i feel thats still being generous. If the bed was good I'd give it 5 probably minus the jacuzzi size. I really feel the bed makes it even a 2 star. When you walk all day and explore you want to rest and sleep nice but when the bed is terrible it really takes away from the experience. I really hope the owners take this and change out the beds because it would be 5 star. I really enjoyed my time there and I hate to lower my stars but I have to be upfront about this issue. read more

I have wanted to stay at the Shorelight Inn ever since I walked by about three years ago. I was finally able to make it happen this last weekend. It was a last minute trip and I had the choice of two rooms according to their website. I chose the Blue Lagoon Room because of the hardwood floors. I have to say, the room was absolutely amazing! Every detail was perfect, including how clean. The place was immaculate. The fridge had complimentary water. The fridge in the registration area also had several complimentary beverages. Though my overall experience was lovely, there were a few incidents that bothered me. When I first arrived Christina greeted me very joyfully. After check-in she offered me a complimentary drink. I chose wine and after putting my suitcase in my room, I enjoyed myself on the deck. Christina planned on joining me, but then I heard her chatting with someone and then shifted her plans. Shortly after a man joined me on the deck, and introduced himself as Christina's longtime love. He was pretty chatty so I conversed with him briefly. He made a comment that I thought was inappropriate, so I finished my wine and headed to my room. I put on my mask and tried to walk passed him at a safe distance as he was not wearing one. He got up and followed me in. I browsed around the registration area looking at magazines, and he just stood behind me. I felt uncomfortable so I headed to my room. He literally followed me and when I opened the door he commented on how he loved the room as he was a sailor. I said okay, walked in and closed the door. I waited a few more minutes and then opened my door to make sure he was gone. Fortunately he was, but I still felt uncomfortable so I bolted the door. Excited about the jacuzzi tub, I turned on the bath water and thought I'd just relax. I turned on the jets and when I got in, the water felt luke warm. After a couple minutes it was so cold I got out. I decided to just take a shower but the water was cold, even after letting it run for a few minutes. I called Christina to let her know and she apologized. I put on my pjs, turned up the heater and went to bed. Immediately someone sent me a text saying they had hot water downstairs and wanted to check my room. I told them I was in bed and didn't want to be bothered. I was angry and contemplated leaving in the morning. I continued to get up and check the water, it wasn't hot until 2am. I woke up and decided to stay. Went to check out the breakfast and thought it was lovely. Since the guy from the prior night was in there I decided to leave and eat elsewhere. I enjoyed my time walking around Benicia, it is my favorite Bay Area city. I chatted with shop owners and came back in a happy mood. I decided to talk with Christina about her friend. This conversation is what boosted them from a 1 star to a 4. Christina listened to me, she heard what I told her, and validated how uncomfortable it must've been. She said that he's a friendly, chatty guy. I told her it was still inappropriate for him to follow me to my room. She heard me. Christina's customer service was impeccable. She told me she was planning on joining me outside, but had to run to the grocery store. That's why she was gone. I didn't like that I was alone with her friend the prior night, but I decided finish my stay anyway. The rest of my stay was excellent. After another glass of wine and watching the sunset on the deck, I decided to enjoy the jacuzzi. The water was perfectly hot. It was incredible. I decided to check the water after, and it was cold for a while. Christina explained that if two people try to run the water in the jacuzzi around the same time, one will use all the hot water up. It's an older building so I do get that, but the staff need to warn people cause a cold bath is miserable. At least it is to me. I had a pretty peaceful night. I could hear the person upstairs from me walking around, but that didn't bother me. Other than that the room was extremely quiet. Despite the two incidents, and the fact that they use scented products in the laundry, I had a great experience. Christina is just lovely. The place is just gorgeous, very well maintained. I love the architecture and the different themed rooms. The breakfast was pretty good, the fresh fruit was the best. The complimentary drinks added a classy element that I believe a lot of different hotels/inns could benefit, but I do get that a Bed & Breakfast is a different experience. The views are incredible, though my room didn't have one, I could still enjoy the deck. Should I stay here again, I'll come with a partner and choose a room with a view and deck. I was looking for another hotel on the water, and this one popped up on google out of the blue. I checked the reviews, and photo images and thought this place was perfect. Great location, tons of restaurants and walkable shops. Check in was easy, I think her name was Christina. She was welcoming and even offered us a check in cocktail. We stayed in the Benicia Bay suite with a beautiful water front view. It had a sitting patio that you could sit on and eat breakfast, or just enjoy the sunset view with the Carquinez bay breeze. The room was huge with a separate livingroom area. However, I didn't sleep well because the bed was so hard. My hips, and back was so sore the next morning. My husband tossed and turned so much, that he gave up and slept on the couch. Breakfast was served between 8-10a. I went downstairs for breakfast, and the owner and his good friend from the community were enjoying a cup of coffee. Just as I walked in, another of his friends from the community came. I listened to all the stories they have collected for being in the community for over 40yrs. The owner was a impressive guy. He shared stories about his love of sailing, a few of his big beautiful houses, and how he purchased the building and had it moved to its current location. read more

