After looking for a place to eat, me and my wife stop at Shishkebab across from Lowe's in Evans. At first it didn't look like a place to eat, but after going on yelp looking for reviews of this place. After about 2 mins I seen some amazing photos of the food of this place so we sat down to eat. We both ordered the Gyro Wrap special for lunch and one lamb wrap to eat, after our food was ready. We ate and the flavors from the Gyro beef and lamb was amazing, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. Staff was super friendly! I love the option to sit on the floor. Restaurant was very clean. I had a falafel wrap which was filled with lots of falafel & vegetables. I added French fries for a side which were seasoned very well. My husband had a plate with meat, rice & pita which was delicious. All the food was very fresh & came out hot. Prices are good. Apparently they now have new owners. Some of the items that we loved have gone and they have moved to mostly typical kebab offerings rather than the rustic Turkish food they had there. The food we had was good but wasn't like the original owners. Also I was a little concerned to find them painting the outside of the building with customers cars parked next to it. Food was good. 3 adults and one child who ordered 3 gyro lunch specials one with drink and 1 child's plate. Child's plate didn't come with pita and child ordered rice received fries. The special stated that you either got gyro or chicken wrap and choice of side. We all got rice which none of us asked for and only 1 requested a salad and everyone got this. We had a plate of fries and 2 did request fries for the special. We paid $60 for 3 lunch specials and childs plate which is unexceptionable. Didn't say anything because kids were hungry and yes we also had a toddler but also didn't expect the bill we received that my spouse paid without me knowing the amount. Very disappointed. read more

Their menu has changed since I came last. They have a large menu that includes vegetarian options. My carnivore husband has always enjoyed all of their meat options, but now they have some vegetable focused entrees for me. I had the vegetable skewers for my entree and shared falafels as an appetizer. We enjoyed our visit and the service was prompt. Have been to this restaurant before and it was ok but resently heard it was bought out by someone new and that it was good. So I went to try it out. I love a good Gyro. WOW! It was great! We have been back a half dozen times now and it's always been consistent. We have tried some new things like Alexander the Great and it was just that, GREAT but not as great as the Feta Puta Fries that I could eat my weight in. I'm giving this place a 5 star. The food here is really good, the service is quick and friendly. It is a little bit more then some similar restaurants in the area, but like $2 more per meal, not $20. If you like Laziza's and have not tried here, I highly recommend it! This place is great all around and you can tell based on how busy it stays. I've had (and loved and would recommend) their shepherds platter but for lighter fare you can't go wrong with their wraps. We went in based just on the name- I was expecting it to be Greek food but it is Turkish food. I have never had Turkish food but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it! The lentil soup was nothing like I was expecting- first off the lentils are blended and the soup is a purée and it is SPICY which was delicious just very different, so be prepared for that! We tried the gyro lamb, chicken kabob, and spicy chicken kabob and they were all fantastic. The spicy chicken is very deep burn spicy - I never knew the amazing spice profiles that Turkish food has. Very nice interior of the restaurant - you can eat at a diner-style seating area or in a more traditional style seated on cushions at a low table. Was hoping to get a good gyro and I wasn't disappointed: nice portion of meat with good complimentary flavors. Only drawback was price: for a takeout gyro and rice ($1 upcharge for added feta) the dinner price was $11.86. Sounds like the lunch special is the way to go for this restaurant. Great lunch option in Evans - Shishkebab offers a refreshing change of pace from the typical fast food options along Washington Road. We've popped in for lunch several times now and have nothing but positive feedback. There's nothing fancy about this place - which is just what I prefer. There are seating options that can accommodate two people or a much larger group, the menus are bound in plastic and the decor is simple...but they seat you quickly, the food is excellent and the service is with a smile. That's the essence of hospitality, right there. On this visit, as on every visit, I had the baba ganoush. I LOVE baba ganoush and Shishkebab serves it with pita wedges and a fresh bit of salad on the side. The flavor is creamy and smoky and I could (and did!) literally eat it with a spoon. For mains, hubby had the falafel platter and it was terrific. I had to sample one of the falafels and found it perfectly prepared: moist and flavorful on