Not your typical Irish bar & not necessarily in a good way. They played country music the entire time and when they weren't playing it, they had a live singer who sang 90's pop songs. Only reason I stayed was because they had Smithwicks on tap which is one of my favorites. I wanted to wrap up the night with a Baby Guinness shot and they don't serve one of the liquors needed for the drink. The bartender however was ridiculously wonderful and as sweet as can be. Crowded, busy staff. I came during a busy rush hour and it was very difficult to grab a few drinks. On top of the waiting the staff was a little short with us. We waited about 20 minutes to get a menu, we decided to get our own drinks from the bar. The nicest part of my experience was the live music. I've always wanted to come to this Pub! I love going to Irish Pubs for the drinks and bar food. Also, this place has live music so it always looks SO FUN! I went on a 4 hour hike with my dog and on the way back my friends wanted to grab food and beer since we were starving! We live in Long Beach so I suggested Shenanigans because not only had I've been wanting to come here, it was perfect due to their outdoor patio for my dog. I came in they had a live band, the Basketball game, and a dog bowl for my fur baby! Me seeing the dog bowl, I'm thinking they are clearly dog friendly! WRONG! I was about to place my food order for my dog when the server told us, I'm sorry, the owner is kind of "stingy" when it comes to giving food to dogs... I'm confused at this point because clearly I'm going to pay for it. However, he said that the owner doesn't like dogs eating in their outside patio because then they want to poop right after they eat... literally makes no sense! My dog is perfectly trained. So he proceeded to tell me I can order it to go when I'm ready to leave but while I'm still sitting there my dog can't eat... OKAY! Well at that point I just got up and left! We happened to find a last minute babysitter for the night, and we suddenly had the treat of a night out. We started with dinner at Gladstone's and then wandered over to Shenanigans to listen to the live band and have a cocktail. We found a table and then decided to move to two empty seats at the bar. Some of the worst food I've ever eaten in my life. Had a chicken sandwich here last night and it was dryer that the Sahara. It took great effort to chew this burnt to a crisp dead bird. My wife's shepherds pie was essentially Campbell beef stew and even the French Fries were meh - not sure how they accomplished that one. The only thing that tasted good was the Brussel sprouts, everything else was awful. My past rather good rating has been halved. First time in a while that I've been here. First a new menu significantly reduced in variety with higher prices. Secondly you have to buy a reusable straw at 50 cents if you want a straw even in drinks like a bloody Mary. My niece and I were out and about during spring break when she says she's hungry. We left the beach and walked in search of food. We found this place, though not by mistake. She informed me that her uncle had already brought her here once. She mentioned an amazing and huge burger. I was tempted, so we went right in. At the entrance, it has a "seat yourselves" sign. She chose the patio even though she was wearing shorts and was shaking the whole time. The waiter popped out, handed us a menu, offered us drinks. We got two cokes and checked out the menu. She knew exactly what she was going to get, the Kilkenny burger. I opted for the mushroom and Swiss. The food was okay. I think my burger needed just a tad bit more salt. My fries, the garlic ones, didn't really taste like garlic or salt. I added salt and then cholula to the ketchup and that was better. To recap: the service was excellent. The food was almost excellent. The size was good. The flavor could have improved a bit, but the meat was an excellent medium; so juicy! I would return and get some fish and chips! read more

My husband and I were looking for a pet friendly restaurant since we had our 11 month puppy (golden doodle) with us. He is very friendly but gets a little excited when he sees other dogs. Normal behavior of puppies. While at Shenanigans, my puppy barked because he saw a dog, mind you, we had already been there for maybe an hour waiting for our food, they take forever. We quieted him down and we finally get our food. As we are eating our food, he barks again. As we are trying to quiet him down a rude worker comes by telling us that we need to leave because he's scaring people. First of all, it's a bar with live music. It's a loud environment and we were sitting towards the back of the restaurant away from the crowd. My golden doodle scared grown ass people. Really!! How silly is that. Come to find out this worker is WENDY and she is the manager of this place. She was RUDE!! It's not what you say but the way you say it. She has poor customer service and we will never return to this place. IT'S A DOG FRIENLDY restaurant right, and dogs BARK! She obviously not aware of that! All around solid choice for a pub. Pubs aren't meant to be fancy, modern, or anything like that. Pubs are for drinking beer & whiskey, watching sports, and eating bar food. Shenanigans meets or exceeds all of these standards. Beer: You'll find staples such as Guinness and 805 alongside local brews like Angel City and Modern Times. Judging by the tap handles decorating the bar ceiling, the taps rotate meaning you could walk in to new offerings anytime. Liquor and wine is available, but the options are limited. I saw mostly well liquors a la Jameson, Jim Beam, Tito's, etc. But it's a pub. Pubs are for drinking beer. Sport: The inside seating has adequate TV coverage. They look to be around 35" sets scattered around the bar and dining room with some smaller sets squeezed in around the decor. It's not a theater setup, but you're close enough to the TVs that it's not an issue. If you don't like what's on the tube, you can make your own sport on the pool table or sit on the patio. There are two patios one of which looks onto the harbor. Food: Tater tots . . . there's nothing else to say. They're amazing and should be added to every meal. You won't find many low calorie dishes on the menu, but the food is savory, filling, and pairs well with a pint of beer. That's the point, right? read more

