Great at wasting your time! When speaking with the person that makes appointments I was assumed that they take VSP. Upon arrival for my appointment, they informed me that they are out of network for VSP. I mentioned that the person that scheduled my appointment assured me that they take VSP, they said then said that they do. They told me to pay for the appointment then and they would give me a receipt that could be submitted to VSP and VSP might reimburse some portion of the visit. I tried this clinic out because I needed a new eye doctor and glasses prescription. The tech was friendly, but the eye doctor himself was dismissive. He wrote a prescription without talking to me about astigmatism. I can't wear my glasses without getting dizzy. When checking out, the desk staff was pretty rude. Then I got a reminder to attend my follow up? For what? They automatically scheduled me for two appointments without checking my schedule or asking me to attend. It feels very paternalistic, doesn't feel like I was involved as a participant in my care. I didn't feel comfortable there and won't go back. Why should my insurance (or a patient) pay for appointments every three months if there's no ongoing treatment? read more

I was introduced to Dr. Sheth after being rejected for traditional LASIK due to thin corneas. After two years -- I went to Dr. Sheth for a second opinion. He informed me about ICL Surgery, which I was a candidate for and would correct my eyesight and remove the need for contacts. It is slightly more invasive and time intensive than LASIK, however Dr. Sheth and team made me feel comfortable prior to, during and post-surgery. 2-3 months since and I am still doing great with no complications. Dr. Sheth is only a text away if something does come up, which makes me feel secure, given I live in NYC over 4 hours away from his office. My only criticism is in-line with other reviews regarding wait times, but it was only an issue a few times and shouldn't deter those looking for a strong surgeon from a consultation. Went for a vision correction surgery consultation. This place is plagued with communication errors. 1) The consultation went over time (was told that it should take at most 2 hours, it ran over to 2.5+ hours). Plan to be here for a long time! 2) Was told over the phone that my eyes would not be dilated. My eyes were dilated, and I could not work for the rest of the day. 3) Dr Sheth did a poor job of comprehending and answering my questions; rejecting them as too technical and kept citing the number of surgeries he's performed as reason for why I should trust him without having my question answered. Talking with him felt like pulling teeth. Most of medical error come from miscommunication. Do you really want to go to a place where no one can keep a fact straight? read more

With the Sheth- Horsley eye center I experienced consistently long wait times, and feeling like they triple book appts. The assistants and staff are always nice and helpful, but I barely see the doctor for more than 5-10 minutes each appt. I get needing to keep things speedy for customers waiting, but it always felt like I had to drag the Doctor back to get my questions answered, I was asked by the assistants at the end if I had any questions but never by Dr. Sheth. The center is also notorious for barely ever picking up the phone when I call. They had a sign for Covid to call if you don't have a mask when you get to the door (Feb 2023, so I forgot my mask). I was at the door calling for 5 minutes and no one picked up the phone, even though I saw someone sitting at the desk not helping anyone. No one ever picked up, I just went in unmasked unfortunately. They told me it was going to be 1.5 hour wait time due to low staff so I decided to go back to work. I got a call the next day asking me to reschedule since I didn't show up for my appt. I started wearing glasses at age 5, thick brown frames that I absolutely loved. In my mid teens I switched to contacts. They were a part of my everyday life and a crutch that I was growing to detest. I am happy to say that today, thanks to Sheth-Horsley Eye Center, I am corrective lens free. I recently had PRK surgery and could not be happier with the results. When I went in for my initial assessment I was impressed with the consistent friendliness and efficiency of the staff. I felt comfortable as soon as I sat in the first exam chair. Everyone there was very good about explaining (in an easy to understand manner) what they were assessing and how it worked into the potential vision correction. The staff were all very personable and easy to talk to. They all answered any questions I had with honest answers. After my assessments I met with Dr. Sheth, a no-nonsense, professional with an impressive work ethic and an obvious talent for what he does. I immediately felt relaxed knowing that, if I was a good candidate, this man would be using lasers on my eyes. Once Dr. Sheth looked over my results he spoke with me about doing PRK surgery rather than the LASIK (LASIK is the more common of the two). He went over why PRK was a better option for me and what it meant for the surgery and recovery. Honestly, the hardest part for me was wearing my glasses for the few weeks before the surgery (I wore contacts almost exclusively but prior to surgery it's necessary to stop wearing contacts) Every step of the way things were explained and I felt very well informed about what my surgery would entail, how it was different from LASIK, what my recovery time would be, what my responsibilities were, and any complications that could arise. There ARE risks involved, as with anything of this nature, I can tell you that I weighed the risks and my comfort level with Dr. Sheth and his team and, for myself, this