First off, our server was amazing. I wish I could remember her name but she was nothing short of outstanding. So friendly and welcoming and very attentive, even though it was a Friday night. Our dishes were also delicious. We split a few dishes to start, the crab rangoon and the pork bao. Both were really good and quite a good portion (the bao in particular was really filling). For my entree I went with the Thai chicken coconut curry while my husband went with the orange chicken. I loved my curry and the portion was also quite generous. My husband also liked his orange chicken but he said he enjoyed my curry just a little bit more. The ambiance inside is really cool, too. Dark but not dreary, with lot of pops of light and color. Felt very chic. Overall, a really solid experience and a very welcome addition to Saugatuck since the last time we had visited. Looking forward to another visit next time we're in town!

The wings were huge and kind of gamey, and the skin was not crispy so they were not my favorite to eat. The fries were tasty but nothing special. I will give 5 stars for the beer! I had the lake noir, which was a blueberry/blackberry beer and the other fruit beer which was watermelon flavored. They were both fruity and refreshing and I really enjoyed them. I would come back for the pizza, which seemed a bit pricey but looked delicious.

We had the lake trout and the hanger steak. The lake trout was gamey, oddly flavorless but also had a strong musky flavor, severely under seasoned during cooking. The spinach and embellishments saved the dish from being totally inedible. Presentation was sad and sloppy. The steak with tallow fries was a joke. The meat was chewy/tough, the sauce tasted like nothing, and the fries tasted like they came straight out of the freezer section of Walmart (freezer taste included). Wedges or fingerlings would have been a far better pairing in our opinion. Both of our plates were left barely half finished and it turned into a date of being food critics lol. A positive was they did make a decent old fashioned (was more of a double), and their French 75 was fabulous. Overall, it was a joke. We love interesting new places with unique menu options. We chose this place for that reason. Unfortunately we felt it was a case of "quantity over quality". These dishes had so much potential, but it was by far our worst food experience of our trip.

They have Bluetooth radios to borrow if you need one. Following the water from Lake Michigan to the boat harbor takes the full 90 minutes of the baseline rental going at the top allowable speed. It is a great way to spend an afternoon and see the sights. If you are not looking for a rental- there is a great back patio to enjoy food and drink and take in the sights of boaters. The donut boat was easy to operate. You sit in a circle with a circle table in the middle. Everyone in our group had so much fun! The circle set up was great for talking, laughing and socializing! I would love to rent one of the adorable retro boats next time! This is a must do in Saugatuck!

Service was alright. Nothing to write home about. Not sure I'd make this a place to visit a second time. Thought its worth a try once.

I do not believe they serve food here but did see bartenders making microwavable popcorn on request to several patrons. So this place is designed with a three-room set-up. You walk in and it's a square carpeted room that can be used for live music. Then you reach the bar area, then there are pool tables. There seemed to be an area behind the pool tables but I was too afraid to go back there. Now in terms of bar design, I would have led with the bar but that's just me and I'm sure the architects (possibly Mike Brady from "The Brady Bunch") knew what they were doing. I tend to trust professionals, apart from what our public health "experts" did to us during the forementioned COVID. This bar is cash only. That's probably in other reviews. Also, if you have AT&T cell service, good luck. There's no service so you can't look up scores and check Instagram. And now you're thinking, "what about the wifi?" C'mon bro, be serious. I love this bar. They have four different TVs in the main bar area that range from 19 to 45 inches. All are on different setups. Antenna, YouTubeTV, etc. The staff is fantastic. Patrick and Katie were my two favorites. Entertaining and straight out of bartending central casting. I was just drinking beers so I can't comment on what like a cocktail or normal-person drink tastes like. Clientele ranges from bachelorette parties to people who have seen some shit. It's a dive bar that never had to try to be a dive bar. You'll read other reviews on this place and they are super granular or longwinded or whatever. Don't pay attention to those bozos. This place is strictly vibes. Did I mention the dropped ceilings have art paintings on them? One even has a Pontiac painted on it. Hell yeah, Michigan. Haven't seen a Pontiac since cars still had cassette tape players in them. I would live there if I could. And I'm a proud Ohioan.

I can't say the food is earth shatteringly good or anything, but we all enjoyed it. It feels like a place where a little nostalgia plus the shine of vacation elevates it to me. Oh and beer prices were very fair too. The little animal crackers they brought out at the end were a hit as well. All in all, a classic, fun, friendly kind of spot that we very much enjoyed.

Coastal Society in Saugatuck is an experience, to say the least. Remember, this is Saugatuck, not Chicago, but the cocktails are priced like we're in the Windy City--$17 each! At that price, you'd expect a little magic in every sip. The ambiance, however, has taken a turn for the Grey Gardens. The patio furniture seems to have seen better days, the plants have decided to call it quits, and the cobwebs suggest Halloween is celebrated year-round. It's a bit of a mystery what happened to this place--it used to be so lovely! On the bright side, the waitstaff is incredibly friendly, a beacon of warmth in an otherwise faded setting. And the cocktails, while not revolutionary, are decent enough. Coastal Society has charm, but it could use a good clean-up to get back to its former glory. read more

The BEST Hand-Crafted Cocktails in all of SW Michigan. A MUST go to when you're visiting Douglas-Saugatuck. It's located in a beautiful cottage style building on the corner of Center Street in Downtown Douglas, MI. They have two amazing outdoor patios for seating and dining. You can kick back and relax for hours sipping on drinks, shopping at their incredible boutique it's seriously the best thing that's happened to Douglas! Looking through it, I was thrilled to see quite an expansive cocktail list broken down by "chapters," as well as several small snack options clearly marked with a gluten-free (GF) label. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit disappointing once we tried to order. Despite the online hours stating the venue closes at 11:00pm our server informed us that the kitchen was already closed. There is no indication online of what time the kitchen closes, and it was incredibly disappointing to be handed a dedicated food menu by the hostess only to be told moments later we couldn't order anything. When I asked our server for recommendations and which specific cocktails were gluten-free, she mentioned she was new and had to go check. She returned about 10 minutes later, only to give a vague answer that "most drinks were gluten-free" without offering an actual recommendation or helpful suggestion. My husband ended up ordering a non-alcoholic drink, but between the kitchen confusion and the lackluster service, I opted not to get anything at all. It's a cool venue with a lot of potential, but they should put their kitchen hours online and better train their staff on the menu.

I wanted something fun, so I chose the Don the Beachcomber, a rum-based tiki cocktail that is flamed tableside. My friend got the Obstacle No. 1, which is a bourbon drink that they smoke at your table. Very theatrical and fun! These drinks were $20+ so pretty pricey, but worth it for a fun occasion. We had a nice time just relaxing and catching up. I would say it's not a great spot for a large group, but definitely a fun date night place. They have a small food menu of offerings from the restaurant next door that sounded tasty. We had just eaten but I'd be interested in their small plates. I'm so glad I got to experience this place. It feels like you're transported to a secret speakeasy when you enter!
