Starting long before he opened Auto Best on Austin street, over 30 years of service from Fred on a large variety of vehicles and he has never been less than excellent. I have also referred several friends to him over the years and he has always provided them with outstanding service. Honest, attentive, professional and an excellent mechanic from whom I have never seen anything other than fair pricing. read more

No fuss no up selling an honest assessment every time .. An honest mechanic wow! I'm looking for unicorns and leprechauns next .. read more

Fred is awesome! Very fair and does amazing work! He always looks out for your best interest. Very honest and fair.

I have been bringing all my cars here for years now- I would say Fred is that "honest mechanic" he will do what he says he will do and if he can save you money he will- I haven't had any issues with any vehicle I have been bringing here and if there are things that are issues that may be problematic with a specific car and he is aware, he has always informed me. So I would say he is worth the second opinion on big things and an excellent shop for all your maintenance since he is close to downtown and you can schedule and leave your car there and hop the train back to work. read more

Really great guy! Very honest and up front, won't oversell you. Out of the many times we have taken our cars here, one time he was unable to help. He gave us a recommendation of who nearby that could and that guy also was amazing. Overall phenomenal service! read more

My mechanic for almost 20 years. Excellent work at very fair prices. Highly recommended.

This place was recommended by a friend who worked near by and said they were solid. Twice now these guys have taken care of issues with my jeep rather quickly and at a fair price. I think I've found my go-to mechanic for the time being! read more

Fred is the best. Fair and honest. Will tell you, "You don't need that." Won't fix something that isn't needed. read more

I have been getting work done by Fred for several years. Mainly oil changes and inspections. Very friendly and the turn around is reasonable. read more

My cars were repaired and maintained by Fred since 1990. He is a master mechanic and I trust him over any other person when it comes to my cars. Honest, diligent, and an expert in his field. I moved a bit away and I have no issue driving further to Auto Best. I recommended friends to Auto Best and they are pleased with the work. As long as he is in business, and I am in Houston, he has my business. read more

I used to have recurring car issues until I started taking it to Auto Best. Stop taking your car to Firestone, NTB, Goodyear etc. and waiting all day just for an oil change. I moved out of midtown but I still take my cars to Auto Best for maintenance and any issues because they are honest and do solid work. read more

I have only had typical car maintenance work done by the boys at Auto Best. Either way, it was done well, on time, and in a friendly and professional fashion. The prices are quite reasonable and they have some eclectic vehicular clientele when taking into account both imports and domestics! Highly recommended. read more

I moved to Houston recently and needed a good trustworthy mechanic. We all know how hard that is to find! I chose this place since it was close to my apartment and had nothing but 5 star reviews. I'm so glad I did! Fred was great and even finished working on my car an hour earlier. I paid half of the price for my rear shocks that I was quoted from a mechanic back home. I'll definitely be going back here the next time I need work done on my car. read more

Auto Best Houston - Auto Repair Near Me - Houston, Texas

Very pleased with Fred's work. I didn't know what was wrong with my truck, but I took it in and Fred sorted it out real quick. Turns out my clutch was done-zo, so I asked him and his guys to work on my truck to replace the clutch, change the oil, and he even threw on a couple of wiper blades at cost. All in all, it was a fairly priced repair and he was very courteous and professional. I've had some bad run ins with other car repair guys, but Fred is a straight shooter. I will be going back to Fred for my future vehicle needs and I recommend you check him out because it's tough to find a mechanic you can trust and Fred will treat you right. read more

I tried out Auto Best after reading all the good reviews and realizing it was mere blocks from my work. I'm so glad I did! I had taken my car to 4 repair shops before Auto Best. NONE of those shops even diagnosed my car. Over the course of 2 months my car became worse and worse, and every time I took it to a shop, it was never diagnosed. I was dumping money into it, and it wasn't getting fixed. Auto Best was my last chance at a shop before having to cave and go to the dealer. My car was properly diagnosed and repaired the same day. Not only that, I had a cosmetic detail I wanted fixed, and he ordered the part and repaired it for the cheapest anyone had ever quoted me. Their prices are very reasonable, and Fred is very friendly. I had my repairs a month ago, and have not had any problems since. I'll definitely be going to them first the next time! read more

Fred is the best! A great and honest shop! This shop can always be trusted by my family and I with any of our car troubles, Have never had any issues. read more

These guys are great. They were close by when I had trouble and I was SO lucky. Reasonable prices, right in line with what I expected. Finished my car earlier than their estimate. Very professional and all around nice. Vacuumed my car too. Great guys read more

Fred and Jose are the dream team! Honest and good at what they do! I wouldn't trust my car anywhere else!

