If you're looking for one of the best coffee shops in Austin, Praxis Coffee (South) is absolutely worth the drive. I happily drive over 25 minutes just to get my coffee here, and I'd do it again without hesitation. Everything is made with so much care. They roast their own coffee beans in-house, and you can truly taste the difference. Their espresso is incredibly smooth never bitter, never burnt, just consistently excellent. My personal favorite is the Honey Lavender Latte, but their matcha is hands down the best I've had anywhere in Austin. They also make their own syrups from scratch, and their house chai is unlike any other fresh, balanced, and full of flavor. I also love that you can buy their freshly roasted beans to take home, have them delivered, or even sign up for a coffee subscription. It's such a great way to enjoy their coffee even when you can't make it into the shop. The baristas are always genuinely kind, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. Every visit feels personal, and the atmosphere is warm without trying too hard. They even host coffee classes, which is such a fun way to learn more about the craft behind every cup. Praxis may be a little hidden, but that's part of its charm. Coffee was great while I'm not a local it does seem that they have a great relationship with their repeat customers. I did get a pastry and I'm not sure if they don't warm them up but I wasn't asked if I wanted it warmed, but thank goodness we live in Texas and I can just put it on the dash while I drive to my next destination and it will warm up. They do have a small set of chairs to sit and wait or finish your coffee. I will definitely be back in the area. read more

They have a variety of coffee, beans to buy, and homemade breakfast tacos with salsa which were to die for! I had a latte with one of the seasonal syrups and it was incredible. One of the 2 best coffee shops in Austin. The women that run this Praxis location are real friendly and brew a great cup of Joe. I ordered an Americano the other day, and it was nice and smooth with a bit of fruitiness (I think the beans were from Ethiopia). No major bitter or sour notes. My girlfriend ordered the cappuccino & it had just the right amount of coffee flavor, complimented by the creaminess of the whole milk. Very well executed. They don't have much seating right at the truck, but it's right next to a bigger park with ample seating right next to Lustre Pearl South. On game days there's actually a huge TV out back! read more

Quick shoutout to my favorite coffee"shop" in deep south. It's a cute trailer parked out front of Lustre Pearl with some seating and shade. Being connected to the Pearl means you've got room to spread out and let the kids run in the back before it transitions into a bar scene (although I've never been there late) Most importantly the espresso drinks are fantastic and they'll even serve them in a proper ceramic cup despite the small size of the establishment. Can't go wrong with a cappuccino or cortado. And their cherry turnovers are flaky and sweet. The people are friendly too. So if you're tired of the Starbucks on Slaughter trust me, you deserve better, and you'll find it here. 5 stars. read more

I love Praxis coffee but they make it very hard to support them as a business. My last two orders I picked up were either not in stock and my last order I get home and realized they gave me the wrong product. I order from Texas Coffee Traders all the time with no issue. I've also tried to pick up whatever they have available at the East location but they always grind it so finely it's unusable in my machine and have to throw it out. I've tried shipping an order which never arrived. I would rather get coffee from them than anywhere in Austin but driving all the way down to Menchaca and not knowing if I'll actually get what I ordered is too frustrating. read more

We've visited twice now a week apart. Both on Saturday morning around 10:30. We ordered online both times and I arrived at the window at the time they quoted (15 minutes). First, the coffee we've tried was very good. Great preparation and flavor. I wish there were options for a little larger size, especially on the iced coffees. It's only 12 ounces. Price is in line with other small coffee shops. On the first visit, it was about a 10 minute wait. On the second visit the 3 drinks were ready. They have breakfast tacos, too, but you cannot order them online. I got the last bean and cheese on the first visit and it was very good. Yesterday, I got a bean and cheese and a Migas taco. They were both so hot I could not hold them wrapped in their foil. The migas taco must have been directly against the heating element because one side was toasted and stuck to the foil. The tortilla was too tough to comfortably chew. The best thing about the location is the outdoor seating at Lustre South. Great place to take the dogs and relax. read more

I have been buying a 5lb bag of beans from them every month or two for at least two years now. They have the best coffee around and are super nice. I really like the flavors they get out of their roasts. The 5lb bag I always get is a naturally processed from Ethiopia and its a great everyday coffee. BUT the anaerobic coffee is where its at - its so much more berry flavored and really something special. I have never put anything in their coffee - just water and an aeropress. There is no bitterness its just perfect as is. I moved to Florida and I still order their coffee online and I probably will do this forever if I can. read more