And, before we could order the bartender/waitress stated we needed to leave a credit card. I thought that was strange because we did not order beverages to run a tab. So, I started taking notes on her service tables, and they were presenting cards without having to have surrendered it for their food. Yes, I was the only minority/mixed couple there besides one busboy with dreads there at the time. Then I realized I was singled out. This was not right, never received our drinks we ordered, she never serviced the table. The Asian and Black gentleman did. I lived in Long Beach since the dawn of time, and never had to deal with this type of discrimination before. Never say never. The food was not good, toast was hard wheat toast not white. Sent back a number of times. The orange juice my grandchild had tasted old. That was sent back. Bad experience all the way around. My wife with her good nature still tipped this woman. Me and my fiancé went here on a Tuesday night. It was a very enjoyable atmosphere. The music was great the lighting as well. I liked that the offered two types of outdoor patios one sit down style and another bar style sitting with a great view. We rode our bikes there and the staff was very helpful and courteous with helping use place our bikes. I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to order corned beef and cabbage during the off season. The food was exceptionally great. Our server was very kind and prompt with service. I think previous reviews explain it all. This place has a 3.2 star rating on Yelp, yet the manager's response to a review is to argue with the customer and flat out admit to false advertising. I hope the owner reads this: you may want to think about getting a manager who is not going to risk your business because they do not know consumer laws. False advertising is illegal and fineable. If your menu advertises that an entree comes with two pieces of fish and no staff has let the customer know of any change, the customer has get two pieces of fish or you are breaking the law. Your manager said the menus have not been updated yet so that means the customer paid the same price for one piece of fish as prior customers who got two pieces of fish. The customer got ripped off and treated disrespectfully (you are harassing a woman in a wheelchair, really??). I will no longer patronize this establishment on my visits to California. This is an awesome spot to hangout, get some good grub, and a cold beer (or three). My friends and I came here on Tuesday and it just so happened to be taco Tuesday. Of all the places at an Irish themed bar??? The tacos here are some of the best tacos I've ever had. You could choose from corned beef, carne asada, carnitas, fish, and I think there was chicken but I'm not sure. The corned beef and carnitas tacos were out of this world, especially with the house made salsa. Some tacos with a few beers blend perfectly with the view of the marina. The staff seemed like they still want to be inside their homes quarantining. Went for St. Patrick's day to show some support to an Irish pub. There was a wait to go inside. Understandable. Finally got seated and waited for our server. He had an Irish accent so we were off to a good start. Ordered drinks and some wings. Drinks were average. Wings were decent. Then I ordered the Irish Cheddar Grilled Cheese & Tomato Basil Soup. I received my soup first with no grilled cheese. We told the runner we were missing the grilled cheese. Waited and nothing. My boyfriend got up to go ask about it again. Finally came out and it looked like it should've been on the kids menu. The grilled cheese states it's made on brioche bread. This was the saddest "brioche bread" I've ever seen. We asked the runner if he thought that was brioche bread. He looked at it confused and shook his head no. He said he would go ask and check. Didn't come back. We waved down another runner/busser and asked him the same thing. He told us he would double check because the menu hasn't been updated. Nothing. Finally the server comes and asks if everything is ok. We asked him if he thought this was our correct order and says that he's only been working there for a week and doesn't really know the menu. He tells us he's going to go find out. By this time my soup was obviously cold, our drinks were empty and our patience was thin. Hangry really is a thing. To our surprise, he does come back with an answer saying- supposedly the grilled cheese is supposed to come on a brioche bread because that's what it says on the menu but we use that bread for our burgers. Ok, well if it states that on the menu and you guys have it available, then why did it come out on plain basic bread? He says this and does nothing to solve the problem. Asks us if we need anything else. Helloooo! Yesss! I do need something else! I need my entree that I originally ordered that's described on the menu! We asked him if we could get the grilled cheese on the brioche bread and the check. He grunted and walked away. We get the check and it all made sense. For just us two, we were charged an 18% gratuity and the entree wasn't waived off for the inconvenience. Restaurants that automatically charge 18% gratuity on the bill do not care about customer service. Employees there made no effort and for what? They're going to get tips anyway for lousy service. We had the worst experience ever and were forced to pay for it. Unprofessional, unethical and unjustly establishment. We had a party of 3 people,You do not post auto gratuity unless there is a party of six or more..... let me do this... i'll simply cut and paste Cali laws for if the owner or manager comes across this page. ---For banquets and other functions, or when you seat a large party (typically 6-8 or more). If you want to start implementing an auto gratuity policy, there are a few things you need to know about both federal and state laws before you get started. The absolute worst service we have ever received and almost succeeded in ruining our entire night due to that fact. My friend and I are both servers/bartenders so I would think we're a little bit more considerate and understanding than the average entitled COVID bar goer. We are both regulars at shenanigans, both after work and on our leisure time but this is the absolute last time. My friend had the amount of time to use the restroom and I receive my water from the hostess and drink the whole damn thing before we were even acknowledged by anyone. Then we were greeted by someone who wasn't our server, awesome whatever, maybe they're busy. We order two drinks, then she lets us know we BOTH have to order food. (Even though later on we noticed other tables did not have a dish each and we were never required to do so on our previous covid trips, we'd usually share an app- REALLY pissed my friend off.) We each ordered side house salads, which were stated to be $6 each but we were charged $10.50 each. In total we were charged over $50 dollars for shitty ass service, two HOUSE salads, a beer and a mojito, plus an included 18% tip. We usually tip plenty more than that but something about being forced to tip that when being provided shit hole service really irked me. We ended up going to Parker's lighthouse where we got 2 beers, a cocktail, shrimp and lobster taquitos, AND a seared salmon ponzo roll for about $70. All that for only $20 more, you're joking. I completely understand business need to make money to stay open but there's a difference between requiring food in accordance with California guidelines and just straight scamming your guests. read more