Located at the end of the street where a public shoreline path begins is a large three story wood and stone Inn. I was attending a wedding as one of two best men for my best friend and his uncle checked me in so I can't speak to that process. I was impressed at the spaciousness of the sitting room with its Nespresso coffee maker and to go cups with lids as well as the armoire with full length mirror to make sure I had dressed correctly for a day of taking pictures. The bedroom starts with an air conditioner before you get to the flatscreen tv over the dresser and then opens out to a large queen sized bed which was a bit less give than I'm used to but comfortable. The I noticed the jacuzzi just three feet from the bed in a nook. That was a nice way to relax and get warm and toasty before slipping under the sheets to sleep. There were a few strange tiny brown flakes that was in the water but I'm not sure where they came from. Possibly from a wooden tank to hold all the hot water that seemed to be available but I forgot to ask about it during the weekend focused on the wedding. Finally we get to a good sized restroom with shower and sink which is around the corner from the bedroom so there's no door. The shower has the kind of shower head that simulates rain spread out but I felt they could have been a little more convenient with a small shelf to hold the toiletries that are presented so well by the sink. I noticed later on in the week a line of ants crawling along the shower stall and looking for dry land since it was starting to rain pretty consistently. The continental breakfast with fresh fruits, pastries , cold cuts, yogurt, bagel, coffee and even a quick scrambled egg by christine? Along with some of the inside scoop by the friendly people that hung out downstairs made for an enjoyable morning since I was rooming by myself and everyone else slept in. I was glad I took the opportunity to take a walk along the shoreline the first morning since it was pouring rain the day I was checking out. On the walk down to the pier and back, it was nice to exchange greetings with almost everyone out for a walk although the large number of fishermen were a little too focused on their task. Seemed like every place except for two bars were open after 10pm since there are probably still not as many tourists around due to Covid. read more

We stayed 2 nights in the Blue Lagoon room. It was very comfy and well decorated with a sea faring theme and we liked that it was on the first floor. The pipes on the bathroom sink were a little loud but the water was plenty hot, so it balanced out. Location of the Inn was near the water and scenic. The Inn keepers were very pleasant and accomodating. Since my wife is diabetic, Sophia cooked eggs, bacon and sausage, which I dont think they normally do. read more

