This review is long overdue! Shea is absolutely amazing at her trade, you can tell this is her art. From the very first time I had my hair styled and cut by Shea, she nailed my vision. On my last visit I went in not knowing exactly what I wanted (which is not like me) but I trusted she would know how to find the "feeling" I was looking for... and of course, I absolutely love it. Please go experience Shea!!! I recently got my hair cut and want to go get it cut again just because it was so fun!! I waited a few days to write this review because I wanted to make sure I was loving it as much as I expected. My expectations are exceeded. I've always wanted to just walk into a salon, have full trust in my stylist and say "make me pretty!" I explained how I lost my hair after giving birth. I explained how I wanted life to my hair, style while it grows out of the awkward stage, and something low maintenance because I am very busy with a toddler. Shea looked at me, knew exactly what my hair needed and finished with a lesson on how to style it and to "let my hair do the work". Y'all!! I am telling you I have NEVER experienced such a great haircut. Blowdrying my hair takes literally less than 15 minutes and I have fun doing it. It has never looked so full in my life. She somehow cut it so that it thins my face! Shea has a history of teaching in NYC, but some people just have that special touch and eye and know what to do. Shea is that person WITH a great background! She is literally my dream stylist. Enough about the haircut that I am obsessed with... we got to work in a private room, she has her sweet sweet dog and some bomb ass music! She is also basically a therapist as well haha. The experience all around is a 10/10. If you're debating where to go for a haircut, I hope this review has you sold. I get multiple compliments a day on my hair. Shea is the reason I have resurrected my Yelp account and installed the app on my phone. I've never been great at leaving reviews. But the world needs to know about Shea. I've been seeing her for about 5 years... I think. I've never hated my hair in the past 5 years, so the math adds up. I have annoying hair. Shea will say that everyone's hair has its own unique patterns. That sounds a lot nicer. My hair isn't straight, but it's not really wavy. It's fine, but has a bristly streak. It's thin-ish, but there's a lot of it in places. Like right over my ears. It drives me nuts. My hair is also extreeeeeemely important to me, and Shea gets that. She knows how to cut my problem spots so they play nicely with my more chill spots. She's like a chemist in a lab when she works. She knows the volatile vs nonvolatile compounds on everyone's head and ensures nothing explodes, unless it's your ego when you leave her studio looking fine AF. Because you will. I've taken the biggest hair risks of my life with Shea. Did I mention how important my hair is to me? Do the words "platinum pixie cut" sound bold and slightly terrifying to you? I went there with Shea. Some of the most dazzling style I've ever rocked. People are always asking me who does my hair, I tell them, and hope they call. I don't know if they do. So I'm leaving this here, hoping that you will read it and call too. At my first appointment, Shea told me that my hair is actually HER hair and I just get to wear it. So I can be a bit difficult as the first time I'm in your chair I don't talk. I just don't. I sit there and watch, mainly because I'm nervous what is going to happen to my head. You'd never know it but I'm actually shy. In my view Shea is an expert in her field. She knows hair....taught at Aveda for a long time and goes to events to stay on top of everything in the world of hair. I've been seeing Shea since oh, 1996 or so? A really long time. I've followed her wherever she had her chair. She's the only hairdresser who's ever really gotten me and my hair. Now we are at a point where I show up and she tells me what I want, and I know whatever she says is going to be great. She's intuitive, creative, smart, caring, and a freaking wizard genius with color. I have fine but curly hair and she always gives me the best cuts, no matter short or long or in between. (She's the go-to curly hair master). I've had every length and every shade of red and brunette and she always makes me look great. I got a pretty drastic hair cut the first time (about 6 inches off), and I have zero regrets. It lays nicely and is so much easier to style than I am used to. This lady knows her stuff about hair. She is an artist, not just a stylist. No wonder she books up pretty far in advance, in my experience it took 3-4 weeks to get in as a new client. She was super responsive via text leading up to my appointment. Over time I've learned to prebook my next appointment when I'm there, so I never have to worry about getting in. Shea is ahhhhmazing. First off, I googled "best salons in south austin," and salon sovay was one of the first to pop up. I checked out each stylists' bio, and Shea had a great story and years of experience, so I went with her. I was not disappointed. I got there and told her I had a vision for my hair, and pulled up about 20 pics of the hairstyle I wanted. She nodded and understood, then immediately said she wanted to look at each one with me to see what I liked and didn't like about them all. I mean, come on, that's what you want in a hair stylist!! I basically got the short Miley Cyrus haircut-an undercut all the way around my head with the pixie on top. She didn't use an electric razor to shave my head, instead she used scissors and a thinning or texturing razor, which I liked better than the electric. She was personable, didn't bs around, and truly excited about the hair style, and really seemed to love her work. She was super attentive to the way my hair grows, and the smallest details of the cut. She would often stop and check out the progress, asked if I liked it and so on. She truly customized the look I wanted to compliment my face and hair texture. I love her and have found my stylist for life! read more
