Our car broke down on the highway, and AAA towed us to Shimon's. After determining the issue, Kumal walked us through our options for repairs, from least expensive and comprehensive to most. We realized that repairs would cost more than the car was worth. Shimon's stored our car overnight for free while we slept on what to do. Kumal connected us with a salvage company that offered us a fair price for the junk car. Also, they only charged us half the cost of the labor they performed. I called that morning asking if they could remove a nail from my tire, and repair the tire; we settled on a time for that afternoon. They were on time, and they apparently completed the job 30 minutes later. But they appeared to take advantage of me, charging me $40 for a tire repair! Took my car right in for inspection as soon as I in the front door. MA also requires the front plate to be centered - the dealer installed the plate offset because GTIs only have the offset pins - and they centered it for me. Old country feel to the garage and everyone was friendly for a busy Saturday morning. Will definitely come here again. read more

These gentlemen and the level of care that they bring to the job is truly rare. I got in an accident and needed $3k worth of repairs. Without batting an eye they let me take my car weeks before the sluggish insurance payment came in. The car is in better shape than it was before my accident and don't have to worry about a single thing. Incredibly friendly service, they clearly care not just about the car but about how the experience of having my car in the shop would effect my schedule. I'm going to renew my lease so I can stay in the same neighborhood as these guys. ---- A year later, I still think these guys are amazing. They didn't want to charge me for a diagnosis that took them a lot of time and effort. I had to force them to take 1/2. I should mail them a check for the other half. I wish that they would start a used car dealership on the side so I could buy a well cared for affordable car with no trickery. I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about Shimon's Service Station and especially the autoservice technicians and the manager Kamel. Reasonable pricing for good work done on your car! It's hard to find an auto shop that you can trust, someone that you know won't rip you off on prices, and on top of it - try to sell you something that you don't need. Shimon's has never done that to me, or insisted that I get work done on something that didn't need any immediate repair. Just recently (last friday) - they've actually saved me from a scare tactic used on me at Glenville Auto (when only going there for an oil change from Groupon) so I took my car to Shimon's for a second opinion. Turns out, nothing was wrong other than a slightly loose tensional pulley that wouldn't hurt to be replaced, but is 100% safe to drive on. It's cliche to say, but I wish I could rate 0 stars. I've never seen a more unprofessional establishment in my life, nor have I ever been treated as rudely as I was at Shimon's. I called ahead to book an appointment for a state inspection, and was bluntly told that they don't take appointments for inspections (which was news to me, as I had booked an appointment just last year for an inspection at this very place). When I arrived Saturday morning, it was pure chaos at the shop. My wife and I (with our infant son in the back of the car) pulled over to the side in the lot (because no service spots were open) and I got out of the car to inquire about the inspection. Within seconds of stepping out of the car, I was SHOUTED at by the owner and then again by an employee, and was rudely told to pull around to the other side of the shop to park. Which I did, albeit feeling pretty offended at how I was treated. When we had parked in the new spot, I went in to drop off the key, as I saw that there was a line of 3-4 ahead of me. I was again shouted at and told that I needed to sit in the crowded shop (there were no seats open) and that they would not take my key and phone number (to call me after the inspection), that I had to wait an indefinite period of time (in the crowded shop, while my wife was standing outside with our baby stroller and son crying). When I responded that I couldn't wait because my son was crying and it was too crowded in the shop and I was concerned that I couldn't be quoted an approximate wait time, I was again SHOUTED at by the owner and the employee. My wife and I got our son back in the car and departed. I was shocked at the unprofessionalism of the people working here and I cannot understand why the shop is so heavily frequented by other customers. read more

Took my car here for a MA state inspection, as I recently had the car shipped from CA. Apparently my rear windows were tinted excessively, which is against state code. This is understandable, however the mechanic, without asking me, immediately took a razor blade to the window and started peeling off the tinting. To make matters worse, he handed me the razor blade and said he didn't have time to do this. There was absolutely no consent, no agreement to go forward with removing the tint. Absolute destruction of property. I deeply, deeply regret coming here and would suggest others avoid. read more

My experiences here have ranged from frustrating to downright shady. I had a turn signal bulb go out, and when I brought the car in to have it changed I was told that it would take an hour because changing turn signal bulbs is really tricky. I found this to be ridiculous, because my father (who is an accountant) does them back home on my car in about 10 minutes. They likely just wanted to charge me for the time/labor and assumed a woman would not know any better. The last time I bothered going here was to get my state inspection a couple years ago. It was a Saturday afternoon so there was an understandably long wait, but after being told I was up next (finally) a woman came into the small front office and explained that she wasn't sure her car would pass inspection but asked if they could look at it. The older guy at the front counter told her the inspector currently working was very lenient, but he was about to go off duty so they had better put her to the front of the line so she didn't have to deal with the harsh inspector. Like, brazenly told her that in front of me and the other people there waiting for inspections. So not only did I get to wait longer, but then the apparently harsh inspector failed my car for the tires. It seemed strange because they were only two years old, and I don't put a lot of miles on my car (less than 5,000 miles/year). Of course they wanted to do the tires for me (surprise!). New tires are not cheap, so I took the car elsewhere to have the tires looked at and it passed inspection. Since then I have not been returned, not even for gas. It's a shame because this place is conveniently located to my home in Brookline and work in Boston, and they have generally good reviews so clearly not everyone has experienced this type of behavior there, but after these experiences I definitely won't be back or be recommending it. read more

