Service is good. Not too many good K food restaurants in the valley but this one's one of the better ones. I like their red rice and galbi. It's flavorful. I am not a great fan of combination meat platters so I always order a la carte. I think they do use msg in their food but it's really hard to find a restaurant that doesn't. Been going here for years now but I think the food doesn't taste as good as before . I know that the meat is given raw and you have to grill it yourself and that's the fun of it, but something is off. Maybe the vegetables, the dip or something else. And here's the kicker. The bill for 2 of us comes to $54. We left a $5 tip. The waitress came to us at the parking lot and demanded we give her $7. Which i did but i ask her is this new that you can demand the amount of the tip. I'm sorry people but this is not right. I hope this will not be a trend. This was my second time trying Korean BBQ in LA. The meats are pretty delicious and savory. The best meat would be the kalbi which was soft, tender, and lightly smokey. Complement that with a refreshing glass of chilled beer, and you have a perfect meal. There are plenty of banchans to supplement the meal and you can ask for refills too which is nice. The seating can be a bit tight for 4 people to a table, especially if you have a lot of side dishes packed together on the table. Overall, delicious KBBQ restaurant in the SFV. My spot for Korean BBQ! I live 25-minutes away and make the trip at least once a week, the food is that good. The meat is hands down the best quality and the sides are always fresh and plentiful. It's not AYCE, which is a plus for me as I know that I'm getting good quality meat. People complaining about the waitress service need to do their research on old school, legit Korean BBQ joints. This place isn't for everyone I'll admit. It's not AYCE, it's not the newest, happening restaurant on the block, but it's Korean BBQ done right. Older, slightly rude female Korean waitresses are a K-BBQ staple and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. From the beginning to the end, the service was quite fast and our waitress was very helpful. I didn't know what to get, the menu is very extensive. They have such a wide variety that it would take many visits to try a decent chunk of it. I had so many different things in mind, but since it was our first time there, I figured you can't go wrong with a classic meat combination, after all, it is a Korean self-cook restaurant. We chose the combination with the short ribs and the brisket. It came with soup, salad, and all the sides that a typical KBBQ place would have. The side dishes were delicious and fresh. The meats, however, wasn't too fresh. There was a slight taste to it that would be off-putting to those with extremely great tastebuds. Every time we needed something we had to call the lady over and every time she gave us attitude. I still was very polite to her. Gratuity is included that's why they have such bad service. We walked in about 7:30 and it wasn't busy. But they do have a wait during the weekend. We ordered the combo plate with brisket, short ribs and rib eye. The brisket is cut thin which I love. You cook your own food. The meat come with onions and mushrooms but they are skimpy on them, we had to ask for more. We asked for low sodium soy sauce and they said they don't have it. How is that possible in today's world where people are trying to be healthier? We've been here several times and the service sucks. It is what it is. I only came tonight because my husband wanted to. For me it will be another year or two before I come back. We came to dinner with our neighbor, it was his first time. He recommends going across the street which has the same type Korean BBQ. He said the ambience is better and newer. Next time we want Korean BBQ I'll be going across the street. The restaurant was good but we didn't enjoy the service. And because we were a party of six they added the 18% gratuity. Which of course I asked to be removed because by law a restaurant can't make you pay a gratuity. The vegetables were not salty this time around, but had an odd sort of taste. I cannot put it in words, other than only the shredded carrots tasted fresh. I liked how I could order brown rice that had small dark beans (adzuki) in it, though I really did not like that the beans were not cooked adequately. They were hard, as if they needed more soaking and cooking time. Maybe they were rushed? Because of their inconsistency and the fact that their tea is not super hot, this is my least favorite Korean BBQ. The longer I sat there, the more I disliked their decor too. Galbi (short ribs) at Shik Do Rak rivals the best in Koreatown. This is better meat than what you'll find across the street at Gen Korean barbecue and other all-you-can-eat places. They use higher quality meat ($40 for a generous plate) for their galbi. The meat is tender and marinated so well it has an addicting quality. I've had the bulgogi, but I much prefer the galbi. The banchan is better than average compared to other places in the Valley and even some spots in Koreatown. The service could use some improvement. We didn't see any bells on the table to call someone over (which is common at Korean restaurants). They don't really come by to check on you nor do they replace the grills when it is already charred as some places automatically do. Water wasn't refilled and they don't leave a pitcher of water at your table like some other Korean barbecue restaurants. The drive isn't too bad coming from south of the Valley on a weekend and there's plenty of parking. You'll see many of Korean families dining at this restaurant unlike what you might see at the crowd dining at AYCE Gogi or Fresh Korean BBQ in the Valley. Go for the galbi, rice paper (dukbosam), and banchan (sides). They also serve purple rice with beans if you ask for it. read more

Shik Do Rak has been an institution for my family. We've eaten here weekly for decades. The food quality is a lot better than the Gen place across the street. However, the prices have skyrocketed here. An example is the Galbi which 5 years ago was to die for. Melt in your mouth perfection. But recently has become just average. And recently price is now at $49.99. I'll be skipping this and headed for Flemings for a Prime Ribeye Steak also priced at $50. But what brings it down to 2 stars and likely not returning is the ridiculous 18% tip they add on for parties of 4 and over. Which is almost all parties that come here. And it's not disclosed until the check comes. If it's disclosed somewhere else I didn't see it and I was looking for it. Our family of four ordered almost $200 of food tonight and the 18% tip they added on top of this was insulting. We probably would have tipped this anyway, but let it be our choice. read more

So I guess for the western side of the Valley, this is the place my co-workers like to go eat for KBBQ. Unfortunately, while I found the place good by Valley standards, overall it was just mediocre compared to other places I have been to. This place is NOT AYCE (at least from what I saw and ordered), so we ended up ordering certain sets that contained meats and a variety of other goods. There was also the option to order certain meats individually. The meat itself tasted pretty good, so I felt like they were making the food with decent to good quality meats, but the items that accompanied the meat left a lot to be desired. I thought the Banchan was just okay tasting, it wasn't as good as other Korean places I have been to, and they were just acceptable. The salad served had some sort of dressing on it that I wasn't too fond of, like a thick Chinese Chicken salad dressing. They didn't provide any thin pickled radishes which I am used to when eating KBBQ, but they did provide the thin rice sheets. The dipping sauces were one with oil, and one with chili sauce, and I was surprised there was not one of the vinegary soy sauce options. The soup and japchae were also just okay, nothing too special. Overall the place is decent if you're hungry in the Valley, but not some place I would normally go to if I had other KBBQ options. read more

What was tacky was the fact that no egg was included in the tofu soup. When we brought it up at the end of the meal, the waitress said that we had to ask for egg! We have been dining here for 10+ years, the egg was always included without asking for it. My suggestion is include the unless the customer asks to not include the egg, not the other way around.
