RMS is BY FAR the best auto shop I have EVER been to. And I don't say that lightly. Whitney and the team there are exceptionally professional, outstandingly communicative, and highly knowledgeable. I will never go to another shop as long as I live in Houston. Highlights: 1.) They will Lyft you home if you're leaving your car and need a ride. 2.) They communicate better than any other shop I've ever been too. I never had to call and ask what was going on with my Jeep. Text, calls, etc - I was always in the loop. 3.) They send you pics and a full explanation of any issues so you can take time with your decisions of what to fix and not feel pressured/hurried into doing things you may not understand. 4.) I found the pricing VERY reasonable compared to the places I had been going to. I just can't say enough about my experience there. as a woman, i hate going to the mechanic and am often lied to. my tire had a slow leak and after being falsely told at discount tires that i was unable to fill my tire with air due to fear of the tire popping, i went to RMS auto and they found 2 nails, patched my tire, and filled it with air in no more than 10 minutes. they didn't try to upsell me once or try to do anything other than what i asked for. i will be going back. read more

I have an almost vintage, high-mile 2012 civic. It's been paid off for a while, I'd like to keep it running for a few more years and RMS takes great care of us. I've been getting repairs and routine service at RMS since 2020. They are always patient, try to calm my fears, encourage me in my journey to make it to 200K miles. Everyone I've encountered here (no joke) has been kind and helpful. They've kept track of my maintenance history with Car Fax which is a great service since I can hardly remember what I had for breakfast yesterday. Not only they took me with a short period notice but they also sent me home on a share ride and also pick me up when the vehicle was repaired. Very very good service, also very expensive. My car was a no start that had to be towed to the shop. The front desk was very helpful, offered me a complimentary rideshare home, and was quick to update me on what was going on with my car. That said, they charged me $911 to replace my starter, which is a little steep. They also advised other work be done on my car that would total to around $2,500, however when I stated that I just needed the starter replaced they dropped it immediately. It was nice to not feel guilt tripped into paying for more service. Overall, amazing service 5/5 stars for that but if you are looking to get something done for a reasonable price, this may not be the shop for you. read more

It seems like RMS has officially gone off the rails with both their sales tactics and their "shop fees". They're always had an addition to your total bill, which was about 3% and which they call a "shop fee for things like rags and supplies to run their business". That fee is now 8%. This can add significantly to your cost, so just fyi. This is not disclosed prior to work performed and is added to your invoice amount. At checkout, I was told my total and had to request a printed invoice, which was quickly folded and put in a sleeve before i could go over it. They also now have what seems like a marketing team or call center, besides their texts and emails for marketing communications and upselling, so be prepared for that too. It's become quite the marketing machine. I've previously gone there because I live a couple blocks away so it's easy, but things have gotten pretty over the top, so that's done. read more

Whitney and her team really helped me out. I have a CT200h that was acting up, and I was afraid it might be an issue with the head gasket, so I took it to the shop. Although the wait was long (they are always so busy!) they did their best to try and replicate the issue (the issue only happens from a cold start and had happened twice to me but wasn't consistent). They didn't try to upsell me anything but instead really tried to explain to me what the issue might be and talked with their hybrid specialist as well and followed up to let me know it is related to L-SB-0174-17 issue on the CT200h. I wonder what RMS stands for. Really Muscular Salespeople? I guess that would help bring in female customers. Actually this is Montrose, so that would help bring in male customers. This is a really cool garage to go to and they are pretty honest and reliable and won't do things that don't need doing for the most part. However because of the part of town they are in, they are two to three times the price of the mechanic I usually use way out on the east side (outside 610, just north of Pasadena, nobody speaks much English, bargain basement prices and great work). So while I won't become a regular here for financial reasons, I would recommend these guys to anybody that needs to get their car fixed west of downtown, and doesn't want to venture out of the nicer areas of Houston into barrios and what not. RMS... hmm... Read My Script? I wonder if, before they were mechanics, they were moving to LA and trying to get a gig writing screenplays? Who knows. They did me a nice cheap oil change and took good care of me the first times I visited them. However, when I had an appointment to fix my air conditioning (vital in Houston), they were going to charge me something like $1,400 and then were able to get me a discounted rate at about 900. Way out in Pasadena they did the $1,400 work for about $600 (all inclusive) so that gives you an idea of how much you might save if you go out to the lower-income areas. But if you don't want to do that, and you want to stick to the more kempt, Yelpy neighbourhoods, then this is by far the best garage I've found in the area. Along with the cool guys at Discount Tire on SW Freeway just a few miles away, you can get pretty much everything done between these 2 places. RMS... umm...... Rabid Make-up Sex? When you go in with a problem the front office looks up how many hours it will take to fix it and gives you the price. Then the mechanics decide if they feel like doing it for that. It's a crazy way of running a business. I was told repairing the water leak from the intake gasket seal would be $400 for 4 hours. However, Nick, the mechanic, was apparently not happy with that. He claimed the leak was from a corroded intake, which was unavailable. The next week I brought in a good intake and a complete gasket set so there was no excuse. They called, saying the old gasket was in pieces so they added $200 to clean up the pieces. Fine, my cost is now $750. I picked up the car and the old intake, which was in perfect, uncorroded, condition. I offered it to the owner for what it cost me but never heard back. I Brought my 1965 Ford in for a transmission rebuild. Price would be $3,200 for the rebuild (they subcontract that) and $800 for an RMS mechanic to remove it and put it back. Fine, I say. Then i am called down. Paul, the mechanic, refuses to remove it, citing the car's old tires, bad bolts on the power steering box, gas tank and bellhousing. In my opinion, Paul prefers the easy jobs, like this next -and last- one I'm bringing in... My blazer is making a whining sound. Paul diagnoses it and will fix it by replacing three pulleys and the belt for $592.02(!). By now I am suspicious. I get on youtube and learn how to diagnose pulleys using a screwdriver as a stethoscope. The noise was coming fro the idler pulley. A trip to Autozone, $25 and 15 minutes later and the noise was completely gone. I have no idea why Paul is called a "Master Mechanic" after that sorry performance. I have been going to RMS for 20 years. Some years are good and some not so good. In 2022, the inmates are running the asylum. Stay away. read more

