I don't know what it is about this place. I like it and dislike it all at once. The bartenders are okay. They're nice, but they're eh. So I read the other reviews and there are a few things I would like to contradict: Firstly, the service has been nothing but wonderful for me. I work in bar/restaurant industry and I was impressed by how catered to I was. Hasn't mattered what day or what time or who was working, the employees were so on it I nearly felt pampered. My first time in I was going to go sit at the bar and watch a game and have a beer, the place was PACKED and I hadn't even barely got through the door before one girl asked me if I needed anything. I told her I was headed to the bar and she asked what I wanted to drink so that she could get my order in right away while I scootched my way up there. Only took another thirty seconds to find myself a seat and I had barely sat down before boom my beer was placed in front of me. And the girl, despite busyness, said hi and asked how my day had gone and checked in to make sure I was pleased with my beer. All smiles. I think customer connection is SO IMPORTANT and I can not stress enough how just that little interaction got my whole experience off on a wonderful foot. And it wasn't just that time, it's been every time. Second, Scott W. needs to take off his Superman shirt because the only thing super about him is his dickishness. I'm sorry, I've tried Gallagher's a few times, and if I never ever go back I think my quality of life will only be better. As much as he wants to stress it, they aren't some authentic Irish bar either. Maybe Scott hasn't noticed, but there is an "Irish Pub" on pretty much EVERY SINGLE block in Long beach, and none of them are going to be the slice of Ireland he seems to demand. I have personally never been to Ireland, so I'm not on a hunt to reconnect with it, but I value experience. Gallagher's in particular, not only were the servers slow and unhelpful but the customers were obnoxious too. And the location isn't anywhere near as enjoyable. Shenanigans is new and building, but I think they are off to a wonderful start, reasonably priced, and the food is delicious. Also as far as crowd goes, I've mostly seen older Long Beachers, boat owners, Yacht Club fellas, and only the occasional tourist. A well-rounded crowd for a nice time! I go to Shenanigans at least a couple times a week. Sometimes with friends, sometimes with coworkers, sometimes with my dogs (who are treated like ROYALTY), and sometimes alone. Sometimes I'm there to watch a game, or sketch, or just zone out with a coffee and beer and watch the boats and the sunset. The owners always come say hi and check in, which I absolutely LOVE. And the bartenders? I think ONCE I've specified how I like certain things and certain drinks specific ways, and I haven't had to say it again because they remembered. Also, every time I go I meet someone new sitting at the bar or on the patio and end up with an evening of lovely conversation. And the music? LOVE IT. So in short, I love this place in every aspect. Being in the industry I am exceedingly pleased to see such a new business start off like this, and I can't wait to watch them grow. read more

How this is rated at 3 stars blows my mind. No free water unless you order alcohol is ridiculous. Only sells bottled water. The food is plain but I expected it. Needless to say I didn't consume all of the fries. Overpriced for the quality of the burger. Fries were blah. I was sitting with 4 friends and they charge a 18% gratuity to split the bill with is crazy. I ordered one burger and the total ended up at $18 because of gratuity. Did I forget to mention service was bad? I feel like the waiter never checked on the table and we had to go grab them to get the bill. I will most definitely never return. My experience here was extremely poor when I expected average at best. Pretty glad I didn't give them more money by ordering alcohol although maybe it would've made me enjoy the plain food more. read more

My family and I were walking by the beach and decided to stop by this restaurant because we saw people eating their fish and chips and it looked so delicious. As we walked in, I went to see the hostess and they told me that we could just sit anywhere. We sat at the outside seating. Someone gave us the menu right away and took our drink orders. After a short while, our server came to our table and took our orders. My husband and I ordered the fish and chips, my son ordered the chicken nuggets, and my other son ordered the shepherds pie. I also ordered a bowl of clam chowder. Our order came after 15 minutes. The spoon that came with the shepherds pie was so dirty. I had to ask the waiter to exchange the spoon for us. The spoon that came with the soup was extremely dirty. There were traces of food from the last person who used it. I had to stand up and ask them for another spoon. We had to ask for napkins from our waiter because we did not have any on our table. As soon as I saw the dirty spoons, I was just so disgusted and lost my appetite. The food was fair. Temperature was good. But if you ask me, I will not come back to this restaurant anymore. It is very dirty. read more

