What began as a routine annual inspection turned into an unexpectedly unpleasant encounter with the owner. I had left my Kindle tablet on the front passenger seat before my car was brought into the bay. Less than 20 minutes later, the inspection was complete--everything seemed fine until I noticed the Kindle was no longer where I left it. When I asked the attendant if they had moved it, he quickly brushed me off, saying, "It's there somewhere. We didn't take it." The owner then jumped in, immediately defensive and raising his voice: "We're not thieves here! Check your car--it's there!" Sure enough, I found the Kindle in the back seat. This could have been easily resolved with a calm explanation instead of shouting at a customer. But it didn't stop there. The owner continued yelling, "And don't go on Google saying we're thieves!" I replied, "I'll definitely mention your attitude." He shot back, "That's fine. I've been in this business 33 years--I'll just respond to your review saying you discriminate." I'm not sure where that came from, but okay. Interestingly, this wasn't my first negative interaction with this same person--I experienced similar rudeness about a year ago but decided to give them another chance. Big mistake. It's now confirmed: these are some of the most unpleasant people to deal with in Brookline. Avoid this place if you value your time, your peace of mind, or simply a respectful interaction. Looking at the other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who's dealt with this kind of rude treatment here. they pull ur light fuses out during inspection to charge you more for inspection. i wouldn't trust them. they seem like a sketchy bunch.

This is the best gas station in Brookline by far. The owner, mechanic, and other staff are amazing. Consistency, kindness, and trustworthy - what more could you want. I know prices may be higher at times but it is Brookline, and urban, lol. I also love that they participate in Star Market rewards program. So, if you shop at Star Market and use your points, you can actually save up to a $1.00 per gallon. Only goodness from this place. Omar and his staff are the best. read more

He said nothing but leave the key here and stand outside, then I ask can I go somewhere else since it's pretty cold out, and he replied in bad manner, NO. Sure, it's a bit of a cluster to get in and out of this place and they're basically only good for gas and inspections, but I was pleasantly surprised. I live nearby and have been to this Mobil many times for gas. I've found their prices to be on par with Stop & Shop's down the street, and much cheaper than the other Mobil in Brookline (on the corner of Boylston and Cypress) - usually by around $0.25/gallon. This review is really about my inspection experience. After trying THREE places in one day (at the beginning of the month, mind you), I was frustrated. It's difficult to find a place around here that will do an inspection...let alone one without a big wait. I rolled into Mobil around 4 pm and noticed that not only do they do inspections until 7 pm, but they're also open on weekends. I was in and out within 15 minutes. The gentleman who inspected my car was courteous and I just sat on the bench out front while he did his work. I was really pleased with my experience and would return. read more

Fast service. Funny, I never get my gas here, but I like this station. Like most Mobils, gas tends to be a bit more expensive than others. Of course, being in the middle of Coolidge Corner in Brookline must also drive up the price. Probably one of the most expensive gas stations outside of downtown Boston. Why would I come here then? Because they still offer state inspections at a pretty standard price. It is always the same guys that are inside. They have always been kind and like to joke around. I have seen a few repeat customers who are friendly with the attendant. If no one else is in line, the inspection only takes about 10-15 min. The mechanic always seems to be there, at least during the day time. They have you park your car to the right where there's a bunch of tandem parking, give the guy inside your registration and key, and then either hangout or walk around Coolidge Corner. There really isn't a waiting area. There is a chair next to a stack of lotto papers and a wooden bench outside. From what I can tell, it seems like they just check that all the lights work, no warning lights on, and the emissions. They have never come to me with pointless repairs or any extras. Maybe they are one of the more trustworthy auto shops around here or maybe they just don't bother because they don't seem to do much auto work here (it is primary a gas station and the garage only fits two cars). I don't think I've ever seen them working on a car besides doing an inspection. Basically, it's close to home and it's as cheap and fast as I expect them to be. read more

Came here for an inspection the other week almost an hour before closing, and the first thing the guy said to me was "wow you come at the end of day[sic], shop is closing man, come on man...God..." in a very aggressive manner. I tried to get out as soon as I could. Pro tip for management: If you don't want to serve customers at a particular hour, then don't advertise those hours. I've never gotten gas here so can't speak on that experience. I came in a few years back to get my girlfriend's tires looked at. They did the repairs easily enough. Pretty run of the mill in terms of speed and price. 3.5/5. I stopped by today to get my inspection sticker. A gruff-speaking tech met me right away and took my car in immediately to be inspected. Finished and paid at the inside counter in maybe 10 minutes. The tech acknowledged my goodbye wave. 3 stars for "pleasantness" and 4+ for the more important factors of speed and efficiency. 3/5 read more

I got my car inspected here. The man who did the inspection was incredibly rude and kept making nasty comments as he looked inside my car because it had dog hair in it from my pooches. Being new to Massachusetts, I didn't know they would have to look inside the vehicle, so I hadn't spiffied the car up in preparation. Dog hair or not, it certainly didn't warrant such a display of rudeness. I'll never go there again. read more

This place has terrible service. Went for car inspection and the guy who does them "wasn't there" (no other information) so had to go back another day. Went back only to be told that they don't start inspections until 10:30. I come back at 10:30 and am told the guy who does them is at court. When will he be back? No one knows. The service is terrible and considering how minor this inspection is (it's an 2012 car) you'd think someone could do it. I would go to another place before this one. read more

I am an Uber driver and I stopped in for gas and to use the restroom. I was very impressed for a gas station how CLEAN the women's room was. It shows they care about their customers!!! The staff was pleasant and helpful and it's nice to know that the owner really cares about his customers and business!!! read more

I unfortunately made the mistake of stopping here on my lunch break yesterday to get my inspection sticker. At first things seemed normal, the clerk who looked like an emaciated persian Peter Lorre with greased back hair told me it would be about 40 minutes since there were others ahead of me. No problem! I pulled to the parking area and as I got out of the car he descended upon me like a vulture and told me "oh because your car has a loud muffler, we may have a problem. The DMV [sic] told me not to pass anyone with a loud exhaust. But if you want we can replace it with a new one; not too expensive" I told the "gentleman" that he was full of it, I have always passed. He became upset that I did not fall for his ruse and began yelling at me in a high pitched feminine whine. I started up my engine and told him to f-off and started to back out of the spot I was in when two of the station attendants ran up behind my car in a VERY aggressive aggresive manner and began shouting obscenties at me and threatening me while making kicking motions at my car. They are lucky I didn't run them over in fear for my life. These people are in fact legitimate criminals and should be behind bars! DO NOT STOP HERE YOU ARE PLACING YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR LIFE AT RISK! I really wish that last sentence was an exageration but it is actually an appropriate warning. Caveat Emptor. I have bought gas here for ten years. No longer! The man who manages this station was sitting in a chair, watching TV when I walked in. The street and station were empty- it was Christmas eve. I asked him for help with the air to pump a low tire and he gave me a really disinterested response without even looking me in the eye saying,"the mechanic had gone for the day." Super bad vibes from that man. read more

The service here is horrible. They charge for "full service" but do not provide it. We were getting gas and paid a premium for the clerk to pump the gas but he did not! We asked him for a refund for the charge for "full service" and the clerk refused. He said he was busy and didn't feel like it and we could wait. Moral of the story, bad service and dishonest.
