We have been using Sherwin Wiliams paint since I1986 and this store since its opening. We go back because we like the paints and really appreciate the staff. The staff have always been helpful. Our latest experience has topped and the others. We were helping one of our daughters choose colors for her new house. My wife left her phone by the paint chips. We didn't realize it until the store was closed. We went back next morning a little before opening. The staff member knew exactly why we were there and brought it to us. read more

Many, many experiences and years of color-matching paint at other stores were always successful and spot-on. We even tested a color match with the same colors at a different store first which was again, successful, but thought we would try it in SW brand in case it was better quality/protection for exterior paint. Unfortunately this was our first ever experience where a store did not get a color match right and now we're stuck with expensive paint that we hate. Yes, it goes without saying obviously we should have tested it first but after so many experiences of testing so many colors and finishes at other stores going swimmingly and feeling we needed to buy the supply of paint before the sale ended- we foolishly felt confident this would go well. I'm sure you are more intelligent or at least have common sense enough to not make our dumb mistake based on all our prior perfect color matching experiences elsewhere. Save being horrified at all the paint you have in a color that makes you cringe and keep up the testing no matter how perfect the track record has been, and maybe it was a one-off but perhaps especially for this brand? Obviously this is just one experience which is why I didn't give one star, but thought I would share to help others resist the temptation to skip the step that we skipped here. read more

Went to get paint and a few other things on 6/27 at 3:30pm and Serena, which might have been the only employee at the store that day, was amazing. She explained what kind of paint we needed for each of the job we needed to get done, explained prices and how each kind of paint differed from the rest. She was also helping other two clients, which was impressive given the service she offered. Highly recommend! read more

After living in Berkeley for 11.5 years I only discovered this paint supply store. THe few times I have been in the store there have been few other customers. The store is clean and the workers are pleasant, knowledgable and accommodating. What more could a customer want? They have parking and free coffee too. I'm glad it's my secret. This is our go-to paint store! The manager, Chuey, is always welcoming and quick to fill orders! Samantha is such a sweetheart and fabulous at matching colors. They have an excellent display and color selection area so I always feel comfortable sending clients in to look at colors. The store is always clean and well stocked. When I call in an order they have it filled on time. The paint products themselves are top-notch! They are excellently priced for such high quality; no need to spend an arm and a leg at one of the "Moore's"! Keep a look- out for their sales too, best deal in town. read more

Customer service was AMAZING. Matching and choosing paint colors is stressful to say the least. I went in with an ancient paint can almost unopenable. Miranda and Serena to the rescue. They were willing to get the can open to make sure I was happy with the match job. Also, taped up the can so that It wouldn't spill on the way home. Most of the time when I go in there, the other customers are professional painters. I don't often have to wait in line. This is important to me. They have my paint colors on file, so I can get the same colors again and again. They did a decent job of paint matching something I'd already had. We did do a verbal back and forth to make sure the color was just so. As a result of the careful negotiations, I was able to only use one coat of paint instead of multiple coats, because the match was so good. My only beef (and it does not rate a - on stars) is that I wish they carried the consumer model Wagner "Sidekick" roller pump and accessories. OSH carries that, which means I need to wait in line with the rest of the weekend warriors. read more

The first time I went to this Sherwin Williams, I was looking for a special tool I saw online for floating out textured walls called Magic Trowel. The online tutorial mentioned that it could be found online or at better paint stores such as Sherwin Williams. At first I went to Benjamin Moore because they were the closest paint store selling quality paints, then I went to Kelly Moore because they were across the street. Neither store carried this tool. Not wanting to waste more time going from store to store where they may not have the tool, I decided to go directly to Sherwin Williams eventhough they were farther from my home. The store is easy to pass up and then you have to drive all the way around the block to get back to their entrance on San Pablo Ave where there is a small parking lot directly in front of their door. I described the tool I was looking for and though the young man helping me was not familiar with the specific tool, he brought me to the area where painting tools are displayed and we found it right away. Excellent service. I wish I could remember his name. Because I had such a positive experience, I went back there a few weeks later when I was ready to pick out paints. I brought samples of my tile, cabinets and flooring. This time, Darrell helped me and he made the process so quick and easy! He helped me decide which paint quality and finish I wanted for each room, then took me straight to the range of colors that was likely to work best. Instead of choosing dozens of colors and agonizing over them, the narrower range made it much easier to make my final selections. I took home sample chips of the 3-4 colors that I was pretty sure about--just to check the colors in the rooms, then called them a couple of days later to place the order. Angel offered to help me with the paint order because Darrell happened to be at lunch (this was the late afternoon) and told me that it would be ready in about 30 minutes. He called me back about 10 minutes later to tell me that he needed more time. I really appreciated that call! I needed 15 gallons of paint and was not at all surprised that it would take more time. I told them I would pick it up the next day instead which worked out better for them. The paint was ready for me when I went to pick it up. I paid and Darrell helped me load it into my van. EASY! Their paints are high quality and pretty expensive so be sure to get a coupon or ask about discounts. The service at this Sherwin Williams is the best I've experienced in any paint store. Maybe I went at a good time each time, but I sensed that they have really good employees who are eager to do a good job. I don't know what their secret is, but someone there knows how to hire. read more

I hate this place. I occasionally have to go here to pick up specialty items that aren't available elsewhere but I always dread it. The staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful. There is one girl who is nice but not that knowledgeable. The rest of the staff take their cues from the manager who is just a nasty guy. Don't make the mistake of walking up to the counter and thinking he will ring up your purchases. Even though he's standing back there, he's waaaay to important to take your money. I guess he's got too much important manager stuff going on to help the customers. read more

Don't go here. Very overrated. Got color wrong 2 times on their own paint - I had all original formulas ( from SW) for paint in my house, just wanted to get more paint to refresh the walls in living room and bedroom and paint a new color in 2nd bedroom. Even though I had the formulas for 1gallon buckets and a new color I picked out for 2nd bedroom ( got sample size jar to pick out the color) SW used the wrong base paint and sheen which messed up the color for all my paint original paint, and couldn't match the color of the sample jar paint ( which I got from one of their color slides a day prior) in a gallon size. They refused to give money back and wanted to remix the paint. This time they avoided using their own color formula and tried to match their own colors via the color scanner tool. What the heck? The whole point of me Going to SW was so I could match the paint exactly to what the previous owner used - I had the cans and formulas!!!! Finaly I got them to refund the money on one of the cans and somewhat match the other. I turned around took my refunded money to home depot, bought their most premium interior paint (Baer ultra plus with primer built in) which was cheaper than SW's cheapest grade they gave me ($36). Color matched perfectly to SW sample jar and they worked with me on getting the base paint and sheen correct ( match the original paint). I had to take time off work to go into SW twice to get the paint color fixed, both times failed( even for the slide color they had - couldn't match the sample jar formula to the gallon size!!!). They close at 6pm which leaves no time for after work trip. Get your paint at Home Depot!!! read more

I was looking for a specific type of cleaner and called to see if they had it in stock. I was told that they had it on their shelves and to come on down. When I got there, I found out he actually didn't check his stock and had lied to me. An hour of fighting traffic to find out that he could order it for me. I LOVE this Sherwin-Williams Paint Store! It has a cozy neighborhood feeling . ALL of the employees are super personable and very knowledgable about their products. When choosing colors for my Spanish Revival Home they were able to help me think outside-of- the- box and choose bold yet classic colors. The store is always tidy and it has a great selection of colors to choose from. Twice now , I had colors matched (by Samantha and Shane ) and they did an EXCELLENT job of matching the colors.
