Ordering station
Juliet K.

Grandma took us out for lunch today. Very casual but large dining room. Order At computer stations and pick a table. Food is brought out in disposable plastic containers by polite and friendly staff. They brought us water as well. Food ingredients are fresh and good quality. Scallion pancakes were nice and crispy. The little round dumplings were tender and tasty. Fried rice was delicately flavored as was the tofu lo mein. The bulgogi had a nice balance of vegetables to beef. The one item we ordered that I couldn't eat was the hand pulled noodles in hot and sour soup. It had too much chili oil for my European American mouth to handle! If you can't handle the heat maybe avoid this one dish. By far the pho is one of the best I've eaten. The broth is incredible. I want to try the rougamo next time I'm in. I'll update then.

The food here was sooo good and flavorful. Definitely come here if you love spicy food. The noodles are very fresh and there's a lot to chose from. The restaurant itself is casual so it is a great spot to grab quick lunch a dinner.

Authentic delicious Chinese food! The pork stew rougamo and cumin lamb were my favorite dishes. I have searched long and hard for cumin lamb in the Boston area, and this is the first place I've found! Their prices are also very reasonable for the quality of food. All of the dishes had great flavors and good size portions.

Delicious lunch special delivered with Sesame chicken, white rice, Veggie gyoza, California roll, and Miso soup.

We like to go to Shine's for their lunch specials. If there isn't parking out front there is a large lot behind the buildings across the street. The staff is friendly and usually very efficient. For the lunch specials the main dishes are pretty good and the extra sides bring the whole meal up a notch.

Liang Pi in chili oil with a side of sesame sauce

Ordered the liang pi with chili oil and sesame sauce after having had biang biang noodles here before. Just the fact that I can get liang pi in this sleepy town of Belmont is exciting! Happy to report that the noodles are delicious, and they give a generous amount of food. The chili oil was nicely seasoned, just enough salt and spice, and the sesame sauce was delicious. The noodles were chewy, had a nice mouth feel, and paired well with the wheat gluten chunks and sliced cucumber. Note- this northern Chinese menu is part of the Chinese chain Xi'an Rougamo, which is housed inside Shines. They have a second location in downtown Boston... how lucky we are to be able to get this northern Chinese specialty in Belmont!!

Spicy tuna roll and eel with avocado

Tucked in the corner of the popular Leonard Street, Shine's really shines (yes, I went there). Walking in you are welcomed by an extremely friendly staff and escorted to the limited but spacious seating area. The exposed brick with the modern art really spices the interior up. Bubble tea...oh the bubble tea! It comes in so many flavors ranging from milk teas to smoothies. Boba is just .50 more. There is nothing I enjoy more than a sweet bubble tea while waiting for my sushi to be served, however with Shine's there really is no waiting! No matter how busy it is, service is extremely prompt and food is brought out within 10-15 minutes of ordering it. Prices are pretty normal. The menu can be pretty overwhelming, however most of the rolls actually have pictures next to them. It makes the ordering experience much easier and a bit more fun. Highly recommend!

Not sure what I missed. The general tsou was certainly not fresh. Pad Thai was not flavorful. Gyozas were fine. May give them one more shot.

mind-bogglingly good food hidden as a local Belmont hip-takeout spot. Very helpful around, and accommodating of, a vegan diet.

I'm honestly glad that I waited to post my original review with a lower rating and thought through…read morethe experience a little bit more. As always, I find it a bit harder to review fusion spots. Not just any fusion either, but one that is all over the world map. It's easy to just nitpick one dish and use it to judge everything else; but what about that is remotely fair? For example, their Beef Rendang (a dish that I'm very familiar with - including the different regional renditions) is more like a hint towards what "real" Beef Rendang is. I don't even need to speak on behalf of the Filipinos regarding their adobo (which I also grew up on) who are infamous to show up on public forums to criticize and say "that's not how my grandmother makes it" (lol). What did come to mind is the old quote that many often find negative but actually was meant to be a positive phrase (if the last part isn't so often omitted). "Jack of all trades, master of none, though often times better than a master of one". That definitely applies here with their style of food. There's a lot going on and a good portal to the true potential of each dish. Definitely give them a try! Portions are good and the food is definitely tasty!

Since I was biking around Watertown and was already familiar with the place, I decided to stop by for dinner. I actually ordered in advance and picked up when I arrived, so I didn't have too much interaction with the staff. The restaurant was fairly small, but there was seating available. I ordered the Spicy Pork Jjigae (Seasonal Special), which I don't think I'd order again. It was pretty tasty, but a bit too oily, and didn't include vegetables. Next time, I'd go with something that feels a bit healthier.

