My back breaks were seizing up and I had my car towed to Shimon's. They did a great job with the repair and were easy to deal with. I had recently taken my car back to the dealer to look at my squealing breaks but the dealer said there was nothing they could do to fix it. Went the last day of the year to get an inspection sticker during my lunch break. My car was in within 10 mins of being there. I was told a headlight was out (didn't even notice!) and I probably needed a new tire. After first, I had a mini over-emotional moment because I was moving across country and driving there the next week. So I had very little time to be able to go back to get those things resolved (but obvs needed to in order to make it cross country. The guys that worked there were so nice and happy to help me in anyway. I ended up having to take an extra hour at lunch, which thankfully was okay. But both issues were resolved and my car passed inspection! Definitely recommend going there for your car services! read more

Had my disabled Jeep towed to their yard and despite only 2 hrs notice they squeezed me in, found a used driveshaft and made the repair for less than their estimate to enable me to make it home to NH the day before a big snowstorm. I went here for my inspection sticker because of all the shining reviews on Yelp and because it's close to work. I went in February, and a few days after the inspection I noticed my dash lights were acting funny. A week later my cruise control stopped working. I went to my trusted mechanic, and he told me that my taillight was shorting and causing all those issues. He also found that 3 other side lights were out. About a week ago, I started hearing a vibration on my front tire. I thought nothing of it but by the end of last week I could feel the vibrations on the gas pedal. Again I took my car to my trusted mechanic and he was shocked and a bit angered, asking who last worked on my car. He said the front tire was mounted terribly and minutes away from falling off. It is my inclination that these guys did a hasty job with the inspection and thus all these problems ensued with my car (which has never had any problems like this before). I have been going to this service station since I moved to Boston in 1998. These guys are the absolute best and are practicaly family now. They are honest with incredible integrity. They will never ever tell you to fix something unless it's absolutely necessary. They are very smart with cars and have helped me survive my relationships with multiple old used cars including a ford bronco, saab, suburu forrester, and currently a nissan altima. Everything everyone says about them being kind and respectful of everyone is true. Prices are totally reasonable; my dad's mechanic has frequently been surprised at how good their prices are. It was Saturday morning and I was on my way to Honda for diagnosing my problem with my Honda since it was a gasoline smell occasionally. I had serviced my car recently with Honda and they mentioned in the receipt that they realized a gasoline smell but that it required a special diagnostic test that was $129 estimated. I saw Shimon's Service Station while driving to Honda and decided to stop in because my friend strongly recommended it. I met Shimon, the owner. He was very friendly and kindly and offered free diagnosis which took 15 minutes. I felt that he gave me special attention even though it was very crowded there on Saturday morning. And I thought this is a reason why they have so many customers. It was a crack in my fuel tank that needed to be replaced. Next day they replaced my fuel pump within two hours and it cost me $200 less then estimated by Honda in addition to free diagnostic test. If I could give Shimon's 6 stars I would. I have lived in Brookline for 8.5 years, and I've been going to Shimon's the entire time. I used to have an old Jeep that needed a lot of work, and Kamel and everyone at Shimon's always fixed the problems for me, were very honest with me about what I really needed, and charged fair prices. Since then they've been servicing my Subaru, and my fiance's older car. We love them. LOVE them. Unfortunately we're moving out of Brookline, and I can honestly say I don't believe we'll find a mechanic who lives up to Kamel and the Shimon's staff. They are very honest, fair and reliable and I cannot recommend them enough. I will miss them terribly! read more

The other reviews are correct. These guys are honest, don't try to up-sell you on anything, don't recommend unnecessary work, do a good job quickly and at a fair price. While I believe they're primarily mechanics they even fixed my bumper which was hanging off of the car last year and only charged $25 to do it (I was getting estimates near $1000 at body shops). read more

I've been here a few times for repairs and have always had fast, affordable work that fixed the problem.

I came by around 4:30pm, with no pre-scheduled appointment, to have my car inspected as it was newly registered in MA and I had to do it by law. I had to wait just a couple of minutes until the car ahead of me was done, and then the guy took in my car for inspection. Only mid way I noticed the sign outside stating that inspections are done until 4pm and any later inspection will be charged extra... I wasn't charged anything extra and the guy was super nice and helpful. I was in and out with my inspection sticker within 15 minutes. Great service! I'll be back! read more

