When you want coffee that actually tastes like coffee this is the place. When you want to support a local business this is also the spot (rather then giving your money to a soulless conglomerate). The spinach feta croissant is incredibly flaky and delicious (beware the flakiness, it tends to get all over you) read more

strong coffee, cool people, and comfy sofas to sink into. there's also an outdoor patio which has a lovely view of archibalds (or as my friends call it "the arches" and the characters that inhabit 2nd street. chances are, if you're hanging outside, you've seen me walk by at least a million times, if not more. i once got a mocha here at about 8pm, and couldn't sleep for a good 4 hours. i haven't had that kind of action/reaction to coffee in years! read more

Love the smell as soon as you walk in and how it has an homey feeling with all of the wood. I think the prices are similar to starbucks and places like that. We tried a banana mocha coffee drink. The banana was a bit overpowering for me, but it was pretty good. The vanilla iced coffee he let us sample was really good. I didn't even know this place was here, but it is definitely a gem. I would come back. The big cinnamon roll in their display case was very tempting. read more

Asked the cashier what smoothie they recommend and they said they've never tried it. One guy said he tried the strawberry and it was good so I went with it. Then he proceeds to pull a bottle of strawberry syrup looking mix and blends it with ice. tastes like preservatives and sugar. read more

Cute coffee shop where they roast coffee beans and roast peanuts. Simple menu of espresso drinks and coffee. Huge selection of roasted coffee for sale. Not a fan personally of flavored coffee, but they had a large selection, if you are into that type of coffee. read more

i love pollys! i stop by before every shift to get an iced coffee.... (my fave thing there) all the baristas know me by now and are so friendly and welcoming! pollys is the best coffee in long beach and soooo cheap! i love it here! read more

The tea is great...they have a great selection of tea...I am NOT a coffee drinker so iced or hot...the tea is a winner...the pastries are good...as I understand it...they do not make them from scratch, but they do make them fresh in the store everyday...and the scones are a million times better than Starbucks...the help is friendly and they remember your drink from week to week or day to day...really attentive...really attentive except for one guy...not sure of his name...shaved head...wears glasses and seems to be annoyed by everything. I think he is one of those people that believes himself to be the smartest person in the room and that working there is below his station in life...also...FLIES...Spring and Summer there are a ton of flies in this place...it seems like they need an air curtain or something read more

2 stars for a serious coffee enthusiast. The coffee isn't near an exceptionally high quality. Gourmet may imply artistic food and drink, but a lot of art in the world sucks. The atmosphere is fine and i'm sure the sugary/flavored/foamy drinks taste sweet and flavored, but in consideration to it's single origin roasts, they are pretty meh. If you've drank gas station coffee all your life, you'll likely be impressed. The staff are friendly, but don't have great barista skills or any of the mega coffee-nerd depth of knowledge that I appreciate in sales conversation. After buying a few cups and several types of central american beans to home brew, I wish I would have just bought crap coffee. Priced reasonably lower than the high end boutique shops, but only reasonable for their meh coffee. Yes, you can annotate "snob" throughout this review, but I miss Melbourne. read more

This is my favorite establishment on Second Street. Relaxed, unpretentious, and always friendly, with amazing coffee and baked goods. I buy a lot of Christmas and birthday gifts here too for those coffee lovers! read more

Nothing left to say, just throwing in my 5-star vote. Everybody already knows Polly's is awesome and has the best coffee on 2nd, and gives off the best yummy smell, and has the best cookies, and we should all support local businesses! So there! read more

Fresh roasted beans. Best cup of coffee and you can't beat the price. I've been coming to Pollys since 1984.

Fantastic place to work or chill out, nice teas and coffees, great muffins, and friendly people. What more can you ask for??

