I always passed by this restaurant and assumed it was just another branch of the Hamtramck restaurant of the same name. One day I decided to go in and order and WOW! Although the menu items are very similar (if not the same), the food was a hella lot better! I'm not a fan of Gallaba but I can definitely say I am when it comes to this place! First the house salad looks like a 3 year old made it. Chopped iceberg lettuce fills the plate with a few tomatoes and cucumbers thrown on top. The dressing is some type of ginger dressing and was the best part or worse part depending on your taste. I suggest not ordering the house salad, go for the soup (lentil). The soup wasn't great, it was mediocre at best but way better than the house salad. We had the lamb fahsa, and it was amazing!! The bread costs extra by the way, (yes if you order hummus or anything else you have to buy the bread for $1 a piece) Now the bread tastes great but if you want to eat the fahsa with it you need 3-4 pieces so add that to the price. We also had the Haneth platter. It comes with an enormous portion of meat and rice, with very little else. The meats are very tender and tasty. But if you expect more than meat and rice you will be disappointed. I recommend getting the galaba, the meat was tender and the sauce tasty. The chicken haneth was also very good. The price is probably a little higher than most Dearborn spots and for no good reason. Service was so so. Our waitress was overwhelmed with several parties. Her descriptions of the food left us confused. The kids meals should be avoided. A 4 year old got nuggets and fries (I know it's ridiculous) and it was straight from the microwave. read more

There is no way to do as incredibly detailed a review as Daniel B, so I will default to my usual witty and to the point kind of review based on my own experience. Three words: get the bread! It is huge, chewy, homemade and thin. I grew up with a Lebanese-American grandfather and have never had Yemeni food before. It meets Lebanese on a few counts, such as hummus, shwarma, tabbouli and fattoush. But other dishes were unfamiliar and fun to try. All of the dishes on the menu reminded me of something their situ would make for a big holiday dinner. The chicken shwarma with rice platter was particularly good, the rice was colorful and buttery and the chicken pieces were moist and flavorful. The garlic sauce (toom) is spectacular. I would come here for just the bread and toom alone. It is the best toom I have ever had. Rich, whipped and smooth, without the garlicky hotness it can sometimes have. Nothing was too salty, a treat at middle eastern places. Salt is simply not needed as a flavor but sometimes you get a lot of it. Lookin' at you, Palm Palace. The tabbouli could use a few fistfuls more wheat bulgur, as I prefer it. But like all tabbouli, taking it home and letting it 'cook' in its juices and seasonings makes it far more chewy and edible the next day. The fattoush salad was one of the best I have had. The lettuce was cut into perfect sizes, the bread was nominal, not too much that by the end of the salad you have (bleah) soggy pieces. The sumac dressing was really good. I wished for more Lebanese style offerings but in their absence, I was able to try other things. Very clean place and friendly staff. read more

People recommended that I try Yemeni food at this place. When I came there were only two other tables with seated with couples. It was not busy in the least. I was seated by the hostess. The Lamb Haneeth is labelled as their most popular dish... and for very, very good reason. The outside is charred and caramelized perfectly, but the meat falls right off the bones. The meat melts into your mouth, and the taste is extremely fragrant instead of gamey, as badly cured lamb meat tends to be. The dish came alongside a side of rice and some stewed veggies. The portion sizes here are huge, so beware. My group also go the lamb maslough (not sure on the spelling) and zobian (again, not sure on the spelling), and both were good. The Maslough is a stewed lamb dish and the meat also falls off the bones. The Zobian is like the Yemeni version of biryani, and has more of a cinnamon/cardamom taste as compared to its Indian counterpart. The lamb shanks was ordered from the Mediterranean side of the menu, and in my personal opinion, when you come to Sheeba's, you should stick to the Authentic dishes side. You really cannot go wrong with anything on that side. The lamb shanks were good, but didn't have the melt in your mouth texture of the haneeth and less flavorful. It also came with a ton of rice. Ok, at this point, let's talk a bit more about the rice. It's fragrant because I think they put some sort of olive oil over it, and extremely colourful. ALSO - do not forget to order the hot tandoor bread. It's fresh out the oven and is on the same level as naan. In fact, I like it better, because sometimes naan is almost too buttery and you just want to taste the heartiness that is amazing bread. This tandoor bread does wonders when paired with the hummus and baba ganoush. The baba ganoush is very smoky and great. The hummus is also good. We also got the chicken haneeth, which again, although good, pales in comparison to the lamb haneeth. The fattoush salad was great, flavorful and fresh. But when you come to Sheeba's, you're here for the meat. So, prep yourself to be a savage carnivore here. read more

