I really miss Walnut Grille, but still thoroughly enjoyed this new concept, Shiva's Kitchen! I came here recently for the first time when I heard that they were serving some of Walnut Grille's most beloved items. We started the meal with Gobi Manchurian, which was always a standout item and still very much is. I am obsessed with the tangy sauce in the perfectly crisp, well battered and fried cauliflower. We also got some pakoras, which were just as wonderful in taste and texture. The lentil soup was well seasoned and well spiced and very hearty. The dosa was a winner in its lovely flavor, but sadly lacked in not having enough filling. I also really enjoyed the yogi bowl in having very fresh and tasty veggies with wonderful sauces and a marinated tofu. The presentation was elegant. The restaurant itself had a great vibe and very little felt different from Walnut Grille. There are a variety of tables and booths to choose from. The service was friendly even though it was on the slower side. I was bummed they didn't have any vegan desserts available, despite it being listed on the menu. Parking is very easy in the attached lot behind the restaurant.

Saag Tofu

Earlier this year vegetarian restaurant Walnut Grille was renamed as Shiva's Kitchen, focused on serving Indian cuisine. No longer a fully vegetarian restaurant, but kept many of the same menu items, like my favorite, the Manchurian Gobi.  We were a bit reluctant to go back after mixed reviews on Happy Cow and the fact its no longer fully vegetarian. However, I am glad we went after seeing a review from local instagram Boston Herbivore. We ordered the Manchurian Gobi, Vegan Samosa, Tofu Saag and Tofu Madras. Everything came out piping hot, super fresh and delicious! Manchurian Gobi is crispy, sweet and a nice sweetness. Samosas are solid, super crispy, brimming with delicious filling. Tofu Saag was delicious! I loved the fresh ginger topping too. I had a bite of the Tofu Madras, super creamy from the coconut milk and a nice spice. Overall 10/10 for the vegan options  with so many options for appetizers, entrees, and desserts. A solid 7/10 for food! Everything was delicious! I think next time I will ask for more spice/heat. Food was milder to appeal to a wider audience. I will rate a bit lower, 5/10 for service since we waited 15 to 20 minutes to order and another 15 to pay. To be fair, a lot was going on! And most of the tables were full when we left. Two appetizers, two entrees came out to $67 with 20% tip, which I think is a reasonable price for dinner out! I would definitely come back for the options and fresh, healthy, delicious food! I also feel confident eating vegan here. My experience with most Indian restaurants is that they advertise vegan but then everything contains butter or ghee.

Been wanting to try this place per recommendation from a friend, and was not disappointed with the food taste. They were able to tone down the spiciness, and wife was able to enjoy the food. The samosa veggie was a bit spicy though. The place looks well decorated but was a bit on the hot side. Kid was complaining that he was too hot towards the end. The service is a bit lacking but they were a bit understaffed and busy. The 4 star is due to how good the basmati rice was. It is so good.

Chicken Madras

Unfortunately has to order out our meals, but I had Apps: BBQ Seitan + Chicken 65 (I enjoyed both, but prefer the Seitan) Meal: Chicken Madras (fantastic) garlic naan+ Chilly cilantro naan (both great, chilly a bit spicy if have no tolerance) Desert: Vegan Carrot Cake (perfect ending to meal)

Chicken Momos

This was our first time trying Shiva's Kitchen, and we were very happy with our meal. We ordered chicken momos, chicken tikka masala, and madras curry with paneer. The momos were very tasty, but the dipping sauces were just ok. The tikka masala and the madras curry were both delicious, and the basmati rice was very fresh and fluffy. The portion sizes are good, and I think it is slightly less expensive than the other Indian options in the area. The ambiance inside is nice, it was rather empty when we walked in but by the time we got our food it was very busy and a bit noisy. The servers were nice but noticeably understaffed- it took a little time to get the check and to-go containers for our leftovers. But overall we were happy with our experience and would definitely return.

Improved timing. Good food. I'm still paranoid about timing every time I go there, but I have indeed gone back.

Best Indian in metrowest. Fair warning the medium is a legit medium and not mild. As good as my favorite place in Quinzy.

