I have been bringing all my cars here for years now- I would say Fred is that "honest mechanic" he will do what he says he will do and if he can save you money he will- I haven't had any issues with any vehicle I have been bringing here and if there are things that are issues that may be problematic with a specific car and he is aware, he has always informed me. So I would say he is worth the second opinion on big things and an excellent shop for all your maintenance since he is close to downtown and you can schedule and leave your car there and hop the train back to work. read more

Very pleased with Fred's work. I didn't know what was wrong with my truck, but I took it in and Fred sorted it out real quick. Turns out my clutch was done-zo, so I asked him and his guys to work on my truck to replace the clutch, change the oil, and he even threw on a couple of wiper blades at cost. All in all, it was a fairly priced repair and he was very courteous and professional. I've had some bad run ins with other car repair guys, but Fred is a straight shooter. I tried out Auto Best after reading all the good reviews and realizing it was mere blocks from my work. I'm so glad I did! I had taken my car to 4 repair shops before Auto Best. NONE of those shops even diagnosed my car. Over the course of 2 months my car became worse and worse, and every time I took it to a shop, it was never diagnosed. I was dumping money into it, and it wasn't getting fixed. Auto Best was my last chance at a shop before having to cave and go to the dealer. My car was properly diagnosed and repaired the same day. Not only that, I had a cosmetic detail I wanted fixed, and he ordered the part and repaired it for the cheapest anyone had ever quoted me. Their prices are very reasonable, and Fred is very friendly. His prices always seem reasonable. I've come to Fred for a couple years now, and he's always very welcoming. He's worked on all my families vehicles. I get my oil changes and inspections done here, and he's very efficient even when I come right after work which is almost closing time for him. I was worried about my brakes needing a change and he called after he inspected the brakes...(I dropped off the car mid afternoon) and told me how much it would cost before he began work on it. The price was very reasonable and he got it done with in 3 hours and I was able to get my car after work. As someone with zero knowledge of cars, it is often stressful to bring my car to someone and trust that they do not take advantage of my inexperience. I just started going here recently. My 2001 Honda Civic would start up by instantly stop running. I thought it was a bad fuel pump, but Fred was able to put the computer on it and find out directly what was wrong. The timing belt had jumped. He was able to get parts right away, do a great professional job replacing the timing belt, water pump, and the tensioner. Very reasonable price on everything. He was quick, communicated well, and I am going back to him with a different Honda Civic that needs a transmission replacement.