As a young woman who owns a car, I'm always trying to find garages and mechanics that won't talk to me like a child or try to rip me off. This was the first year that I needed to have my car inspected in the Boston area so I was wary of picking a place that would be fair and friendly to me. After reading some positive reviews from other women, I brought my car over to Shimon's on a Tuesday afternoon and they were able to take my car immediately for an inspection. All of the staff I encountered while there were friendly, and the technician who performed my inspection politely informed me about a bulb that was out and then quickly replaced it (which was just an additional $10). I was in and out with my new sticker in about 10-15 minutes, paid with a card. Will be returning in the future! read more

I don't mind so much that they didn't fix the problem with my car, but they were very rude about it, as though they didn't have time for me. I'd left a detailed description of the problem and as far as I can tell they didn't address it at all. Then when we tried to bring the car back to have them look at it a second time they were again very rude, talking over my wife, and saying things that didn't make sense. They bragged about "having 40 cars today", but that is clearly too many cars coming in and out to be able to take their time and do a good job. read more

Went here to get a state inspection sticker. Though the guy behind the counter was wonderfully polite, the inspection guy was terribly rude. A little background, I have old green/white plate. So it doesn't fade, I have a clear plastic cover protecting it. He insisted this is illegal. When I questioned him, he started getting visibly irritated. I mentioned that I've had the cover of years and never gotten a ticket. This infuriated him further, he started accusing me of "spinning stories." At that point I wished him luck with his customer service and left. Went to another place and my car passed inspection with flying colors. Later, after a little research, it turns out he may have something, but the law is a little ambiguous. Regardless, life is too short to deal with abrasive people. UPDATE (response from Brookline Police): You may put a clear plastic cover over plate but it must be clear and the numbers readable from 60 feet. If an officer stops you and informs you that he can not read the plate you can be cited. Some plastic covers sold have a tint that can hinder being able to read the plate. read more

Not sure how people think this place is so great. Went there to get my Mass sticker and the guy at the register was a total jerk. I called ahead and asked how long it would take; guy said 15 minutes and no line. When I got there, there were two people waiting. Waited there for about 10 minutes, and no one even manned the counter. Finally someone comes in and, I asked the guy if I could leave my keys with them and get a sandwich from down the street since it looks like it'll be a while. Guys says "we don't let you park here for free." Uhh... actually I came to get my sticker, as I explained, and it's not my fault that you guys are making me wait. "No, you have to just wait here in person... it's just going to be five minutes." Uhh.. no, it was already 15 minutes by then and who knows how much longer w/ the people ahead of me. It if weren't for the fact that I already wasted 20 minutes there and was running short on time, I definitely would have walked out. Total time 50 minutes - not pleased since I had to sit there and wait instead of any normal shop where you can leave your keys and pick up once they're done. I guess these guys have never seen a real service station. Will definitely never be here again. Guy gave me an extra dose of attitude when I paid. With so many options around offering the same sticker at the same price, why would anyone want to deal with this? Where exactly is the "service" part of this station? J read more

I come here every week for the gas and the friendly service. The guys who pump the gas sometimes even wipe down the windscreens while you wait. I recently noticed that one of my brake lights was out. I went straight to Shimon's and asked if they could fit me in. I waited for around 25 minutes (most of which was waiting for them to finish the 2 cars ahead of me that were getting stickers) and they were able to fix it for me. They also only charged me for the cost of the new bulb. I'll keep coming back for the gas, but if anything else goes wrong with my car I know where to go. read more

