I'm surprised to see such mixed reviews of this place! This bar is located on the boardwalk in Shoreline Village, overlooking the water. They have outdoor and indoor seating, as well as a pool table. There is a great beer selection, and the bar tenders were all very accommodating, and let us taste test a few of the beers before we decided on what to drink. Every day they have different drink or food specials. We had $2 Mexican Beers since it was a Tuesday, and some fish tacos, which were inexpensive and delicious. Shenanigans was truly outstanding last Sunday afternoon. An Irish band, Sligo Rags was performing there, so the place was pretty well filled - all of the tables inside and most of the seats at the bar were already taken. There are two seating patios as well; the one out front was nearly empty due to the imminent threat of rain, whereas the patio overlooking the harbor was half-filled. Fortunately, we managed to score a table indoors as a couple was leaving... so, yay! There were only three servers working that day and the guests kept them busy. Rather than an assigned waitress for each station, they were working what appeared to be a tag-team system wherein you merely flagged down whoever was closest. Surprisingly, it seemed to work well and service was efficient, accurate, and very friendly. Despite all of the Irish fare listed on the menu, I was in the mood for a sandwich and decided upon Erin's Cheese Steak sandwich with seasoned fries...phenomenal! Either that was the best Cheese Steak sandwich I'd ever dated or else I was starving. Regardless, I enjoyed every single morsel. The meat was sooo tender and delicately seasoned. The French roll tasted bakery-fresh even though I'm certain it was not baked on-site. The steak fries were cooked to perfection and lightly salted - beyond that there also appeared to be some additional seasoning that I couldn't quite identify. The entertainment was fantastic. The interior layout of Shenanigans suggested terrible acoustics, but the band sounded crisp and the volume was perfect at our little table in the corner. The only drawback is the lack of restroom facilities. There are public restroom facilities just outside the pub and around the corner, but they closed at some point for unknown reasons, leaving patrons to queue up at the one single-stall restroom inside the restaurant. read more

The only reason why they got two stars is because they seated our table of 16 with no hassle. Other than that the food was less than ok. The menu is missing a lot of items that should be on a pub menu. And the items they have are just average with the exception of what i ordered, that was bad. I ordered the corn beef burger. The concept is great but the corn beef was the most driest piece of meat I have ever tasted. My wife had the salad which had so much dressing that it was dripping when she picked it up with her folk. My friend ordered the turkey club that looked great but when you held it you realized that it had 2 pieces of turkey attached to 30 lbs of iceberg lettuce. My son ordered the sample menu. When the menu states " sample" you are really getting a sample. we got two potato wedges, three wings 3 mozzarella sticks and some other frozen fried item. My mother had to send her burger back because it was cold. When asking the server why it was cold he replied " yea they usually cook the burgers first". REALLY?? I guess the only reason why this place survives is because it is at a tourist spot and every day people from everywhere but LONG BEACH see's " irish pub" and thinks " how can you go wrong". well at shenanigans they defiantly pull some SHENANIGANS when is comes to selling Irish food. read more

I really wanted to like this place. This review is based on service and not on F&B since we did not get that far. We came on a weekday evening for a late dinner after the "dinner rush". The menu was available via QR code which was convenient. We waited approximately 10 minutes to be seated which was understandable due to COVID protocols. Other nearby restaurants were quoting 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait times so this place was a no brainer. However once we sat, we waited approximately 12 minutes (I timed) before being greeted by a waiter. Industry standard is 2 minutes and the restaurant wasn't busy at the time we were sat. There were two other tables in our section. Twelve minutes may not sound long but if you put yourself in the guests' position it seems like an eternity especially if the server walked by them a few times without as much as a "hello, I'll be right with you". When the server finally stopped by touch our table, he was unapologetic and was unable/unwilling to answer simple questions about the bar offerings. At this point, we just left and walked up the road to the Dubliner. I've managed restaurants and bars for 15+ years and timeliness of service and menu knowledge are fundamental. I wasn't expecting corporate level service like Ritz-Carlton or Yard House from a Mom-and-Pop spot but at least the basics. read more

I've written before about this former favorite when I learned they stopped serving my brand of beer (that I could overcome) and the steamed clams that we frequently ordered (harder to overcome). Still, we came back several times but the last will likely be the last! My gf ordered a side of fries with her order but had to send them back because they were cold and stale. I ordered fish and chips...they were good, but I like fish cocktail sauce with mine rather than catsup or tarter sauce. No problem...they brought me two small paper mini-cups. However, when I received my check I learned they charged me 50 cents each!! No, not a lot of money but I felt nickle and dimed! There are few times in life when something so simple as fish and chips, that would have been utterly delicious, can be ruined and eskewed by absolutely horrible service. I came to this pub, enticed by the warm vibe. I adore Irish pubs, and this one knows how to do the fish right. Their chips, awful. Their service... well, I wouldn't really call it service. I have never felt so alone in a crowd full of 75 people. They did not come to check on myself and my two friends once in the 35 minutes we dined. I presented this information to the waiter, and she simply smiled, replied with a nonchalant "ok" and carried on with her day. It was a very frustrating situation because I wanted to love this place. With fish like this, I could ignore the bad chips. But the bad service eclipsed what could have been a fantastic experience for my mouth. read more

There was a couple sitting right in front having a dry humping session and no one said anything to them it was completely raunchy and sad. What was suppose to be a fun Labor Day couple weekend, we noticed a lot of kids around & couldn't enjoy our time out with friends because this place was surrounded with babies & kids everywhere in the bar!! Great band but we couldn't dance because the kids took over the dance floor , REALLY??? This place should not be a family friendly place especially where alcohol is being served. Came here yesterday to meet up with friends. First time here. Food: Got wings (all 3 flavors), Corn beef sliders and Ahi. Food was delicious! My bf and I were pleased and surprised at how good everything was. Service: Not so great. We were outside and no one ever came to greet us so my bf went inside to get our drinks at the bar. He asked the bartender if he should order food from her and she said a waitress should have greeted us at our table. Anyway, he got a menu from the bar and came back outside with our drinks. Luckily the band outside entertained us so we weren't too bored waiting for someone. A waitress didn't come until about another 10 minutes later. She was ok, but seemed rushed and sure enough right after we got our food she asked us to close out because she was leaving for the day. I'm a server too and I totally get that she wants her tip but we were still eating and she seemed irritated that our group wanted to split our checks.
