Overall, this company lacks integrity. If you do not care about your furnishings, have a 12 hour day to waste, enjoy high levels of distress, want movers that speed through packing, wrapping and loading phases who are extremely careless with your belongings, who do not understand English well and can't seem to get your packed goods to a destination without a significantly hours long and mysterious 'detour' (in which they could have done another move job), if you want gaslighting by company employees to the max, and the run-around treatment, with a few dollars offered for irreplaceable, damaged furniture, by all means, this is the company for you. read more

We have used Shleppers to move 4+ times within the NY tri-state area. Always good outcomes at reasonable prices. However, please heed this warning: Do not even consider Shleppers for your long distance move!! Even if the proposed binding price is acceptable, even if the pick up staff are efficient and competent, the problems you may encounter with the current dysfunctional Long Distance Manager and Owner will not be worth the ultimate upset and aggravation. Some of the issues encountered are as follows: 1. The Long Distance Manager could not be bothered to itemize the confusing multiple charges on my credit card for each of the 2 long distance moves, erroneously overcharging a deposit by $1600+. Instead of apologizing and promptly issuing a credit, this individual attempted to convince me that it was ok to prematurely charge most of the total cost of the move, instead of only the deposit amount, even before delivery. In any event, no credit would be issued unless one dealt with the owner! The owner complained that if he issued a credit, he will charge us additional fees that his bank might assess for this service! After a lengthy phone call, the owner eventually agreed to credit the overcharge of $1600+. 2. Arranging for a delivery window for each move became another issue with this Manager. After supplying approximate delivery windows for each move, as suggested by our Estimator, the Long Distance Manager arrogantly insisted, for her convenience in planning, that we were required to be available for delivery on any and all days of a 7-14 day delivery window. I never realized that I was now the Shlepper's Long Distance Manager's employee who had to do as I was told. Again, numerous time consuming email exchanges with the Manager, phone calls to our Estimator, who confirmed that customer's plans change all the time, and it was the Manager's job to deal with that reality. Eventually, agreement was reached re an acceptable delivery window for each move. Totally unnecessary time consuming aggravation! 3. Shleppers contract states that all long distance moves require the use of an 18 wheel 73 ft long tractor trailer for deliveries. We were emailed pix of this vehicle. If a residential neighborhood cannot safely accommodate this sized truck, then Shleppers needs to contract with a local mover, obtain a small shuttle truck at the destination, and engage local personnel to offload the contents from the tractor trailer to the local shuttle truck for delivery. There is an extra cost of $1.00/cu ft for this service. This very specific information was provided to us by the Long Distance Manager as well as in a conversation with the owner. Given that one of the moves was to a small residential area, we agreed to pay the $919 extra charge so that the possessions could be transferred to the smaller shuttle truck from the tractor trailer. 4. Once Shleppers had our $919 for the proposed extra services, we learned that no tractor trailer was ever utilized for either of the 2 moves, nor was there any arrangement with a local mover, hiring of a local shuttle truck or local personnel to offload the now non-existent tractor trailer and make delivery. Instead, without informing us of this change in plan, Shleppers simply chose to use their everyday regular moving van along with their own personnel to make both deliveries. There is nothing in our contract that permits Shleppers to impose a $919 extra charge on an already binding contract when they use their regular moving van. 5. We now have to deal with an angry and irrational owner, who insists that he has every right to retain these funds, and the customer has no right to dispute the credit card charges. He denies the facts described above and has become abusive and threatening. How's that for the excellent customer service that Shleppers insists they provide???? read more