The perfect staycation we were looking for to relax and recharge. I recommend calling the Inn before your arrival and calling them when you arrive so you're not waiting to get in I did that and we didn't wait long at all. I loved the architecture of the building it has so much history that Wendy shared with us. I absolutely loved the ocean view of the Inn I took a lot of photos! We stayed here on 12.21.23 in the Benicia Bay Suite which had the balcony ocean view it was nice and clean. I really liked the sitting area and we liked how it had a mini fridge to keep our drinks cold. Christine and Wendy were both very kind, friendly and accommodating which made our stay all the more delightful and they were easy to communicate with during our stay. The Inn was very close to all the restaurants and shops in the area everything was walking distance to the Inn, other than the live band across the street which they did minimize the noise level at a reasonable time it was such a beautiful property! I loved taking pictures of the balcony and patio area! My favorite part of the room would have to be the spacious tub! Breakfast is served 7:30am-9:30am Mon- Friday which included coffee, bagels, fruits, hard boiled eggs, pastries and scramble eggs upon request it was delicious! We have seen this spot numerous times when we've visited downtown Benicia. Always admired the balcony with the amazing view of the Bay. So, for our 18th anniversary we decided to spend the weekend in the Pink Palace Room (with the amazing views off the balcony). Everything was perfect. The woman who checked us in was super sweet. We were offered drinks (both alcohol and non) and snacks upon arrival. We met the owner at breakfast and he was friendly and personable. Our room was clean and our bed was comfy. The breakfast was just enough with fresh fruit, bagels, oatmeal, yogurt, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, etc. You can't beat the location - we didn't use our car once all weekend. Plenty of places to eat, lots of shops and massage spots (check out my other reviews for details on those). We love the Shorelight Inn and look forward to going back. read more

I was planning for my husband's birthday and came across this place in Benicia which is very close to Napa Valley and all the beautiful vineyards. This place turned out to be more than what I expected. It's a very pretty bed& breakfast inn and the view is simply amazing! The host also helped me in planning a nice little surprise for my husband's birthday. If you haven't already checked this place, go and book it right away, I guarantee you, you will be pleasantly surprised! Do not book here. They are deeply disorganized and unprofessional, which is to say nothing of the overtly racist comment one staff member made during our stay here. We booked a multi-room reservation for our wedding weekend 10 months in advance. The staff at the Shorelight lost or mistook details of our reservation on three separate occasions, including at one point double-booking the whole weekend, leaving us scrambling months before our wedding. The only reason we ended up staying there at all was due to the help of one staff member, Rebecca, who was so diligent and kind to us, while the owners and managers we interacted with were rude and disorganized. Several staff at the Shorelight were aggressive about reminding us of their "quiet hours" policy, which would be fine except the staff woke some of our friends up by yelling outside their room at 7 in the morning. A manager later elaborated on their sensitivity to noise by telling one of our friends they don't like booking "black weddings." Spend your time and your money literally anywhere else. read more

Every year we take our mom on a road trip. As we have family in Benicia, we make that our first stop. We usually stay further inland and at a generic hotel which suits our purposes but not worth yelping. Due to Covid we were worried about lodging. My mom discovered this gem, Shorelight Inn. Except for one other couple, we were the only ones there. Our keys were in a box with a code as promised. Our rooms were on the 3rd floor. They are furnished nicely with antiques and other decorations. The beds were comfortable. We slept well. We had a lovely balcony where we sat and chatted while enjoying a beverage. The bathroom in one of the rooms was amazing! Nice, big shower, sink area etc. The Main Street with shopping, restaurants, and bars is within walking distance. Breakfast was great. We served ourselves. Lots of protein! Super yummy! It was like being at home, so homey!! Loved it! Totally recommend! read more

Omg this lady was absolutely rude! I called to book two nights. I am getting married in Benicia and wanted to be close to my venue I was going to have me and a friend stay with me. Obviously, my bridesmaids and I would be getting ready taking pictures at the hotel. In total I would of paid 500 dollars which I was very willing, before I booked I asked the lady who answered if this would be ok to get ready in the room and I clarified that there would be only two people staying. She screamed at me told me no! This is not ok, you can not have people come get ready here, I said this is horrible customer service and she said I don't care! I mean she was screaming at me. Unbelievable I was in shock!! So no this place is not worth any stars ! read more