I always make sure to grab a coffee to go and a bag of beans to have at the ready for my house when I visit the coffee truck. The location is wonderful and pet friendly as well. I think it's awesome that when one purchase a bag of beans, you receive a free drip coffee with the purchase. Got to Praxis food truck little too early 7:50a and had to wait bc this coffee truck doesn't open till 8am. Which automatically makes me wonder if I should even try them being that they would never be open early enough to buy a cup from them, work starts at 8a for the majority of the working class. I gave it try anyways. They don't sell food, only jo, but there is a taco truck right next to them with killer bacon breakfast tacos. Praxis barista got there at 8.02a, and I sat waiting till 8.10a, wasn't till another person walked up to closed window before he opened the window and rook her order. Was a little put off that he didn't open the window earlier but it probably has more to do with the fact I hadn't had breakfast or coffee yet. I ordered two Honey Lavender Lattes, one 1/2 caff with oat milk and one made normal with whole milk. The order took over 10 minutes to make and had my breakfast tacos ordered and done before the coffee. Wasn't till 8.25a that I finally got outta there. Just off pure quickness I am persuaded not to return. The location is a bit off putting, not bc its right next to a quickie mart but the parking area was dirty, trash on ground, and vagrants about. There were legit two guys just standing and drinking before 8am 30ft away. I mean 7pm okay I get it, live and let live, but 7-8am downing tall boys and mean grilling anyone near by is NOT cool while waiting for coffee. I recommend the owner literally tell these people to leave, or I will not come back much less recommend it to anyone out of pure concern for safety. Who knows maybe Austin vagrants aren't the yelly, scary, stabby kind Im used to from South Florida. The Honey Lavender Lattes were lightly flovored, lightly sweetened (couldn't taste the honey). The consistency was on the viscous side. More dilluted than expected, but I've never had Praxis before,maybe thats perfectly done to them. I liked it but was not wowed by flavors. The Honey Lavender Latte plays it safe not being too hot, too heavey, too thick, too floral, too spiced. In my opinion it is too dilluted and the honey should be pronounced especially if the word honey is put first in the name of the drink. At $5 it is small, seemed 8ounces in a 12 oz cup with foam to the top. Not sure if 1/2 caff is per dillution or bean type or espressoed differently, interested to know though, and how it changes the flavor from a typical latte. The whole milk latte tasted a bit stronger flavor forward. The barista was niether rude nor polite. Straight coffee, pure mechanical business exchange, nothing of interest to me nor was I to him. Pure business. And bam, order done, little plastic window cover shut. There is a small comfy looking covered sitting area but I was too worried of being harassed by vagrants to stay. I read the website and was impressed by the love the owner has for the science of balancing a bean and its accoutrements. The specific pick of bean, type and method of roasting, process of extraction. I can see and taste the effort. I do want to come back but think I'll order to-go or delivered in the future. read more

Amazing coffee here. I just moved to the area and tried out Praxis for a Breve Cortado. The espresso is perfect (for me) it isn't too acrid, it's very smooth and rich and they made the Cortado perfectly wet. Very good. After sampling one other highly rated coffee shop that didn't even approach the level of intention and craft put into Praxis coffee, I went right back to Praxis for more: a cappuccino and a chai latte. The cappuccino was perfect, again the espresso was delicious. They made it breve for me and it was perfectly wet. The chai latte is the best one I've had in town, the foam was wet and the air bubbles were really fine. The flavor is amazing, they hand grind fresh ginger!! Get your coffee here. read more

I haven't a clue as how I want to start this review or how I want to even finish it. I'll just be straight forward. Praxis definitely set a new standard in coffee for me. The roast was so amazing I couldn't even fathom how amazing the taste itself was. Now I did add some oak milk into my latte but nonetheless can I nor will I discredit the taste of the beans this coffee had. Pure gold was what I stepped into when I stumbled across this tiny coffee truck. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area or visiting! Please stop by and get yourself a cup of coffee from Praxis! The barista (Shame I didn't get his name) was extremely friendly, welcoming and made the experience just 10X better than what it already was. I've frequented most of the "best" coffee shops in Austin, but had not made it to Praxis until today. I ordered a pour-over from their Panamanian selection plus a honey lavender latte. I also requested a hot chocolate for my son, which Praxis kindly obliged even though it wasn't on the menu. All three drinks were outstanding! I've enjoyed some sublime coffees from all over the world, from Austria to Australia, and I can say the pour-over was among the top 5% of black coffees I've ever had. The service and accommodations were first-class and much appreciated. I'll certainly be going back to Praxis and recommending them to my coffee-loving friends. There is not an abundance of quality coffee in the Slaughter/Menchaca area, sadly. This little truck is a shining exception. Everything I've had thus far has been amazing, especially the dirty chai (my favorite and hard to find one not overly sweet yet still full of hearty spice.) Baristas are always pleasant.
