Shimon's is my go-to place for my state inspection and, recently, my photo inspection. They are always quick, polite (not super polite, but decent) and do a good job. Brought my car for inspection to get my Massachusetts registration. It was open on a Sunday of Memorial Day weekend when a lot of places were closed, and I found it completely by accident but I'm glad I did. Car was ready in 20 minutes but after me it started to get crowded so I'd bring your car in the morning. Fantastic place. I was in town from Pennsylvania with a long drive home. On our way up, the car started making strange noises and the engine light came on. I called Shimon out of the blue and he offered to look at it same day, diagnosed in 5 minutes, filled up a few of our tires to make sure we were in good shape, and wouldn't charge us for the time. I came here twice. One to get some stuff done on my car, and second to get my MA inspection tickets. Below are reasons, they fare better than competitors around them: 1. They give you a free diagnostic test. Despite it taking a lot of time and effort. Other places around them did not do this. For example A-Z in Brighton only waives the diagnostic test when you get service done from them. 2. They provided me with quotes and let me know I could choose what I wanted. I am a student, so I told them about my limitations money wise. They listened to my concerns and really helped with providing options. They provided me with explanations, and answered every question in a detailed manner. Really appreciated this. 3. They open really early. I brought my car in at 7:30am and i think they close till 9pm. 4. They did an inspection test for me in 15 mins after i brought my car when the inspection expired. Other places can take upwards of an hour to 45 mins. I gave them five stars because of the service they provided to me. I will definitely come back to them if I need anything for my car. Here are some cons. 1. I don't think they take appointments. It is 100% a first come, first served basis. So be early! 2. They are busy, seemingly because of this model. So, sometimes you will have to wait. 3. They don't have a lot of parking area around them. They are new establishments being built around them so know this beforehand. read more

I've been to Shimon's once to have an oil leak in my car looked at and possibly repaired. The mechanic I had, whose name I did not get, was adequately competent in his auto repair skills knowing exactly what was wrong with my Chevy Cavalier's oil filter cap based entirely on my recounted story. He fixed it for a fair price and did so reasonably fast. However, what he possessed in skill, he made up for in lack of courtesy managing to insult me on three occasions. Should I ever need a repair again I'll return my car to CLM Auto Repair in Cambridge, where the mechanics fix my car and don't insult me in the process. read more

WOMEN ALONE, DO NOT GO to this gas station! I have been to this gas station before a few times without an issue. This last visit a few days ago was so horrific I will never return. Anytime I've come here, it was self-serve gas and I pumped it myself. I came the other day and a man stopped me from pulling up to the pump and insisted he would pump my gas. Obviously I was confused since it's always been self service when I've come. I didn't know if the man even worked there. When I questioned it always being self service before, the man became furious and started screaming at me "What? You don't like me? You have a problem with me?" I was so confused and was only mentioning I thought it was self serve. When I said he needs to not yell at me and told him he's being very disrespectful he replied with, "why don't you just go work at a ti**y bar". I was in shock. It was so degrading and inappropriate for someone to say that when I'm just trying to get gas and did nothing wrong. I was clearly very upset and embarrassed since he was yelling this in front of another car. I wanted to leave so I told him I am going and not coming back here and that he needs to be more respectful to people. He continued yelling "Just leave you stupid bit**!" I left In tears and shaken up from the harassment. I took a photo of the man as I left, he smiled and waved. Avoid at all costs and go across the street to the other station! read more

Seriously the best experiences I've ever had with a mechanic. Really nice group of guys who are the exact opposite of every (mostly untrue) mechanic stereotype you've seen. They are friendly, they work quickly, they are honest, and their prices are more than fair. I had an issue with my old Honda that needed a second look from them, and when I went back they were completely honest about what we were looking at and how it probably wasn't worth me sinking any money into it. On top of that, they didn't charge me a dime, and they definitely put a couple hours of work into it. I can't say enough good things about these guys, and if you're in the area, you should consider them your first choice. read more

I took my car here last week, based on the great yelps, and I wasn't disappointed. I'll be honest with you, I am one of those people who always brought the new car to the dealer to have scheduled maintenance. Then it dawned on me, my new car ain't so new, the warranty's expired, and there's no reason to keep going back. Yes, I know that I never really needed to take it to the dealer in the first place, but some strange peace of mind came with going there. At any rate, I finally decided, an oil change is an oil change, so why not save some money. I called the day before to schedule and was told to drop off my car between 7:30 and 8:00 AM. I needed an oil change, the front brakes done, alignment checked, and to mount and balance my snow tires. I got a call in the early afternoon with the estimate and the car was ready for me to pick up at 5 PM. The price was right, and the service was friendly and prompt. I'll be coming back for my regular maintenance from now on. The only downside: getting to work without a ride or a loaner car (one of the perks of going to the dealer). Next time I'll try to do it on my day off. read more

I only pump my own gas when it is sunny and between 70-78 degrees outside. All other times, I go to Shimon. For a full-service gas station their prices aren't nearly as jacked-up as they could be. I don't mind paying an extra few cents to not squeeze that dirty gas pump handle. Other reasons I love Shimon? 1. They changed my headlight out this morning in 3 minutes, only cost $18. 2. Boyfriend took his car to Firestone for an inspection and they said he needed $1,000 worth of random work. Brought to Shimon and they gave him a new inspection sticker in 20 minutes. (And they stayed open later to do it). 3. They put on my license plate for me for free when I first brought my car up here. 4. They jump started my car when it crapped out in front of the gas station. 5. I was looking for the source of a rattle once and the guy came out and got under my car and helped me look. I will always support a local business over a conglomerate, especially when they're super nice, and they've still got competitive prices. read more