We had a lovely stay at the Shorelight Inn and would love to return soon. We stayed in the Captains Quarters which was a nice sailor themed room with vintage decor, and a jetted soaking tub which was great in the evening. The location and covered deck were some of the best features of our stay. We enjoyed the evening and morning on the deck that looks out to the water, while sipping a warm beverage and a having nice chat with each other. There's a walking path right outside the Inn and within walking distance we visited the small shops, book store, art walk, had some meals at local restaurants and dessert at the ice cream shop. We also got a massage- a 3min walk away. One tip- it was bright in our room with the sunrise so I would suggest bringing sleeping mask if you're planning to sleep in. read more

I had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing stay at the Shorelight Inn! This was my first stay at a bed & breakfast and I loved it! The staff here are wonderful! I mainly interacted with Ann and the owner of the inn, who were both present and socializing during breakfast. They are both very friendly and welcoming to their guests. We had great conversations around the breakfast table. I also had the chance to meet other nice people staying at the inn. I really enjoyed how everyone was genuinely friendly with each other. It made my stay here that much better. They serve a continental breakfast from 7:30am to 9:30am on Mondays through Fridays and 8am-10am on Saturdays and Sundays. They have a great selection of fruits, pastries, bagels, yogurt, and so forth. On my last day there, Ann made these delicious mini quiches for breakfast, which I ended up eating at least 4 of them. The room itself was simply divine. I stayed in the Captain's Quarters room, which exceeded my expectations. The room was tidy and well kept. I really enjoyed the quaint décor and relaxing feel of the room. The room even had an oversized Jacuzzi bathtub, which was heavily utilized in my case. The rooms do not have air conditioning; however, it shouldn't be a problem since the inn is right by the waterfront. Just open the windows if your room feels warm. The inn itself is in walking distance of the marina and many restaurants & local businesses. With that being said, parking during the weekend (particularly during the evening) can be an absolute disaster. So just be prepared to hunt for parking, walk a long distance from where you parked, or opt out of using your car altogether. Also, the inn is located next to a restaurant/bar that has loud live music in the evenings (at least during the weekends). I thought it would be a problem, however, they stopped around 8pm. Despite the parking issue, my stay at the Shorelight Inn was absolutely fabulous! I'm very pleased with the warm and friendly service I received here. I look forward to staying here again and I highly recommend staying at this inn if you're looking to stay in Benicia (especially if you want a relaxing "getaway"). read more

Must not want business!. On Sunday afternoon driving towards Benicia, I needed a place to land. I went to their website and found they had several rooms available for the night. I started to book online at around 3pm, then thought I would give them a call instead. The woman who answered sounded rushed and unfriendly. I asked if they indeed had rooms available. She paused, then said, "Oh actually we don't have any rooms available." I started to ask about their website, and she hung up on me. Thinking that she could not have possibly been the actual front desk person for an inn with great ratings, I completed my online reservation, then waited an hour and didn't hear back. I called back twice and left a message, but no one answered even though the answering machine message said that they are open on Sundays until 6 p.m. I never heard from this Inn again, even the next day. Obviously their website reservations don't mean anything and they are not wanting busineas. Very disappointing. read more

The Inn's facilities would have recieved 4 stars but given the lackluster customer service I received I'm giving only 2. My experience: I booked my room on the Inn's website. When I arrived I was given a key to a room different from the one I had booked. I brought this to the attention of the manager, who figured out that the room I'd booked had been double booked. There were no other rooms available, so I was given the choice between staying in the room I had not chosen, or moving to their other hotel. What surprised me was that I was never given an apology or shown even a hint of empathy over the double booking. The manager merely offered a refund of the $20 price difference between the room I booked and what they were giving me. That's it. I even asked "is that the best [the Inn] can do?", but no. That was it. I felt seriously snubbed, and asked for at least a round of complimentary drinks from the bar the manager was standing in/nearby. She explained that they don't serve drinks, and the massive amount of liquor bottles at the bar were only for the Inn's owner and his friends....Seriously? At this point the manager looked around, spied a bottle of sparking wine and handed it to me. A small consolation, but one I was grateful for after being shown so much apathy. In the end, I wasn't looking for a massive refund, but a bit more "give a damn" would have gone a LONG way. Also, it's irritating that they offer a 3 hour check in window, but then demand to know exactly when you will arrive so they can have someone one site. Perhaps they should consider paying someone who can be there and show their customers more care. read more