Polly's coffee is great! I use to go to Aroma De Roma cause it was closer to my store, but I got tired of their flavorless drip coffee and their attitudes. Everyone at Polly's is always nice. This is my new spot. read more

Upon moving to the area, I wanted so badly to fall in love with this place and make it my neighborhood coffee joint. Alas, it just couldn't be. It's a fine place, but the coffee just doesn't cut it. I haven't bought their beans and brewed them myself, so they may be fine, but their in-house coffee is extremely watery and just not good. I've had to throw in with one of the more corporate options on 2nd street just for drinkability. Sad face. read more

Stumbled upon here after the Turkey Trot yesterday and what a great find. The roastery was going and it smelled soooo good. The staff here were incredibly nice and not snooty like some cafes. And, of all the cafes we've been to (and it's a lot) in the LA area this place had the best prices! Coffee was not too intense in flavor and not super strong, but was still very good. There wasn't a lot of seating inside, but plenty outside. If in the area please don't go to Starbucks and support the local businesses, there is no comparison. read more

I didn't like this coffee place at all - it felt cluttered and dingy. There was an inch of dust on all of the shelves and displays and just random stuff all over the place. Crumbs all over the couches/seats and it just seemed dingy. read more

I like this place but the coffee is not hot. They served it to us, luke warm.

This place has the best Chai Latte. Very comfortable sofas and friendly staff. The owner Mike is a nice guy. He gave me a history of the coffee shop and showed me the paintings of customers outside on the wall of the shop. They grind and brew the coffee themselves.Family owned business for over 30 years and the workers seemed happy. Cool place. Ill choose this spot over Starbucks. read more

Great coffee and I admire the simple yet intense love for their coffee roasts. Great place!

My absolute favorite coffee shop. Their chai is wonderful and they have a large selection of teas. I always bring back coffee to family and friends back in the Midwest because they love it so much. The staff is friendly and the owner is helpful and a wealth of information about coffee roasting. They also have a nice little selection of pastries. read more

Moved down from Seattle in 2006 and had always chastised Long Beach coffee places for having their "vats o' coffee" sitting for hours on end with extremely low quality coffee in them to begin with. Well... then I stumbled upon Polly's. Now, it definitely lacks the true "coffee house" vibe (more due to the size), BUT holy cow is their coffee on par with the best of the northwest brews! Instead of putting effort into trendy chairs and using space for studying caffeine addicts, Polly's clearly places significant importance on their coffee. Huge roasting area in the back, and "candy shop" type cases for their never-ending variety of roasted coffee beans along the length of the shop. Praise be to Java, Polly's has saved this man!! Well... figuratively... read more

Save your money! Over priced and tastes like you made it your hotel room. This is your only choice in the long beach airport. I returned my first cup only to taste the sake thing. Weak flavorless crap. read more

Whatta pig. Sunday 10/19, 10:20 am I watched as the Barrista attempted to make various drinks with milk. Each time "splash" milk on the countertop. Very messy. Why not just slow down babe and gently pour the milk from the jug and try not to spill a drop. I think her joy was coming from the spills. I didn't cry over the spilled milk each and every time. But the managers should. Btw the black coffee I had was so so not that fresh read more

For a place that touts its coffee roasting, I was expecting much more from their espresso.

I love this place. Great coffee and normally great service. Dropped in for coffee this past weekend and to pick up some coffee to brew at home. it was a few hours prior to closing and no one else in the shop. I asked if I could get some single serves coffee. No said the cherub female. I could order and pick up tomorrow. Thinking did I really want to drive back down to pick up a couple dozen single serves or plan B. I said that I'd pass and ordered two cups of coffee for me and my date. We got our coffee and went to the patio to drink our coffee. We noticed that no one came into the shop and the two employees appeared to be dusting the place and just standing around. My date mentioned that her coffee was warm... I took the lid off my coffee and she was amazed my coffee was hot. I asked her if she wanted me to get her some hot coffee. The male employee made fresh hot coffee for her and tapped on the door window when it was ready... still no other customers. We enjoyed our coffee and people watched. Still no additional customers. I was wondering if the business was so good they did not have to sell coffee. If I see the cherub female next time I will head on down the street and drink the other stores coffee. Obviously her definition of customer service is not the same as the owner's position. I was amused that in the hour and a half that we sat on the patio and no customers they did not have the time to fill and order for single serves. Shame on you Cherub (MW 2b) lady. read more