I booked Schleppers because they gave me a good quote - they then proceeded to charge $3,000 more once they arrived and actually packed the truck. Communication was terrible and I could not get an answer as to when my furniture was expected to arrive. Once it did arrive, several pieces were damaged, including my vintage bar. I used them for a long distance move. Their quote was a couple hundred cheaper than other companies I contacted. The team of movers showed up on time, wrapped all my furniture and took apart the bed (headboard, footboard, and frame). It took about 2 hours to pack everything into the truck from the 2nd floor of an elevator building. My new place was on the ground floor and only took an hour to unload the truck. I recently moved 8 months after losing my husband. I was quite impressed with the gentleman who came to my house to give me a quote. I decided to pay extra to have them pack for me. What a huge mistake! Both days they showed up later than they said and they literally just threw things in boxes...they didn't even use bubble wrap. Some plates and glasses were cracked but I didn't care about that. The tv clickers were not with the tv. The wires for my printer was not with the printer...I couldn't find the power cord for two things. My live plants were put in boxes with no indication that they were in a box. Many of the boxes had nothing written on them so when they came to my new home we didn't know where to tell them to put it! When something was written on them it just said kitchen, basement, bedroom. My master bedroom bed had a huge dirt mark on the sheet and that side of the bed was all chipped like it wasn't even wrapped! The last day they actually left without doing a walk through and they left a huge picture on the wall as well as several other things! They missed drawers in my kitchen and an entire closet! I am not sure if the problem was getting good help due to CoVid but it was an awful experience. They did nothing for me like a refund of some of my money or even offering to pick up the old boxes I was breaking down....nothing! Do not use them! When I received the letter with a claim form attached the letter said nothing about Refunds for "Service". After this review I received a call from Shleppers and I will be submitting the claim form asking for a refund and I will update this review accordingly. They offered me a $100 refund....joke! The worst experience I could have possibly imagined with a moving company. - I was told by the sales rep, Gavin, that the reason Shleppers's price was higher than the competing bids was that everything was done "in-house" and that from end to end, every person handling my belongings would be a Shleppers employee. This was a flat-out lie to gain my business. The truck that delivered my belongings was not owned and operated by Shleppers. This was confirmed by the truck's operator. The truck was labeled as BH Relocations on the passenger door and its USDOT number confirms that information. The person driving and supervising the delivery of my belongings was not a Shelppers employee. This was confirmed by the truck operator. The three movers that showed up to unload my belongings were not Shleppers employees or even experienced movers, as they had been hired as day laborers off of both Craigslist and Taskrabbit. They each individually confirmed this to be true. I paid extra to have Shleppers pack my belongings. I was told by Gavin that they were professional packers and that everything would be handled with care and properly cataloged and inventoried to make sure nothing was lost. I even asked if I should "pre-pack" anything, and again was told by Gavin not to touch anything, and that these were professional packers, and they would take care of everything with care. This was a complete lie. My belongings were carelessly thrown into boxes with no care for the state in which they would arrive. Like-items were not paired together. For example, the TV was in one box, the power cord in another, the Amazon fire stick that was plugged into the tv in another, and I still haven't found the remote for the TV. It took days to even use our TV, as I had to locate each component. I had boxes with things in them from literally every room of my apartment mixed together. As a friend put it when I showed him a picture, "if 'not my fucking problem' was a box, that is what it would look like. The boxes were not cataloged. Every box that came through my door was labeled "Family Room" instead of "Bedroom 1, Bedroom 2, Kitchen, Bathroom, Front Hall, etc. Every last one. This meant that as each box came in, it had to be opened to get an idea of where it was to go. Additionally, the person who packed it was not labeled either, as I was assured was part of the protocol, and the "inventory list" has a place for it. Instead, every box said it was packed by "Packer Pac'' so I can be sure there is no accountability. When I asked for my belongings with 10 days' notice, I was told that trucks were booked and I need to wait for the next round of trucks. Fine, it happens. But I was then told, after saying that there was availability, that I had to wait for an even additional round of trucks. A number of my belongings were either damaged or destroyed, including several pieces of furniture like a wardrobe, a butcher's block cabinet, and my son's crib just to name a few. Gavin assured me that my packing would include the disassembly and reassembly of any furniture as needed for the move. When the movers took apart my son's crib, they again assured me that the movers would reassemble the crib upon delivery. When I asked about the reassembly of the crib to the person in charge of the delivery, he said that they don't do that. It took me insisting that it be done because I had been promised it would be and paid to