Such a perfect, cozy coffee shop! I've heard from the locals that any Shelburne Falls cafe has the best coffee and I am here, as an outsider, to say I seem to agree. It's strong and hot and not bitter. I've only ever stopped in at very not busy times so there never seems to be a wait. I of course had to try some of the pastries, because my sweet tooth would not allow me to leave without a little something. I am charmed to the Nth degree. Their Buckland breakfast sandwich on a croissant is so nom -- it's essentially a sausage, egg, and cheese but -- or just wait, there is maple syrup drizzled inside like it happened accidentally as a kid when you overflowed your pancakes with syrup so it ran into your eggs and sausage - only here, it's just wrapped up for you ready to go in it's own singular perfection. Their Christmas Mocha is delicious -- other than the fancy bubbles on top I'm not sure I taste a real difference than a normal mocha but it's still perfectly balanced as a mocha! Shelburne's was recommended to me by a old friend who grew up in the area and just recently moved back -- and I am so grateful to have checked out this gem. Don't let the strip mall, big box neighborhood fool you! Worst customer service ever! Zero out of five stars. They have an awful online ordering system that doesn't work and a no phone orders on the weekends policy. I was very busy on my way to pick my mother up at the hospital and wanted to call in a cup of tea for her they would not let me do the call in order And told me I could only order online. After trying several times to order online I called and asked if there was anyway they could do a phone order due to my situation, and they replied no. When I drove by their store 15 minutes later there was almost no cars in the parking lot. Super bad customer service and unnecessary rules make this place not worth it. There are so many other good coffee places in the Amherst area, that actually care about their customers experience. It's too bad because this place used to be good but I guess they've gone corporate. read more

So happy I found this little coffee shop on my drive from my hotel to UMass so I could stop for some breakfast and caffeine. There are some really nice flavors of coffee and a great coffee bar for which includes all the milks to serve yourself. Oat, and almond are also available at the self serve station! The first day I can here I ordered a hazelnut iced coffee and added some oat milk to it. Super creamy and great flavor. I also got the East Hampton breakfast sandwich on a sun dried tomato bagel and that also hit the spot. It was made pretty quickly, it was nice and warm with melty cheese and was maybe a bit too greasy to eat in the car while driving, but I managed! I also came back here the next day and got the summer menu iced coconut chai latte. It was delicious! Great sandwiches, great drinks! One of the best places to grab a bite for breakfast (or lunch even) around here. I love it more than the traditional breakfast places here. There's a breakfast sandwich that has maple syrup, I forget the name, but it's the best sandwich there in my opinion. They have seasonal coffees and my favorite at this time is the sugar cookie latte. Yum! It's also a great place to do work. There's a bright side and there's a little dimmer side so there's an option for everyone. Since discovering this place a few months back, it has become the ONLY place I go for coffee and here is why: Firstly, their coffee selection is phenomenal. They always have flavors brewed into their coffee for an array of options that will suit anyone regardless of their "coffee-style." Whether you're a coffee-connoisseur, or you just like a sweet drink, there are basic hot coffee and iced coffee options for you. Secondly, their seasonal specialty drink selection is always original and well-crafted. Check out their instagram or a facebook for a list of their specialty lattes and cold brews for this season! If you're on the fence about trying one of these out- GO FOR IT. Thirdly, but importantly, their breakfast sandwiches and pastries are the best in the area. The sandwiches are a good size, very satisfying and TASTY. I recommend the East Longmeadow. Their pastries are superb!! You cannot go wrong with their mixed berry scone. My go-to place in Western Mass for a quick breakfast and caffeine run. One small black iced coffee and a Shelburne Falls on an everything bagel please - simple and delicious. When was a prosciutto, mozzarella and pesto combination ever a bad call? I've never ordered anything else but my friends have all enjoyed their other options, such as the Hadley. I wish they would go back to having a "wall menu". It was convenient and a nice touch to the atmosphere. Now you walk in and theres a line of people each looking at their individual menus - small change but big difference. Good thing I always know my order ahead of time. Their houseblend coffee has always done it for me but maybe i'll be a daredevil next time and try something new. On the plus side: very good coffee, pastries and breakfast sandwiches. But, there are some drawbacks. They seem to be often understaffed so it can take quite a while to get your sandwich or a coffee drink that they need to prepare. For regular coffee, they give you a paper cup and you fill it from an array of urns. Specialty coffee drinks (Americano, cappuccino, etc.) are also served in paper cups, which are often too hot to handle. They often don't ask whether your sandwich is to go, so even when you plan to eat there, it comes wrapped in foil, not on a plate. I really like to use china plates and cups when I am dining in. I work down the street so I've been passing this place every day for a while now. There's always a ton of cars and I don't like getting out of my car in the morning rush. I made the smart decision to go in the afternoon when it was nearly empty. Straightforward menu, bagels looked ehhh but I'm a bagel snob. I think $2.70 for a bagel and cream cheese is ridiculous but there's some who think otherwise. The coffee prices are beyond reasonable though. I got a large iced hazelnut for just $2.56! Across the street at DD it's definitely more like $3.25-50. My first sip I knew I'd made a smart choice. The hazelnut is very prevalent and I'm glad. It's not a wimpy coffee either thankfully. At this sweet, little local coffee shop, I have never been so proud to be a "regular"! My boyfriend and I make sure we save twenty minutes before our UMass classes to stop here: it's THAT good. Their coffee is my favorite in the area. They have a wide variety of flavors with strong, lovely aromas: my favorites are coconut cream, a medium roast called "first light", french vanilla and a holiday special called "Christmas morning". Their breakfast sandwiches are so delicious, served by friendly and energized staff: I recommend the Noho for vegetarians: with soy sausage, mozzarella, egg, tomato and onion & chive cream cheese. YUM. It's a great place for gifts, as well. Be sure to ask for a coffee card that gives you free coffee after ten drinks or so. You can keep it there, tacked up on the wall, so you never lose it. You can find a sweet seat in the sun, or in their back room, a zen-like "living room" with places for students to set up their laptops and study. While I was waiting they took care of the big order in front of me and the order after me. As for the coffee experience, I ordered a macchiato and got what was basically a latte with slightly less milk than a latte - a cortado, basically. I really didn't want a mostly milk drink, so I went up to reorder - a straight espresso. It was on the house, and I didn't even ask for that - pity it was burned and mostly bitterness, which may explain why they make macchiatos as cortados. I've had the drip coffee at other Shelburnes, and its pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. It's 2015 though and standards have raised. Starbucks just moved in across from you stealing your location exclusivity, and places like Tart and Rao's have a much better cup. Don't commit slow suicide by being merely better than Dunkin Donuts or The Donut Man! read more
