Not that I would be returning after my last experience, the work and professionalism is awful here. I got my nails done three days ago and the acrylic is already chipping off. Yasmin proceeded to call one of my friends/coworkers disrespectful and told me that she intended on canceling this girl's future appointments. I was aware that my friend was unhappy with how her nails turned out (various lengths, bad filing) so I was surprised that she didn't want to do anything to fix the problem. I walked in one day a few years ago wanting Kat to do my nails....and was told they did not take walk ins. (Extremely busy!!!) I called later and made an appointment. I've been going back ever since. Soo I had my appointment Feb 22nd 2019 mind you I booked it two weeks prior because apparently they're "so busy" well anyways... I won't name the name of the girl who did my nails but just tell you to NEVER GO THERE 1. They charge $70 for a full set with Gel & they don't even do pedicures! 2. They charge $70 and do their own thing to your nails. I wanted long Coffin nails. But got short child like looking press-on nails 3. They're very unsanitary. I wanted to wash my hands before getting putting nails on and she told me to wait. Then my pinky started to bleed from her clipping a hangnail & she just told me put it back in dryer not to go wash my hands or anything & she did the nail over the blood so now there's dried up blood under one nails 4. I was asking her the price and she didn't tell me until after she put nails on & then when I was telling her about my pricing issues she started talking very loud Seeming like she was trying to embarrass me 5. I texted the girl doing my nails and told her how sad I was about the appointment ect... & she did not offer to fix my nails just said it would cost more money ! And basically got an attitude with me for speaking my mind 6. Got them done Friday 22nd middle finger nail came off Sunday 26th & I tried my mother in law to a $70 fullest & her nail came off only a few hours later ! 7. Very judge mental. I haven't been to Shimmer Just Nails since I started Med school. I decided to come into the salon and give it a go... I thought "hey, maybe, I can rock a cute short mani... maybe it won't interfere with anything @ work and school." Made the appointment ahead of time. Texted Elise and had confirmation that she was free to see me such date and time. I made sure to come in 10 minutes early. If any of you have traveled in the Bay Area, you'll know how horrible the traffic gets from Marin to Santa Rosa. I used to RAVE. R-A-V-E about this place. I told a number of my friends, coworkers and colleagues about how great I felt. I don't know what switch went off today, but I just couldn't follow through with my appointment. I was waiting patiently for Elise to finish up on her client... when my blood started to boil. BOIL. These girls have nothing else better to talk TRASH about the people that fund their business ! "OMG girl, yeah that girl is an an escort... yeah w/e she's fat... she's not even that pretty..." blah blah blah. If these girls talk about their clients that feed their mouths and put a roof over their head, what would they say about me behind my back once I left the salon? These women have no couth. No respect. !No moral compass. I never heard Elise speak about her clients in any disrespectful way, but everyone else in that salon throw more shade than a freaking umbrella. As far as nails go, they are great... great for at least a week tops. I first came in to see Elise when she was fresh on the scene. She won me over with her creative and bubbly attitude. She also always delivered and gave me a good set. That was @ the beginning. Sesh after sesh the quality of her nails diminished. I've called and texted Elise COUNTLESS times! No answer. Called the salon... no answer or told that she's "busy." She then told me when I walked in that her "phone wasn't working properly. Not receiving her text messages on time..." I think if your phone is a main way for your customers to get in contact with you... fix it or do something so that you don't lose your valuable customers/clientes. She once said, "We use great products, healthier and better than the material that was used on your old nails..." Great products? Mmmm... really girl ? 1. These nails you did ferrrrrrr meeeee lasted a week, 2. you've made my nail beds bled, 3. And you can't even text or call me back? Girl bye. All in all.. Their pedi stands are small and lack anything remotely close to a normal nail salon. The gossip and profanity is insane! The content that's spewed during your "relaxing time" makes you cringe and makes you feel uncomfortable. Nails fall apart! So what's good about them? Reputation precedes them and hopefully people read these reviews before investing 70 to 100 dollars on a set that won't last a full week. Read the other reviews... Another long overdue review. It's extremely rare to find manicurist that have lots of training, or up-to-date with current trends, and this was definitely that place. But what they lack is professionalism, commitment, and respect. Those three things are a two-way street and it goes a long way. As far as decent nails goes yes they have that figured out but what they don't have figured out is how to effectively communicate. My last technician was Kat and although she does wonderful nails she's very talented and artistic she's not a good communicator, she gets her feathers ruffled easily it makes for a very poor business relationships. Nonviolent communication is an important factor when you're dealing with the public, knowing how to D escalate and communicate in a way that everyone is on the same understanding. I was fired for not sending the Venmo deposit to the correct Venmo address to which I feel that responsibility lies on her and I should have reached out to confirm that so it left a poor taste in my mouth and I feel was very unprofessional on her end. A lot of life has to do with experience and growing up and I need to find someone that has more experience, has better communication thank you. read more

I have never got my nails done by the salon before but my first time calling/showing up was not pleasant. I understand weekends are busy, but this I don't understand... I dropped my boyfriend off at the barber next door, I didn't want to barge in and ask if they allow walk-in appointments so I called them. Watching them from my car, no answer. I see women walking around...okay, so I quietly walk up and ask if they allow walk in appointments and she says "you have to call to make an appointment".......I JUST TRIED TO CALL AND NOBODY ANSWERED! She never asked me to schedule an appointment in store, she just said, "you have to call to make an appointment" I don't get it..I'm already there talking to you in person, why can't I schedule an appointment in store? Very disappointing. I went to this Salon after I saw someone's nails. I brought my step daughter. I'm an educator in this industry and have been in the beauty industry over 30 years. People pay me to make their Salon business better. I'm a cosmetologist since 87. So, I know what I'm doing and what I'm talking about. I booked a pedicure with Viri, a