Unpriced items throughout the store. Had to flag down a few department managers to explain what the hell is going on. No signage, No pricing placards. Probably short staffed. Whenever I catch a regular item that I purchase on sale, that's the time to stock up. Depending on what item it is, the sale prices can be as much as half off the regular price....it could be bottled water, seltzer, pasta, frozen items, dairy, etc. If you don't get their weekly ad in the mail, just get online and search for their online page....you could be saving lots of money by doing that. read more

I frequently go to this Shaws, great amount of products, nice choice of international goods. My issue is with the lack of customer service, I am talking about the help desk. Literally the worst. Half hour in line with only two people ahead of me at the deli. One kid who was as slow as molasses and a woman 2 hours pre closing sweeping instead of waiting on the 5 customers in line. Terrible. read more

I haven't been in this Shaw's location for quite a while. The store has been remodeled since my last visit but the aisle are still very cramped, customers were literally crawling over each other in every section. I found a few good deals, but the produce was significantly overpriced compared to local competitors. The quality of the produce was ok but not Whole Foods prices worthy. They had 11 registers but only two open without baggers during weekends peak shopping hours. The store did invest in self checkout, but it looked like it was having technical issues during my visit as all the lights were blinking. The few staff I did encounter were pleasant and working under some stressful conditions. If you were going to shop here I would recommend going right when they open to avoid the large crowds. read more

Beware of Shaw's! I shopped there with 5 digital coupons. When I arrived at the cashier I typed in my phone number. My total seemed high so I asked the cashier if my digital coupons were included and he said yes. When I arrived home I saw that my digital coupons were not included. So much for honesty. Time has come to say goodbye to shaws in East Providence. Tired of constantly waiting for someone at the deli to wait on you. Again today at 7:57 am July 11. Not one customer at deli, just myself. 3 people behind counter and stood there 5 minutes. Not one of the three acknowledge your standing there. 2 were talking to each other and the other worker was walking back and forth behind counter. Why is customer service so bad at the deli? Well, I left and went to stop shop across the street. Just came out and the deli service here was very nice. I was greeted when I walked up to deli, and was asked shat i needed. So most of my review is based on the fact that the meat department is out of the advertised sale items about 70% of the time I go in. I often go after work, around 3:30, but I've run into the same issue at other times. I once went in three times for the same sale item and was told they were out. Out? It was a Monday. Isn't that when the biggest the deliveries come in? I was in there yesterday (granted it was St Patrick's Day), and two ladies were pouring through the corned beef display looking for the point cut that was on sale. Nope. Out. This almost NEVER happens when I go to Stop and Shop. Off the top of my head, I can only remember it happening once in the last few years. Last Christmas they didn't have any of the beef rib roasts on sale. They were on sale for a bit more across the street, but they had them, so I did my shopping there. Is it fair to judge a whole store on this? I think so. I've filled half a cart before with everything I need for a meal based on the sale item only go back to the meat department to find out they don't have it. Because of this, I now go right to the meat department before I shop. If they're out, I go across the street to Stop and Shop. read more

I highly recommend the Shaws drive up and go service. Order online or via the app - You can quickly get your groceries into your car and get on your way. All staff have been super friendly. The substitutions have been minimal. One was a bit much. My dogs freshpet for cat fresh pet. Um yeah, he loved it but the house wafted fishy doggy farts. Definitely will use service again. read more

horrible customer service. wanted to play the lottery. in a very crabby voice woman says I have no idea what you have to do. then filled the ticket out incorrectly. hands it back saying it's wrong. no help and just a plain bad attitude. if you have someone working at the customer service desk. first they should be knowledgeable about helping people with the services they offer and the person should have a nice personality. Good store but they have the worst seafood staff ever. In particular this one kid that clearly doesn't know fractions, how to cut fish, or anything really. Every time I shop I ask for 3/4 of ONE pound of Salmon. Without fail he either puts THREE pounds of salmon on the scale. When I say I just one 3/4 of just ONE pound, he says "I only have pound slices". Sometimes I would try to help him by saying "it doesn't matter if you don't get exactly to 0.75" and he still would be perplexed on how to cut a piece of fish. I would have to give him step by step instructions. Eventually I just gave up and started buying my fish over at Stop and Shop across the street. I've never seen anything like this and I've been to Shaw's through Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire. Working at the fish station requires people to (1) listen to the customers, (2) know fractions, (3) be willing to cut fish. This Shaw's hires people that do none of the above. read more

I was just at Shaws on Taunton Avenue is about $173 approximately after my discount I had stopped at the courtesy desk to get a roll of quarters. Your young lady said we can't give them away I said you're not I'm trading you $10 cash for the coins I think it is wrong to deny a customer coins that spends over $350 weekly who has been a loyal customer but I'll be looking into stop and shop across the street because of your policies read more

I enjoy this Shaws. It's modern looking, the produce is fresher than Stop & Shop across the street, and they have little cooking stations with food samples a lot of the time (at least on weekends). Prices are comparable to any of the chain markets in the area, so there's not much to argue about. Also, it's clean, which is always nice. read more

