Yes, that's a 42" plasma in a Super 8.
Eric V.

I've stayed in plenty of Super 8's in my travels and this one has to rank as one of the best. The room had been recently remodeled and even had a 42" plasma. I like that there's no carpet, which can get really gross in motels and always has some sort of mystery stain no matter how often it's cleaned. Check in was fast and friendly and the room was nice and quiet, even on a Saturday night.

It's quaint and unassuming, but always very clean, inexpensive, and close to everything you need. The staff is always kind and accommodating and the check in and out process is quick and easy. They also have little chairs outside the rooms which I'm a sucker for. Highly recommend!

When we first arrived at the Muir Lodge Motel, we were greeted by a young lady at the front desk, followed by what looked to be her mother and father. They didn't say hello they just walked through what I assumed was their lobby. Whitch was fair because they had some kiddios with them. (Note:so I'm sure this motel is family owned and operated). The girl in the front was friendly but unfortunately informed me that we weren't allowed to use a verchual card for "TAP PAY" ,and if we didn't have a physical card they would have to charge me 100$ extra and I wouldn't be giving it back for the deposit. I thought that was expensive and unfair!! Luckly i had one, but what if i was down on my luck and lost my card that day, what then? If you think about it most people do have cards now and days and if you come upon someone who doesn't the majority of the time it's due to being stolen or lost. so that person not only has to pay for all new cards but now there hotel is charging them extra 100$ without giving it back as usual... To me, this just shows how much they care for the customer. So the first room we were given smelled like someone smoked 3 packs of cigarettes in the room before she gave it to us, which I did not appreciate because she didn't even ask us if we wanted a smoking or non smoking Room!!... We then requested another room. This room was just as bad!!! The smell was DISCUSTING!! I filled the tub with water to stop the RAW SEWAGE SMELL from coming out of the TUB!!! Unfortunately, when it was full, it may have looked like clean water, but it smelled RAW SEWAGE AND IT MADE US SICK!! There was also tagging in the bathroom!! I COULD TELL THEY DID NOT CAER IF IT WAS CLEAN OR NOT DUD TO THE SMELL OF URINE COMING FROM THE CORNER OF THE ROOM, RIGHT NEXT TO WHERE YOU LAY YOUR HEAD DOWN TO SLEEP NEXT TO THE BED!! NOT AT THE FOOT OF THE BED NEXT TO YOUR HEAD!!!! ALSO THE FACT THAT THERE WAS 2 PIECES OF TISSUE IN THE TISSUE BOX NO TOLIT PAPER AND THERE WAS A NOTE PAD 1 PIECES OF PAPER!! IM NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING!! at that point, why even put the note pad in there? in the morning, I informed the young lady of everything that had gone on. She was apologetic, but not too much so, instead of taking responsibility for the lack of cleaning due to the maids or lack thereof, meaning the cleaners were the family, not actual maids.... She continued to say "I need to find out who stayed in that room last and call those customers", as if it was the customer's fault that their room was disgusting and wasn't even properly filled with toiletries. Thats on the customer. In my opinion its on the motel and Maids or the family they had acting as maids. Not the last customer that stayed there.... I found that comment to be somewhat offensive because im sure she told the next customers the same thing, That it was my fault that the room smelled like pee in the corner, and poo in the tub.... The one good thing is we didn't have to sleep with our heads next to the smell of piss because there was two beds.... 5 STAR FOR WINNING ONE OF THE MOST DISCUSTING PLACES IVE STAYED IN MY LIFE!!!!

Our server was doing her best on her own for the entire establishment and we respected her situation. The Gabby's Jolt was merely strong and seemed to be missing ingredients listed on the menu. We had ordered the stuffed mushrooms appetizer which was tasty, the filet mignon entree and halibut entree ( of which we told the server we'd like to have a glass of white wine to accompany it but had to wait until the entree was nearly cold to receive it). We ate two servings of bread an do bitter while we waited for the entrees. The filet was tender and seasoned well in addition to being cooked a bit over medium, had a large portion of spinach and mashed potatoes, and came with the same red wine reduction sauce as the mushrooms which we found a bit odd. The minutely seasoned halibut has to have been the tiniest piece of fish we've ever seen served and only had six small potato quarters and like 6-7 stalks of asparagus with it. Overall, we ate everything because of the small halibut entree, but will most likely not return. I suggest the owners have more than one server on a Friday night, For everyone's sake.

They also do ghost tours around this area too. But one of my friends really likes this place to get a drink. Nice and cozy, we planned on getting a drink then just decided to grab dinner here on a Saturday evening. We started with some cocktails, I just got a tequila soda and my friends got a mojito and jazzy cosmo. They also give you some bread and butter. I asked what the most popular salad is and they said it's the pear salad, so I got that with chicken and devoured it. My friends got the chicken Marsala which also sounded popular and the penne pasta. Theres plenty of street parking downtown when it's not too busy but it's also nice walking the streets here and the servers were very friendly!

Sitting at the bar, I couldn't help but imagine the hardworking railroad crews resting their weary heads here long ago, alongside the glamorous, lively parties that once filled the space. I gave it as many as four stars because everything was clean and I love the character, including the marginally-dilapidated atmosphere, the ancient "lift" (can't really call it an elevator). If you want a slick, polished experience, choose a different lodging. Maybe the "Inn at Benicia Bay" down the street; I had breakfast there one morning and it looked very posh. But if you want a piece of history, I am passionate about the Union Hotel. Things to note before you take it on: The management is notoriously hard to get in touch with before your stay. While you're here, there's someone at the desk during the day within limited hours. But don't expect any contact or action at night. Don't expect calls back. Their late-check-in process was a little nebulous in terms of explanation before the fact, but worked out really well. I came up with adult children and needed an extra bed, but never got any closure on my requests. Not to worry, there were a couple of rollaways in the corner of the hallway with the housekeeping materials so everything worked out well. We tried the jacuzzi tub, and although it started up OK, we immediately regretted it because it sounded like you were right next to a 747 taking off. Then we discovered it wouldn't shut off! I called the after-hours number but didn't get a response. Finally we found a GFI outlet opposite the sink and if we tripped it with the Test button, it shut off the Jacuzzi! That was the only real problem we had. The room was nice and roomy, and even though it was one of cheapest rooms, it had a nice couch and coffee table for meals and activities. Great view from the 3rd floor overlooking the side street and the bay over to the side. The bed is so plush in the Beach Primrose (as of 2025), they have a little stepstool at the foot for you to climb up. If you're marginally athletic you can hop up on it from the side. All in all, very comfy. The town is great. Lots of good food, including the bar/restaurant on the ground floor. Doordash and Ubers available in town, too. Very restful weekend. Read the history on a section of their web site and other accounts of Benicia and Vallejo. Amazing stories, including the fact that it was the site of the State Capitol for a year or so. Lots of ghosts in this town, including in this hotel. You can feel her in the walls and halls. I'm coming back soon to get to know it more.