A lovely, quaint B&B, centrally located within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The downside: My boyfriend and I stayed in the Captain's Quarters. I have stayed at many B&Bs, but have never come across a room without a bathroom door! It looks as if the door was removed to install the new Jacuzzi, but was never replaced. This is something that should have been disclosed when we made the reservation. At the very least, put up a privacy curtain. . . Also, we were instructed that "quiet time" was from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM and I was not to turn on the Jacuzzi jets between those hours. On the plus side, they put out a nice spread for breakfast in the dining room. read more

Absolute worst do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. For one you can only check in feom 3 to 6 unless prior arrangements are made. So we called 30 mins prior to getting to our room and were told about the special check in. Yes we oversaw those instructions but why wouldn't you call us. My husband made several calls no one ever answered. I called and left messages which was the only reason I probably received call back and was told to be there at 7:30 At which point we were there before that waiting for an hour to which I call her to be told check in is at second floor. How the hell am i to magically know this information. She then tells me she can be there in 5 mins. Um no thanks as I have wasted my time waiting for you and no I'm not read more

This place is a total gem. I came down from San Jose for a concert and found this B&B online. It completely blew me away, beautiful views of the Bay and the staff was absolutely fantastic. Our room was clean the esthetic was of the room was so fun and brought me back in time. Did I mention we had a balcony viewing the Bay and a jet tub!! I would absolutely recommend this B&B for a little get away. I will be coming back. read more

I love this place! Perfect location near water, running/walking trail, next to but not in downtown, can walk to pier. The rooms and ambiance are just right and the hosts are welcoming. Decor is vintage but not "old" looking. Architecture of home and amenities are modern. Beds comfy. Tips: It gets windy in Benicia so bring a wrap or sweater and a hair tie (for ladies) and a light jacket for men. Bring comfy shoes for walking around downtown. In terms of location and overall cleanliness, Shorelight Inn gets 5 stars. I can admit that the view from our Suite was absolutely gorgeous, providing amazing sunset views from the balcony. We picked this location because we fell in love with the vintage aesthetic and thought it would fit perfectly with our wedding theme. Unfortunately our overall experience with the staff on our wedding day is what merits a 1 star review. We booked this suite in the summer of 2021, letting the Inn know we were in search of a Honeymoon Suite for our Fall 2021 wedding. They seemed very accommodating at the time, excited to have another wedding stay at their location. We advised via phone that the Bride (myself) would also be using the Suite to get ready with her Bridal Party the day of the wedding. There were no objections to this when the reservation was made. The day of the wedding, my maid of honor was helping guide my bridal party, photographer and videographer to the suite. This went on without incident all morning and really didn't have everyone arrive until about after 9am, close to 10am. Not once did we crash into other guests. But apparently the photographer was talked to by the staff in a way that made them feel uncomfortable, so they decided to just stay in the room to avoid upsetting them further. That made me very upset because 1) we had booked the room MONTHS in advance with the understanding we would be capturing the day at the suite 2) the staff did not come to talk to ME directly. Whatever - the morning continued and we were out of the Inn by 130pm to continue with my wedding day. My husband and I returned at 11pm to the Inn after picking up some fast food after our wedding. We were dropped off and since my husband stayed elsewhere the night before, he still needed to bring up not only our dinner, but also his luggage and a handful of things we received at the reception. Of course, I was in my full wedding gown so my husband decided it would be best for him to help me get upstairs to the suite so I can sit while he brought up our things. We were not drunk, we were quiet upon entering. My husband had to make maybe 2 or 3 trips downstairs since I could not help him. He was as quiet as possible as to not cause a disturbance. Once he shut the door behind him, we chatted briefly and quietly (not even a minute or 2) as we were still so elated from JUST getting married. We got a knock on the door and a staff member told us very rudely to please keep it down, that it was VERY late and the guests were sleeping. My husband apologized, making note that we LITERALLY had just returned from our WEDDING reception and we were just trying to get settled in. That interaction left such a poor impression for us. We stayed in the suite the rest of the weekend and did not bother interacting with the staff after that. Literally all weekend, it felt like a ghost town. We heard no other guests. Even the few times we exited the room for a walk, we didn't crash into anyone - not even staff. The experience made me so sad that even months after the wedding, it was the one thing about my wedding day that was the downside to everything. What sucks even more is that I very much wanted to share the beautiful pictures and video taken of this place in case others wanted to use this as their Wedding Suite - but I do not recommend anyone to use this Inn. We did not feel welcomed and we will not be returning to this establishment. read more