surgery was worth it and I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I couldn't imagine how freeing it would be to not have to wear contacts, it sounds a little cheesy to say it's life changing but it is. Just to be able to wipe my eyes while running or dive into the ocean and not worry about losing a contact is liberating. I was dependent on corrective lenses for most of my life and to have freedom from that is remarkable. The actual surgery took less than a minute per eye. It feels little odd, your eye is numb and I felt a light pressure but it did not hurt. I took the rest of the day (my surgery was around 11:30am) and after an afternoon nap (and ice cream!), I felt well enough to join my family for dinner before going back to sleep again. My best advice? Use the drops!! My eyes felt dry and strained for a few days following my PRK. PRK has a longer recovery time than LASIK, for me it was around a month. I am now 3 months post-surgery and have 20-20 vision. I got my first pair of glasses in 1995 I got contacts in 1998 I have wanted to get corrective surgery since 2002. I don't mind the look of glasses, but the fact that I have to continually push my glasses up is a bit annoying. I am an athlete, and sweat on the glasses and also getting the glasses hit off my face is annoying Contacts... they fix all of the problems I mentioned above. But having to take them in and out every morning and night, taking cases and solution on any trip is annoying. Needless to say, I was very excited to get corrective surgery. All the money you spend on contacts over the years is way more than the corrective surgery now. I chose for PRK (photo refractive keratectomy) vs. LASIK because I did not want to deal with the flap on my cornea. It is a longer recover time, and I was ok with that for long term benefits. I went from contacts at -2.5 (glasses 20/400 i think), to almost perfect as soon as I was done the very quick procedure. The procedure took maybe 4 minutes, and painless. I am currently 1 month post-surgery, I have 20/20 officially, and I made out the 20/15 line with some fuzziness. I had no pain throughout recovery, although my eyes felt like they were lightly scratched. My eyes were sensitive to light for about a week, but thats not so bad... wear sunglasses or close your eyes. The staff, including Dr. Sheth were all very professional, helpful, compassionate, and friendly. I did not feel rushed at all in any of my appointments. I work in the medical field, so I have seen both sides of the "hospital setting". Sheth-Horsley Eye Center was a great example of great medical care. The national average for having to get "touch ups" to make vision perfect after initial corrective surgery is 10%. I think that is pretty good. Dr Sheth has a 2% rate of returns. I think that is DAMN good! Overall: great experience worth every penny easy procedure I CAN SEE PERFECT NOW!!! I checked google for Opthamologists in my area, got a listing for this practice, but apparently the phone number listed ion search was not correct. I dialed five times and five times somebody answered- said nothing and hung up??? Curious I went to the website which had a box to fill out name e mail address and phone number and asked what I was seeking. So I filled out the box with all my information they requested and listed "Seeking an appointment" as my reason for contacting. I received no call. I had a great experience at Sheth-Horsley today. I've never been in love with any of the eye doctors that I've had so I was happy to try a new place once I was down to my last contact lens. The eye center is located in a larger medical building in suite 120- if you park at the far left building and go in the side door, it will be right to your right when you walk in. I was greeted by 2 friendly receptionists, filled out the required paperwork and insurance info in about 5 mins, and then was taken in for my appointment on time. My appointment lasted about an hour and was with Anna. She fitted me for contacts, wrote me a prescription for new contacts and glasses, ran numerous tests (including dilating my eyes) and it was a quick and painless experience. Checkout was done in 2 minutes. It's very, very convenient to my house so I'm happy to continue to go here for my annual exams! read more

It is now eight months after my lasik surgery. I am happy to say that my vision is still great, though not as sharp as it was right after the surgery. Having dry eyes definitely effects my vision. It is so nice not to have to wear contacts and to wake up in the morning and actually see. So, the bad news is that my up close vision has been slowly becoming more and more out of focus. I knew that this potentially was a side effect of the surgery and wouldn't get the monovision done. I also had this procedure done at an older age and my vision was already getting a little blurry when reading (with glasses) but was fine without glasses/contacts. Now, I am like my mother and holding things far away from me to be able to read them. It's a downside to lasik but to me it was well worth being able to see distance. My eyes are not as dry as they were after surgery but still occasionally dry -especially in rooms with air conditioning, fans, etc.. I continue to use over the counter drops and they certainly alleviate the dryness. I am hopeful that in time, the dryness will dissipate all together. read more