I have taken my aging car to this shop on a few occasions and have been fairly pleased with the results of most times that I've been there. The only time that I was a little disappointed was when I was quoted $54 to change a headlight bulb, so I did it myself with a help from a lot of WD-40. But, I have to give them some huge credit from my most recent experience. When I was out of town, the refurbished alternator that RMS installed in June 2022 gave out on me. I talked with Whitney at RMS, who calmly and confidently explained the Pronto Network guarantee that applied in this situation. She even e-mailed me a copy of the June receipt. I was a bit fearful of having to shell out another ~$625 or so for the work without reimbursement, but it had to be done. Im extremely pleased that Pronto and RMS/Pronto stuck by their contract and fully reimbursed me the cost of putting in another alternator from an out-of-town vendor, pretty quickly I want to add. This was my first time using this company, I have driven by numerous times, but like with most things, I am a creature of habit and stick with my usual repair facility. This time, however, I needed a tire repaired and my usual place doesn't do that. There is another place just around the corner on the 2100 block of Shepherd that I used to go to but since they ripped me off a few years ago, I have not stepped foot in there since. The repair was done quickly with a patch as opposed to a plug and at a reasonable price and the service was great. This is the first auto care place I've been to since I moved to Houston almost a year ago and I would say I'm glad I went here. I found them through google and what attracted me to them was that 1. they are in a lot of websites' "Top 10 Auto Care" places in Houston, and 2. the location was perfect. I had issues w/ coolant and engine oil leakages (so, not-so-small repairs) and they took care of everything perfectly. They were able to do same day diagnostic tests and sent me an email w/ a report of everything that they had found; the report even had pictures of what must be repaired/replaced w/ the problem areas highlighted. There was a hiccup w/ one of the required parts not making it through to the place, but they still got it done really fast. They would've gotten everything done w/in a day, if it wasn't for the delivery issue. Also, they constantly kept me up to date w/ how the repairs were going. The customer service was awesome here. Now price-wise, I'm not sure if the amount they charged for the repairs was pretty standard or not, seeing that I'm not the most automobile-savvy individual... but I wasn't mad at the cost. I didn't bother getting a 2nd opinion from another garage, but my car-guru partner looked at the report and felt that it was a reasonable price. So, needless to say, I will be going back to this place whenever I need to get my car fixed. read more

These guys just did me a big favor. I drove from Minnesota to TX and on the trip hit a big piece of shredded truck tire. It took out my AC and trashed my bumper. First I found a place to fix my AC which they did, but not without warning me that my AC system was still very vulnerable without the underproduction in place that had gotten damaged by the tire. Someone recommended RMS to me for body work so I went their. Initially the woman advising me was trying to save me $ related to insurance before I found out that the repair was going to take much longer than I had given that I live out of town. I asked if it was possible to just put on protection to keep the components in the engine compartment protected. He said, "give a few minutes and we'll see." About 15 minutes later he drove my car up and said that they'd been able to use ties and the parts already there to hold the protection in place. And the kicker, NO CHARGE. Who said chivalry is dead? Thanks so much for the help! I would've been happy to pay, but I certainly appreciate your going the extra mile, especially for a customer who you've never seen before and may never see again, given that I now live 1200 miles away.
