House salad

We went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We have been before and this time we took our two children. Each was able to find something to enjoy on the menu including the 40 ounce steak eaten by our teenage son, who said it was really good. Service was great! It was not that busy for a Wednesday evening around 8 pm. The spaghetti carbonara was what I enjoyed. It was flavorful and very delicious. The atmosphere was great as usual and my husband got a free dessert for his birthday, the chocolate cake!

No flambé on the bananas foster

First time going to shkode chop house at gunlake casino and for a chop house setting and prices I was expecting more. We waited at the hostess station for a while until someone sat us, the waitress didn't know how to open a bottle of wine and when she did she broke the cork and spilled some wine on the table, came time for bananas foster and she didn't even know how to flambe the rum, the manager only went to 2 tables and skipped the rest of us. We're went there for our Anniversary, and mashed potatoes were so salty with garlic salt I couldn't even eat it. Several people I spoke to had a mediocre experience also. But the rest of our time at the hotel and casino was wonderful!

Frozen inspired cocktail - (I want to say that this was called "Into the Unknown"...but I might be wrong.)

A bit pricey, but the food was good! We ordered a variety of items as we went during their half off month, so we were able to get more bang for our buck ;) Appetizers: Jenga Fries ($11) - Truffle oil, pecorino, trio of sauces; each piece is literally the size of a larger jenga piece. Strong smell/taste of truffle, which we love! Oysters ($18) - vodka & cocktail sauce, apple mignonette; Yummy! Nothing additional to comment here. Pork Belly ($13) - Corn puree, arugula pesto, azuki beans, brioche crostini, under a smoked dome; The smoked dome added a nice charred flavor to the Pork Belly. Charred Spanish Octopus ($16) - Thai salad, forbidden rice, aromatic herbs; We somehow ended up with a really dinky piece, which was a bit disappointing. Flavor was all right - we still laugh about the size of the Octopus leg to this day lol Yellow Fin Tuna Carpaccio ($16) - Fennel & arugula salad, blood orange dressing; Great taste, but probably wouldn't order again because of the price v. size. You can get the same quality fish at some sushi restaurants in GR, for a better price/amount. Soup: Maryland Crab Chowder ($9) - Cream, carrots, celery, onion, potatoes; Cool presentation, nice flavor. It wasn't overly salty, and we really enjoyed the crab chunks. Entrees: 16oz. Ribeye Steak ($44) - 28 day wet aged, served with potato puree, asparagus; Steak was tender and juicy. Seafood Risotto ($36) - Shrimp, scallops, grilled 6oz. lobster tail; This was okay, probably wouldn't order it again. Fire Roasted Seafood Platter ($110) - Two 60z. lobster tails, jumbo scallops, shrimp, clams, oysters, potato puree, seasonal vegetables; Lobster tails were grilled to perfection, the sauce/juices that the clams/scallops/shrimps/oysters came in were delicious. Chilean Seabass ($32) - Caulilini puree, pickled mustard seeds, miso reduction; Fresh, clean taste!

Return to Shkode again for the sur and turf. Great waitstaff and great food. It has become one of my favorite spots. Highly recommend.

Burratta appetizer. That sauce on the side is delicious and hubby took all the grapefruit

Really good food. I have to give it that. The atmosphere is OK. Not sure why I was a bit underwhelmed...I guess it was that we were supposed to be in a pretty high-endish steak house and you get to watch the people in the casino coming up to the windows to check out the menu. That is picky for sure but goes with the vibe I had of just not being super impressed. The service was not great...and it had nothing to do with staffing. There were so many hostesses and managers walking around. We had to wait for over 15 minutes for water and to get a HI. Then we ordered drinks and the bar was behind so we got bread and appetizers before our beverages showed up. The food was very good. We got the burrata appetizer and it was good. Our steaks (I got the filet and hubby got the bone in fillet) were delicious. The jenga fries were yummy and fun. The crème brûlée does deserve the recommendation that the manager gave us. Overall, when thinking of the bill and that it is trying to sell it's self as a high end steak house, I would rather head to Kzoo and go to Websters or up to GR. It is fun to be able to head right out and gamble of that is your thing though.

For the price, this place is pretty low class with mediocre food and service. I'll pass.

What really stood out was the bartending -- not just the skill, but the passion. After hearing the bartender's take on the Old Fashioned, I let him make it his way -- and it might be one of the best I've had. Balanced, bold, and beautifully smooth. Two of my friends described what they were in the mood for, and the bartender crafted custom cocktails for each of them -- both drinks were spot on and had them raving the rest of the night. If you're in Grand Rapids and want a cocktail experience that goes beyond the ordinary, SidebarGR is a must. Expert mixology, great atmosphere, and personalized service that makes you feel like a regular -- even on your first visit.

To find the entrance, go down the stairs towards Big O's Pizza and instead of turning right, take a left and you will see Sidebar's subtle entrance. It's dim lit and quite cozy in there. Limited seating and some spots at the bar were open and we took a seat up there. We did notice to the right of the bar there is a small additional area with more seating but still not a lot. I really enjoyed the espresso martini from here. The drink was so smooth and had the perfect balance of flavors. Highly recommend. We only stayed for one drink but I would definitely come back for another sometime. The bartenders were also really kind and having a good time with everyone in there! Really loved the atmosphere and our experience while we were there.

It's next door to their sister restaurant, Lovejoy. Walking in, the space is very dimly lit with a nice bar and some cozy seating. We were directed to a couch and a couple of low chairs. The menu is organized into different "chapters," with different themes for each chapter. They also have beer, wine, spirit-free options, and a spirits list. I wanted something fun, so I chose the Don the Beachcomber, a rum-based tiki cocktail that is flamed tableside. My friend got the Obstacle No. 1, which is a bourbon drink that they smoke at your table. Very theatrical and fun! These drinks were $20+ so pretty pricey, but worth it for a fun occasion. We had a nice time just relaxing and catching up. I would say it's not a great spot for a large group, but definitely a fun date night place. They have a small food menu of offerings from the restaurant next door that sounded tasty. We had just eaten but I'd be interested in their small plates. I'm so glad I got to experience this place. Live performances, good food, AMAZING drinks, and wonderful staff makes the drive worth it every single time! The cocktail bar has a cool story and I love that every menu item has a feeling to it. My favorite drink for the night was from their limited edition summer menu, the electric slide was perfect and refreshing (sign my petition to get my drink on the regular menu lol), my boyfriend had an old fashioned by one of the bartenders that another couple near us said makes the best, and he indeed said it was made perfectly! (Idk what that means cause I think they're gross, but ‍), the mint julep is also a must try as their signature drink, ooo and the my prerogative is pretty tasty too.
