I arrived around 8/830p when they close at 9p/10p. I didn't get out of there until 1145p and it couldn't have been a smoother transaction. I didn't feel rushed, hurried or pressured from aannnyyy of the Sales or Finance team. They actually offered to stay and go over all its bells and whistles, I'm the one who had to call it a night; otherwise, I truly felt they would've stayed overnight just for me. I can't tell you how many follow-up calls I got within the first month of owning my new car. This place has knowledgeable employees who know thier stuff! It's bad when you come to a dealership knowing what you want, only to have it denied from you since the banks are pretty much in charge of everything. I was purchasing a used car in the amount of $3500. Using common logic, I interpreted it as a non wholesale vehicle with financing available. The banks in their extremely short and finite wisdom/buffoonery would not allow me to purchase the vehicle without a cosigner, and would not allow the only person who could cosign for me to sign the document, as she is out of state. Ever heard of e-signing? Apparently this dealership has not, nor it's financier....Other dealerships allow e-signing to be done because of geographically separated families. This dealership insists on a wet signature like it is the only way to do business. Very antiquated and pathetic. On top of that, no explanation was given other than "that's how it's always been" or "that's what the bank says" totally unacceptable. Google VCM issue before you buy a HONDA vehicle!!! The 2015 Odyssey I bought brand new from Shockley had the check engine light come on late one night, so I went to Advanced Auto for a diagnostic check. They wrote the code down for me, and I took it to Shockley the next day. At some point, the check engine light went off, but I still had the code. Shockley charged me a diagnostic fee and had a tech drive my car 32 miles to tell me that nothing is wrong. I continued driving the van until a few weeks later when the check engine light started flashing late at night while I was out of town. I had to have a mobile mechanic come to me and replace my sparkplugs. I had the sparkplugs replaced just a few months prior, so there is definitely an issue with my vehicle that is fouling the sparkplugs. A little research on the internet has opened my eyes to a serious issue with Honda's VCM feature that that causes oil to buildup on spark plugs and eventually causes failed piston rings and catalytic converters... Honda settled a class action lawsuit about the issue in 2013 and earlier model vehicles, but they are trying to brush the issue under the rug for vehicles after 2013. This dealership knew exactly what was going on with my van but didn't check the spark plugs or alert me to the issue. Instead they had their technician drive my car 32 miles and tell me nothing was wrong. I suggest anyone considering a Honda vehicle google VCM issues with Honda vehicles. You will discover thousands of Honda owners who have experienced repeated, serious issues with fouled spark plugs and failed piston rings before their vehicles even reached 100,000 miles- repairs costing $3000++++ My advice is to buy a different brand of vehicle and do your research beforehand! Stay away from a dealership and a brand that denies known issues and charges a fee to pretend like they don't know what's wrong with the vehicle you bought from them. read more