I purchased an online deal for LASIK/PRK at the Sheth-Horsley Eye Center. I admit that I felt some buyer's remorse and got worried about buying this kind of deal online. What if this is some shoddy doctor who isn't very good? Why would a doctor offer a deal like this online? Is there a reason why they are trying to lure more people into their office? What if I just committed to something that will ruin my eyes?!? Several of my friends voiced their concerns but I had already begun to do some research. I could not find any poor reviews. My prescription was not horrible, compared to others I know, but it was an inconvenience to wear contacts, nonetheless. I won't even consider glasses. I don't do well with medical procedures, so I was a little (LOT) nervous about the procedure. Dr. Sheth was very patient and answered all of my questions. I decided to get PRK instead of LASIK because he told me it is safer than LASIK and recommended more for athletes. The day of the surgery, he calmed my nerves by talking to me through the procedure. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The procedure itself was quick and painless but I was warned that PRK takes longer to heal than LASIK and that I should expect some discomfort for several days afterward. The recovery was really not bad at all-- much easier than I expected. My eyes felt like they were a little scratchy, but I would not say it was painful. The appointments with Dr. Sheth are brief but I never feel as though I am being rushed through. He takes the time to answer and discuss all questions and concerns. Everyone in the office I've been in contact with is very friendly, caring, and helpful. It is also a good sign that some of the employees there have had their procedures done by Dr. Sheth. Now I understand why I could not find any poor reviews of Dr. Sheth. I would highly recommend Dr. Sheth to anyone who has considered correcting their vision. Do not hesitate! Sharing what I see is an altogether unprofessional experience for a simple eye checkup at the Parrelli Optical Eye Center, with not one word of apology from the provider, Dr. Sonya Sheth of the Sheth-Horsley eye center or the army of staff at the Parrelli Optical Eye Center. I got my power checked a couple of months ago. I got glasses made online on the basis of that power online. The glasses felt extremely uncomfortable. I called them for a recheck of their prescription. They gave me an appointment 10 days later saying the provider (Dr. Sheth) would be available only on that day. When I reach on the designated day the provider is extremely curt, spends barely a minute with me, does no recheck whatsoever. Checks her records and says the power for the right eye was entered a whole point higher than what she had in their records. Thats it, no word of apology, she just goes about her business as usual, with a casual "does she have a copy of the updated power" to the counter staff. The people at the counter spend a great length of time explaining that while the power was entered wrong , online companies err on the pupil distance and axis. The provider does not even talk to me (the customer), spends all the time belittling online companies with her coworkers while I am there. I remind them they entered the power wrong, my appointment was for a recheckup. The provider never comes back, the staff only keep saying the online company also did the axis and pupil distance wrong. No apology still. They do offer to replace the lenses at the cost I paid to the online company ($150) with the promise of getting the glasses ready a week from now, which I took up. Had no more energy to fight with a 4 month old breastfeeding infant howling at home. Still no apology. I am supposed to live with the wrong glasses for atleast another week while I coughed up another $150 of my money for shoddy service. Why was I made to wait a week to see the provider who did not have the courtsey to communicate with respect, let alone do a reexam? Oh and in all of this the person at the counter made a casual remark of how bizarre it is that I still have a college email (poor PhD student here, but please mind your own business). I just left from there with absolutely no apology. The provider never came back to see me. Dont waste your money and energy and let your health be affected. Find another store with more professional staff all the way around. read more

know this will be long, but if you're doing research on where to do Lasik, it is worth a read. At my eye appointment in June of 2017, my doctor said that my prescription hadn't changed in two years. My eyes got progressively worse for 15 years and finally the time had come. I did research to find the BEST Lasik eye doctor, because I mean come on our sight is one of the most precious senses, and found Sheth and Horsley Eye Center. In August, I called and was able to schedule an appointment fairly quickly. I was taken late and surprised at how long the whole appointment took. I think sometimes they over book the doctors. Nevertheless, when I saw the doctors, they were informative as well as helpful. I had my appointment at the Stoneham office, so needed to go to Avant to do a test the following week. While at my appointment, the doctor asked if I wanted to do my surgery the NEXT WEEK! I had some other commitments so was not able to do the following week, but was extremely satisfied that they could move that quickly. You are asked the day of about how you will be paying for the surgery. I probably could of pushed the surgery later and made a different payment schedule, but it worked out. I scheduled my surgery and figured out the payment plan to pay for the surgery that day and had my prescriptions sent in so they would be ready before the surgery. I picked up my prescriptions a few days before the surgery. They were more expensive than I expected. I paid $80 for one set of drops, $50 for another set and $5 for the medication they provide. You also need to order preservative free artificial tears, which are also around $25. (This will be a continuous payment as you need to use these for a year). The night before