The management was very rude to us and not accommodating at all! My grandmother tired to buy her son and his wife a 1 night stay for their wedding anniversary, as they stayed here 4 years ago on their honeymoon night. Apparently they had an ownership change since then. My grandmother made it clear over the phone that she would not be staying in the room and it was for her son and daughter in law when she gave them her credit card for the deposit to book the room. When they went to check in they would not allow them to check in without a credit card. My Uncle and his wife (the people trying to stay there) are autistic and they do not have credit cards. So we tried to give them our credit cards on their behalf. We said that we would sign whatever they would like in order to show that we would be responsible for any incidentals and there were 3 of us willing to put down our credit cards on behalf of them and they would not accept them. They're argument was if you are not staying in the room then your credit card will not pay for incidentals. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! Apparently they had an issue in the past where someone stayed there and caused damage, and the credit card company refused to pay them because the owner of the credit card did not occupy the room. It's sounds like they need a better lawyer to defend them and who could draw up a proper agreement stating if you are not staying in the room you are still responsible for paying for the room by signing this document. We have stayed at several hotels that have accepted credit cards from people who are not staying in the room. It was ridiculous how unreasonable and unaccommodating they were for our unique situation. Then they made us give them a cash deposit of $500 in order for them to stay in the room. If we refused to give them the cash, then they were still going to charge my grandmother for the room and not allow them to stay! Also they wouldn't give us the money back until Monday, when they checked out on Saturday! That to me is absolutely ridiculous. If you stay here make sure you have a credit card! And don't expect them to be understanding to people with handicaps. read more

After an unfortunate incident at another Bed and Breakfast in Benicia, my travel party and I were forced to find another place to stay short notice. We were referred to the Shorelight Inn and we were not disappointed! The owner Christina made my friends and I feel right at home, and after a long day of driving and adventure, it felt great to sink into the Jacuzzi bath. The rooms are all artfully arranged, each it's own unique work of art. It is just a block away from the LOVELY downtown area where you can find interesting taverns and delightful restaurants. I wouldn't dare stay anywhere else in Benicia. Our party occupied both the Benicia Bay Suite and the Pink Palace Suite during our stay. read more

My fiancé and I are driving from Los Angeles to Seattle, stopping at cool places in between. After a long day of driving, we staggered into Benicia and up to our quarters, at which point, my fiancé almost lost his mind over the red velvet armchairs and the two-person whirlpool tub. And this place has more than creature comforts. I've stayed at plenty of places that claim to have the most comfortable this or that or the best breakfast or whatever...but what this place has (that seems exceedingly rare in today's world) is excellent customer service! Peg, the hotel manager, from Day One, has kept up to date with our schedule, making sure that we knew how to retrieve our keys, even if we were late, where the continental breakfast was, leaving lights on for us, etc. It really does make a difference for two weary travelers, and I wish I could stay here forever. Highly recommended, quiet, beautiful, accommodating. It's a really wonderful place. read more

