I don't take any pleasure in writing a negative review but the public needs to be warned about this business. We were selling a car and the buyer, a young lady, wanted us to take the car to this shop and have Cody do an inspection, which she paid for. In his inspection report he wrote that the car needed front lower control arms. $1000 estimate. I asked the buyer to find out what he saw that suggested this repair was needed. He sent a picture of one of the control arms that clearly showed a torn bushing, he said the other one was cracked. So, to make her happy, we ordered the parts and took the car to our mechanic, $500 total cost. We requested the old parts be given to us. As a mechanic myself, I was shocked to see there was no tear or cracks in either bushing. We did show the old parts to the buyer as well. Cody must have found a picture on-line and told her it was our car. In my 50 years in the car business, I've never seen a more compelling case for fraud than what I saw here. read more

This place to say the least is trash! I needed some air for my tire and I have been here many times before to get air and have them check my tire pressure and it was free. However this day was the worst. The two managers said we have to charge you $10 to put 3psi of air in ONE TIRE! That is insane. Then when I called him out on it the heavyset guy said hey you drive a nice car you can afford it. Crazy that someone would just charge just because. But in a attempt to soften the blow the skinny manager said "I'll just charge you $5 when he walks away". Now one would say I should have been happy. But I was not..... why?? Like the guys who work here but recently the nite attendant has been shutting down early and goes into the back to sleep I would assume. It used to be open 24 hrs if it was locked you would knock and they would let you in. Then it went to 3am to 5am closed then 2am to 5am closed. Tonight I tried at 1230am and it was already locked up. Lights are on and the attendant is here but he won't open the doors or even come to the window no matter how much you knock and wait. This blows as this was my goto store for late night as there is nothing else walking distance in playa del rey at this time to grab late night snack or cigs etslc. SUMMARY: I lost $690 plus more on car repairs that never worked. Problem was never fixed. But car was delivered as fixed. Later on owner asked me to take this car to Lexus dealership for repairs as he was not authorized for such repairs. No refunds. I asked for only half of refund that was strongly denied as totally unfair demand. This never happened with me that I paid for service that was not delivered. Generally, repair shop always help customers and share financial aspect. If shop was truthful and contacted me that the problem was different than originally thought then I could have saved on $400 plus on new parts. I would have gladly paid their full labor and given 5 star reviews. Shop owner/manager did not honor his words or warranty promises made to me to get my car to his shop for repairs. This shop could be just an oil change shop that takes on repairs they can NOT do but they won't refund customer's money and may end up doing damage to the car for lack of experience or focus (handling several different businesses at same location) . This shop did not provide any written documentation for diagnosis or warranty or repair details that other shops provide. So, there is a lot of room for change of story or miscommunication. DETAILS: One cylinder on my car started misfiring on start and at stops. I was recommended to replace all 3 ignition coils and spark plugs on back side due to high labor cost of$270 to reach that part of engine. Shop charged me more for parts and less for labor. Shop charged me $90 for 3 spark plugs..... Lexus dealership sells 3 spark plugs exact same part number for $45 and Auto zone for $36. (Note: Car had 194,000 miles on it and five body panels needed paint and minor dent repairs from a recent incident with $5000 plus estimates for repairs. ) So, I was not ready to spend more than $500 on new mechanical repairs. It was better for me to sell this car to salvage yard for parts. I finally sold it to salvage yard after wasting $690 with this shop. Shop owner sort of sucked me into his marketing pitch with promise of 12000 miles/12 months warranty. He told me, in his 29 years of car repairs experience, he has fixed 100s of cars with this problem. I thought okay if car would be surely fixed then I can sell it to private party and recover my money. Shop never honored their words and warranty assurance given to me that led me to believe that car would be surely fixed. This is where the whole problem lies with this shop on this incident. The shop was focused to get my car for repairs but did not pay any attention what if they could not fix it or problem turned out to be different. The shop knew they would never refund my money so they were good to go ahead with repairs at my risk and my money. They also collected my money by lying that car was fixed. Later when I called to tell the problem re-appeared...misfires is reported only after certain counts. So, if shop clears everything from computer memory by removing battery for