full set with Kat, and my step daughter had a gel manicure with Viri. My set was beautiful and Kat does good work. My pedicure with Viri was the worst pedicure I ever had! The polish wasn't applied correctly and never dried! The next morning it was still wet and two of my toes nail actually broke. My heels and skin where still left cracked and dry. The cuticles the same! She agreed to fix it. Which she did, I still look like I need to get a pedicure. She did and awful Job on my step daughters nails too, the gel started to come off that afternoon! And no cuticle work. I did rebook for a fill with Kat. She told me I would get a text message reminder for my appointment. I never got one. I had her on my calendar for Wednesday. I sent her a text to confirm. She said my appointment was the other day and I missed it. Obviously there was some kind of confusion, I would never not show up for an appointment. She than told me I would have to pay her $25 to make my next appointment. I was really not happy with that, mistakes happen. But, I said ok. She then sent me a text saying they have to many clients and can't take me ever! Unprofessional would be a nice word to describe this establishment! I've called twice as a new customer attempting to make an appointment even though it is a bit of a drive for me. I think I spoke to the same woman. First time was towards the end of the day and I was told I would need to call the following day because they were closing. Clearly she was out the door and I had the audacity to detain her. Today she was snippy and kept shouting at me that she couldn't hear me and that I was cutting out. It's a bummer to see such bad reviews. I don't usually get my nails done because they never last long on me. I got my first set done before my vacation last October and now I am hooked. Whatever they use is awesome. I beat the crap out of my hands. I can go about 5 weeks in between fills and not have nails broken and such. Amy is awesome. I always have a blast going there. All the other girls I have met are nice too. There are no kids allowed which is fine by me. It is kinda brash, but it is right up my alley. Used to be my favorite place!! I loved my nail tech!!! But after a couple YEARS of being a regular, all the sudden I don't get responses to my appt requests... I asked about 3 different appts over a period of 3 months- and never got one response!!!! How can I love this place anymore- it's like I'm being told she doesn't want to do my nails anymore so she just ignores my texts/calls. I really wanted to love this place. I mean they serve free mimosas, who doesn't want a little glass while getting their nails done. I came here for a bachelorette's party this past weekend as we wanted something relaxing after a long crazy night. Well here's the experience went..... The bad but tolerable - They messed up our reservations. We even had 9 texts to prove it. The front desk wouldn't admit the error and pushed the blame on some else, not cool. In the end, they called in an extra tech and it all worked out. The bad - I asked for 2 rounds of mimosas for my girlfriends and they never came, once when we arrived and then again when I finished my nails and realized they didn't get theirs. The main reason we decided on this place was because they served mimosas. My nail tech was very nice and got one herself for me. The intolerable - it wasn't what I pictured in my head when we booked this place... I was picturing a bunch of girls, at a nail salon, drinking our mimosas while trying to recollect our memories from the crazy night before, but instead, we were all seated very far apart, like different rooms far. Even for those who were seated in the same room, we were seated at opposite ends of the room. So basically, it was each of us talking to a our nail techs only, no girl bonding time. THE WORST/HORRIBLE/UNACCEPTABLE - a THIRD of us got infected, one with puss.... PUSS!!!! P.S. - I loved by nail tech. She was fun to talk to...the only reason for the one star. Well, hello there trendy nail art technician! I know this place overall does good work, just from the pictures that are on display in the lookbooks in the salon and from what I've seen, however my experience wasn't what was expected. I hadn't had my nails done in a while since I recently moved to the bay area, so I went off of a recommendation from one of the gals who works at Ulta in San Rafael. I went in without an appointment since technically I was on the same end of the bay. That day it was rainy and cold, but I drove about 30 minutes anyway because I was so enamored with the deigns I saw on this girl. After getting my nails done, I regret to say I was not as impressed as I should have been. I won't name names, but one of the newer nail techs was just that, new. I could tell she was a bit nervous handling my nails, and recommending different design ideas. Now, when I lived in Sacramento I had a standing appointment with Kathy at Top Coat for yeaaaaars. I am used to a veteran just taking control of the appointment once I throw a few ideas out there. The nail art I chose I liked, but my nails looked like they were already a week old (as the polish was too far away from the cuticle). Then, after a week, my polish began to completely lift off the nail. I was suuuuuper disappointed as I could not justify driving 30-40 minutes just to get a nail repaired (and complain - you can't just complain and not be willing to go back in), but I should not have had to think that way in the first place. It's a pain to write a bad review, so I will say this: if you know you have newer staff, you should possibly let your walk-ins know so they have the choice to sit in that nail techs chair or not. They do this at hair salons and barbershops, so this should be adopted at nail salons as well. Also, I believe in order to leave a good impression a customer needs a good experience. My nail tech was as sweet as a button, but the technician sitting next to us had a customer who spoke foul language and was ok with having a conversation about taboo subjects using her "outside voice". I think a "hey, now you know you can't talk like that in here" would have been just fine to nip that in the bud. Just a thought. read more

This is an amazing nail salon. Go to their facebook page and look at the designs. I can't even adequately describe their work - like a collage of color on each nail. They do 3D, glitter and all types of nails. My daughter had her nails done here before school started and everyone commented on them - even the beauty professionals at Macys knew about Shimmer and commented on her nails when she was buying makeup at the counter. In my opinion this business is wayyyy over priced and is very low quality. I've gotten my nails done here a handful of times thinking they would actually stay on this time. I don't know about you guys but when I pay $65 for a full set I expect them to stay on for a few weeks! Each time I have gotten my nails done here they fall off within the first week. Way too much money to be spending when there that cheaply done. Each time was for a special occasion like vacation or wedding thinking I could get a more high quality work done but each time was disappointed.