A big disapointment this place is as far as food goes. I ordered the corned beef and potatoes with eggs and a side of garlic fries. The fries are extremely dried tossed in chopped garlic. No seasoning either. The corned beef is a very small portion and its very bland. The only good part of my meal was the egg. But seriously who can messed up eggs.... Definitely not worth the price. My friend ordered the portabello mushroom burger and she said it was also dry. Very flavorless and stale bread. No sauce at all. The service is ok. Seems like they take care more of their regulars than others... I guess that's natural everywhere. The place is good if you're here to drink with lots of friends. Omg, what a terrible place to have a beer at. I dont know where the patrons in this place come from, as shoreline village has no housing near it and it is pretty much a tourist destination. I was told by my date that the fish and chips here is totes awesome. Being that I wasnt hungry I didnt order them. I just had a glass of coors light. Kind of a rauchous bar with loud patrons. The place is dirty too. tables sticky, its like the whole place needs to be hosed down. I should have went to Tequila Joes or the yard house. I felt gross being here. read more

Interesting. Thank u for the invite back but this experience has still left a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be returning unless the waitresses/waiters use a notepad to write down your customer orders in hopes that they can get it correct. I failed to mention in my original review that my family and I weren't the only table whos orders were wrong and took too long. The live music is really awesome here. The food, not so much. We got the fish n chips it was okay...and a sampler platter that said it could feed 2-4 people... It had 6 little itty bitty soggy, very plain tasting calamaris. Would guess that it was microwave calamari. 2 buffalo wings, a bbq wing. Very nasty chicken must I add.2 slices of chicken strips that also tasted like it was microwave made and preped and 1 little ball that was a fried mashed potatoes. 3 dried up carrots strips and 3 celery sticks. Giant dipping sauce bowl which made me think the platter was suppose to be bigger maybe? It was the saddest platter I have ordered. It was maybe able to feed one person. We've found our new favorite Brunch place! We were searching for bottomless mimosas & came across this place. On Saturday, they offered $12 bottomless mimosas (plus $5 Bloody Mary's if champs is not your thing) until 1pm with a food order. We were worried about the food due to other Yelp reviews but the breakfast menu (breakfast is until noon) has tons of yummy offerings PLUS everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The service was amazing! Our server, Scott, did a great job. He kept our mimosas flowing & was supper nice, friendly, and knowledgeable. The front patio had fans, so even though it was such a hot day, we remained cool outdoors. Dogs are permitted on the patio & if you love doggies, there will be an amazing amount of cute dogs hanging around being adorable. If dogs aren't your thing (how is that even possible?!), Shenanigans has a list of "dog rules" and insists on well-behaved pups. All the dogs that were there, were very sweet & stayed close to their owners without bothering any other guests. This place is a gem & a great hangout for Saturday brunch. read more

Only giving it 2 stars because the blonde headed female bartender is better than the dark haired tattooed female, (night bartender) and I believe she deserves a star for herself. The blonde suggested Tito's for my Cran and vodka (during the day and was very friendly). It's definitely different than my goose I'm used to in it. I can dig it, along with the silver patron shots. I dislike that when you walk-in you seat yourself rather than being seated. So it's definitely a waiting game to get some service. Seems like the bartenders are also the patios waitress which makes no sense to me. Garlic fries are $5, side salad is $5, pretty much all the menu is overpriced and overrated. Cool part I guess would be that they have live music on weekends if you're into that. Also if you're not into cigarettes I'd highly suggest sitting inside. My boyfriend and I are from out of town, and we were visiting Long Beach. We wanted to eat at a local place and stopped here because we were getting a bit hangry. It was seat yourself seating, which is fine but can be tricky sometimes because the waitstaff doesn't always see you. Our waitress did see us sit down and basically slapped down the menus in front of us before walking away. She came back a few minutes later to take our drink order, and she took a bit to come back with those. Not once during the meal did she ask if we wanted refills. After our drink order, she walked away for a few minutes and then came again to take our food order. We waited quite a bit of time to get our food delivered to us by a different person (who I would guess is the cook). It took forever for the waitress to take the bill even though she delivered it before we were even done eating. She was kind of unfriendly and inattentive throughout the meal. The food was mediocre especially for the price. My boyfriend had the grilled cheese and it was just okay; not the worst or the best. I had the chicken sandwich which was also okay and had too much avocado in my opinion. We both unfortunately would not recommend this restaurant to visitors due to this experience. read more