In fact, ever since the other Chinese spot changed ownership, I entirely switched to eating here whenever I want a quick sit down Chinese meal. The food is good. It comes out pretty fast. It's done pretty well. And the best part, it just doesn't remotely hurt the wallet. Even being a regular, I'm still amused at how the service is so stereotypical Chinese in the way that I'm just another soul coming in to be fed and not remembered or acknowledged. Mind you, I'm here a LOT and am usually the only one sitting there eating while delivery people repeatedly come and go. Anyways, two reasons why I'm unable to give them 5 stars. First, the tap water they serve...tastes like @#$%. I don't know what it is but I've actually started bringing my own water bottle (or just ordered a soda). Two, the steamed rice is inconsistent. Half the time, it's perfect. The other half...is wet and mushy (I want to say a reheat but isn't that just such a faux pax in Chinese cuisine?). Nonetheless, this is one of the few four and less starred places on my list that I will still continue to frequent and recommend to anyone in the area wanting a quick and decent meal for cheap!

Oh well regular price a lot higher than lunch special price . Add on 2.00 for white rice as no rice with the dish? The shredded dish was good flavors and would order again. I don't see returning... prices high I'll go next door to Home Taste again

For $17.95, getting 3 rolls of sushi isn't a bad deal, so I'm giving this a 4/5. The combo comes with a spicy tuna roll, a california roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Spicy Tuna Roll: This was pretty disappointing. I really love spicy tuna rolls that have the minced tuna, spicy mayo, and tempura flakes all mixed together, but this was not that. This roll was a tuna cucumber roll with spicy mayo drizzled on top. With that, the spicy mayo was really overpowering and I couldn't taste the tuna at all. I'd prefer the normal tempura and mayo taste or just a tuna and cucumber, but doing it this way wasn't my favorite. California Roll: This was not bad - the imitation crab was big and plump and there was fish roe inside of the roll instead of on the outside which made it have a better texture in my opinion. The avocado was fresh and these bites were pretty enjoyable. Salmon Avocado Roll - This was the best roll of the 3 - the salmon tasted good and the avocado was fresh again. In all 3 rolls, the rice was a little dense, but at least it was a very filling 3 rolls for a good price point. 4/5!

Two weekend visits to this relatively new subterranean Sichuan eatery in Harvard Square (Eliot…read moreStreet) with a very inviting interior and some VERY spicy dishes. -- Vegetarian Cold Noodle: Firm, peanut buttery, satisfying. Not spicy. Not too saucy, so you can "feel" the noodle, but I would have liked more vegetables. -- Yibin Fiery Noodles: Warm and similarly al dente, these were manageably spicy. Meat crumble, seeds or nuts, scallions, and heat. -- Red and Green Pepper Chicken: Batterless but crisp, tender, and not boneless. Relentlessly spicy from several heat sources and kaleidoscopically delicious. The closest comparison is dry hot chicken that also goes by a few other names, but this was better. Elite, and the best thing I ate in all of 2025, but sadly no longer on the menu. -- Stone Pot Tofu: Billed as Ma Po Tofu sizzling in a stone pot, but no sizzle and no stone pot. Identified as very spicy but minimally spicy and more numbing (more "ma" than "la"). I enjoyed the overall flavor (heavily seasoned) and the saltiness of the fermented black beans. Despite some of the menu discrepancies, this was a really good version for my tastes. Near-elite. -- Green Beans With Eggplant: Strong flavor, not too hot spicewise, but volcanically hot temperaturewise. Decent. -- Chicken and Clams: Black bean flavor, whole peppercorns, spicy but loaded with flavor beyond the spice. A deceptively huge and quite delicious. Elite. -- Beef Spring Rolls: Not my choice. Crisp, beefy, and chili sauce on the side added contrast. Solid, but boring, more typical of an Americanized offering, and a waste of an opportunity given Too Hot's killer menu. -- Pork Belly with Fermented Beans: Superb rendition, not drastically different from twice cooked pork, but much more flavor and giant pieces. Near-elite to Elite. -- Shrimp in Dry Hot Pot: Tons of dry rub spiciness, giant shrimp, chopped vegetables, and crinkle cut potatoes. Near-elite. -- Brussels Sprouts w/Shallots: More subtle flavors here but hardly bland. Fried shallots had sort of an onion ringy presence in miniature. Cooked just right. Outstanding overall experience, with the best dish on the first visit and almost all winners on the second. Kudos to the friendly and helpful service, including a server suggestion to switch an item after noticing we ordered two very similar items. Eager to return often and try even more of the menu.

Overall, a solid restaurant and option for Chinese food in Harvard Square.

There was a great singer, pianist, and sax player to really set the mood. They were super fun, especially when a couple got engaged! To start, I got their ginger martini and while my friend went with a Do-er neat (not a whiskey drinker myself, lol). He tried to order 2 of their beers but they were out of both. My drink came after 15 mins and then we had to remind the waiter about his whiskey. That took another 10. We started with the chicken bao buns and the samosas. Both spectacular! My only complaint is the little size for the samosa size. For our mains we got the short rib and the white butter chicken. The butter chicken could've used a bit more chicken for the price and was frankly a bit tough. The sauce was great. The short rib was flavorful and packed the perfect punch. Dipping the garlic naan in both sauces was my fav part!! Overall an ok experience. I want to give the restaurant grace because it was very packed but service was poor. I think we had 4 different staff members help us total which probably led to lots of miscommunication.