Not wanting to cross the picket line at stop & shop I went to Shaw's. This is a huge opportunity for Shaw's to win stop & shop's customers. You would think they would take advantage of that fact by trying to provide an excellent customer service experience for the stop & shop shoppers. But instead of putting on extra cashier's the lines were all extremely long. Plus, every time I shop in Shaw's, some of the food does not ring out at the sale price. You have to watch very carefully. Rebuilt and moved to the opposite end of the plaza that its original, dumpy counterpart was situated in, this is one of my favourite markets. Redesigned, modernized and completely restocked, the floor area is clean, the products well kept and customer service great. They carry everything from the typical Cheerios and Steak 'Ums to a fabulous organic, "Whole Foods-esque" section complete with munchies, ice cream and everything in between. Their produce section is a little limited but more importantly, is clean, fresh and organized. I haven't purchased a single wilting herb or head of lettuce since I started to shop here last summer. Generally the produce appears to last longer in my fridge than the comparable goods I grab at other markets which is always a plus when I'm pinching pennies. If anything, I just wish they had a larger area but overall the quality really makes up for the items they're lacking. Their deli and seafood counters are also well chilled and clean while the customer service are also an A+ with helpful, very friendly associates. It's nice to be treated to a smile sometimes, especially in this grey time of ruling, irritable frowns. Their meats are fresh and reasonable. No spoilage or green hot dogs to be found. Their prices may seem a little higher than the norm but they constantly have low-priced markdowns and frequent sales to make up for it. And if you still can't find the deal you're searching for, the location is prime with the new Stop and Shop up the street and a Price Right up 44. To make things even better, the old building the former Shaw's currently haunts is on its way into becoming an all purpose, organic supermarket. Score! With everything in one place, it's convenient and simplified for me to run my weekend errands saving both gas and time. Super secret shopping steal bonus: Do NOT just toss those coupons the machine prints at checkout. Mixed in the usual 50 cents off diapers & so forth, are extremely valuable discounts such as $10.00 off $75.00, $5.00 off $40.00. You'd be shocked at how many I find kickin around the self serve lanes from previous shoppers. read more

I go for the convenience and with the hope that one day, this store will surprise me. I rotate stores depending on sales but I do shop here almost weekly for odds and ends, even if it's for one or two items, for convenience so I see consistently their issues. You have to check EVERYTHING for expiration dates. I have bought things in the past I've had to return either because the date had already passed or it was close to and the food went bad before the date. This applies to both fresh and shelf items. It makes me wonder about their seafood since you have no idea how fresh it is. read more

Excellent selection, can't top the whole card and gift section - which makes it easy to get birthday cards or gift cards (there's also a mailbox right outside!) - there's also a nice area for the seasonal items. You no longer have to meander to the back of the store! It's right in the front! There's an entire section that has all the goodies for you vegan, non-gluten, super healthy folks! I peruse this section for healthy go-to snacks on the go. There's also plenty room to browse and shop - no longer fighting to get through the isle! The only issue I've had is that check-out seems to take a while. I'm not sure why (I've only been here quiet early in the morning) but it's kind and sweet ladies usually who help me out. This Shaw's has the worst deli. The word sloth comes to mind when we discuss the way they move and help their customers. The store also continues to freeze people out by running their A/C at a comfortable 40 degrees. Of all the grocery choices in and around Providence, this location of Shaw's is the best.I am typically a Whole Foods shopper but I am a girl who likes variety and Shaw's offers me that without the reduction in quality that I usually find at Stop and Shop. All the locations I have been to are always clean and only have fresh items out to sell to their customers. The staff is friendly and I like that Shaw's often has the same brand of organic items that I find at Whole Foods, and the prices are usually comparable if not a little less. read more

Shaw's has been my go to market since I can remember and I use to love it! Now I have decided after having numerous of bad experiences I will be taking my business to Stop & Shop and Whole Foods. The customer service at Shaw's sucks! A majority of the employees are so miserable and rude!!! This morning I went to get something from the deli and the man behind the counter just stood there and stared at me not even asking "may I help you" then him and another employee started bickering in front of customers about lord knows what! The customer service has just declined and it's sad! Oh another note...a few times I purchased items and they were expired or were expiring the next day! I was planning my 50th Birthday party and was looking for a place to get my cake. I was going to order from a bakery my family has used for years but because of the holidays they were closed until the week i needed the cake. I had a picture of what I wanted and knew the shaw's near my house had pretty cakes on display and the cupcakes were always really tasty. I went in and spoke to Pat who from the first time i knew i was in good hands!!! she came right around the counter and drew the shape on a napkin with frosting and said if that is what i am looking for she would be happy to decorate my 2 layer chocolate cake for me. when i went to pick it up yesterday she was so proud to show it to me as she should have been. It was perfect and exactly what i was looking for. she mentioned how she had tried a few times to get it perfect and she did. i had so many compliments on my cake last night and everyone was shocked to hear where i had bought it. the cake was delicious as well, people who don't even eat sweets were having 2-3 pieces. i will be definitely be going back there again for my cakes and sure several of my guest will be as well!
