Superb donuts! These donuts remind me of my favorite donut shop on the east coast (Montgomery Donuts) which is almost in extinction due to unknown reasons. Anyway, these babies are rich and come in all different flavours imaginable. Although I'm not a big donut person, but every now and then I feel like cramming several into my belly. Shipley's are nice, fluffy, delicious. But my review isn't really for the donut itself. I'm more of a customer service kinda girl. And all I can say is that if the lines are long, the owner Steve comes out to take the orders so the wait is cut. Some early morning customers aren't very cheerful, but Steve does his best to change their mood. Plus he's always there and smiling. Uber props to him for donating lots of donuts countless times to all the different organizations that we volunteer for. As a lover of doughnuts, going to Shipley's always gets my mouth watering. The doughnuts are warm and sweet, always fresh, and the staff is friendly and quick to take my order, and the best part is the price! You definitely get what you pay for. Every time I go here, I get the vanilla cappuccino it's really yummy. It truly does make my heart smile:).. (the only reason for the 3stars o and the customer service is pretty good. Slow but they're nice most of the time).. today I decided to spice things up a bit (you know since it's Valentine's Day and all) lol so I get a coffee instead. Lol I get to my next destination and finally get to taste it. And it was gross!! I take it back and the supervisor (I think his name was Andy I'm not for certain) anyway, he says can I help you? And I say, I'm not a fan of the coffee and he responds saying, you said it was nasty I said yes, maybe I'm just use to the cappuccinos and he says, "well we brew it every morning." (As if I care about when it's brewed, it's still nasty) I then ask if I can have my usual vanilla cappuccino and a chocolate glaze donut for the inconvenience. He laughed in my face and said "I'll exchange the coffee but I'm charging you for the donut." I said "it's okay I'll just take my money back." Now granted it's at the restaurants disposal if they want to give something out for an inconvenience; but I felt like since I patiently waited in that terribly long line twice he would have been a bit more nicer and gave me a donut lol or at bare minimum apologized for the inconvenience. Nevertheless, it's no wonder the customer service is only good "most of the time" look at the head of the company and how he treats customers. read more

Grew up on these while living in Houston and hands down these are the best donuts ever, anywhere. When Krispy Kream opened in NYC I never understood why it generated so much hype since Shipley's was 1000 times better and they made donuts the right way, airy and hot all the time. I can't decide if I like the donuts or the kolaches the best, so I'll just say that they're both excellent. I was a Krispy Kreme fan all these years, but now that I've had Shipley's a few times, I'm hooked. There are so many different types to choose from, it'll take forever for me to try them all. Fresh food, friendly service, and fair prices. My kids and I enjoy watching the cooks work, and apparently we're not the only ones, because there's always a crowd watching through the glass. I wish there was more room around the corner of the drive thru, but that's not enough to drop a star. I'll definitely be back, regardless of what it might do to my pants size. read more

Too bad I can't rate this place less than one star. I can't write a review based on the quality or freshness of the product here. Unfortunately, they close at 4:00 p.m. This seems like an odd time to close, but they're entitled to set their hours. I don't have a quarrel with the hours. I do however, have a problem with the way they went about closing for the day today (8/1/11). We were approximately three steps away from the door, and saw somebody practically run to the door, turn a key, spin around and run away. I understand business hours can be strict (I work in a retail business), but this person (manager, I assume) doesn't possess the customer service skills to properly perform the duties of his position. He could have opened the door and let us know they had just closed. At the very least, he could have looked us in the eye and mouthed the words and pointed at the hours sign. No, he didn't have the nerve for that. He couldn't even look us in the eye. Matter of fact, he did everything possible to not see us as he ran away from the door. Congratulations, sir. You just lost three customers for life. I should thank you. River City Donuts on William Cannon is closer to our house, and we gave them a try. Here's the deal, for the longest time I didn't think there were any Shipley Donut shops in Austin. Then, I found this one! And then my new job in north Austin ended up being right down the road from the one up north off Parmer! Still, why are they only either far South or far North? My morning staple from them are the ham & cheese kolaches. They're always fresh and soft, and so sooooo good! Their donuts are great when warm, and even when I have leftovers that have gotten cold, they're still good! If you haven't checked them out, do it tomorrow morning. read more

I was so excited when I moved to Austin last summer that a Shipley's was close by. And they didn't disappoint. It seems that no matter how many different donut shops I try, I always come running back to Shipley's. I'm a fan of the plain glazed variety with its melt in your mouth sugary goodness. I live dangerously close to this place and they never fail me. They have the fastest service, even on a busy Saturday morning when the line of cars starts to go out in the street. I have frequented this place since it first opened on Brodie (years ago)and usually stop in for kolaches and donuts at least once a week. Everything is fast and fresh. This Shipley's has more employees than most donut shops which helps to keep the lines moving... so don't be intimidated by the line. They set the bar very high for quality, customer service, and taste! With that said, the only thing that could be better... I hate that donuts are put sideways in what should be a kolache or donut hole box only and smashed all together... it is a strategy that works when donuts are cold and set, but these donuts are always warm and fresh... so you end up with a lot iced tops and bottoms... a flat boxes would be SO much better! Obviously, this won't keep me away, I just have to cut the bottom of the white with sprinkles off because my 10 year old hates the chocolate with sprinkles that is all over the bottom of it. read more

I show up usually around 2:00pm and they never have any chocolate glaze frosted donuts. But yet they don't close to 6:00pm. Great place! It's convenient for us, and we have always been treated well by the staff whether going through the drive thru or inside. An employee even took the time to run back in the store for me to get napkins so I didn't have to get my kids out of their carseats! That was customer service! I was not impressed at all! My donut was stale. My boyfriend ordered glazed donut holes because they were out of glazed donuts.