I've driven / biked / walked by this gas station so many times but today I actually used it for the first time upon discovering there's this little thing called an inspection sticker that my car (bought used but the first vehicle with four wheels I've ever owned...barring hot wheels) requires! I was in and out within 15 minutes despite them being fairly busy. They checked my car out, slapped the sticker on, and even took the time to explain to me the difference between inspection stickers (on the windshield) and plate stickers (on the plate). $35, Visa and Mastercard only, andddd done. read more

OMG! I LOVE THESE PEOPLE! Got my Mass inspection sticker last week, they told me the wait would be about 20min. I was finished, paid and out the door in 11min! They also took great care of me about a year ago when, out of the blue, my car broke down. I had never been here before, but I had my car towed here because it was closest to my work. Shimon's checked it out for me - I needed a new alternator. They quoted me (I can't remember how much) and were kind enough to let me leave it there for over 3 hours while I called around and got other quotes. I am a big fan of Shimon's. I have mainly used them for emissions testing or getting my oil changed and have never had any issues. I usually call the day before I want to come in and they always seem to have me out of there quickly. There were a few other places I used to go before them that always magically found problems with my car that didn't really seem to exist if I sought a second opinion. I've never had this issue at Shimon's and if I did have a problem, I know that I could trust them to fix it and not gouge me on the price. The team that works there is also incredibly nice. Just this morning, I had to wait a few minutes to find a parking spot because the place was crowded. Not a big deal but one of the employees thanked me multiple times for my patience. Not necessary at all but very nice! I have yet to have any major problems with my car since going to Shimon's, but I have confidence they'd do a great job if I did. read more

I lived in Brookline for a few years and used these guys for inspections and some little repairs. Inspections are super fast, I would just go and get a coffee, come back and roll out with a sticker. I have a 2000 Accord, and had an exhaust leak once. They put the car up, showed me how rusted my exhaust was getting and told me I would probably have to replace it soon. They didn't try to sell me on the larger job, instead patched up the specific problem and sent me on my way. That fix held up for the better part of a year until I had the whole job done to replace. They are pretty good with customer service, a little brusk for some people I would imagine. They can get pretty busy, so you may want to set a time up your schedule is tight. read more

I've been going here for state inspections for the past couple years. My experience with the staff hasn't been the best as they are patronizing and rude, but I wanted to support a local shop and it was also at a convenient location for me. This year, they failed my state inspection for a minor issue which they let go in the past years. I explained that the "issue" has been there for 4 years, but the guy didn't belive me and straight up said "no that's not true. I think I know my car's history better than anyone else. I went here to get my car inspected. I pulled in, and someone came to my car. I said I needed an inspection and they asked me to pull up to the garage, there was no wait. It took maybe 10 minutes total and I was able to pay with a card, I got my sticker, and I was done. It was easy. The people who worked there didn't speak perfect English but it wasn't a problem. They told me I needed to replace my front tires soon but didn't try to sell me anything. read more

It is so hard to find trustworthy, reliable, and kind auto repair shops anywhere these days -- especially in a city. I am so thankful that I came across Shimon's, who happened to be 100 yards from the house I lived in for 2 years. For some reason, for 1.5 years while I lived there, I went to an Aamco which was much further away and full of a bunch of crooks who I now know overcharged me and gave me all sorts of wrong information regarding my car. The guys at Shimon are all SO nice, and Shimon himself is awesome! On multiple occasions, they've been able to help me out RIGHT AWAY even though they're constantly busy. They don't steal your money or over-charge, their prices are actually extremely fair and much lower than prices I've been given at other places for the same work. They definitely are looking out for your best interests rather than their own and it's so refreshing and appreciated. These guys are the ONLY auto repair shop I trust in the greater Boston area. They're honest and fair, which is hard to find in an auto repair shop -- especially in a big city. In July 2014, I was three days away from embarking on a 3500 mile cross-country road trip when my car started sounding like a go-cart. Turns out the catalytic converter broke (not a cheap fix by any means) and Shimon's gave me a choice; pay $1,000 for a manufacturer part, or pay half of that for an after-market piece. The manufacturer piece has an 8-year warranty and the after-market had a 12-month warranty. I balked at the price of a new piece, and Shimon got noticeably offended. He told me that in the past, he's lost a lot of customers over catalytic converters, and while it was ultimately my decision, he would rather loose me as a customer than install an after-market piece that could come back to his shop in a year. Though I had brought my car to Shimon's before, I was skeptical that a single piece could cost a grand, so I called my Dad --who happens to be the cheapest, geekiest car dude in my life. He assured me that the part was definitely that expensive, and not only that, but for once in my life he advised me to get the more expensive piece. I definitely don't regret my decision-- the last thing I want to do is end up getting another catalytic converter next year, which would already surpass the cost of the new piece. Ultimately, I have Shimon's to thank for getting my car ready for the big trip--within 36 hours no less!! They also changed oil/break pads/checked belts/etc. These dudes rock and if I ever move back to Boston, you can bet I'll only get my car repaired at Shimon's. read more

Pulling up to a stop light, in the car that my sister and I share, I heard what sounded like a sonic boom. "WOAH did you hear that? that plane sounded really close!" one of our passengers exclaimed. As we stopped at the next light however we heard the rumble again and soon realized there was no fighter jet on our tail, but rather our brake pads and roters were saying a final goodbye. Thank goodness for Shimon's! They were the only auto repair place that would fix the car the morning I brought it in. The service men were very polite, charged us a fair price, AND allowed us to leave the car overnight (even though night parking in Brookline is ridiculous!). I will definitely be going back to Shimon's for all of my car repair needs. read more