This was the fastest car buying process I've ever experienced. Bill was the salesperson that helped me out and he was pleasant from start to finish. He wasn't pushy and he listened the entire time. Dante was also great during the negotiation process and made sure I was satisfied with everything before finalizing the details. He was very approachable and made the experience stress-free as possible. A minor hiccup which led me to knock off a star was finding finger print marks on the ceiling of the drivers side. I completely missed this during the full inspection before driving it off the lot. The salesperson had missed it as well so I had to call and bring the car back because it looked like oil from a mechanics hand. Dante was very apologetic about the situation. I wasn't excited about driving back to Frederick to get it cleaned but mistakes happen. It's a brand new car so I expected it to be spotless inside and out. The sales staff were friendly to work with and it was no high pressure to buy. The price was upfront and no big sell when doing the finance. The inventory was very small but I got below MSRP. I took the car for a drive and upon returning to the dealership the cars engine was making a horrible ticking noise. The salesman Gabriel told me that it was a normal noise. I didn't believe that so I asked for them to check it out and they said that they already had and that their mechanic said it was normal noises. My family had purchased from Shockley for nearly the same period, so I decided to try there first. I'm not an easy sale, nor am I easy for salespersons to connect with, but Johny Martinez was provided my inquiry and we proceed from there. Johny had a very honest and refreshing nature about him. He didn't try to sell me a Honda. This brand is super dependable and well designed, especially over the past 2 years, so you either like them or you don't. He knew that, so he connected with me by presenting relatable information of his past experiences with cars as a customer and mechanic and didn't pressure. I love that he wasn't necessarily gunning for the sale. More salespeople need to realize this. Even the Shockley manager threw a little pressure at me, which was a turnoff, and seemed like he didn't necessarily listen to his salesman about the type of customer I was. Nonetheless, I left and Johny kept me well informed of any specials they had going on, never pressing, just informing and keeping in touch. My experience with him and Nick in financing was such a good experience, I would recommend Shockley as a place to consider, just because of them. Johny will be my go to for any future Honda purchases or recommendations. He has given me the best sales experience, since my favorite Darcars salesman, Ralph, did for 4 cars over the course of a decade. I bought an Odyssey last year and was happy with the Salesman. The service center is what I have a problem with. I was told a car wash was to be included in the price of an over-priced service package (10,000 mile maintenance package). This was IN WRITING. When I got home and inspected my car, it was obvious they didn't wash the car. When I call them out on not washing my car in an email, they replied they usually do car washes, but the car wash machine was broken. They had 2 chances to tell me this, but conveniently forgot to when selling me their over-priced servicing package and giving me my receipt when I picked up my car. So we paid for an inspection on the seventh of last month and we had a time limit till the seventh of this month, we fixed it and signed papers, came back today, the sixth, and they told us "Sorry, our inspector isn't here today but you missed the limit and would have to pay for another one." We had till tomorrow and he tried to BS us into paying for another one, we ended up not paying for it and leaving. Do your inspectors only work once a week? Worst experience so far in a Honda dealer. On Monday I called to schedule an appointment for an oil change and a tire alignment on my 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid. The appointment was set for 10am Tuesday. I arrived at early 9:30am and they took me right away. I said I was going to walk across the street and wait at Starbucks until they called me when my car was ready. They offered me a ride, I declined because it was a short distance away and the weather was nice. About an hour and a half later, I received a call saying my vehicle was ready. I went back and picked it up, all the work was done and they washed the cars exterior for free. The alignment turned out great and I received a nice printout of the adjustments they made to the car with a lot of details. Total price after tax was $147.47, much lower than I expected. read more

My experience took a big chunk of my Saturday but I was prepared for that because it is buying a car after all. I had tons of questions and was being a pain but everyone was very helpful and very patient with us. This experience was uncharted territory for me so I am very happy I had a pleasant experience. The only negative was the finance guy who was really rude and pushy when I declined further warranty, he didn't want to take no for an answer and it was unwanted pushiness, my answer was no and he should have accepted that. read more