This restaurant was amazing. We came here for an early dinner on a Friday night, the restaurant was huge and was just starting to usher in the dinner crowd. We were quickly seated and greeted. Our waiter was so interactive while giving us space. Having experience in the service industry I really appreciated that. We ordered the authentic platter for two, with the haneeth, saltah and mandi rice. Salad and sauce came with the platter. To start off with, the ginger dressing on the salad is beyond delicious. So unique for a middle eastern restaurant but at the same time so complimenting of the other flavors. The meet on the haneeth was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Fall off the bone and so so sooo tender. The saltah which is a mixture of veggies that come in a boiling platter to the table was a perfect topper for the rice. I ate until I could barely breathe. The prices are so reasonable and the location is easy to find. There is ample parking in the back and the service was quick and inviting. Definitely will be back MANY times during these winter months. No place compares to the hot meals at Sheeba. read more

The food was truly authentic. I had a rice combination with chicken and lamb. The bread is made fresh there and was amazing. The entire dinner included appetizers, soup and Fetouch (salad). Everything was fresh and delicious. However, the lamb was perfectly moist...it came off the bone : ) The decor also made the restaurant feel ethnic. The service was great. We started with large order of hummus which came with freshly made bread. Delicious!! We also ordered the falafels. Those were flat instead of round. They were also good. I had the lamb hateen (sp). It came with rice and potatoes. The rice was amazingly seasoned. They provided a side of a salsa type topping which totally enhanced the rice. The lamb was done to perfection. We followed up dinner with a piece of their special dessert with a cup of tea. Don't skip the tea. Over all our experience was delightful. Tasty and authentic food. Locally recommend by my friend's Arabic colleague. Tandoori Fish is great, I usually ask for Sea bass but not Tilapia. Their Tandoori bread is freshly made too. Garlic sauce is unique than other middle-eastern restaurants. Always ask for garlic sauce, it goes well with any dishes(even bread!) Not a fan of sambusa here, it's too greasy. Should be drained longer after deep fried it. Besides, it taste super lamby. I don't eat lamb but I assumed that sambusa is made from beef, therefore I ordered it. I don't remember if later I asked the server that sambusa is made from lamb or beef. But if you are a person like me, someone who doesn't eat lamb, and afraid of certain beef dishes when it taste like lamb, maybe you would want to avoid the sambusa in the future. There's a lot of promising middle Eastern restaurants to check out in the Dearborn area, but I keep coming back here. I've even brought my co-workers and out of town visitors! The menu looks very extensive, with many sandwiches, platters, shish kabobs, etc. There are lunch specials as well. Your meal typically includes a soup or salad and you can't really go wrong. I've tried a couple lamb dishes and mooched off of my friends' kabob dishes. Service is very attentive, although they get very busy during lunch hour. It's not really a quick lunch kind of place, as the food takes a little time to come out. The restaurant is beautiful, and it looks like there is a small private room available for events. read more

My wife and I came to Dearborn for the history and got the food as a bonus. Last night we didn't know where to eat so I searched on Yelp. The high ratings and glowing reviews made us want to give it a try. We arrived before Sundown during Ramadan so the restaurant was fairly empty. Our server explained everything to us as we had never tried Yemeni food before. He promised us we would love it and we did. I had a special lamb and rice dish from Yemen that was delicious. We also had lamb soup and a salad, I devoured those as well. As we were finishing, the sun went down and bunches of hungry people arrived. It was fun to share their joy of good food. Came in tonight with my family from NJ and Chicago.. service was terrible. They burned the kids chicken nuggets so they had to make a new batch.. they also ran out of chicken.. so they gave us more lamb.. unfortunately we had a few people that don't eat lamb.. my nephew ordered a hummus and falafel sandwich.. it was the last thing to come out.. literally after everyone finished and we asked for it 3 times.. they have a call button.. but it didn't work when we pressed it. I have been to this restaurant a few times and it never disappoints!! The lamb haneeth is everything and I'm not even a huge lamb person! It is still sizzling when it comes to the table. Tonight we did the feast for 8 people.. everything was excellent.. the bread is so soft and delicious! The meat falls off the bone, so tender and cooked well. Lamb was crispy on the outside and succulent! The chicken for me was a little on the dry side and bland but a few others really liked it! The salad had a different kind of dressing on it and everyone either liked it or did not like it. The chutney that came on the side was good and fresh! The restaurant is quite large and has two different areas you can sit in.. the bathrooms are clean and are a one person stall. Note: there is no baby changing station! Decor is minimal but nice. I'm so glad that we have amazing Yemeni restaurants and that sheeba has 2 locations. I usually go to the west Dearborn location. It's huge so plenty of seating. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Food is top notch. The fahsah alone is worth going. But the lamb haneeth and bread is amazing. Even came for breakfast and it was delicious. The tea, adeni tea, and pomegranate juice are so good!! This is a wonderful restaurant and I go there all the time and highly recommend to everyone and anyone! read more