you take one of the prescribed medicines to see how your body reacts. I was all set so the day of my surgery I arrived at Avant, with a friend because you can't drive. I was directed to take my medicine and had all of my other prescriptions checked. One of the eye drops were incorrect. The woman at the front desk told me it was an error on their end and called in the new prescription and told me it would be ready at the pharmacy after my surgery and to try and see if the pharmacy would take back my wrong prescription. I entered the prep room. It was cool and had two comfy chairs. The assistants prepped myself and the gentleman next to me with eye drops. After a while of waiting for the drops to set in, I was brought into the operating room. It felt like forever while I waited for everything to be prepared, but I was just nervous. The surgery went smoothly and only took about 12 minutes total. After I was done, I was brought into another room where I was greeted by my friend and got to sit in a massage chair for a while. I had some spots of blurry vision and my eyes continued to water, but for the most part. Everything was great! After leaving Avant, I went to my local pharmacy to pick up my new prescription. I asked if they would take back the other one and their policy states that even if unopened once it leaves the pharmacy, it can't be taken back. I was frustrated at the pharmacy as my eyes were watering all over the place, I paid for a prescription I didn't need and now I'm paying for the new one. I went home and slept for a few hours. When I woke up I HAD NO BLURRY VISION AND COULD SEE! Within the next week, I started getting a little nervous. One of my eyes seemed to have better sight than the other. When I went to my one week follow up I found out I did have different vision. My "bad eye" was reading 20/15 which is greater than 20/20 and my "good eye" reads at 20/10, which I didn't know was even possible! I explained the drop situation at my appointment and was told it would be looked into. The next appointment which was 1 month later, the doctor rectified my extra payment. This goes to show you that Sheth and Horsley go above and beyond for their patients. read more

I am 7 weeks post PRK and I don't know why I didn't do it sooner!!! I had been wearing glasses and contacts for over 15 years. I had been thinking of getting laser eye surgery for years and I finally made a consultation at the Sheth-Horsley eye center. My consultation was about an hour and a half. The difference between Lasik and PRK was explained and PRK was recommended. My eye surgery was scheduled about 2 weeks after my consultation. The surgery was painless. I experienced no discomfort. I had to take a few days off of work and couldn't drive for a few days. There are a lot of eye drops that need to be used post surgery. Use them, they help with the healing process. The staff is very nice, they know me by name when I walk in. Dr Sheth is very good at what he does. My vision was 20/25 the day after surgery. My vision is now 20/15 and should get clearer as the healing continues. I highly recommend this eye center! read more

I found this office several years ago. When I was starting as a client, I was not thrilled with the wait times and the desk staff did not seem to know what was happening. The medical professionals on the other hand were incredible and knew what they were doing. That alone kept me returning. I had Lasix surgery in 1 eye with Dr. Sheth in 2010 and that was a great experience. Everything went according to expectations and was better than expected. I now have one eye to see distance, (driving) and the other eye for reading; Monovision. This has kept me free of glasses and contacts these past five years and I have loved that freedom and flexibility. On this visit today, A much better experience right from the start.I checked in for my mid-morning appointment and they were ready to take me back to start my eye exam right away. Before I got LASIK, people who had it done told me that it was the best money they ever spent. Now I understand why... I am so happy with the procedure and for the care I received from Dr. Sheth and his team. I can see perfectly now (better than 20/20) and love not having to worry about my glasses or contacts! I have been wearing glasses for about 20 years. I was far sighted with astigmatism. I went to Dr Sheth to have Lasik surgery. The first appointment we went through the whole eye exam including eye dilation. We scheduled the surgery a week away. I showed up at a very nice facility for the eye surgery. When I went in there were 3 nice recliners with 2 guys waiting for the surgery. They prep you there, clean your eyes, drops etc. I also had already taken a couple of valium that they provide through a prescription. When I went in the room for the actual surgery Dr Sheth and assistance laid me on the chair and I just looked up at the device that was about to laser my eyes. A little nervous, but not to bad. He puts a plastic suction thing, didn't really get a good look at it, in one eye, it felt mostly like pressure, no big deal, my eyes were completely numb. They first cut the flap, which you can kind of notice, everything just goes blurry, like underwater. Then you stare at a green light and it was like 10-20 seconds of zaps. Didn't feel anything just kept telling myself not to move my eyes. You could smell a little burning smell. But all in all it is easy, easier then the dentist! After the laser is done he puts the flap down and smooths it out with milky liquid and a small paint brush, and yes you can see it but cant feel it. That only takes about a minute. Then he repeats the whole process on the other eye. The second eye gave me a little bit of discomfort, like I had