This was a great experience. I had been to many dealers in the area. When I got to Shockley, I just wanted to buy something. I worked with Gary Brooks who took time with me during the car buying experience. Since the purchase of the car, he and the people at Shockley have been available for questions and service. They are all very friendly. One small glitch: When I bought the car I ordered car mats, they never called me to let me know they had arrived. A few weeks later I had to go to the dealership and ask for them. I was told they were not there. Later they found the car mats somewhere in the parts department. I would not even give one star to Shockley honda. The paint on top of my HONDA PILOT (2014) is peeling and I you must go to a dealer to fulfill the requirements from American Honda. Yes, I did not purchase my car from Shockley but you would think I would be treated with respect and honesty as if I had purchased my car from this dealer. Receiving response: We understand your frustration with your paint issue. Because you did not purchase or service the car with Shockley Honda, we can only assume you declined a paint protection warranty at the time of sale. (We would advise contacting your selling dealer to verify if you did in fact decline the paint protection) Although we are not your selling or service repair dealership, we acted as a liaison between you and American Honda resulting in a 50% reimbursement for a 5 year old car out of warranty. Many don't realize that a dealership is a separate business from American Honda. The dealership sells and services the vehicle; the manufacturer builds them and is solely responsible for goodwill decisions outside of warranty. We went to bat for you with American Honda and they agreed to split the cost with you. Because both Honda and your dealership mentioned this was the required process and I can forward that email to you. Now onto some other interesting points I would like to make the Paint protection warranty you mentioned I was able to reach out (Simoniz) and addressed the paint issue and even sent them a picture. They were able to confirm that "we would not have been able to cover this issue; paint protection warranty protects the surface of the paint against bird droppings, tree sap, hard water, etc." If I had purchased this warranty that you suggested if would not have been covered and they would not be able to assist with the Honda paint issue that we are trying to address. My only hope is that all the warranties that have been currently sold to customers were explained properly. If you would like the contact information to verify I would be more than happy to supply. I don't believe you went to "Bat" for me. I did not purchase my vehicle from you and you did the minimal and required steps in order to satisfy your requirements from American Honda. In closing, to the paying customers that purchased your car at Shockley Honda in the last couple of years please be prepared for these statements: I know that I sold you this car but I did not have prior knowledge of the paint issue. BAIT and SWITCH. I was buying a new CRV and trading in. I send out several emails to different dealerships. Everyone was within a few dollars of each other. 2 other dealers had me evaluate my trade thru a link on their website. Again very consistent. After a bunch of emails and phone calls with Shockley I made an appointment to come in and get the call. I went with them as the sales rep was responsive and easy to work with. I told her my concerns she said not to worry about it Shockley would take care of it. I asked if they had a problem with my trade evaluation from the other dealer, she said no problem. I told her i was coming from almost an hour away. I would have my children with this needed to be quick and easy. She said no problem. Once I got there everything was different. The price of the car went up, the lease payment went up, the trade value went down, then there were fees added. I asked about my emails showing a different price, a different payment, it showed fees were already included, and they would be in the parkball on the trade value. As we were walking out the manager came over and said I should pay more and take less because I get a tax break. $900 more for their car, $100 more per month ($3600, 36 months) and $2500 less for my car. A total difference of $7000. I told the manager and rep the 3 other dealers in the area, are able to do the deal as agreed in emails. There was no reason for me to pay more. They were unprofessional in the way this was handled. By now the kids were melting down and we had an hour drive back home. A whole Saturday wasted. I understand the numbers are going to change a little. But to bring me and my family into the dealership hoping we would love the car and just have to have it. That old school used carman sale tactics dont work anymore. The next morning I had a call with Honda of Chantilly to confirm the email pricing and trade. We got to the dealership that afternoon and in an hour we left with a new CRV. Nothing changed. read more

Service Review: While visiting family in MD (from TN), our 2005 Honda Odyssey threw up several warning lights in Frederick, so we decided to go to this place. We are sorry that we did. Our van had two separate issues: the warning lights, and a vibration issue (between 60-80mph, when accelerating). We were charged $655.99 to have an oil sensor replaced (w/pressure switch), plus a few other parts. Plus Side: We got service right away, the problems diagnosed (we thought), repaired (we thought) within a day, and a rental van for a good price. Negative Side: 1.) We were assured that the vibration issue was related to the oil pressure issue. After picking up the van, I was told that it had not been run up the highway, to test the vibration problem (red flag). Having to get back home, we did not have time to dispute with the mechanic. On the way down I-81, we learned that the problem persisted, and gradually got worse. (The fix was a bad axle, which our home mechanic fixed) 2.) We were told that the oil pressure problem was fixed, and it was, until we got home. On our way up the mountain to our house, the exact same issue started up again: it shifted into a persistently low gear and the same warning lights went off. (The fix was a needed oil flush, which our home mechanic did for us). So, in short, Shockley not only went with the most expensive fix for our problem, and did not fix it! Also, our 655.00 bill bloomed to over 1,000.00, as our home mechanic has to do his part! I ended up calling Shockley over the last week, to try to get some sort of refund, due to the trouble, and, after speaking with Dave Salter (Svc Mgr) and Gail Sterling (Svc Director), I got a total of $0.00. Both individuals refused to budge: vehemently stating that the sensor needed replaced (even though the same problem occurred in TN), and they stood by their diagnosis. Even when I offered to pay for the rental and parts (300.00+), & asked to get the labor cost back, I was denied. I have worked in Customer Service for most of my working life, and know that you sometimes have unknowns & need to split the difference to satisfy both parties. What I got at Shockley was not good Customer Service. They admit that they did not communicate well with us. They admit that they should have addressed the vibration issue. They also admit that they should have pushed the oil change, as it is normal to do one with that sort of work. But, basically, their lack of service is my problem, not theirs, and they should not pay anything for it. The sad part is that they are comfortable doing this to people! Well, Shockley, you could have lost 300.00, and split the difference with us. You could have even given us a full refund. But, you got greedy, and chose to give poor Customer Service: choosing to keep the 650.00. We have no choice but to accept your decision, but I can give a deservedly poor review, in hopes that people will avoid your place in the future. I hope your need for our $650.00 was worth it in light of your future lost sales and service. We will not be back, nor will our family and friends. read more