I can not stress how perfect our trip to the Shorelight Inn was! My fiancé and I are planning a wedding, while working and going to school. So over winter break, we made sure we got three days off of work and started looking for a place to have a mini vacation. I googled two person whirlpool bath tubs in the Bay Area (we are bath people!) and found the Shorelight Inn. A few of the rooms have large bath tubs so I called to ask which one was the biggest and the best, Christina the owner, answered and told me that the Benicia Bay suite was what I was looking for. We booked it right away and a few days later we were in Benicia! Christina greeted us at the door when we arrived, and told us everything we needed to know; where breakfast would be, asked us what time we liked to eat breakfast, told us where to find the complimentary sodas and beer! And then she showed us to our room, it was breathtaking, you walk into a beautiful entry way with two red velvet covered arm chairs and a wet bar, then a tiny hallway with a desk that went into the bedroom. The bed was nice we have a California king at home so the queen bed was smaller than we are used to, but still great and the sheets, comforter and pillows were all of amazing quality I was very impressed. There is a great flat screen tv mounted to the wall by the huge dresser in the room and there was also a balcony in our room that over looked the bay with great views. But the best thing about this room, was the bathtub, it's a huge two person whirlpool tub. I planned ahead and brought bath salts, bubbles and candles but was pleasantly surprised when I saw that there were already bath salts and a candle by the tub! Now my fiancé is not a small man, so being able to take a bath with him was seriously the highlight of our trip. It was the most romantic two days we have ever spent together. The room was amazing and the Inn is so cute and cozy, but the owner Christina is one of the main reasons why we will be going back very soon. She was beyond sweet and helpful she even made us waffles each morning we were there and then went back upstairs so we could enjoy breakfast together. We also forgot a heating blanket that we brought with us and she called us about five minutes after we checked out to let us know and we were able to turn around and go get it :) If you book the Shorelight Inn the next time you are in Benicia or just looking for a getaway, you will not regret it! We are already planning our next trip back and wishing we hadn't already booked our honeymoon, because we would defiantly rather go back to the Shorelight Inn! read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Shorelight Inn for our 3 year anniversary. After reading the wonderful reviews I decided to give this B&B a shot! This place surely lives up to everyone's comments. Pros: -Welcoming atmosphere -Conveniently located near a paved trail right along the water -Complimentary beverages in the lobby (2nd floor) -Our room, the Sunset Suite, was very clean (including towels and bedding) and cozy -Mini fridge and microwave included in the room -The in room jacuzzi was a nice, relaxing touch! -Did not experience any noise/disturbances from other folks staying in rooms nearby -Peg's warm hospitality and her waffles..a must!! Cons: -Wasn't too fond of the antique smell upon taking the stairs, but after some time I suppose you'll get used to it -Assumed we would have a view facing the sunset..hence the name of the room we stayed in lol Overall, we absolutely enjoyed our stay the Shorelight Inn.. Just wanted to post about the awesome customer service. Unfortunately I won't be able to stay at the shore light inn for my cousins wedding (work in NYC and just couldn't make it happen) and I was so looking forward to seeing the beautiful rooms at this spot and the view of the water, but I have been stressed canceling all my plans for my trip to California, and Peg at the shoreline was so accommodating. I simply left a hurried voicemail about needing to cancel, she called me back and left a sweet message about how I didn't even need to call back and she would take care of it. Place has a great location we stayed in this in the pink room which was cute but their was no air conditioner trying to get ready during hot weather has horrible the sheets looked old and so did the curtains I get the vintage Victorian look but I def think they can do atleast put newer sheets that aren't extremely worn while still maintaining the look Also their was an iron board but no iron in our room we tried calling front desk multiple times no one answered and their was no one in front desk for the rest of the night the view from room was beautiful but everything else was mediocre . read more