something in my eye, and it was like that for the next 6-8 hours. For only that eye, it was not a pleasant 6-8 hours. I tried to sleep as much as I could. It was just constant tears flowing out if the eye. After that period i could open it and start to see. The showers were a little scary, but I used the goggles they provide and it was fine. I was scared a lot to damage my eyes if I rubbed them, but now I think it would have been very unlikely to damage them. Things we blurry in the beginning and would get better and then worse and then better, for a few weeks maybe months. I felt pressure like my eyes were tired and I wanted to sleep, but I'm pretty sure it is because I did not use the refresh tears enough. Well now I have 20/15 vision in each eye, 5 months after, and 20-10 with both eyes together. I use the drops very infrequently, maybe I should use them a little more, but I don't really feel like I need to. So all in all, had some anxiety throughout but I think it was absolutely worth it. The night before my Cataracts surgery I had some questions pertaining to my pre surgery medication. I called Dr. Sheth at 11pm and he returned my call within 10 mins. Dr. Sheth called me personally every day post surgery to see how I was progressing. He's an exceptional surgeon, patient, caring and very reachable. The staff is amazing. I got a Living Social deal for Lasik surgery at Sheth Horsley Eye Center... what a deal! I ended up getting PRK [basically the same as LASIK just no cutting of the cornea] and I am so glad I did it. My results are PHENOMINAL and I was seeing 20/20 or 20/15 at my 6 week check-up or so which is really good I was told. Karen, the LASIK coordinator is great! So super friendly and answered all of my questions - and I had A LOT! She responded to emails promptly which I really appreciated and I appreciated being given her email address so I wouldn't have to always call. Mia at the front desk is just as great! Such a sweet woman and very pleasant. Always made me feel welcomed and ALWAYS called me by my first name which I really appreciated. I have had three different eye assistants and the other doctor [i think her last name is rouse] help me when I went for my check ups... the two guys are GREAT. Super friendly, willing to make small talk so it's not awkward while they are checking out my eyes, and just overall very pleasant. The other doctor is okay, not very friendly...but always did her job. Dr. Sheth did a great job... he isn't overly friendly and isn't much of a talker, but I appreciate this as well because I just want to get in and get out for my post-op check ups. He did answer ALL of my questions in the beginning and when he was unsure of what I would be able to have done right away [LASIK or PRK] because my cornea seemed a bit too thin, he took extra precausions, did a trial test with my figures in the laser, and explained what was going on in terms that made sense to me and explored my options with me... when I asked him what he would do if it were him, he was honest and gave it to me straight. If you are considering LASIK then this is the place to go. And don't be afraid, it is AWESOME. I had an amazing experience from beginning to end. And the surgery was so easy. I had it done on a Thursday and was back to work on Friday. I experienced zero pain and can see perfectly now. It is so great to be able to see without glasses/contacts! Especially when you are on vacation, and on the beach, and in and out of the water! I referred one of my friends to Sheth Horsley Eye Center. This was my first eye exam ever and it was overall a mediocre experience. I would definitely steer clear of here if you're just getting a minor problem checked out. The tech made me feel stupid for going there, basically told me I was at the wrong place for an exam and the front desk wasn't particularly helpful at all. The tech and doctor clearly had problems with each other and told me conflicting opinions and argued in front of me, which I found unprofessional. The tech also seemed rushed/under pressure and upset, and therefore made errors. He used the wrong lens when testing my eye, and I had to tell him something strange was going on with my vision before he noticed. Additionally, they put in dialation eye drops before my eye exam was over? And the tech was rushing to finish the exam before my eyes were altered by the drops. I'm not sure if that affected anything since obviously I'm not an eye doctor, but it just felt weird. I definitely felt like there should be more attention to detail and a more positive work environment. Because my eye issue wasn't as serious (just a bit of blurriness) as other problems they work with, I felt like my problem wasn't taken seriously and that they didn't really solve or try to answer my issue at all. It was difficult to ask questions because I felt so uncomfortable. Overall I didn't feel cared for and will be getting a second opinion elsewhere. If my issue was too minor for them to care about, I wish they would have just told me I was at the wrong place so I could have gone to a more appropriate doctor. read more