This probably ranks up there with the best coffee you can get in Long Beach. I think Neo Cafe's fancy coffee edges it out for best, but the location probably makes it more convenient for most people compared to Neo. I was pleasantly surprised I got out of there with a triple Americano + delicious oatmeal cookie for a little over 3 bucks. Not bad. Like other have said, it unfortunately closes at 9:00 PM, but on the bright side it opens at 6:00 AM. read more

Was really happy with the banana bread slice and cappuccino that I got here. I never expect much from random coffee shops and I hate Starbucks (totally a Blue Bottle snob). But this was way better than I could have ever hoped for in a random LA airport terminal. The coffee was nicely dark roasted. Bread was super moist and yummy too! read more

I went today for the second time and had the best mocha I've ever tasted and I've had my fair share. I like to support local neighborhood businesses and I will go back for sure. read more

Some people are easy to please this place is so lucky they are located in a sort of Bermuda Triangle where lemmings are plentiful. Enjoy it everyone, I couldn't. One of the areas greatest hoaxes this place. Service? I didn't see any. Quality of product. Average to slightly above supported by hype. Over roasted in most cases but I won't say anything about the Emporers clothes. read more

It's a tradition. But the coffee is uneven. Some days it is great, the best even... and some days it tastes burnt and not so good. I still go there because it's neighborhood and it's cool. I take my dog on their patio and hang for a while. It's all good. read more

I live a bit far away from Polly's Gourmet Coffee but I found myself in the area today and decided to try it for the first time. I got a La Minita Costa Rican coffee, described on their website as "a medium body coffee with smoky rich flavor containing hints of currants with a sweet finish." At only $2 for a 16 oz cup, this coffee was delicious for the price. The quality is definitely there. I haven't tried any of the other menu items but Polly's sells a huge variety of coffee beans. Nice service and a pleasant interior decor as well. There are also plenty of tables and seats outdoors and indoors. There was ample parking in the back, although the lot is not the biggest. Overall, I had a good experience and would come back if I was in the area. read more

This is for the Pollys in Long Beach Airport ... New Terminal looks great! But they should sue the engineer who designed the food court, no room for people and rolling bags to navigate :( and do something about Polly's Coffee! Polly's has been a 2nd St. fixture since the late 70's which is when I started buying their coffee. And I keep returning, even sending a pound every 3 months to a friend in Toronto, On. Canada. When we travel we take a pound of Polly's with us. To my mind, their best pastry is the cranberry walnut muffin. I've only found it's likes in Bisbee, AZ. The owner, Mike Sheldrake usually holds forth behind the counter or the back room. An ex-chemistry major, he's one smart and funny guy. Looking for the best coffee in SoCal? No view, but who cares? You're gonna close your eyes to savor this shops liquid gold. YUMM! read more

Okay, so I admit I haven't been in a long time, but I swear this place has all the coffees you want to grind at home--they really do! I remember the smell of the place really well---just scrumptious coffee permeating throughout. Only for the "serious" coffee afficionados! read more

I love Polly's coffee. I will always be grateful for it because about three years ago I bought this really awesome oversized purple mug that says, "Secretaries Run the World," for $5!! What a bargain. I went here last week and had a fantastic iced coffee and was more than relieved to find out they have free wi-fi, which I desperately needed. Everytime I've had coffee here it's been fantastic; I just wish they sold some of the dinner rolls that the Polly's restaurants make, then it'd be perfect. read more

I found this place on Yelp. I walked in this place on a Saturday after eating lunch close by and found two employees ready to order our drinks. I had a iced mocha. My girlfriend had a hot chocolate. Good local coffee. Opened back in 1972. It is definitely quiet here. Just a little warning...there is no public restroom here. read more