My family and I was craving Indian food today and one of our Indian friends recommended this (new…read moreto us) place in Watertown (near/behind the Lexus dealership). It was convenient to get to with plenty of parking up front. Its about 5 minutes from Arsenal Yards. The restaurant looks pretty modern and trendy, with several tables on the side for dining in. I was promptly greeted upon entry with a smile. Picking up my takeout order was easy and quick. Food was packaged well and secure - important for this cuisine as you don't want to lose any of the sauces! The food portions are really good and pricing is pretty reasonable given the times, and pricing of similar restaurants in the area. More importantly, the quality and tastes of the food was exquisite! Good Indian food takes time and care in preparation to ensure the flavors are balanced with properly prepared ingredients. The texture of the meats and veggies were spot-on, with great balance in flavor. It wasn't overbearing and I think their flavors are flexible enough to cater to most palates. The chicken 65 was surprisingly not soggy, given this was take out. The butter chicken was so creamy with generous chicken pieces that were tender but not falling apart. The chicken tikka had great flavors and similarly well prepared chicken pieces. The garlic naan was actually flavorful, and is very evidently crafted onsite vs mass produced. The chicken biriyani was probably the standout dish. It was prepared with fluffy basmati rice with a great blend of spices (and color) and tender chicken pieces. I liked that the onions for some of the dishes were large cut and easily removed, as not everyone in the family likes onions. The only critique for the place is that there were no paper menus for old heads like myself that still prefers to look over it prior to ordering. Luckily, the online ordering experience was simple and straight forward. I created a Toast account in the process and hope it will be even easier going forward. You can even specify the spice level for most dishes. Overall, Chennai Eats is a wonderful addition to the local community. The place is clean, the food is tasty and a family could get full and happy without breaking the bank. I look forward to trying this place again, and exploring some of their other offerings. I'm also glad to have found a closer alternative to quality Indian food, vs going all the way out to Godavari.

Ghee Masala Dosa (7.5/10): Also my first time having dosas, so it's hard for me to judge how good they are relatively. Nonetheless, they were super tasty! I loved the ghee flavor. Texture was great. Masala filling was pretty good, but I think any other filling would have been fine as well. Chicken 65 (9.5/10): FANTASTIC. The chicken was oh so tender while also being fried to perfection. I have not had this kind of fried chicken from an Indian restaurant before. Flavors were also on point with just a hint of spicy. Butter Chicken (9/10): Delicious!! Great balance of flavors. Chicken was tender. Service was good. Prices are very fair, either average or below average. We'll definitely be back!!!

The restaurant offers a beautiful ambiance and you're warmly greeted by their wonderful team as you walk in. The menu boasts unique speciality dishes that you won't find in most places. The owner, Manju, curated a blend of flavors for me to try that paired perfectly together. This truly elevated my experience. I enjoyed every dish here. I had a difficult two days, but being here at Ssaanjh was healing. I embraced my time here and look forward to coming back with family, friends, or even myself. Thank you to the lovely team here, keep on rocking!

Saanjh presents itself as a fine dining Indian restaurant -- white tablecloths, elegant plating,…read moreand a chic, modern atmosphere -- and in that sense, they definitely deliver. The space is clean, stylish, and thoughtfully decorated, blending a chic Indian vibe with subtle Italian-inspired décor. It's a lovely setting, especially for date night or a more upscale dinner. That said, the food itself was... fine, but not standout. We spent about $60 on one appetizer, one shared entrée, and two pieces of naan, which feels a bit steep for what we got. I also left hungry. Highlights: The dahi puri was the star of the meal -- super refreshing, flavorful, and a perfect bite between richer dishes. The naan was well-seasoned, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside, and genuinely delicious. The butter chicken had a nice kick of spice but was otherwise surprisingly bland and lacked depth of flavor. If you've had a lot of Indian food (especially in the Cambridge area), this may fall a bit short. There are several nearby spots that offer more memorable flavors. If you're staying in or near Boston proper, Shanti in Dorchester and Sher-a-Punjab in Quincy are both stronger options. That said, Saanjh is very convenient for its location, which gives it an edge. Service: Service was quick, efficient, and genuinely warm. We had the pleasure of speaking with Saj (?) who was an absolute highlight of the experience. He was friendly, engaging, and went above and beyond -- even staying about 15 minutes past his break just to chat with us. He clearly cares about the guest experience and deserves serious recognition (and probably a raise!). Overall: Come here for the ambiance, service, and convenience. If exceptional Indian food is your top priority, there are better options nearby. Still, a pleasant experience overall, especially thanks to the great service.