After being turned down by another eye surgeon with not-as-modern techniques, I took the advice of a friend and tried Dr. Nilesh Sheth. From day one, I knew I was talking to an expert in the field of eye surgery. No wild promises either....he tells you up front that you may not get perfect vision at all three distances (near, middle, far) . In my opinion, Dr. Sheth is an expert both RLE (Refractive Lens Exchange) and PRK and I had both eyes done. He gave me a considerable discount for the PRK used to fine tune my vision. I had LASIK done back in November of 2011 by Dr. Sheth and it was BY FAR the best decision I had ever made! I started wearing glasses when I was 8 and contacts at age 13. My prescription consistently worsened year after year and I always had to get a stronger prescription. I work as an office manager during the day, so I sit in front of a computer & also teach dance at night. I can work very long days and it came to the point that whenever I had my contacts in, I couldn't wait to get home and take them out. I started to wear my glasses more often, but even that started to become a pain with teaching dance & being active and not to mention not being able to wear sunglasses unless they were a prescription pair. After knowing numerous people who had LASIK done by Dr. Sheth and only had great things to say, I decided to make a consultation. The initial consultation does take 2 hours. Dr. Sheth and his staff are extremely thorough (they even make you watch a quick video and answer a questionnaire afterwards). Dr. Sheth answered my questions honestly and without any BS, which I appreciate. Driving at night was frightening. Unfortunately, several doctors told me I wouldn't get satisfactory results from lasic or PRK. My only option was Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE). RLE is expensive. I thought about it for a couple of months and decided - of all the things that I've spent money on, this would probably be the best investment I've ever made (besides my education). I've worn glasses since I was eight years old, and since then, my vision had become progressively worse and worse. Flash forward to 2013. I am twenty-two, my eyes have stopped becoming worse for the last few years, but my vision was quite awful. My prescription was -5.25 on my left eye and -4.25 on my right eye, and I had astigmatism in both eyes. After having my eyes evaluated, Dr. Sheth determined that I was an eligible candidate for LASIK surgery. Even though I've been considering corrective eye surgery for years, I was still very, very nervous. The very thought about the procedure would send shivers down my spine. However, the procedure was painless and quick! It took less than 10 minutes for Dr. Sheth to work on one eye. After the LASIK, Dr. Sheth took a quick look at both eyes to make sure the eyes are okay. At this point, things were foggy. I went home and slept as I was instructed to. By the time I woke up, I could actually see things fairly clearly. The only pain I felt was actually from the suction device that was used during the surgery. It left a bruise on my right eye. Bruises are very common apparently. (Right now as I am typing this, it's been a month and my bruise is 95% gone. There is only a faint bit of pink where the bruise use to be!) The next day, I could see 20/20! A week later, I could make out the 20/15 line with the help of some eye drops since my eyes felt very dry, but I was a solid 20/20. Right now, I am a month in, and my eyes are just getting better! My eyes used to feel dry when I wake up in the morning, but they are much better now. I still use eye drops as instructed, of course. I am very happy with my results, and I have Dr. Sheth and his staff to thank. They are very friendly and professional. Also, I actually had a very limited medical insurance plan that only allowed me to get prescriptions in my home state and at a specific pharmacy. I had Lasix surgery August 23 2012 done by Dr. Sheth and today I just came back from my eye exam and learned that I still see better than 20/20. The surgery was so quick, probably only 5 minutes and painless. It has been amazing to not have to wear glasses or contacts anymore. I definitely recommend going to Sheth-Horseley Eye Center to have the surgery done by Dr. Sheth. Everyone in the office is so kind and helpful. Last year when I called to book the appointment, they scheduled me the next day for a free evaluation to see if I could have the surgery. I'm a police officer who's been wearing some type of vision aid for the last 33 years. I often thought how nice it would be to wake up and see the sky outside my window, but I was too afraid to get Lasix surgery. I didn't want to take the risk. I love and respect my eyes and I didn't want to lose what vision I had (20/600). However, when I was recently assigned to the overnight shift, dry eyes began and contact wearing became difficult, and that's when I considered Lasik for real. The eyes are numbed with liquid eye drops so really and truly, you feel nothing. There is slight discomfort when the eyelid is stabilized with a cup so doctor can work, but nothing - nothing that warrants any attention. I'm only writing about it because others have and I want you to know that that bit of fleeting discomfort is no reason to pass on perfect vision. I'll end by saying that it's been about six weeks and I still find myself thinking, "I've got to get up and get these contacts out" before I quickly come to the realization that I'm not wearing contacts! and then I smile...... I had been pondering the idea of vision corrective surgery for some time. For years I had been wearing some very thick glasses, as I was terribly far-sighted. I did some research on Sheth-Horsley Eye Center and decided to schedule an appointment to see what they could offer me. From the start, the staff were very friendly and professional, even though they were running a variety of tests on my eyes they made it a point to make me feel comfortable. After all tests were run, I met with Dr. Sheth himself, and he was just as professional and friendly as the rest of his staff. We went over my options, the risks and benefits associated with each, and Dr. Sheth answered any questions I had about any of the procedures. I decided on Lasik and less than a month later I went in for surgery. Like before, the staff remained professional and kept me informed on everything