have my things packed, for him to finally relent. I then provided him with the factory instruction booklet for assembly. Upon completion of the reassembly, I was handed a number of bolts, screws, and wooden support pegs and told they were "extra parts." I then informed him that I personally assembled the crib when it was bought and that there were no extra parts, he insisted that they were extra and made it very clear that he was already there too late (it was not even 5pm) and that he needed to go. Suspecting that this was yet another lie from a representative of the company, I took the crib apart myself, only to discover that they had neglected to use two main bolts and multiple support pegs. Let me say that again. A representative of this company assembled my child's crib incorrectly and lied about it, leaving the safety and structural integrity compromised. The only thing that saved my child from possible harm from this faulty work was my own diligence in checking his work. While moving my belongings into my home, the non-employees scuffed, scratched and damaged the hardwood floors throughout the house that had just been refinished the week prior. I can only assume that had the professional movers I had been promised, and paid for, been the ones moving the items, this would have been avoided. On the day my belongings were delivered, the representatives of Shleppers repeatedly tried to deliver items to me that I did not own. This is literally just the tip of the iceberg, but I have run out of room. read more

I used Shleppers twice in the last few months. First time I did have a good experience and they moved my belongings into storage. On the second move, they moved my belongings out of storage. My couch was broken in half. Yes, they broke it so the seat was no longer connected to the back. The movers deemed it to be unable to be repaired, they did not even bring it into my new apt. The person who handled these claims later blamed me that I did not purchase a better quality couch. This was unprofessional. The couch cost me approximately $1000. I was offered $60 initially. I'm not sure if this is another scam from this company of if she's telling the truth, all I know is that I have been scammed. They were supposed to call me 24 hours prior the truck arrival. They called a few hours before that, telling me that their partner company, BLVD movers, will arrive with their truck and that I don't need to worry about it. Once they arrived, the estimate they gave me was of about 7,500 US dollars, instead of the 4200 from the estimate. I called several times to make sure the estimate is as accurate as possible in order to avoid paying extra. I'm on a tight budget, and as a teacher, I knew I will have a big amount of books to move. I called more than 10 times. I was lucky they returned one call. Both Erica Sanchez and Jesse Heeber were rude, entitled, yelled at me and hang up their phone on me. I'm not sure to what company they belong, if they "work" independently scamming people or else. From BLVD Movers I received little to none help, saying they were not responsible for the estimate, they just deliver my stuff. I have used Shleppers 4 time prior to my latest move. All four went smoothly. This last move was a nightmare. I paid to have my belongs packed and unpacked. It was not cheap. The packing was terrible. They ran out of boxes, they didn't have a box big enough for my 65 inch television. The TV was dropped and completely destroyed. Somewhere between NY and Florida my boxes became soaking wet. Files and paperwork are a mess. The movers packed a canister of flour without taping it shut. Wet flour over everything in the same box. Glass on my picture frame was broken. I estimate at least $5,000 in damages and Shleppers offered me $50. I pushed back and they came back with an offer of $185 because I was a repeat customer but I had to sign a disclaimer saying I wouldn't post a negative review. These guys were the best! Arrived early, amazing team of guys and so polite and thorough. Had our house packed on two trucks in about 3-4 hours with the utmost of care. Wrapped every piece of furniture so carefully, especially anything with glass (wrapped those three different times with blankets and cardboard). Not one thing was damaged or broken. We had to move up our moving date at the last minute because of an issue with our buyer and they accommodated us without an issue and showed up early that morning ready to go. Had a great moving experience with Shleppers. After getting consultations from a number of moving companies, price quotes that ranged all over the place, reading all the reviews, and then just hoping that I get my stuff, that not too much of it is broken, and that the walls and floors of the house I just purchased don't get ruined, I am so happy, and so relieved. They were very nice, very thorough, and careful. I didn't even bubble-wrap my glassware and not a thing broke. They really exceeded my expectations. Oh and the price ended up being exactly as quoted. They were also responsive the entire time beforehand, answering all my annoying questions. Moving this time was definitely more stressful than