They let me drop my car off the next morning, fixed the minor problem (wheel and rim we're lose), took it for multiple test drives, and didn't even charge me. I highly recommend this place. I came in to get a second opinion on a fix recommended by my Honda service center (a pricey $500 repair). Given that the experience of facing expensive car maintenance (in the dead of winter, no less) can be so stressful, I was really grateful for the good, honest work these people did, at a vastly lower cost. The people at Shimon's were friendly and polite the moment I stepped in the door, in complete contrast to my experience at the dealer. They answered my questions in a very non-condescending way, an experience I rarely have when entering an auto repair shop alone as a female. There's a reason why it's so crowded at their station at 7:30am. This is the 'hot spot' for auto services in the Brookline area. A friend recommended this place, and they are wonderful. As busy as they are, they are efficient and also courteous when they call customers back. At least with me, they did not charge me anything until I gave them the OK for replacement parts, and the guy on the phone was patient and honest. I went to Shimon's to get my exhaust system repaired - one of the pipes rusted out where it connects to the muffler and Sears told me it would just need to be welded which would cost around $60-100. Since they are not specialized to do that and would only be able to replace the whole exhaust, they recommended I seek a mechanic. Well, Shimon's tried to tell me that it could not be welded and it would cost $1400 to replace the whole system, despite the fact that I already know there is a less costly fix. I said thanks but no thanks, and will be taking it to a specific muffler place. Shame on Shimon's for trying to take advantage of a customer who is more knowledgeable than they think. Plus, I found the staff to be abrasive and curt in their interactions. Will not be returning. read more

This place was one of the best experiences I have ever had getting my car inspected. I Called them and asked when I could get my car inspected, thinking I would have to go early Saturday morning so I did not miss work. They said no appointment needed, they would stay open until 9 pm on Friday even though they typically close at 5. I was in and out of there so fast I could not believe it. The attendant promptly pulled my car into the garage, did the inspection and pulled it back out within 15 minutes. He charged a very reasonable $35 and I gave an extra 10 I was so delighted with the service. Will definitely recommend this place if I hear someone needs their car inspected. read more

This service station is a great place to get your car fixed. I suspect there aren't any other reviews because people don't want to let the secret out. I've had excellent experiences taking my car (a VW Jetta) here for a variety of problems. At first I always shopped around before taking my car here, but now I just go straight here. As a woman, I have never felt like they would tell me something different than they would tell my husband about what is wrong with my car or what is needed, unlike some other shops. Also, if they can save you money on a repair, they will. For example, I was driving down 93 in pouring rain this summer, and my windshield wipers stopped working. Not cool. I took the car to the dealer and after looking at it they said I'd need several new parts which would cost me about 1 zillion dollars. No thanks. I took the car to Shimon's and they gave me a more reasonable quote. When they actually took the wiper motor out, they found it still worked and only needed grease. They charged me about half what they had estimated. By the way, call in advance - they are often full. read more

I hate paying people to do tasks I can do myself, so I was determined to replace my Jeep's blown headlight myself. But three of the four screws holding it in place felt like they were welded-in, neither I, nor my dad, in all our beefiness, could get them to budge. I stopped in to Shimon today to ask if they could help me get them out, thinking they might even have to cut them. Not only did they get the darn screws out in seconds, the guy put my new headlight in, screwed it in place, and would've screwed the frame back on if I'd let him, and refused to let me pay him for it. After reading positive reviews of this place, I had called early in the morning to make an appointment for an inspection. I was told that they do not make appointments for this and can come at any time. I drove over there that morning and was helped immediately even with a lot of cars already there. I brought work with me, thinking I would be there a while, but much to my surprise, the inspection was done in about 15 minutes and paid a very reasonable $35. The guys over there were very friendly and had noticed one customer being told of an oil problem and then being brought out to their car to explain what needed to be done. Very genuine and thorough. All in all, it was the best and most easiest auto service I have ever received in the area. Definitely recommend them!! read more

I LOVE these guys. I haven't had one negative experience with them, and I've been taking my car to them for everything for at least 4 years now. I trust my car to them completely. The thing I love the most is they actually tell you what's wrong with your car and how bad it actually is, and then they'll give you a price cheaper than any dealership I've ever been. Three examples: I went in for an oil change and Kamel called and said that my tires had uneven wear--but no need to worry, because it wasn't dangerous and I'd easily be fine through the winter. He just wanted to let me know because it might ride a little rough and make some noise on the highway. Sure enough, I was totally fine and ended up replacing them about 9 months later. I took my car in for a 90K inspection, and they called to tell me that my timing belt was going--I could get maybe another month or two out of it, but if it went it would be bad news for my engine. I told them to fix it and they still had my car ready the same day. A few months later, my car started making a loud noise when it got above 40mph. I took it in with no idea what the problem was, and they called and said it was probably a loose heat shield--reattached it, cheap, easy fix. Until I still heard the noise. I took it back and they looked at it again and found that it was a wheel bearing--which is about 10x more expensive to fix than that head shield. They apologized for not finding it! When do you ever go into a mechanic complaining vaguely about a loud noise and have them try the cheapest solution to fix it first? And then have them apologize for not charging you $600 off the bat? And those are just three examples, and I have so many more--not to mention that as a woman I've never felt the slightest bit uncomfortable or taken advantage of (which is unfortunately still the case so many other places). So, short story--go here. Your sanity, wallet, and car will love you for it. read more

When I got there, another guy got there before me and was being helped. They turned his car around in under 10 minutes and then got mine right in right after and out in under 10 minutes too.