I have to echo what other people are saying about inspections. While they did seem friendly enough, I have a feeling I was a bit scammed. I brought my newly purchased (used) car to get an inspection sticker. I had bought the car from a dealer, who is a family friend. There was a reflector low on the back of the car that was cracked, and as a result they failed me. They said they could replace it for $60 (which seemed extreme) and for some reason, they would have to replace the second (seemingly undamaged) reflector, for another $60. I had never noticed it before, and when I called the guy who had sold me the car, he told me that it shouldn't matter at all- to go back and tell them that. I did, and the guy informed me that he was just trying to "help me out" and that the person I bought the car from should fix it (but he wouldn't). I was stuck in a tough place, having just bought the car I didn't have enough money to drop on expensive new reflectors. They told me though, that since it wasn't a safety hazard, I could drive the car for 90 days before having to get it re-inspected. I ended up taking it somewhere else, where they fixed the reflector (for I think half the price), and gave me a new inspection sticker. They mentioned that they would have passed me without getting it fixed, but I went ahead and got it done anyway. Meanwhile, before I got the car fixed and reinspected, I was pulled over on my way to work, and ticketed for having a failed inspection sicker. The cop said that the kind of sticker I had was a safety violation, undriveable and he could have me towed right away. I explained to him the situation and he said "I can't even see the crack you're talking about, but towing you seems extreme" and let me go (though with a ticket). I had argued with the people at Shimons enough that I wasn't going to go back there and have to deal with them about the ticket, but I felt like that was just the icing on the cake, and will certainly never go back, even just for gas. read more

I was referred to Shimon's by a friend when I bought my first city car three years ago, and completely understand why there seems to be a loyal following of customers. The guys there are very friendly, and have even taken me back to show me what they're talking about on my car. Prices are very reasonable, and I always feel like I'm getting more than a fair deal. I have brought my car here for everything from oil changes to inspections, tire repairs, new tires and brakes, and more recently a bad wheel bearing which Kamel was able to diagnose over the phone before I even came in. Honest and knowledgable mechanics. At first I was skeptical since they were listed as a Registered Emissions Repair Shop along with Herb Chambers dealerships which I would avoid like the plague. But I had to take it to a registered shop otherwise I wouldn't be eligible for a waiver if I needed one according to the the registry so I decided to give them a try based on the reviews. They will try to minimize your cost instead of trying to replace every part without figuring out what's wrong. I will definitely be back. read more

I do not recommend going here for inspection. These guys nit-pick things beyond the Massachusetts vehicle inspection requirements. I had some condensation in my tail lights so they failed me. Note that Mass regulations say nothing about water or condensation in the tail lights. I removed the tail lights and removed the water. A minute amount of water that was trapped between the tail light reflector and seal remained. This tiny amount of water had no way to make it to any electrical connections, so there was no safety issue. Still they refused to pass the vehicle so now I have to file a greivance, go somewhere else, or waste money to get new tail lights. read more

This is a small shop, only three people work on cars. Prices are very reasonable, and the quality of work is outstanding. As an example, we had a set of rotors and pads replaced on Audi A4, for 1/2 of what the dealer and Meineke quoted, with top quality parts (Canadian rotors). Excellent brake pedal 'feel' and performance. We've done other work at Shimon's as well - exhaust, suspension. Kamal is a very knowledgeable mechanic, and most importantly a person with great integrity. We stopped 'shopping around' and simply trust Kamal and his crew to do excellent work for a fair price. Highly recommended. Make sure you make an appt. as they are very busy. read more

This was my first time using this place to service my car. I originally had my Car towed to this location because of troubles starting the car. I had left it overnight because they were 20 minutes from closing when the car arrived. They told me the next morning they would call me and let me know what was wrong. The next morning they called & told me what was wrong & they could fix it by 4 the same day. I did not end up getting my car serviced because I had the part and my father could fix it for me. However, I received the best customer service from this place than I have at any other place I've been to. When I told them I wasn't going to get the car serviced they didn't try to convince me to get it done or harass me in anyway. They didn't try to scam me, they were very friendly and respectful towards me as well. On top of everything else, the total price to have the car stay overnight was less than $100. I was shocked at how cheap it was because in the past I have paid well over $100. If I have car troubles again I know I'll return to this place because they are great! read more

Sounds like a lot of people really like this place. I have not had good experiences there. They are full service, but I have had to pump my own gas more than once, and today, I went in to get some air in my tires, and asked for help doing so, and basically the guy I initially spoke with said, with an attitude, that he would only help the "paying customers" and that I'd have to wait. Even as I waited, another "paying customer" drove up regarding another issue, and they were waited on first. Finally the manager helped me, but when I spoke with him about how rude I thought the first guy was, he took his side, and only begrudgingly helped me. The place is in my neighborhood and I've been going there for gas, and occasionally for inspection stickers, but I don't think I will be giving them my business in the future. Sounds like they don't really need it anyway, as so many people have given them raving reviews. I don't get it. I asked for help really nicely, and was treated very disrespectfully. I would have been fine had they asked nicely for me to come back later, or even the next day, but they didn't. Very disappointing. read more