that was going on throughout the process. For those who are nervous at the thought of surgery on their I eyes I will admit I was slightly nervous myself, but there wasn't any pain during the procedure. After it was all said and done I would do it all over again if given the chance. After the surgery, which did not take much more than a couple minutes per eye (the pre-surgery process takes the majority of the time), I went home and took a quick nap. Once I woke up I was amazed to notice I could read my phone without my eyes straining, I was amazed as time passed and the slight blurring began to clear up over the next few days. My follow up visits the day following surgery and 5 days after showed my vision had gone from what can only be described as terrible, to 20/20. I am now one week post-surgery and can see just fine. It's been almost a year since my LASIK surgery and I can officially say that I'm happy I chose Sheth-Horsley Eye Center. The staff members there are wonderful. The receptionists are very warm and inviting. You feel very welcomed as soon as you walk through the door. The initial consultation was a bit lengthy but when it comes to your sight and/or well being you want every aspect reviewed and confirmed. Dr. Sheth was very thorough and precise. He informs you of what to expect and reassures you of his expertise in the field. The surgery was quick and painless. The recovery was a bit more difficult to cope with due to the dryness of your eyes (a normal side effect of LASIK surgery) but it does subside over time. So now here I am 2 months shy of a year with 20/15 vision and no complaints. In the end, my advice to anyone contemplating whether or not LASIK is for them is to choose Sheth-Horsley Eye Center as your first place to turn to. YOU WON'T REGRET IT! read more

I had used corrective lenses for nearly 25 years and long desired to have my eyes corrected permanently. Nearly 2 years ago I finally made the plunge and found Dr. Sheth to be a highly regarded practitioner in the area. After an initial consultation, we determined that I was a fine candidate for laser eye surgery, but based on active lifestyle it was recommended that I undergo PRK instead of LASIK. Dr. Sheth was very informative and helped weigh out the pros and cons of each before we settled on an action plan. We were able to get the surgery scheduled in pretty short order and the experience was exactly as he had described it would be. Throughout the experience (including follow-ups) I found him to be an excellent doctor and I received great care, with my resulting vision now better than perfect at 20/15. The ONLY reason I am deducting one star is that in all the appointments I've had, I don't think I've experienced a wait time of less than an hour. This is not a knock against the staff (very friendly), the office (very clean and comfortable), or even Dr. Sheth (very professional), and it probably speaks volumes on its own (you don't have that many patients stacking up unless you're really good at what you do). That being said, I don't give out 5 star reviews lightly and can't bring myself to call it perfect when I know that a 45-minute follow up appointment is going to take up the better part of an afternoon. My vision was 20/400. My prescription was -5.75. I could not see two inches in front of my face. That was before Sheth-Horsley Eye Center gave me the gift of sight! I got glasses in 1989, and had glasses and contacts for over 20 years. I only own sunglasses now! Previously, every morning when I woke up I fumbled around for my glasses, feeling around blindly until my hands landed on them. Some mornings I would inadvertently knock my glasses off of the nightstand, and I would be crawling around on hands and knees just trying to find my glasses, borderline crying from frustration. It was miserable. Sometimes I would be late for work because of it. When I eventually found my glasses, it was off to the bathroom to stick contact lenses in my eyes. I resented my eyes every morning when I did this, knowing that in six to eight hours, my eyes would be dry and itchy, and I'd start to get a headache. Not to mention that simple things like sweating, swimming, or using sunblock added a whole new list of dangers to my eyes/eyesight. Another thing I NEVER have to worry about again? Breaking my glasses! A few times I was out enjoying my life when my glasses broke, and I was unable to drive home. Someone else would had to drive my car home for me. How embarrassing!!! Also, so many times I fell asleep with my glasses on, only to wake up with them bent out of shape or broken. Now that I visited Sheth-Horsley Eye Center, and Dr Sheth performed the procedure on me, my life has changed. I see the world completely different now. Every single day there is at least one moment when I think about how grateful I am that I took the trip to Sheth-Horsley. Let me give you some insight into my new life: I wake up, and I can see. This alone made the procedure worth it. I've lived in apartments for a while, and sometimes I get woke up by noises. Now I am immediately able to jump out of bed and investigate without scrounging around for my glasses. On normal days, however, I wake up and get myself ready, without ever worrying about my glasses or contacts. It's great that I can see while I'm in the shower, and I don't have to worry about my contacts washing out of my eyes. DON'T FORGET THE BEACH! Aside from not worrying about the sweat and sunscreen factors... I can freely play in the ocean waves without a worry in the world. Previous to my procedure I had to be very cautious with every passing wave! NOW I CAN ACTUALLY ENJOY THE BEACH! Even the smaller things in life, like not worrying about the reflection of lights on my glasses at