Our family group of 7 went out for dinner at Shiraz on 7/26/26. It was our first time there and it looked pretty fancy in spite of small TV's installed close to the ceilings. We got a table quickly. However, everything else in this restaurant seemed to take a very long time even though the restaurant was pretty empty. It took an exceptionally long time for the waiter to take our orders. We sat with empty glasses until dinner arrived since no one came to fill our glasses (this was in spite of us asking about 5 times for water). We had to repeatedly ask for the water to be refilled. It took a while to be served. The waiter brought a pre-meal nibble to the table, which was nice, but it was tiny and not nearly enough for 7 adults to sample. When my glass of water spilled on the floor, none of the workers or the waiter even noticed and the water remained on the floor through out the meal. The food was plentiful but not great. When we wanted to take our left overs, the waiter brought over 7 containers and 7 plastic bags for us to assemble and bag ourselves. We were surprised to see that at a fine dining restaurant. I think that since the Shiraz waiters know they are getting a 20% tip no matter what, they don't have to go above and beyond. The food was 'ok'. But that's the least of your worries if considering this restaurant. We arrived at 1pm on Sunday, menu clearly has a lunch price and a dinner price for most of the entrees ($25 vs $45 for most dishes). When we got our bill, we were charged for dinner servings. When we questioned, the owner said you had big portions. We said we know, we didn't realize that wasn't 'lunch'. But it gets worse, they also added a 20% service fee for 4 people! My Dad wanted to order the sea bass but the waiter told him he was better off trying to order another fish as the sea bass was frozen. The risk of having food delivered is having it arrive cool and overdone--not here: the chicken and salmon were both warm and tender, aromatic and divine. We ordered the Israeli salad unaware that 2 salads came with our entrees. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with Shiraz. For a Persian restaurant in Great Neck, I expected better. My family held a private party here so everything was served family style. Some dishes were good, others less so. My favorite was the falafel. Delicious. Perfectly cooked. The meats were good too. The white rice was overly dry, but the spinach rice was good. Hummus was fine, salad was fine, and I liked the dolma. Here's the thing, we were supposed to have open bar. 1. Not once did anyone come to take our drink orders. 2. The bartender wasn't there and no one knew how to make any mixed drinks. Don't charge open bar prices if we can get mixed drinks! That wasn't right. That said, the staff was friendly. We had this event rescheduled due to covid and they were good about a last minute change of plans. Was excited to eat here & took an Uber just for that purpose. When I arrived, only one table of patrons and many grub hub bags ready to be B picked up. The guy at the front talked in a phone for over 5 minutes without any greeting or getting another worker. Finally another employee came, checked his watch and said, 'I guess we can seat you.' He told me to pick my table. So I grabbed menu myself and sat at the table waiting for someone to come. As it occurred, I was looking out the window at a pizza joint. Yogurt sauce that tasted like it came straight out of a jar of tartar sauce with some herbs added. do yourself a favor and skip it. Service is trash, staff is clueless and rude. Amazing portions. Incredibly friendly staff. The Saffron Chicken Kabob entree is the best thing I've had in the area. The chicken is ridiculously juicy and grilled/charred to perfection. The rice feels so soft in your mouth, it's almost like eating velvet. It balances out the strong and bold flavors of the chicken perfectly. As funny as this may sound, the real MVP of the dish is the roasted tomato. Delicious juiciness. The first time I went, the owner was kind enough to gift us an order of homemade Saffron Ice Cream. I ordered Baklava on top of that and it was so good that I had to buy half a pound to bring home to my family. Every single one of their appetizers are delectable, with the Hummus dip being my favorite. I've been there twice now, but am not opposed to return in the near future. read more

Take it from a real Iranian. Shiraz's food is legit. The price is right for the portions you get. Service is professional and quick. They make you feel like you're eating with family. In fact, the manager frequently goes around to greet everyone and make sure everything is good. I recommend the barg, joojeh, koobideh, and all the stews, especially the ghormeh sabzi and fesenjan. You also can't go wrong with the Moroccan cigars, Olivieh salad, dolmeh, bademjoon, and Shirazi salad. Come here hungry. In fact, always go to an Iranian restaurant hungry. I did a to-go order for my first and only time eating here. The food here has no taste and I would never order here again. My real issue with this place is that they gave me some random appetizer instead of the falafel I ordered. I cannot eat gluten so if I ate that random appetizer listed as falafel (BECAUSE THEY WERE OUT AND NOBODY NOTIFIED ME - this was no an accident) I could have gone to the hospital. Thankfully I had enough sense to realize and called the owner. He apologized for his careless staff's mistake and then told me to call tomorrow to get my money back for the food. I called the next day and left a message, no call back and then again the day after, no call back again. They do not throw away old food and do the recycling game to save $$$.