more than 30 minutes. Misfire will comeback as reported in a few days or after 5 or more miles. Owner asked me to bring back car. He claimed that he spent 6 hours of labor in trying to fix this car. Shop told me the problem seemed to be PCM (no diagnosis of PCM, just assumed everything else is good) and advised me go to Lexus dealership which would cost me $2000 plus. I later learnt from web research it could be easily several other simple things including bad and faulty repairs. Shop charged me another $105 for this trip but refunded later on after much discussions and arguments. I never approved this charge. Later after my experience with this shop, I called other shops in same area to check out. They were truthful, no shop assured that problem would be fixed for sure by replacing spark plugs and ignition coils, and correctly guided me to carefully think before repairs. They advised me the problem can also be different and can be very costly for repairs running into thousands of dollars. This is where I hold this shop owner responsible for misleading me, consciously or not, and they must bear at least half of cost. Hopefully, owner learns and changes his attitude to start listening to customer, inform and involve customer in decision making if he is going to collect money from customer for his bad choices, mistakes and false assurances of warranty. read more

I came here because of the great reviews and the low price quotes for new brakes. What I got was brakes installed improperly-- no brake hardware kit and no resurfacing of rotors. I came back three separate times because I did not feel safe driving my car. on the 3rd visit I was told I would be responsible for paying for the resurfacing of the rotors, which I did not feel was fair. The manager begrudgingly allowed me to leave, but of course-- the brakes were still not fixed. They are fast, friendly, and gave me a great price. I came in again with a huge car problem when I needed a new fuel pump. Other places were quoting the rate to be close to $800. I brought my car to the BMW dealership in hollywood for what appeared to be a problem with my shocks. I was quoted $1300 to fix the shocks and about $1200 for brakes/rotors. After talking to the mechanic that actually reviewed my car, the stories didn't match up, and so I paid he $200 inspection fee and brought it to Kelly. Kelly and Maurice at Shell have long been my wife's family mechanic. Kelly quickly raised my car up, and within 10 minutes found out that I did NOT need new shocks, and that it was simply missing ONE NUT. So, right there, I saved $1300. Unbelievable. Now for the brakes/rotors, Kelly did the job for nearly 1/2 of what the dealership wanted, and it was all OEM parts. I saved thousands of dollars, and it was all done within hours. At the dealership I was going to pay thousands, AND had waited two days for them to inspect the "problem". If you want an honest and friendly mechanic with fair prices, this is your spot. In June of 2011, I was faced with this challenge once again and in a city like Los Angeles it is impossible. I work at LMU, and often stop for gas at the Shell station on the corner. As my good luck would have it, one day driving onto campus I had an issue with my vehicle. I needed to be at work and had remembered the shell station had a shop. I limped my vehicle to the station and met Kelly for the first time. As always has seemed the case over the past 8 years, my cars issues were resolved swiftly, affordable and never returned. Kelly is honest and his team does great work. He remembers your name and you feel like your at the small town mechanic because you realize there is no one else you would ever consider taking your vehicle after wards. My car started coughing out of the blue and died completely in the middle of Lincoln in a sea of rush-hour traffic. I knew there was a Shell station just a little further down the block so I managed to start my car up long enough to get it into their lot. It was around 5pm so I assumed they were probably closing for the day and I'd have to walk home, but Kelly, the mechanic working there, not only figured out what was wrong within 5 minutes (the battery cables had come dislodged ), he was able to fix it and I was driving away about 10 minutes later!! I was in shock - and SO grateful for his sincere kindness and his help. I've bought gas at this station many times in the past, but I've never serviced my car there before. For instance, Kelly Murphy, service manager drove me to my house in Westchester and inspected my car. He identified the problem with my car and I decided to have it repaired at his shop. Instead of going to another shop that was not able to get the repair parts needed for a week. Luckily for our family, we have an honest, experienced auto mechanic shop close to home. We live down the street from this Shell station and always pump gas here. The gas prices are reasonable especially considering the quality of Shell gas vs a no name brand. As for the mechanic shop, we love Maurice and Kelley. We took our new Porsche to the Shell for an oil change and it was 1/2 the price that the dealership quoted and same for our SUV. It's a good feeling knowing we can trust the local mechanic shop.