Now I know I'm a regular, so why am I giving 4 stars? Well, the beer is hit or miss here. Sometimes it's cold sometimes it's not. However they make a mean ginger ale and Jameson, not skimpy on the whiskey at all. They have lots of tvs so you can watch whatever games are on and there's a pool table. I'm not a fan of their unisex restroom (singular), but hey when you gotta go, you gotta go. Shenanigans apparently didn't get the memo that it's 2016 and smoking sections are not acceptable anymore. Came in here while looking for a place to eat because the restaurant we planned on going to had a long wait. Sat at the bar and ordered a beer. The entire inside area absolutely reeks of cigarettes from Shenanigan's outdoor smoking patio. I don't know what management expects, there's no magical spell containing the smoke outside, and this thing called wind exists, so the smoke naturally flows inside. If not for the smoke, we had fully planned to stay and eat. Instead, we finished half our drinks and just bailed. I'd rather wait 30 minutes for Tequila Jack's than eat dinner in an ashtray. read more

I called and specifically asked if they had a particular game on and a particular beer. I was informed by two different employees that yes, this game would be put on and yes, they did have that exact beer. Neither were true. I should have known because I was being rushed off of the phone. When we walked in and the bar seating was mostly empty but we were informed by a drunk patron that we could not sit there as she was saving all the bar stools! The bar staff not only let her claim all the empty chairs but also agreed with her. After about 45 minutes all stools were still empty. The bartender tried for about a minute to put our game one and then came over and told us she couldn't because the game was over. It was not, I was listening to the radio of the game through my app. They claimed to have a particular type of beer and even though I had asked them to check while on the phone they actually did not have it, they had something similar. We were hungry but once we sat down at a table the waitresses ignored us so we left. Unless you are a tourist desperately in need of food, I'd find another establishment. read more

I'm not a yelp reviewer but today I ordered take out from Shenanigans and it was amazing! Even after driving home 20 minutes later, the fish and chips and fries were so tasty and seasoned perfectly. I didn't even care it was cold. I also loved there tartar sauce... it must be home-made or something because it was sooo yummy and didn't just taste like normal tartar sauce. We also ordered fried calamari and zucchini which was also great and to top it off we ordered 2 - 32 oz mojitos to go and it was on point with ratio of alcohol, mint and favor. I'm a disabled veteran with PTSD and mobility issues. I have a TRAINED service dog who accompanies me to help mitigate my disabilities. I came in just to sit at the bar and have a drink. I was told by the bartender I needed to sit outside with my dog. I asked if bar seating was available, told yes, but that I couldn't sit at the bar because of my dog. I was told by the bartender I needed to sit outside with my dog. I explained he is my service dog who's tasked trained to help with my disabilities and the ADA laws protect us to sit anywhere in the restaurant that's available to the public. She told me it didn't matter because of the health code. Again, I tried to explain that he is not considered a pet, but my service dog, and she can't discriminate on where I sit because if it. The Restaurant Health Codes do not trump federal law when it comes to trained service dogs. I REALLY wish management would understand this and properly train their employees over this matter. She obviously had zero tolerance to even listen to reason and automatically treated me as a nuisance, to which I got extremely upset by her lack of empathy and straight up "I don't give a shit" attitude. I was tired, in pain, and just wanted to sit, relax with a drink while listening to the band. She told me to leave, to which I refused. She then got security to try and escort me out. Again, I refused to leave and was obviously visibly upset. It turned into a power struggle with security as I progressively got more upset, as were they. I then left and asked security if we can just have a conversation about it all. He said it was over now, he didn't care and there's nothing to discuss. Those words upset me even more, so out of response, I cried again, yelled at him saying they're discriminating against a disabled vet. I was then practically laughed at as he told me he was a veteran too and I was being ridiculous (or something to that affect) "pulling that card." Just FYI, I was not looking to pull any card or act like a Karen, but rather just felt like my rights really were violated and was again just visibly upset by how mean the staff was. When people are unfamiliar with the laws, and don't want to even listen to reason because they think they know better, it's very heavy, disheartening, upsetting, and kicks the disabled when they're already down, especially because it happens WAY more than it should. I'm not trying to pull any cards or looking for special treatment or sympathy, it's just really sad when business don't know the ADA laws or what this type of treatment does to someone's mental health when we're already struggling. It happens way more than it should. Take time to listen, to be kind and to educate your employees on the laws regarding the disabled, service dogs and the ADA. Came here to grab a drink with the girlfriend and something to snack on. We decided to sit on the couch. You've been warned. If you do not want to fall asleep on the couch, then sit on the table. It's quite comfortable and soft. We ordered a spinach dip to snack on, ahi tuna and two beers. She got the half Guinness and half another sort of beer, which was called Black and Tan, while I got the Raspberry chocolate Guinness. Don't let the Raspberry fool you, it was not sweet. The Guinness had a hint of the raspberry taste, overall taste, wasn't not bad. Spinach dip wasn't bad. According to girlfriend, the ahi was just okay and pretty small for an appetizer. Service wasn't too bad since we were by the bar and the bartender and waitress were walking by us most of the time, so it was easy for us to wave them down. From our view, we able to observe how the bar seats were. People who sit by the bar seems like they're regular since the bartenders know them by names and if not, they will eventually do. Their pours on well drinks are well poured, so I would recommend to get your own type of liquor instead of beer if you are not a beer person. There are patio seats and front patio seats. Maybe we'll give this place another try next time for their brunch. read more

