My mom turned me on to this spot for annual car inspection mostly because of how reliably quick the service always is for her. But also if she had the same all service person behind the register that takes the keys/insurance and brings them back to you, she knows how much I would have enjoyed the aesthetics of a fleeting urban interaction worthy of a flowery craigslist missed connections post with a polite, early 20s, extra spicy attractive individual who called me bro not once but twice for good measure. Rapid fast service, polite workers, and a no frills experience (not even a chair to sit in) make this the ideal situation for someone like me who wants military efficiency without small-talk in things they don't enjoy (haircuts, auto inspection, etc.) but need to get done fairly often any way to keep up appearances. I spent ~35 minutes less doing this than I did in previous years at the other one on the south end of Shepherd. The shop also has a Sugar (Luke Cage season two) sized humidor by the register and sells mid range ($10-30 per loosey) non-Cuban cigars in tubos and without. RyJ was well represented but there was also Cohiba and others in that range. I did not know corner stores did this outside of bodegas in NYC. I like this even though it is different than the Briar Shoppe in the Village more local and the Nat Sherman townhouse back in NYC. $25.50 for the inspection. One and you are done for the next eleven months. In and out in half the (short) time estimate you were given. Now that is fine service to appease the bureaucratic auto queens in Austin forcing you to get this done to line their pockets with your money and for them to breathe deep in Austin to feed off your frustration that they caused. read more

I didn't schedule an appointment. I just drove right up and asked for an oil change. The gentleman helping me explained the difference between synthetic and regular oil and provided the pricing for both. I told them I was in a time crunch and needed it done in under an hour. They finished the oil change within 30 minutes, reset the oil change light for me, and added the mileage sticker to the inside of my windshield. I bought some snacks too and they literally finished the oil change before I could eat the snacks. Highly recommend. read more

This is the best car shop in Houston. They have found nails in my tires and repaired them quickly, and the repairs lasted well over 3 years in this extreme weather. They are efficient, priced fairly, and I have sold and bought 3 cars with them so far. They are family owned and operated, multigenerational, and the owner is almost always on site. I can't imagine going somewhere else. They have gone above and beyond anything I have ever seen from a dealership or repair shop. I don't appreciate the duplicitous nature of this establishment. I've lived in this neighborhood for just over a year now, and I have never seen the price sign displaying the prices. It certainly works - the lights are on, but they never display a price. That's because they charge about $.50 more than any other gas station in the area. I would never get my car serviced here again. They charge $85/hour (or I got the single white female special) which they don't bother to tell you upfront and move like turtles to pad your bill all the while strongly encouraging you/ almost forcing you to leave your car for a few hours(I stayed :)) for a job that should've taken all of ten minutes (resetting a fuse). Soo... they reset a fuse for $$$$. They want me to come back for break pads that I don't need for $700. This epitomizes my somewhat stereotypical dislike of car mechanics. This gas station has used the same tactic for at least 25 years: they do not "fix" the price tower display, so you cannot really know how much they charge until you drive next to the pump. Then you see their ridiculously high prices and because you are already there (and maybe it is urgent for you) you stay to fill some gallons. There are regulations around price displaying towers in this industry but these folks do not care. No idea about the staff or other services. I am just complaining about how they have worked for so many years without properly displaying their prices per gallon. read more

Do not get your car serviced here!!! I went to get a state inspection, I left it and came back. They told me my brakes were bad. I asked for a quote and they wanted to charge me $900 to change my four brakes. I said I would search around and come back. I went to my friend who sells car breaks for a living we took out the brakes in all four wheels, and they had more than half of their life left in them!! These guys are trash. They are going to rip you off anyway possible. I had a piece of plastic underneath my car missing a screw and the guy goes oh yeah let me take care of it and jumps into my car. Then gets done and says that will be 20 bucks. 20 bucks for a screw and maybe 3 minutes of work because he put my car on the lift (didn't need to be put on the lift). He mentioned none of this. There is a take 5 right across the street that is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and go there and avoid these scumbags. read more

WATCH OUT! I'm not a price shopper when it comes to gas, and really don't care if one station is a few cents higher or lower than another, preferring to base my decision more on brand quality and appearance. That said, I expect the price to be reasonable for the market, and have a general distaste for being purposely ripped off! My first stop at Cho's Shell about a month ago resulted in a huge shock as I looked at the pump price after I had about 5 gallons already in my car. I was a bit shocked as it was around $0.50 higher per gallon than I had been paying, and immediately started thinking back if I remembered hearing anything on the news about skyrocketing gasoline prices. I looked around and then noticed all of the price sign boards at the station were blanked out, and the only place the price per gallon was posted was on the pump itself! Highly suspicious by then, I stopped pumping and drove down the street to another top brand station a couple blocks away and discovered the Exxon Premium was $0.53 less per gallon that Cho's Shell Premium! This was consistently the case at other stations in the area over the next couple weeks. Yesterday, nearly a month later, I went by Cho's Shell again just out of curiosity and found the exact same situation - all the signs were blanked out, and this time the price for Premium was $0.47 - $0.54 per gallon higher than 3 other stations in the area. I became convinced that this was intentional, and by leaving the signs blank the operator was intentionally attempting to lure others into making the same mistake I had the first time around and grossly overcharge! I had a complete brake job, tune-up, and repaired my A/C. They work on all cars and do a lot of work on Europeans. I always take my BMW and my wife's Mercedes for regular oil changes and annual inspections. They charge a fraction for repairs compared to what the dealer charges. read more

I've taken my car here several times for inspections on the recommendation of our regular mechanic (who doesn't offer inspections). In December, I agreed to replace the windshield wiper pump. I returned today with my receipt because the pump quit working; they fixed it while I waited -- 15 minutes, not long! -- and didn't charge me. The problem was apparently crystals in the wiper fluid. This Shell station is amazing. The location is awesome, but the customer service is even better. I had a flat tire and Mo, the owner, got me a new tire in 90 minutes. He also brought me home and came back to pick me up during the waiting period. I also (later) needed to change my break pads. He gave me a fair price and lent me a car to drive while he changed the break pads. He and his workers are amazing. So nice and I never feel like they are taking advantage of me. Most crooked gas station in Houston. I just stopped in for gas and it was $2.69 per gallon of regular!! That's almost a $1.30 more than anyone else!! Price gougers!! Don't give them your business!! I'm pretty sure what they are doing here is illegal. Their prices are 30-40% more expensive then around other local gas stations for gas. But worst of all they don't even display their outrageous prices on the LED street sign they have out front. Supposedly its been "broken", but its been like that for the last 2 months.