concerts, night-driving, or not being able to properly see through binoculars or telescopes - things of the past. I already mentioned how great each morning is, but each day I actively give thanks for my new eyes at bed-time as well. Quite often I fell asleep with my glasses on while reading a book or watching TV. Then I wake up and have no idea where they went, and there is always the possibility that I have rolled on top of them and bent them, or knocked them off my bed, which leads me to crawling around on my hands and knees. I'm so glad those days are over. Honestly though, I think I am most grateful upon waking and going to sleep for different reasons than those I already mentioned. Every night as I fall asleep and each morning when I wake, I can see the woman I love as I should be able to see her, in her natural beauty AND in focus. There has been no greater gift for me. So, let's do some math: A pair of glasses cost an average of $250 bi-annually. A four month supply of contacts cost $50, or $150 annually: $125 (half cost of glasses) + $150 (contacts) + $50 (office visit) + $140 (contact solutions, about $14 every three weeks) for a total of = ABOUT $465 A YEAR! This is without prescription sunglasses or any additional costs like broken glasses or formal glasses! I'm saving a boat load of money now! I could have saved myself almost $10,000 in the time I had glasses and contacts! About the SHETH-HORSLEY EYE CENTER experience: The staff is incredible. I really can't stress that enough. I wish I could remember all of their names so I could thank each one of them on here. From the beautiful and very well organized receptionists, to the young guy who prepped me each visit (great sense of humor), to the very talented Karen, all the way to the doctor himself, the staff made me feel like family. I am very comfortable visiting there (they also have a great selection of K-cup coffee!). The procedure itself was PAINLESS, and it only took a few minutes. I am scared of people touching my eyes, and honestly, this was very quick and easy. I could actually see by the end of the day, and was back to normal the next day. I've worn glasses since I was in fourth grade, and after years and years of dealing with fogged up and greasy lenses, I finally decided to get a consultation for corrective surgery. I did my research and ended up at Sheth-Horsley. The consultation was VERY thorough, and they did various measurements using some very advanced looking equipment. I ended up going for PRK surgery, which given my eye type (corneal thickness etc), seemed safer. Now, there are some real horror stories about PRK surgery online, including those who compare the post-recovery pain to childbirth. I think it's always useful to see what potentially could go wrong, but if you have an active imagination like I do, reading these 24 hours before the procedure does not help! That said, the surgery was conducted by Dr. Sheth. They really try to make everything as comfortable as possible. After popping a valium, the actual procedure was painless and only took about two minutes an eye. It wasn't the most pleasant thing in the word, but I've had teeth cleanings that have been worse. I got a slew of medication and eye drops, including pain medication, and had a friend drive me home. The next few days I had eyesight fluctuations and sensitivity to brightness (all normal), but I was thrilled that there was no pain at all. I mentioned this at a later appointment, and Dr. Sheth said he does PRK surgery in a way to minimize the pain. The main negative with PRK is the long recovery time, but after about two weeks I felt my eyesight was pretty good (maybe 80% of perfect 20/20 vision). I'm at the one month point and my vision is close to 20/20. My eyes are still recovering (things still get a bit blurry at night), but I'm happy and they should continue to improve in the next month or two. In all, if you're thinking about getting corrective surgery, I wouldn't hesitate to go to Sheth-Horsley for a consultation. About me, I started wearing glasses in the Military 20 yrs ago. I HATED it, the lack of peripheral vision, falling off, trying to shoot, branches knocking them off, etc, etc. I quickly got contact lenses, but they were a pain out in the woods when you need to take them out and put back in living in a dirty environment with dirty hands. Trying to swim, sleep, dry eyes, dust, etc. Then needing to see a doctor every time you need to buy more got expensive. Fast forward 20 yrs, I live in Maine in a cabin, I'm very active in the woods. Wearing contacts or glasses just became a huge issue for the same reasons as in the military. I search the internet and did a lot of research about lasik and lasik providers. I learned that the cheap "affordable" places are more like your Ford motor assembly line of Lasik companies and you don't get the personal vision correction YOUR eyes need. For example maybe your left eye needs different than your right, well they give you the same correction for both. I found the Sheth Horsley eye center to be the best choice for me. Located a few towns away from my parents I was able to stay with them during the process. The whole process from first visit to last was great. The surgery itself was fantastic. It took maybe 10 mins. NO Pain. If you ever had a teeth cleaning, speeding ticket, or even did you own taxes, lol, lasik was easy and quick. It was a cake walk, really. After the surgery they put you in a massage chair while waiting for your ride to pick you up. After the surgery my eyes were sensitive to light(they give you sun glasses) the first day and it's normal. I took a nap and woke up fine, and seeing 20/20. Lasik is the best thing I've ever done for myself and wish I had done it earlier. read more