ever before, since we moved to a different state, to a home that we actually purchased (and thus care more about), and with a lot more stuff, plus a baby. I don't remember being so concerned about using movers in the past, but this time around, it was definitely stressful and I know why people are so worried about making sure they choose a good company. I've never left a review in my life , I waited a month to make sure emotions didn't get in the way. First , they outsource to a third party . Then the day of the move they change the price, within 5 minutes of arriving at your home. Not sure how the foreman can count so many boxes and furniture in under 5 minutes . By the way the foreman said he was a cardiologist in his country but came here so he can work with his hands. You can't make this up. I'm for everyone making a dollar , if that was the worst part of my move I wouldn't be typing right now . After the price adjustment at my home I had the option to pay more for them to pack my television and buy boxes. They broke vases in front of us , never apologized . Foreman said it was our fault for not packing properly . Even though one of his workers slammed the box with the vases in front of us. They left the leaf to the dining room table in our backyard lawn . What else , some other random workers showed up to smoke some pot and help carry and break more stuff . One plasma tv that was purchased 11 months ago is trash . They refused to carry the refrigerator inside and left in my garage . The foreman was the most arrogant disrespectful individual I've had the displeasure of interacting with . There is not a piece of furniture that wasn't damaged with a scratch . They dropped a bureau from the top of the truck , again foreman said it never happened . But if it did , it was crated with a blanket . The crazy part is , the foreman and I were watching as it fell from the truck . But he still insisted he didn't see it . That to me is just pure disrespect . I called my rep the day of the move he would not answer . I called the office the day of the move , and was told by a manager the issue was resolved and I wouldn't be charged additionally . The next day she told me sorry I thought you were someone else . I guess this must happen all the time , since my particular circumstances didn't resonate with her. After all the adjustments , I still had to go back to my old house cause they didn't empty closets I was charged for. Shleppers was recommended to me by my mother in law and I'm glad she did! Our movers were on time, efficient, professional, and courteous. My wife and I had to move in a hurry and the team that moved us was extremely understanding that we were less than prepared and worked with me while I was still packing to get everything on the truck. All of our belongings were wrapped in moving blankets and carefully moved out of our apartment and down three flights of stairs and made it to the next destination safely and securely. All of our stuff was moved off the truck and put exactly where my wife wanted it before I could even make it from Brooklyn to Long Island. Your moving service is the second we've used in the past 10 years and it was also by far the worst. While Shleppers Moving and Storage employees were pleasant and seemingly efficient, and were tipped accordingly, it turns out extra care was taken for protecting various items and almost no care at all was expended for others. As we could not arrive at our out of State destination immediately, our items were stored in the Bronx and then ultimately delivered to our new home several days later. The final moving service was not Shleppers, but seemingly an outfit contracted by Shleppers. The latter company Roadway Moving, NYC, was seemingly efficient, hardworking and their employees pleasant to be around. Once boxes and wrappings of furniture artworks, etc. were opened, however, furniture bases were broken, metal shelves bent, a prized reading lamp destroyed, plastic file storage boxes all had broken lids. The use of other companies, in the course of our move, was the opposite of what was explained to us initially and may indeed account for the excessive damages to our belongings. Now we are forced to go through an elaborate claim form, look for receipts, some too old to track down, for a claim that will hardly compensate for replacement and repairs. This Company promises allot, but their delivery falls well short. Had we known in advance how our precious items would be treated we would not have contracted for the services of Shleppers Moving and Storage. Our recommendation is to find another, more responsible, reliable and concerned moving and storage company. Our experience, with Shleppers, caused us in the end nothing but anxiety, aggravation and unexpected expenses. I've used Shlepper's Moving & Storage for 2 moves in Manhattan and have had great experiences both times. The reason I enjoy working with them is primarily because of the kindness of their employees. I worked with Anne in customer service and she was so kind - and all 3 movers (sorry I can't remember their names) were so nice throughout the move. They worked very quick and