I've had good and bad experiences with this place, but I wouldn't recommend them. First Experience.... Took the car there to have the wiring harness repaired after baltimore rats at the inner harbor decided to eat the car. They fixed the wiring harness within the same day and I haven't had any issues since. Final Experience... Then another time, I took my car there to take advantage of some "Preferred Customer Incentive" and got my oil changed. The idiot tech that did the job over-torqued the drain bolt and stripped the drain hole threads. Then the feeb had the nerve to tell me "Uh sir...it looks like someone stripped out your oil pan drain bolts, its gonna be 300+ dollars to fix it up and get you on the road". I told that fool that the car was in perfect condition before I brought it in and it will be in perfect condition again before I leave or they will be talking to the Honda Corporate Office. The slick bum put a Butterfly-Plug in there instead of fixing it properly and I didn't find out until months later when I went in to get my oil changed at my regular place. Taking it back to Shockley Honda, they claimed ignorance and refused to fix what they broke. So, regardless...I won't ever be going back to this STEALERSHIP and they can burn for all I care. I wouldn't ever recommend anyone else go there either. read more

I traded my smart car in on a used Subaru outback in Aug 22. I gave a check to make pay the difference in price. The very next day, less than 100 miles it had used a quart of oil. Took it back tried to get my smart car back, the said no returns. The topped off the oil, said maybe they didn't fill it all the way. Nope it used a quart of oil everyday! I ended up finally getting my smart car back for the price of $3,500!!! Tell me that's fair!!! They made a lot of money on me and l only got my car back! Then to top it off l got a title to the Subaru months after l gave it back and now Feb 23, l got another title to the Subaru in my name!!! Don't buy from these people, they are just trying to make as much money as they can and don't care how they do it! I didn't keep the Subaru because l didn't want to put oil in it everyday, and l couldn't sell it to someone else knowing it used that much oil! But it cost $3,500, shame on them!!! read more

He didn't badger me (I walked out of DarCars for the very reason that the salespeople wouldn't leave me alone despite my requests). he let me test drive as many cars as I needed, etc. He didn't push a car on me. I was very pleased with Justin's help. Negative - I was a bit concerned that some of the paperwork that I was signing had the wrong VIN number associated with my car - and that some of the paper work did not have my proper name on it. I went to Shockley Honda to test drive the 2015 Honda Odyssey. I was pretty sure I was not going to buy the day I came in, because it was the first car I really looked at. This was my first experience with Shockley, although I had a relative who used to work here...and I have heard, overall, good things about it. The sales guy, Thomas, was nice and not real pushy (at the beginning). My biggest beef with the whole experience was perhaps that the salesman assigned to me really did not know anything about Hondas. Seriously? I am not a car geek at all, but I knew more about the Odyssey than him. I had some very basic questions about the 2015 model vs the 2013-2014. However, he could not answer my questions, nor did he seek someone else to find out. He just said, I don't know. When I'm looking at spending $30k+ on a new car, I better know what I'm getting. One of the main questions I wanted to know was if the transmissions on the Odysseys were better than they used to be. Up til around 2010, I heard that the trannys would blow at around 100k-120K or so. My 2004 blew at around 110k. So I was really disappointed with having to replace my trans, and if I thought about getting another one, I wanted to be assured it would not happen again or at least get a decent answer that the problem had been fixed. All I got was, "I don't know" and "My customers who have bought them from me really like their Odysseys when I call them back in 3 months! Hmmm....I think a new car should last at least that long. I wanted to know if the transmission issues had been fixed. I still don't know the answer. I then asked about MPG. I think that is perhaps the easiest question to answer. He gave me a range...based on his customer feedback...but it was not a great answer either. I felt like the guy was selling a car to make a few bucks and survive but he did not "love" Hondas. Finally, we did sit down and talk numbers. This is the part I hate the most. We went back and forth a few times...lowering the cost. They sliced a good $5K off the sticker price fairly easily. Yet I knew it was still not a "deal" because they came down so fast. They ran my "credit" and never showed me what my score was. So they kept it from me. Darcars (next store) printed off my credit report and gave it to me. Those guys were awesome. End of story, I did not buy a car from Shockley. It was not a bad experience...but it was not great either. The sales guy just didn't know his product, so I didn't feel comfortable moving ahead with a sale. read more