I've always gotten the best service at an awesome price here. You have to talk to the head mechanic, so if he's not around you may have to wait, but it's worth the wait. He tells it like it is, and it never feels like he's trying to screw you. read more

This place was recommended to me by a coworker several years ago and I have been going ever since. I have a 17 year old car so it requires a fair amount of maintenance. As a woman who knows nothing about cars I always fear being taken advantage of but never at Auto Best. Fred is extremely helpful and always calls with updates and if anything is needed above what he originally told you. The price is reasonable and the service is excellent. I would never go anywhere else read more

I was referred to this vehicle repair shop by another top rated mechanics shop in Midtown because they can save you a lot of money on a top notch brake job because they have the equipment to turn your rotors which is much less expensive than replacing the rotors and works just as well in many cases. The owner gives you personal quality service & explanations & completes a good job on time. read more

There are two endless searches: for your auto mechanic and for your dentist. I'm still looking for the best dentist (any suggestions?), but my "car doctor" search is over! This place is great. I have a new car, no major problems. But I still always can trust them to do the best job and be very honest with me. The prices are extremely affordable and fare, and if you have some small issue, sometimes they won't even charge you. Ask for Fred and you'll be very happy with your service. read more

This place has very fair prices and are honest. I had an issue with my car where I needed to replace my seat (other garages had told me the same). After agreeing for them to get me a new seat, they actually gave a shot at fixing it themselves and were successful. They could had charged me for a new seat but didn't. I will definitely come back and recommend them. read more

Fred is the real deal. I'm so glad I found this guy, after bad experiences with two other Montrose mechanics. He doesn't have a fancy shop or cute logo. He's just there to fix cars. His prices always seem reasonable. No one likes to pay for repairs, but when his bill is presented, it always seems like what it should cost, not like other places where it seems slightly inflated, or they can't explain the charge and seem evasive. He does the work quick, calls you right away, and he's open Saturdays. He's just an honest, hard-working mechanic. He also does inspections. read more

Had my brakes re-done and Fred was great. I showed up mid afternoon and really needed the work completed that same day. Fred stayed an extra hour to get my car fixed. Service was great, Fred seems very honest and genuine. I will definitely go back for other repairs. read more

I came to Fred after reading reviews on yelp and I'm very glad I did. I have an 08 impala and well you know how that goes...I have brought my car to Fred for 3 major issues and I'm glad to say I have not had a problem once Fred has fixed my car. He is pretty friendly and knowledgable. He is willing to check out your car without charging you to tell you what's wrong with it. He isn't exactly the cheapest...but hey his in Midtown so what do you expect. But if you are looking for reliability and friendliness come here and have him check out your car. read more

Was searching for some place close to work during my lunch hour. This place was great, no wait, great customer service & quick turn around time. Will def go again! read more

Fred is awesome, works quickly, is kind and honest. I went to him for help with a few issues with my vehicle, and I'll definitely be back. I expect to be a long term customer. read more

I have known about and gone to Fred's shop since it was in Montrose. He's good people and has a good crew. No job too small or too big. And no B.S. read more

The best service ever. Will continue to go back again and again. I have had horrible experiences with auto body shops in Houston. Came here and haven't regretted it. Quick and fast service, and not expensive. read more

I've come to Fred for a couple years now, and he's always very welcoming. He's worked on all my families vehicles. I get my oil changes and inspections done here, and he's very efficient even when I come right after work which is almost closing time for him. I was worried about my brakes needing a change and he called after he inspected the brakes...(I dropped off the car mid afternoon) and told me how much it would cost before he began work on it. The price was very reasonable and he got it done with in 3 hours and I was able to get my car after work. I am very pleased with his work and he always manages to treat every customer with an honest attitude. You can always trust Fred! read more

I do not understand these great reviews. They are rude on the phone, and they are not organized enough to call you back. You can definitely find a more professional mechanic in Houston. read more

If you don't think an "honest mechanic" exists, then you haven't met Fred. He has been our mechanic for the past 9 years and has always given us an exceptional price for the excellent work he does. I recommend him to any family member or friend that needs work done on their car. Fred is the man, we love him! read more

The most trustworthy mechanic I've ever been to. I went in with a check engine issue that no one could seem to diagnose correctly, and he took care of it for me, and didn't even charge me because it was a simple fix. Other mechanics would have at least charged for labor. I have been coming to him for years and will continue to do so. read more

Fred deserves every star. He's fast efficient and honest. We have used him for years he has done every kind of work imaginable for us. The only thing I have to fear is he will become too popular. This is a mechanic you can trust and will want to always return to. read more

Fred (if you use them ask for Fred) was a very helpful resourceful for a time-sensitive problem. Having recently moved to Houston, I was skeptical about finding a trustworthy mechanic. Fred provided up-front pricing, reasonable labor costs, and worked with me when I found a cheaper part than he could access. I also appreciate his location--inside the Loop. Would definitely use them again. read more

I agree with all of the previous reviews. Fred is great. Reasonable prices, no bs. As someone with zero knowledge of cars, it is often stressful to bring my car to someone and trust that they do not take advantage of my inexperience. I've brought my car here twice and both times, Fred was honest and up front with me about the issue and the price. In fact, the first time, he suggested I bring the car back to the dealership and ask that they repair it free of charge since it was within 30 days of purchase. I highly recommend this place. read more

I just started going here recently. My 2001 Honda Civic would start up by instantly stop running. I thought it was a bad fuel pump, but Fred was able to put the computer on it and find out directly what was wrong. The timing belt had jumped. He was able to get parts right away, do a great professional job replacing the timing belt, water pump, and the tensioner. Very reasonable price on everything. He was quick, communicated well, and I am going back to him with a different Honda Civic that needs a transmission replacement. I already have trust in this mechanic, and know he does amazing work, definitely 5 star recommended mechanic. read more