efficient, and were very careful with my items. The movers even helped me vacuum my rugs before they unpacked my furniture. I also ended up selling my couch right before the move so Shleppers didn't end up having to move it -- and they adjusted the overall price to remove the couch. Why I highly recommend Shleppers strongly after a Complicated Move: After considerable reservation and trepidation concerning the reputation of five moving companies (each had horror stories on the internet that customers wanted to tell) I interviewed/ priced and evaluated all five to see for myself if the commentary could be true. My criteria was such that each company had to be substantive in size and reach, and there would be no mom or pop movers; as I needed reach for two out of state moves and two local moves for my mom's estate. After some reservation I decided on Shleppers as they put forth the best potential. This company was also recommended due to successful outcomes by my listing real estate broker in NYC. Much to my surprise Shleppers exceeded my expectation in all areas but one. For background, my move was an estate move (four siblings) which required two moves within the NY metropolitan area and one move to Baltimore and a second move to South Carolina. The two New York moves took place on the last day of packing. Part of my consideration involved hiring a company to do ALL the packing. This involved 378 different items both large and small. I counted a 60 place setting of dinnerware as one item! I for the most part did not ship valuable art or jewelry (that which I considered $2,000+ in value), but I did ship less valued art and good costume jewelry in the moving boxes. I did ship some good furniture (i.e. an expensive French Armoire ($6,000 value), and a few crystal lamps, glass and porcelain items, etc.). There was plenty of opportunity for breakage if things were not packed properly. My sales person was Gavin. Gavin did a good job. He was astute as well as precise when measuring and evaluating the contents in the apartment. He was careful and meticulous about documenting most items of size and value to be included in the move. He had the confidence of the owner (Rez) to quote w/o issue but all fine tuning DID require his going back to the company's owner for final decisions. This is a tightly run company and the owner (s) have a touch in everything. Gavin was available at all times but once the deal was signed he dropped from the picture. In fairness to the company, the operation is very compartmentalized and each respective unit is able to handle what needs to be accomplished within their discipline; so I really didn't require the salesman again nor did I go back to him for anything. I would have likely tried to go back to him if I had a substantive issue which I could not resolve on my own? But it is for that reason and one other issue (insurance contract language) that I cannot give Shleppers an above average mark in all categories (but four out of five categories is not bad in my opinion). I fortunately did not need to go back to my sales person and fight for something as all aspects of the move were covered in detail in the contract. Amy in the insurance department does not write the contract (this was Gavin's responsibility) but she is compelled to act according to the wording and language in the contract. Amy was a pleasure to deal with (more comment later) as she handled all insurance issues in a most professional and timely manner. On the first packing day, I met the crew of six who was headed by the team leader Hassan. There is also a bit of trickery to this as the sales person (Gavin) was very straight forward about telling me I would get the number one or two team in the company for packing. I was Shleppers has some sort of internal ranking system??? This is a selling tactic as I believe ALL packing teams are likely equal in experience! They mix tenured people with less tenured depending on the needs of the move and it was Hassan who was assigned to my moves. Originally I asked Gavin for the names of the #1 and #2 packing team managers before the move which he gave me. I was told that either #1 or #2 would show up for the move. This did not happen. HOWEVER, Hassan could not have been a better choice. I cannot speak to how well the #1 and #2 teams operate, but I can state that Hassan and his team could not have been any better prepared from soup to nuts. If an item that his team was packing needed to be noted for damage or was blemished, the team member would bring this to Hassan's attention so there would be no argument later. All issues were noted by Hassan. By the way, Hassan also packs and he is a good packer! More importantly he does not look over the shoulders of his team so I felt the team had a lot of respect for him and they would go about doing what was assigned to them w/o issue. He assigned different members to various assignments throughout the two days. When he moved a team member to a different assignment during the day they gladly followed his directions. I did not sense any tension among the crew so I assume they were comfortable and knew the importance of working "as a team".