I sent this email September 28,2019 and no response. Theresa Rosczewski, My Wife, Sister, Best Friend, his wife, and I met at your establishment last night for a few drinks. Our night at your bar started out great with Sue and Steve your doorman and we enjoyed the atmosphere your establishment had to offer. Towards the end of the night we ordered a few drinks for us to make our way through. When last call came about we spoke to Sue and paid up our order. That's when things got a little awkward between us and your night manager Denise. She told us we had to be out in 10 mins after last call had been made at 0130. My Sister and I tried to ask her if the law had changed and why we being asked to leave so soon. Most bars do not serve alcohol after 2 am under the current law instituted in 1935. We had intended to sit there quietly, as we had all night and talk amongst ourselves as we finished our drinks. I was upset as I work for our military in the United Kingdom and only get a few days a year to have a chance to visit my family. My wife and I flew back to California early this year as my Great Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. If I had known that at the end of the night after we had already paid for alcohol we were going to be asked to leave 20 minutes before the law required we would have chosen another establishment. Denise did not like being challenged on whether she was following the law or not. I was not challenging her out of spite, she would not see reason or hear our story. At 1:46 after she had enough, she proceeded to dump our drinks (4 drinks ordered at last call). She grabbed my drink from my hand forcibly and dumped it in the sink. While speaking to her she became easily upset by the fact we were asking her legitimate questions. We were not challenging her right as the manager just our time to hang out and further enjoy Shenanigans the cute little pub atmosphere in Long Beach. We spoke to Steve and he was extremely sympathetic. As our drinks had now been tossed I asked the young manager her name. She firmly told me,"Denise". I thanked Sue for her service that evening and told Denise we would be in contact with the bar. The only thing of value to me is my time and when people try to take that from me it does upset me. I get 30 days a year to see family and this year I had even less due to work. I have had 15 days this year to spend with my family and 1 of those 15 nights to drink with my baby sister. She just finished joining the military as well and this was my chance to spend some time with her. If this is how Shenanigans chooses to treat the military and their family members then we will make sure others know to not expect a welcome atmosphere at Shenanigans. I'm sure this doesn't normally happen but I wanted to give you the opportunity to fix the situation and prevent future occurrences. This place didn't live up to my expectations. The location is great, Shoreline Village is a very fun/touristy area to walk around in and has amazing views of the harbor. Unfortunately, I wouldn't come back here for anything more than a drink and to listen to the live band. The food was below average, and our service was terrible. Pick another shoreline restaurant! Avoid the Sheppard's pie. You would think that an Irish pub would get this right, but it was very watery and took me about 3 bites to finish. It was so small that I thought they gave me the kids portion by accident! We also got fries, onion rings, and clam chowder and they were all mediocre at best. Maybe this place has better brunch or dinner, but I would NOT recommend for lunch. The service was also unfortunate. Our waiter was nice, but was very spacey and we had to flag him down multiple times. He turned a quick lunch into a 2 hours+ ordeal. He often forgot about different things we asked for and we had to flag down bus boys to get water/ketchup/extra napkins. Overall, he was either too busy to cater to our table, or just had no idea what he was doing. The live band is fun! I can see this as a good place to come at night for a drink.