I grew up and lived in New York my whole life. So I've been to the famous and renowned Yemen Cafe in Brooklyn, many times. I was passing by Detroit and this was one stop I had to make, as a lover of Yemeni cuisine. The setting is really nice and fancy. A great family setting. The host was really friendly and welcoming. I came with a friend, so we ordered a plate for 2, which was more like a plate for at least 3 people as it was such a large portion. The dish we ordered was called the Sheeba for 2. It consisted of 1 and a half portion of lamb haneeth (slow roasted lamb), lamb ghallaba (minced lamb meat with grilled veggies), rice, potatoes and okra. The lamb haneeth was hands down the best I ever had in my life. As a New Yorker, I can confidently say that this haneeth is better than the one at Yemen Cafe (which is excellent by the way). It was so well seasoned and the meat was just so tender. It melted off the bone when eating it. The ghallaba was such a nice compliment to the haneeth. The meat was really juicy. I really enjoyed the potatoes and the rice. The rice had a really nice buttery taste. It was just amazing. It was so much food, but totally worth it. I was mind blown at how good this dish was. I went out with a large group of friends (14 people) to celebrate our dear friends birthday. They were very accommodating and allowed one of my friends to decorate the table and surrounding areas. We all shared a few huge platters that included roasted lamb, roasted chicken, and gallaya And everything was amazing! The lamb was falling off the bone and we learned from our server that the chefs uses a secret spice rub passed on from generations from the owners Yemeni family. We also had a the fahsa which was still boiling away in the clay pot when they put them in front of us. We liked the food so much that a few of us ordered to go orders to take home to our families. To be fair, the food definitely deserves five stars *****. Lamb haneeth is so delicious and tender. It's the service that I didn't like at this place. The food took at least 20 minutes to come out but this was not our only issue. After the long wait our order came out incomplete and I didn't get my main dish because the server somehow forgot about it. I didn't want to wait again for long time so I just canceled it. Then another mistake happened on the check and I was charged for a drink that I didn't get. These mistakes spoiled our weekend lunch. I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food and was really looking forward to this place with its Many great reviews and authentic food from Yemen. However Upon entering I immediately felt unwelcome and uncomfortable from the many awkward and confused stares. I sat down anyway and tried to make the best of it. I was given a menu but once I waited a while and saw someone come in after me served and given water I decided this wasn't the place for me and I wasn't welcomed. I am really glad I discovered this place. While others are gushing over other Arabic restaurants in the area that may be more well known, I am gushing over this place and their ability to cook some of the best lamb I've had at any Arabic restaurant. I understand this is a Yeman restaurant and I did notice some difference in the spices used, but nothing too different to turn me off. The lamb soup really knocked me off my socks. SO simple (was just broth) and so delicious. The lamb shank was amazing. Such tender lamb and full of flavor! I wouldn't say this place has exceptional atmosphere but the food is good enough to make up for it. Also, we had a party of 7 and one person who ordered a chicken dish waited 20 minutes more than everyone else before their food came out, so most of us were done eating by the time they received their meal which was disappointing. I ordered the seltah with egg and rice off the lunch menu, a small fatoosh and hummus. This place stinks of lamb, which isn't pleasant to me at all. I am hopeful there will be no bugs or hair in my food, based on some of the food pics from yelp for this place. The hummus is good, smooth, but a bit bland. Still not bad. The Seltah had very few veggies and doesn't look as appetizing with the egg mixed in it. My colleague took the other carrot from mine and I only had 2 pieces of carrot total. I thought the egg would be on top but I wanted it cooked completely so maybe that is why it was mixed in? The clay pot makes and keeps is piping hot. The Clay pot reminds me of the same pot used for Korean dol sot bibimbap. The seltah tasted fat too bland and boring, was not impressed by this dish at all. We asked for hot sauce and haven't gotten it yet. The waits staff is friendly and attentive, for the most part. My fatoosh didn't come before my meal. I had to ask for it again from the manager and our waitress came out with it within 5 mins. The manger or someone in slacks and a button up shirt took our order, may have been the manager, but our waitress took over. I think that is why the orders were a bit mixed up and I didn't get the salad or hot sauce in time. I tasted the seltah with chicken and the chef had added more flavor and spice to the chicken and not on the egg version without meat. The waitress said she would talk to the chef about adding more flavor and heat to mine, as I told her it was bland and I didn't like my dish at all. At least they were willing to make the dish taste better for me. The seltah was too hot to eat and I had to let it sit for about 5-10 mins, Even after it was brought out again with more flavor. The fatoosh salad is good, the darker the romaine the better for me. Dressing could use a bit more kick or maybe it needs a bit of lemon juice or more sumac to the salad. The seltah tasted better with the fresh jalapeño sauce, which I had to ask for yet again, but at least is helped the seltah go down faster. I don't know if I would order the seltah again. read more