the inside with a satisfying crunch on the outside. I opted for the shepherd's salad - tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, onions, and fresh herbs tossed in sumak, olive oil, fresh lemon juice and pomegranate sauce, served with pita. It was just right for a hot summer day's lunch. Shishkebab's pricing is reasonable for lunch and the food is much fresher and better than driving through a burger joint. My husband got take out from here today. I'm super careful about middle eastern food. I have been to places who claimed to serve middle eastern/Lebanese good and turned out not good. Shishkabab was amazing. Now let me tell you, I stopped eating Baba Ghanoush as no one made it right. Their Baba Ghanoush is yummmm. Chargrilled for sure. Chicken and lamb kebab were so damn delicious. A tad spicy but just mouthwatering. I loved spinach pastry. My only complain is about rice. Oh wow, this is genuinely a "WOOHOO" kind of place when it comes to gyros and baklava. I've had a terrible hankering for gyros, lamb of any sort and rice but the other place in town (with a 5 star rating) let me down so much I shied away from the competition. I'm so happy we spun the roulette wheel and ended up with Shishkebab otherwise I may have never discovered this place at all. The owner was really lovely, honest and forthcoming with how tough business could be at times. He took a lot of pride in describing the food, making recommendations and damn near gloated about how terrific his baklava. And he was darn right about the baklava. It's the best I've ever had in about 20 years! We ordered two doner plates and they couldn't be more authentic. There's a spit in the kitchen where you can see your meat twirling and sizzling, filling the restaurant with that delicious smell. I could tell by the delicious curl of the meat that this place was legit. The tzatziki sauce here tastes so light and fresh but I wish the hot sauce was hotter. The portions were huge, the pickled cabbage salad was right on par with what I'm familiar with and the baklava rounded out a terrific meal. Oh my gosh, the baklava. The layer of nuts had just enough honey to make it stick to the many layers of filo dough underneath. There wasn't too much honey or too little and the pistachio rounded it all out perfectly. Quick answer - Try this place out. This is a very cute family restaurant in Evans. It was packed on the night I went and I still got pretty good service. We ordered the Dolma, it was pretty good. It had a lemon sauce that was unexpected. I have had this before in Turkey, only this time it was a meatless dish. My little girl had the apricot juice and she love it. It had a tartness but it was delicious. I ordered the Döner kebab (literally "rotating roast"). This is a Turkish dish made of lamb meat (mainly) cooked on a vertical spit and sliced off to order and served with bread for wrapping and with salad and a dressing of yogurt with ingredients like garlic, cucumber, and fresh herbs. It was wonderful, the gyro meat was tender and browned the way it is should be, it was also seasoned so well I didn't need anything to cover it. I did think that the sauce could have been a bit better. We also had an order of the Beyti Kebab. The is a lamb dish. The lamb is seasoned, grilled on a skewer and served wrapped in lavash and topped with tomato sauce and yogurt. Delicious, after we were full we peeled back the lavash and just ate the lamb. We all loved this lamb, it was perfect texture and seasoned so well. Even my daughter loved the lamb. A must try. We finished off our meal with the Turkish Coffee. Another yelper called it liquid crack. It was full of flavor, just what I expected. It leaves a sludge in the bottom of the cup. We ate our delicious chocolate squares that are served with the coffee and we vibrated on to finish shopping. Over all, it was a wonderful experience. The food is good. Try the doner kebab! The lamb kekab is also tasty. This is one of the few halal meat places in the Aiken Augusta area. The restaurant almost has a diner feel. Grill in the back. You see all the cooks making the food. The servers are pretty quick in serving you. There is a lot of things on the menu. So choose wisely! I had the lamb kebab with rice. The rice was good and I liked the flavor. I wasn't a fan of the salad that came with it-- just not to my taste. Lamb was good. My friend got the doner kebab. I think I should've gotten that... The humus appetizer was very bland, but the main meal was very good, as well as the Baklava. Our waitress provided good service, but she seemed miserable as if she wished to be anywhere but her job. Food portions are humongous; but, not in a good way. I would recommend ordering one plate for every two people. If you order a meal for yourself, you can try to take food home and re-heat, but it does not hold up well. Essentially, you wind up wasting food and money. They also charge you extra for everything. If you want more flatbread, expect to pay for it. If you want more of the yogurt sauce that comes in a small 1oz container for your 1lb gyro, expect to pay for that too.
