The food here is amazing! We ordered the garlic and Punjabi naan and they were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend both. The Punjabi has coconut, saffron, and sweet spices...my favorite. Our entrees consisted of Butter Chicken: tender chicken in a creamy tomato sauce that melted in your mouth. We ordered everything extra spicy but it was more flavorful than spicy. Our Chicken Vindaloo was very good but the star of the show was the Fish Masala, very similar flavor as the Butter Chicken but the Haddock really soaked up the spices. The basmati rice was the perfect accompaniment, as was the scrumptious relishes and chutney that come with the meal. The Indian iced tea was to die for...spicy and refreshing. Best iced tea in Maine. Service was warm and friendly, very nice folks...they seated us by the window which we thought was the best seat in the house. Loved everything about this place. Food was fantastic, service was great and atmosphere was comfortable and a great place for a large group or family gathering... there was 7 of us! I've been meaning to get around to writing this for a very long time. This is and continues to be the best Indian food I've eaten in the United States. The owner is unbelievably friendly and involved. I think I've eaten half their menu with my own customized spiciness level (14 on a 1-10 scale). The Chicken Tikka Masala is perfectly balanced and the Butter Chicken is its creamier cousin. Nevertheless, the Aloo Mutter is the perfect, heavier vegetarian dish with well-priced flatbreads on the side. The free papadan and chutney is awesome. The billing system is kind of a pain, but that's how smaller businesses work. I love Shere Punjab and come back as often as I can. read more

I really want to like this place. I really do. It smells fantastic, and my boyfriend raved about it when we met last year. He lives out in the woods, so we stop here for takeout at least twice a month, and something has been wrong with every single order we've placed. The saag paneer was so over-salted, we couldn't eat it; ditto the malai kofta. We ordered shahi paneer and arrived home to find they'd given us navratan korma instead. They've given us the wrong dishes, the wrong spice level, the wrong naan - and because we usually don't eat till a few hours after picking up, there's no way for us to register a complaint or return the food to the kitchen. Would it be rude to open the containers and check before we leave the restaurant? read more

I went to Shere Punjab last night and never again. The restaurant was not crowded but it took over 45 minutes to get our food. The food was okay but not worth the extremely long wait. We split the bill 3 ways and had each asked for change back for 20s. No change came back so I had to go ask for change - I had no intention of giving that large a tip after waiting so long. Ate there recently. Service was fair. Help was friendly. Two bites into my lamb saag, I had to pull a long hair from the back of my mouth. We live in Brunswick and eat at Shere Punjab frequently. We are never disappointed with the quality of the food, the service or the atmosphere. Everything they make is delicious. Consistently good food but service tends to be lacking.

I have been to this restaurant many times and the service is consistently bad. It often takes an hour to order and get food. Once they seated us by a window that was very cold and wouldn't let us move, so we huddled under our jackets for the hour until the food came out. Everything about this first dining experience at Shere Punjab impressed me. The atmosphere inside is relaxed, excellently decorated and the music was at a great volume to be able to just chat and hangout. We were greeted instantly at the door and sat next to the window which was very comfortable. Every single item of food was cooked and spiced to perfection. We got shrimp and lamb curry, garlic naan bread and lassi to drink. The staff were prompt with taking our order, getting our food out, answering questions we had about different sauces and foods. They treated us so well and even laughed with us. We will be returning regularly, without a doubt. I recommend this restaurant to absolutely anyone that has a love for Indian food, you won't be disappointed. read more

Not that I know Indian food that well, this was my first Indian food experience really - but it was yummy. And since I've been, I have gone to other Indian restaurants, and this one, is by far, the best. I love that they give you the papadum and tasting chutneys. Really good. Wow. This is some darn good and FRESH Indian food! I don't throw around five stars easily, but I am absolutely coming back soon. This is a place with passion about their food and service. Chicken from the tandoori oven (crisp and yellowish, marinated in yogurt) was amazing - and the sauce on the side (an orange colored tomato type sauce) was incredible. I really enjoyed this place. We sat right away, the service was great. I had butter lamb. The butter sauce was so good, I can't wait to go back and try butter chicken. Coconut soup was interesting, good flavor, very coconutty texture. Naan was good but buttery. Butter chicken, freaking awesome and sexy. Man we wanted to keep taking bites of that. Stopped in at this wonderful restaurant after seeing a movie nearby. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was incredible and made to our hotness tolerance. We had the Punjab Special Vegetarian appetizer, all of which was crispy and flavorful especially with the yummy trio of sauces provided. Next was the Mango Chicken which was "close your eyes and moan" good. We think it's some of the best Indian food either of us has ever had. read more

Honestly, this is the best Indian food I've ever had. I can't speak for everything on the menu, but I can promise you that if you order chicken tikka, plus garlic naan, you wont't be disappointed! Generous portion sizes, a variety of chutneys free of charge, and perfectly cooked/seasoned food. I have lived in Brunswick my entire life, and all of my friends and I agree that this is one of the best-- if not the best-- places in the town. This place has great food. I have eaten in the restaurant many times and have experienced great service, but my best experiences are when events are catered by this restaurant. By catered, I mean they provided food. They don't provide waiter services. I liked the catered events the most because I always got to try a large variety of foods and they have a fairly extensive menu. In the last three years, I've only gone to Bombay Mahal once and received terrible service. Even though Shere Punjab is a few clocks farther than Bombay, it is ALWAYS worth the walk. Their food is well seasoned, well cooked, and has never been a disappointment. Their management and waitstaff are also very attentive and accommodating. My friend once needed to cater an event, but she did not receive school funding for it until after the event had already occurred. The owner was nice enough to allow her to pay it at a later date even though the food had already been eaten (Keep in mind that she has used this restaurant once or twice before for catering). read more

When you walk through the door the curry and the smell of basmati permeate your sense of smell; we were quickly seated in the "window seat" and ordered from a gentleman who is the owner. We ordered some mint raita to accompany our meal along with the mint chutney, mango chutney (which was a puréed chutney) along with pickled red peppers which were a bit spicy - a nice accompaniment to the methi poori/papadum which was brought to our table upon arriving - which was laced with fenugreek seeds. For the main courses we ordered tandoori chicken that came with a wonderfully, warmly spiced sauce on the side; served on a cast iron serving dish, the base hosted a nice amount of onions and green peppers, topped with the wonderfully marinated Tandoori chicken, cilantro and a wedge of lemon to squeeze over all; we also ordered the chicken tikka masala - a must have - the spices were melded so nicely and the flavor was really superb. We also ordered the garlic naan - how else are you going to get every tasty bit of sauce off your plate? The spice levels are 1-10 and since we had never been we started with a level 3; pretty sure I will increase it next time to 4. The service was wonderful, the food was comforting on a brisk sunny day. They have a lunch menu with a nice selection of choices ranging from $7.95 to $8.95. I look forward to returning soon and expanding my choices of the extensive menu which I have every confidence will taste as great as our first visit! read more
