Barbacoa tacos
Marie W.

Pleasantly full at noon on a Wednesday, I was seated immediately. It's a cool space once you're inside but you can't help but feel you're still on the gaming floor. I ordered the barbacoa tacos and honestly, they were some of the best tacos I've had in a long time. They weren't greasy, the toppings were fresh, and the pickled jalapeños weren't overly pickly or spicy.

Mushroom and Sausage Flatbread

After seeing all the negative reviews, I was pretty hesitant about eating here. But it was surprisingly good! I think you have to accept that it is just a nicer bar food restaurant. It's not fancy. I had the mushroom and sausage flatbread. My husband got the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. Both were good. I wouldn't say they were awesome, but definitely good. The chicken sandwich was no where near hot but a good chicken sandwich. My flatbread was hot, cheesy and flavorful. The beer was good too! We sat outside and caught a breeze. Overall, I would come here again. I am not sure if the negative reviews came from people who had high hopes of some high class dining. But we just came for some nice bar food after we gambled a little.

Food here is okay. The Crab Cakes were a decent size but was more bready than crabby. Soup was extremely salty, so we ended up packing it up and bringing it home to dilute. Nashville hot chicken burger was okay - nothing out of the ordinary, and not spicy. Husband liked his fish tacos, but he said it wasn't anything that was overly amazing. If it hadn't been for their half off all month promotion, we probably would not have tried it. I prefer their cafe/other eateries that they have at Gun Lake.

My husband and I visited last night. It was about a 45 min wait for a table (not bad) so we played a couple games while we waited. (They send a text when your table is ready) Cons: We did have to wait 20mins before we were even greeted by a server and the only reason we got that server was because I had to go and ask for one. So I was a little Hangry Pros: The restaurant was nice, great atmosphere. Once we got a server he was very nice and apologetic and explained that it was the 2nd day and they are still working out some of their systems. I ended up getting the burger and beer flight, and my husband had the pork sandwich. We also had the philly egg rolls as an appetizer and I must say EVERYTHING was delicious. They also gave us two free desserts for the wait which my husband gladly accepted and gobbled up lol

My barbacoa tacos are mini-tacos @$18 for 3. But I am full enough. If they had a lake view that would be one thing, but c'mon. I see why they are under 4 stars. Good bones and staff took time to ask for feedback. However, I felt like something was missing from my tacos, and I should have asked for a menu. Instead, I asked my server and she assured me, no it's just meat and pickled onions. Actually, it's not. It's supposed to come with mango salsa, which was not provided. Part of being a good server is checking the order when it comes out of the kitchen. That was a fail. Make hay while the sun shines but within reason.

It took about 25 minutes to get waters (after us asking twice), and another 15 to get our drinks. We ordered everything at once, and it probably took another 35 for everything to come out to us. We had to hunt down silverware because after asking, it never got to us. Our server was very nice, but not very attentive, and we had to ask twice, even three times at times to get extra napkins, sauces, water. The food was decent. The chicken enchilada soup was just watered down chili. I've had better Caesar salads from a kit. Sweet potatoe fries were yummy, but it was all over just subpar.

In other words, all these weeks later, it appears they gave our table to someone else and cancelled us. I'm sure the food is fine, but I will never know because they did us dirty and now we can't find a reservation elsewhere in town, as everywhere else is booked for the very busy night. Worst part, there was no sincere apology. Would not recommend, as they are not a reliable business partner. EDIT 11/14/25: THE DAY AFTER I POSTED THIS, THE ASSISTANT MANAGER CALLED US BACK, APPOLOGIZED AND REBOOKED OUR TABLE AFTER GVSU GRADUATION. I AM UPDATING MY RATING, AND WILL UPDATE AGAIN AFTER OUR EVENT NEXT MONTH. SO FAR, THEY HAVE MADE THINGS RIGHT FOR US! (although we did spend two hours last night calling every other restaurant in the area to try and book and had not luck, causing more stress). EDIT 12/8/2025: GVSU's commencement got out early, so we headed to the restaurant to see if they could seat us a little earlier than our reservation. They did! The food was excellent and everyone was satisfied with their plate. Good service, and a great atmosphere. I highly recommend this place and they made things right after our initial experience.

Unfortunately, when we visited this most recent time, the market was not working so I ordered a flight with my dinner. I ordered the Honey Chicken sandwich with the cheese curds and it was honestly delicious. The chicken was good and a perfect blend of savory and sweet, the sandwich came with lettuce, freezer pickle and ranch. The cheese curds were surprisingly some of the best I've had and were perfect with a bit of ranch. I'd have the meal again and hopefully next time, the exchange is up and running! :)

Don't often head out to Kalamazoo, but would definitely stop by again if I was in the area!
